| 2 | Effect of exposure to ambient PM2.5 pollution on the risk of respiratory tract diseases: a meta-analysis of cohort studies显示文摘The International Agency for Research on Cancer and the World Health Organization have designated airborne particulates,including particulates of median aerodynamic diameter < 2.5um(PM_(2.5)),as Group 1 carcinogens.It has not been determined,however,whether exposure to ambient PM_(2.5) is associated with an increase in respiratory related diseases.This meta-analysis assessed the association between exposure to ambient fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5)) and the risk of respiratory tract diseases,using relevant articles extracted from PubMed,Web of Science,and Embase.In results,of the 1,126 articles originally identified,35(3.1%) were included in this meta-analysis.PM_(2.5)was found to be associated with respiratory tract diseases.After subdivision by age group,respiratory tract disease,and continent,PM_(2.5) was strongly associated with respiratory tract diseases in children,in persons with cough,lower respiratory illness,and wheezing,and in individuals from North America,Europe,and Asia.The risk of respiratory tract diseases was greater for exposure to traffic-related than non-traffic-related air pollution.In children,the pooled relative risk(RR) represented significant increases in wheezing(8.2%),cough(7.5%),and lower respiratory illness(15.3%).The pooled RRs in children were 1.091(95%CI:1.049,1.135) for exposure to<25 μg/m^3 PM_(2.5),and 1.126(95%CI:1.067,1.190) for exposure to > 25 μg/m^3 PM_(2.5).In conclusion,exposure to ambient PM_(2.5) was significantly associated with the development of respiratory tract diseases,especially in children exposed to high concentrations of PM_(2.5). | Qian Liu Cheng Xu Guixiang Ji Hui Liu Wentao Shao Chunlan Zhang Aihua Gu Peng Zhao | 2017 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2017,31,2: | 16 |

| 4 | Fluxes of methane,carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide in an alpine wetland and an alpine grassland of the Tianshan Mountains,China显示文摘Methane(CH4), carbon dioxide(CO2) and nitrous oxide(N2O) are known to be major greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. To identify the flux dynamics of these greenhouse gases is, therefore, of great significance. In this paper, we conducted a comparative study on an alpine grassland and alpine wetland at the Bayinbuluk Grassland Eco-system Research Station, Chinese Academy of Sciences. By using opaque, static, manual stainless steel chambers and gas chromatography, we measured the fluxes of CH4, N2O and CO2 from the grassland and wetland through an in situ monitoring study from May 2010 to October 2012. The mean flux rates of CH4, N2O and CO2 for the experimental alpine wetland in the growing season(from May to October) were estimated at 322.4 μg/(m2?h), 16.7 μg/(m2?h) and 76.7 mg/(m2?h), respectively; and the values for the alpine grassland were –88.2 μg/(m2?h), 12.7 μg/(m2?h), 57.3 mg/(m2?h), respectively. The gas fluxes showed large seasonal and annual variations, suggesting weak fluxes in the non-growing season. The relationships between these gas fluxes and environmental factors were analyzed for the two alpine ecosystems. | 6 | Emodin attenuates severe acute pancreatitis-associated acute lung injury by suppressing pancreatic exosome-mediated alveolar macrophage activation显示文摘Severe acute pancreatitis-associated acute lung injury(SAP-ALI) is a serious disease associated with high mortality. Emodin has been applied to alleviate SAP-ALI;however, the mechanism remains unclear. We report that the therapeutic role of emodin in attenuating SAP-ALI is partly dependent on an exosomal mechanism. SAP rats had increased levels of plasma exosomes with altered protein contents compared to the sham rats. These infused plasma exosomes tended to accumulate in the lungs and promoted the hyper-activation of alveolar macrophages and inflammatory damage. Conversely,emodin treatment decreased the plasma/pancreatic exosome levels in the SAP rats. Emodin-primed exosomes showed less pro-inflammatory effects in alveolar macrophages and lung tissues than SAP exosomes. In detail, emodin-primed exosomes suppressed the NF-κB pathway to reduce the activation of alveolar macrophage and ameliorate lung inflammation by regulating PPARγ pathway, while these effects were amplified/abolished by PPARγ agonist/antagonist. Blockage of pancreatic acinar cell exosome biogenesis also exhibited suppression of alveolar macrophage activation and reduction of lung inflammation. | 7 | Sorption of tetracycline to sediments and soils:assessing the roles of pH,the presence of cadmium and properties of sediments and soils显示文摘Batch sorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the sorption behavior of tetracycline(TC,H_(3)L)on sediments and soils in the presence and absence of cadmium(Cd),as affected by pH and properties of sediments and soils.The results indicated stronger nonlinearity and higher capacity of TC sorption on sediments than on soils.Sorption of TC also strongly