Bph30confers resistance to brown planthopperby fortifying sclerenchyma in rice leaf sheaths显示文摘Phloem-feeding insects cause massive losses in agriculture and horticulture.Host plant resistance to phloem-feeding insects is often mediated by changes in phloem composition, which deter insect settling and feeding and decrease viability. Here,we report that rice plant resistance to the phloem-feeding brown planthopper(BPH)is associated with fortification of the sclerenchyma tissue, which is located just beneath the epidermis and a cell layer or two away from the vascular bundle in the rice leaf sheath. We found that BPHs prefer to feed on the smooth and soft region on the surface of rice leaf sheaths called the long-cell block. We identified Bph30 as a rice BPH resistance gene that prevents BPH stylets from reaching the phloem due to the fortified sclerenchyma.Bph30 is strongly expressed in sclerenchyma cells and enhances cellulose and hemicellulose synthesis, making the cell walls stiffer and sclerenchyma thicker. The structurally fortified sclerenchyma is a formidable barrier preventing BPH stylets from penetrating the leaf sheath tissues and arriving at the phloem to feed.Bph30 belongs to a novel gene family, encoding a protein with two leucine-rich domains.Another member of the family,Bph40,also conferred resistance to BPH.Collectively, the fortified sclerenchyma-mediated resistance mechanism revealed in this study expands our understanding of plant-insect interactions and opens a new path for controlling planthoppers in rice. | Shaojie Shi Huiying Wang Lingyun Nie Di Tan Cong Zhou Qian Zhang YiLi Bo Du Jianping Guo Jin Huang DiWu Xiaohong Zheng Wei Guan Junhan Shan Lili Zhu Rongzhi Chen Longjian Xue Linda L.Walling Guangcun He | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,10: | 7
Carboniferous Arc Setting in Central Hainan: Geochronological and Geochemical Evidences on the Andesitic and Dacitic Rocks显示文摘Volcanic rocks in the Bangxi-Chenxing tectonic zone provide important carries for better understanding the Late Paleozoic tectonic evolution in Hainan and its temporal-spatial pattern of the eastern Paleotethyan evolution. This paper presents a set of new geochronological and geochemical data on the andesitic and dacitic rocks along the Bangxi-Chenxing tectonic zone in central Hainan. The representative andesitic and dacitic samples yield similar zircon U-Pb ages of 353±3 and 351±7 Ma, respectively, being of Early Carboniferous origin. These volcanic rocks are characterized by low TiO_2 and high Al_2O_3 contents and are enriched in LILEs and LREEs but depletion in HFSEs, along with negative ε_(Nd)(t) values of-1.4–-4.7 and high ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr(i) ratios of 0.707 2–0.710 1. Geochemical signatures suggest that the andesitic and dacitic samples might originate from a metasomatized wedge modified by the slab-derived component in a continental arc setting. In combination with the available data, it is proposed for the development of a Carboniferous continental arc in response to the eastern Paleotethyan evolution. The Bangxi-Chenxing tectonic zone might westerly link with the Jinshajiang-Ailaoshan-Song Ma suture zone, constituting an assemblage boundary between the South China and Indochina blocks. | Shubo Li Huiying He Xin Qian Yuejun Wang Aimei Zhang | 2018 | Journal of Earth Science2018,29,2: | 6

Development of an on-line measurement system for water-soluble organic matter in PM_(2.5) and its application in China显示文摘Water-soluble organic matter(WSOM) represents a critical fraction of fine particles(PM_(2.5))in the air, but its changing behaviors and formation mechanisms are not well understood yet, partly due to the lack of fast techniques for the ambient measurements. In this study,a novel system for the on-line measurement of water-soluble components in PM_(2.5), the particle-into-liquid sampler(PILS)–Nebulizer–aerosol chemical speciation monitor(ACSM), was developed by combining a PILS, a nebulizer, and an ACSM. High time resolution