NMR-based damage characterisation of backfill material in host rock under dynamic loading显示文摘It is not uncommon that backfill material used in underground mining being exposed to repetitive dynamic stresses induced by blasting operations or rockburst events. Understanding the strength and fracture evolution of backfilled stopes is critical to maintain the long-term stope stability and ensure safe mining activities. This paper aims to study the damage evolution of the backfill material and its host rock behaviour under three-dimensional(3D) dynamic loading. Using a true-triaxial testing machine, multiple samples of backfill material enclosed by country rock were fabricated and tested under various dynamic loadings with different true-triaxial confining stress conditions. In addition, the nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) measurement was conducted on the samples before and after exerting static and dynamic loading to obtain their porosity distribution changes. The experiment results suggested that with the increase of the dynamic loading, the porosity of the backfill sample goes through a two-stage process, which shows a slightly linear decrease and then followed by an exponential increase. The research findings can help understand the damage mechanism and fracture development of backfilled stopes and its host rock in deep underground mines, which are constantly subject to the combination of 3D static confining stress and dynamic loading.Binglei Li Jiquan Lan Guangyao Si Guopeng Lin Liuqing Hu 2020International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2020,30,3:16
Fault-Induced Coal Burst Mechanism under Mining-Induced Static and Dynamic Stresses显示文摘Fault is a common geological structure that has been revealed in the process of underground coal excavation and mining. The nature of its discontinuous structure controls the deformation, damage, and mechanics of the coal or rock mass. The interaction between this discontinuous structure and mining activities is a key factor that dominates fault reactivation and the coal burst it can induce. This paper first summarizes investigations into the relationships between coal mining layouts and fault occurrences, along with relevant conceptual models for fault reactivation.Subsequently,it proposes mechanisms of fault reactivation and its induced coal burst based on the superposition of static and dynamic stresses, which include two kinds of fault reactivations from:mining-induced quasi-static stress(FRMSS)-dominated and seismic-based dynamic stress(FRSDS)-dominated.These two kinds of fault reactivations are then validated by the results of experimental investigations, numerical modeling, and in situ microseismic monitoring. On this basis, monitoring methods and prevention strategies for fault-induced coal burst are discussed and recommended. The results show that fault-induced coal burst is triggered by the superposition of high static stress in the fault pillar and dynamic stress from fault reactivation.High static stress comes from the interaction of the fault and the roof structure, and dynamic stress can be ascribed to FRMSS and FRSDS.The results in this paper could be of great significance in guiding the monitoring and prevention of fault-induced coal bursts.Wu Cai Linming Dou Guangyao Si Yawei Hu 2021Engineering2021,7,5:8
Formation of Copolymer-Ag Nanoparticles Composite Micelles in Three-dimensional Co-flow Focusing Microfluidic Device显示文摘A novel method was presented to create composite micelles of amphiphilic copolymers and Ag nanoparticles(NPs) in a three-dimensional co-flow focusing microfluidic device(3D CFMD). Self-assembly of the copolymers was initiated by the fast mixing of water and a blend dispersion of hydrophobic Ag NPs and amphiphilic copolymers. At the same time, the hydrophobic Ag NPs enter the core of copolymer micelles, based on the hydrophobic interaction. The copolymer-Ag NPs composite micelles have a core-shell structure with copolymer shell and Ag NPs core. COMSOL Multiphysics is used to simulate the concentration distribution of copolymers and Ag NPs under different flow rates. Co-assembly microfluidic conditions are determined based on simulation results. Under suitable microfluidic conditions, both block copolymers and gradient copolymers can co-assemble with hydrophobic Ag NPs to form composite micelles, respectively. This microfluidic coassembly method will have a good prospect in the preparation of composite micelles of amphiphilic copolymers and metal nanoparticles.冯梦然 HE Guangyao YI Si SONG Weizheng 陈艳军 ZHANG Chaocan WANG Yifeng 2019Journal of Wuhan University of Technology(Materials Science)2019,34,6:1