depended on environmental factors and sediment/soil properties.Lower pH facilitated TC sorption through a cation exchange mechanism,which also took place at pH values above 5.5,where TC existed as a zwitterion(H_(2)L^(0))or anions(HL^(-)and L^(2-)).When pH was above 7,however,ligand-promoted dissolution of TC might occur due to TC weakening the Al-O bond of aluminum oxide and the Fe-O bond of iron oxide.Natural organic matter(NOM)plays a more important role in TC sorption than cation exchange capacity(CEC)and clay contents.The presence of Cd(II)increased TC sorption on both sediments and soils,which resulted from the decrease of equilibrium solution pH caused by Cd^(2+)exchange with H^(+)ions of sediment/soil surfaces.The increase of TC sorption was also related to the formation of TC-Cd complexes,where Cd^(2+)acted as a bridge between the sediment/soil and TC. | Guixiang ZHANG Xitao LIU Ke SUN Ye ZHAO Chunye LIN | 2010 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2010,4,4: | 5 |

| 9 | Direct Effects of Activin A on the Activation of Mouse Macrophage RAW264.7 Cells显示文摘Macrophages play critical roles in innate immune and acquired immune via secreting pro-inflammatory mediators, phagocytosing microorganisms and presenting antigens. Activin A, a member of transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) superfamily, is produced by macrophages and microglia cells. In this study, we reported a direct effect of activin A as a pro-inflammatory factor on mouse macrophage cell line RAW264.7 cells. Our data revealed that activin A could not only increase IL-1β and IL-6 production from RAW264.7 cells, but also promote pinocytic and phagocytic activities of RAW264.7 cells. In addition, activin A obviously up-regulated MHC II expression on the surface of RAW264.7 cells, whereas did not influence MHC I expression. Activin A also enhanced CD80 expression, which is a marker of activated macrophages, but did not influence RAW264.7 cell proliferation. | 11 | Study on cellular internalization of poly(vinyldiaminotriazine)-based hydrogen bonding type non-viral transgene vector显示文摘Previously we successfully prepared poly(vinyldiaminotriazine)(PVDT)-based non-viral vectors which complexed plasmid DNA via hydrogen bonding with adenine-thymine base pairs. In this report, surface charges and complex sizes of this system were further examined. The results showed that PVDT-based polymer could cover surface charges of DNA resulting in slightly negative or neutral complexes. It was also found that the complex sizes were governed by two events: the aggregation induced by the insta-bility of neutral particles, and more compact complexes produced by PVDT-based polymers. In the study of cellular uptake, chlorpromazine and filipin Ⅲ were used to inhibit clathrin- and caveolae-me- diated endocytosis, respectively. We found that PVDT-based systems were transported into cells via a non-clathrin, non-caveolae mediated endocytosis. This special process was studied by temperature inhibition and kinetics assays. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate on astrocytes in an interleukin-6(IL-6) overexpressing mice following local cerebral ischemia. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:Randomized,cytological,controlled,animal study was performed in the Department of Physiology and Neuroscience,Neurology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology,Medical University of South Carolina from January 2005 to March 2005. MATERIALS:Nine IL-6 transgenic mice,irrespective of gender,were randomly divided into three groups:sham-operated,model,and treatment,with three mice in each group.With exception of the sham-operated group,right middle cerebral artery occlusion was induced in the mice. Expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein,an astrocyte marker,was determined by immunohistochemistry.Low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate was purchased from Biochemistry and Biotechnique Institute,Shandong University. METHODS:Two minutes prior to ischemia induction,0.5 mL/kg saline or 20 000 U/kg low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate were administrated via the femoral artery in the model group and treatment group,respectively.The sham-operated group underwent the same protocols,with the exception of occlusion and treatment. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The number of glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive cells was quantified under light microscopy(x200). RESULTS:In the sham-operated group,there were a large number of astrocytes in the IL-6 transgenic mice.However,the cell bodies were small,and the branches were few and thin.The number of astrocytes in the model group was remarkably less than the sham-operated group. Compared to the model and sham-operated groups,the number of astrocytes significantly increased,and the cell body became larger,following treatment with low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate.Astrocytes exhibited hypertrophy and hyperplasia,and the processes became longer and thicker.