concentrations of WSOM, sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, and chloride, as well as mass spectra, can be obtained with satisfied quality control results. The system was firstly applied in China for field measurement of WSOM. The mass spectrum of WSOM was found to resemble that of oxygenated organic aerosol, and WSOM agreed well with secondary inorganic ions. All evidence collected in the field campaign demonstrated that WSOM could be a good surrogate of secondary organic aerosol(SOA). The PILS–Nebulizer–ACSM system can thus be a useful tool for intensive study of WSOM and SOA in PM_(2.5). | Huiying Li Xiaofeng Huang Liming Cao Yuhong Zhai Liwu Zeng Lingyan He | 2018 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,7: | 5
Development of an antimicrobial peptide-loaded mineralized collagen bone scaffold for infective bone defect repair显示文摘The repair of infective bone defects is a great challenge in clinical work.It is of vital importance to develop a kind of bone scaffold with good osteogenic properties and long-term antibacterial activity for local anti-infection and bone regeneration.A porous mineralized collagen(MC)scaffold containing poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)microspheres loaded with two antibacterial synthetic peptides,Pac-525 or KSL-W was developed and characterized via scanning electron microscopy(SEM),porosity measurement, swelling and mechanical tests. The results showed that the MC scaffold embedded with smooth and compact PLGA microspheres had a positive effect on cell growth and also had antibacterial properties.Through toxicity analysis, cell morphology and proliferation analysis and alkaline phosphatase evaluation, the antibacterial scaffolds showed excellent biocompatibility and osteogenic activity. The antibacterial property evaluated with Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli suggested that the sustained release of Pac-525 or KSL-W from the scaffolds could inhibit the bacterial growth aforementioned in the long term. Our results suggest that the antimicrobial peptides-loaded MC bone scaffold has good antibacterial and osteogenic activities, thus providing a great promise for the treatment of infective bone defects. | Yuzhu He Yahui Jin Xiaoxia Ying Qiong Wu Shenglian Yao Yuanyuan Li Huiying Liu Guowu Ma Xiumei Wang | 2020 | Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,5: | 3
A super pan-genomic landscape of rice显示文摘Pan-genomes from large natural populations can capture genetic diversity and reveal genomic complexity.Using de novo longread assembly,we generated a graph-based super pan-genome of rice consisting of a 251-accession panel comprising both cultivated and wild species of Asian and African rice. Our pan-genome reveals extensive structural variations(SVs)and gene presence/absence variations.Additionally, our pan-genome enables the accurate identification of nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat genes and characterization of their inter-and intraspecific diversity. Moreover,we uncovered grain weight-associated SVs which specify traits by affecting the expression of their nearby genes. We characterized genetic variants associated with submergence tolerance, seed shattering and plant architecture and found independent selection for a common set of genes that drove adaptation and domestication in Asian and African rice. This super pan-genome facilitates pinpointing of lineage-specific haplotypes for trait-associated genes and provides insights into the evolutionary events that have shaped the genomic architecture of various rice species. | Lianguang Shang Xiaoxia Li Huiying He Qiaoling Yuan Yanni Song Zhaoran Wei Hai Lin Min Hu Fengli Zhao Chao Zhang Yuhua Li Hongsheng Gao Tianyi Wang Xiangpei Liu Hong Zhang Ya Zhang Shuaimin Cao Xiaoman Yu Bintao Zhang Yong Zhang Yiqing Tan Mao Qin Cheng Ai Yingxue Yang Bin Zhang Zhiqiang Hu Hongru Wang Yang Lv Yuexing Wang Jie Ma Quan Wang Hongwei Lu Zhe Wu Shanlin Liu Zongyi Sun Hongliang Zhang Longbiao Guo Zichao Li Yongfeng Zhou Jiayang Li Zuofeng Zhu Guosheng Xiong Jue Ruan Qian Qian | 2022 | Cell Research2022,32,10: | 3