Classification of clustered microseismic events in a coal mine using machine learning显示文摘Discrimination of seismicity distributed in different areas is essential for reliable seismic risk assessment in mines.Although machine learning has been widely applied in seismic data processing, feasibility and reliability of applying this technique to classify spatially clustered seismic events in underground mines are yet to be investigated. In this research, two groups of seismic events with a minimum local magnitude(ML) of-3 were observed in an underground coal mine. They were respectively located around a dyke and the longwall face.Additionally, two types of undesired signals were also recorded.Four machine learning methods,i.e.random forest(RF),support vector machine(SVM),deep convolutional neural network(DCNN),and residual neural network(ResNN),were used for classifying these signals. The results obtained based on a primary dataset showed that these seismic events could be classified with at least 91% accuracy. The DCNN using seismogram images as the inputs reached the best performance with more than 94% accuracy. As mining is a dynamic progress which could change the characteristics of seismic signals, the temporal variance in the prediction performance of DCNN was also investigated to assess the reliability of this classifier during mining.A cascaded workflow consisting of database update, model training, signal prediction, and results review was established.By progressively calibrating the DCNN model,it achieved up to 99% prediction accuracy. The results demonstrated that machine learning is a reliable tool for the automatic discrimination of spatially clustered seismicity in underground mining.Yi Duan Yiran Shen Ismet Canbulat Xun Luo Guangyao Si 2021Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,6:1
A novel elastoplastic model for Yunnan sandstone under poly-axial loading显示文摘The lack of understanding of plastic hardening(softening)laws, especially under anisotropic stress conditions, results in inappropriate geotechnical management. Most of the yielding envelopes do not consider the effect of intermediate principal stress and the influence of Lode's angle. In addition, the application of plastic flow rules regarding yielding surfaces compromises the softening of rock internal friction as well as the influence of Lode's angle on the plastic potential. Moreover, the ductility to brittleness transition in the intermediate principal stress direction still requires a theoretical foundation. In this study, based on poly-axial testing results of Yunnan sandstone,we adopted a failure criterion with the intermediate principal stress proposed by Menétrey and Willam. The proposed new failure envelope was applied to capture the plastic evolution of rock samples.A plastic hardening-softening model is constructed, based on the framework of the plastic theory. The softening envelope is modified to better present the stress drop and considers the deterioration of rock internal friction in the post-peak stage of poly-axial loading. The differential of plastic potential according to the principal stresses is also modified, considering the rotation of Lode's angle in the poly-axial loading tests. The model results were compared with laboratory testing results, which showed great consistency across 9 different loading tests(5 under triaxial stress and 4 under poly-axial stress with 22 stress-strain curves in total). The induced brittleness by the intermediate principal stress is also well captured by the proposed model.Xu Li Guangyao Si Joung Oh Ismet Canbulat Rui Kong Jian Zhang 2023International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2023,33,7:0
Quantitative assessment of the spatio-temporal correlations of seismic events induced by longwall coal mining显示文摘Rock failure process as a natural response to mining activities is associated with seismic events, which can pose a potential hazard to mine operators, equipment and infrastructures. Mining-induced seismicity has been found to be internally correlated in both time and space domains as a result of rock fracturing during progressive mining activities. Understanding the spatio-temporal(ST) correlation of mininginduced seismic events is an essential step to use seismic data for further analysis, such as rockburst prediction and caving assessment. However, there are no established methods to perform this critical task. Input parameters used for the prediction of seismic hazards, such as the time window of past data and effective prediction distance, are determined based on site-specific experience without statistical or physical reasons to support. Therefore, the accuracy of current seismic prediction methods is largely constrained, which can only be addressed by quantitively assessing the ST correlations of mininginduced seismicity. In this research, the ST correlation of seismic event energy collected from a study mine is quantitatively analysed using various statistical methods, including autocorrelation function(ACF), semivariogram and Moran’s I analysis. In addition, based on the integrated ST correlation assessment, seismic events are further classified into seven clusters, so as to assess the correlations within individual clusters. The correlation of seismic events is found to be quantitatively assessable, and their correlations may vary throughout the mineral extraction process.Shuyu Wang Guangyao Si Changbin Wang Wu Cai Binglei Li Joung Oh Ismet Canbulat 2022Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2022,14,5:0