Photocatalytic activity of TiO2 containing anatase nanoparticles and rutile nanoflower structure consisting of nanorods显示文摘A series of TiO2 with diferent crystal phases and morphologies was synthesized via a facile hydrothermal process using titanium n- butoxide and concentrated hydrochloric acid as raw materials. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated by degradation of Methyl Orange in aqueous solution under UV-Visible light irradiation. On the basis of detailed analysis of the characterizing results of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray powder difraction measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurement, it was concluded that the photo-activity of the catalyst is related directly to the 3D morphology and the crystal phase composition. An excellent catalyst should have both a rutile 3D flower-like structure and anatase granulous particles. The 3D flower-like structure could enhance light harvesting, as well as the transfer of reactant molecules from bulk solution to the reactive sites on TiO2. In addition, the optimum anatase/rutile phase ratio was found to be 80:20, which is beneficial to the efective separation of the photogenerated electron–hole pairs. | Zhiqiao He Qiaolan Cai Huiying Fang Gaohua Situ Jianping Qiu Shuang Song Jianmeng Chen | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,12: | 3
Expression status of GATA3 and mismatch repair proteins in upper tract urothelial carcinoma显示文摘GATA binding protein 3 (GATA3) and mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency contribute to the development of urothelial carcinoma. However, the combined expression of GATA3 and microsatellite instability (MSI) in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and its prognostic value have not been investigated. Here, we immunohistochemically stained GATA3 and MMR proteins in 108 UTUC samples. GATA3 was positive in 74 cases, and its expression was significantly lower than in adjacent benign urothelium (P<0.001). Loss of GATA3 expression was statistically associated with adverse clinicopathologic parameters, such as advanced stage, lymphovascular invasion, neural invasion, lymph node metastasis, and extensive necrosis. Cancer-specific survival (CSS, P=0.028) and disease-free survival (DFS, P=0.024) were significantly shorter in patients with GATA3 negative tumors than in patients with GATA3 positive tumors. The absence of MMR proteins was observed in 8.3% of the cases, and focal staining was identified in 13.0%. When using “lax criteria” which resulted in counting cases as negative where MMR staining was in fact focally positive (<5%), we found that GATA3 was inversely associated with MSI (P=0.005). Moreover, GATA3−/microsatellite stability (MS) tumors were correlated with advanced pT stage (P<0.001) and poor outcome (P=0.019 for CSS, P=0.016 for DFS) compared with GATA3+/MSI ones. The GATA3−/MSI cases had unfavorable clinical outcomes compared with GATA3+/MSI cases (P=0.008 for CSS, P=0.023 for DFS). This finding raises a question as to whether GATA3 interacts with MSI through the TGF-β signaling pathway and regulates UTUC progression. | Yue Wang Jinxia Zhang Yunfan Wang Shufang Wang Yu Zhang Qi Miao Fei Gao Huiying He | 2019 | Frontiers of Medicine2019,13,6: | 1
Identifying candidate genes and patterns of heat-stress response in rice using a genome-wide association study and transcriptome analyses显示文摘Because high temperatures impair rice production,it is desirable to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms involved in rice response to heat stress. The objectives of this study were to identify candidate genes and characterize their response patterns during rice adaptation to high temperatures at the seedling stage.Ten heat-associated quantitative-trait loci were identified in a genome-wide association study.Comparison of transcript abundances in heat-sensitive and heat-tolerant rice pools under heat stress revealed approximately 400 differentially expressed genes. The expression of genes from heatsensitive accessions changed more than those from heat-tolerant accessions under heat stress.Alternative splicing(AS)events responded to heat stress in rice. The types of AS variants significant different between the heat-sensitive and heat-tolerant accessions.Expression patterns differing between the heat-sensitive and heat-tolerant accessions were identified for genes known to be involved in heat stress. We identified eleven genes associated with rice heat stress response. These genes could be pyramided to breed heat-tolerant rice accessions. | Yingxue Yang Chao Zhang De Zhu Huiying He Zhaoran Wei Qiaoling Yuan Xiaoxia Li Xu Gao Bin Zhang Hongsheng Gao Bo Wang Shuaimin Cao Tianyi Wang Yuhua Li Xiaoman Yu Longbiao Guo Guanjing Hu Qian Qian Lianguang Shang | 2022 | The Crop Journal2022,10,6: | 1
A complete assembly of the rice Nipponbare reference genome显示文摘Dear Editor,In 2005,the current commonly used rice reference genome(Oryza sativa ssp.japonica cv.Nipponbare)was initially released by the International Rice Genome Sequencing Project(International Rice Genome Sequencing Project,2005).Thereafter,the reference genome was further updated in 2013 with improved genome assembly(IRGSP-1.0)and gene annotations(MSU7,RAP-DB)(Kawahara et al.,2013;Sakai et al.,2013).In the past 10 years, this reference has been serving as one of the most important genetic resources for subsequent rice functional genomics efforts. As several rice genomes had been assembled into gapless chromosomes with only 2–5 telomeres absent(Li et al.,2021;Song et al.,2021;Zhang et al.,2022),the IRGSP1.0 and its annotations still performed as the most widely used reference. However, limitations of sequencing technology and intricate genomic organization led to an under-representation of complex regions in this reference, leaving a total of 72 major gaps(including 19 telomeres),167 minor gaps, and 779 unknown bases(Kawahara et al.,2013),with an estimated length of3%of the genome unsolved. | Lianguang Shang Wenchuang He Tianyi Wang Yingxue Yang Qiang Xu Xianjia Zhao Longbo Yang Hong Zhang Xiaoxia Li Yang Lv Wu Chen Shuo Cao Xianmeng Wang Bin Zhang Xiangpei Liu Xiaoman Yu Huiying He Hua Wei Yue Leng Chuanlin Shi Mingliang Guo Zhipeng Zhang Bintao Zhang Qiaoling Yuan Hongge Qian Xinglan Cao Yan Cui Qianqian Zhang Xiaofan Dai Congcong Liu Longbiao Guo Yongfeng Zhou Xiaoming Zheng Jue Ruan Zhukuan Cheng Weihua Pan Qian Qian | 2023 | Molecular Plant2023,16,8: | 1
LncRNA DACH1 protects against pulmonary fibrosis by binding to SRSF1 to suppress CTNNB1 accumulation显示文摘Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)is a progressive disease with unknown etiology and limited therapeutic options.Activation of fibroblasts is a prominent feature of pulmonary fibrosis. Here we report that lncRNA DACH1(dachshund homolog 1)is downregulated in the lungs of IPF patients and in an experimental mouse model of lung fibrosis.LncDACH1 knockout mice develop spontaneous pulmonary fibrosis, whereas overexpression of LncDACH1 attenuated TGF-β1-induced aberrant activation, collagen deposition and differentiation of mouse lung fibroblasts.Similarly, forced expression of LncDACH1 not only prevented bleomycin(BLM)-induced lung fibrosis, but also reversed established lung fibrosis in a BLM model.Mechanistically,LncDACH1 binding to the serine/arginine-rich splicing factor 1(SRSF1)protein decreases its activity and inhibits the accumulation of Ctnnb1.Enhanced expression of SRSF1 blocked the anti-fibrotic effect of LncDACH1 in lung fibroblasts.Furthermore, loss of LncDACH1 promoted proliferation, differentiation, and extracellular matrix(ECM)deposition in mouse lung fibroblasts, whereas such effects were abolished by silencing of Ctnnb1.In addition,a conserved fragment of LncDACH1 alleviated hyperproliferation,ECM deposition and differentiation of MRC-5 cells driven by TGF-β1.Collectively,LncDACH1 inhibits lung fibrosis by interacting with SRSF1 to suppress CTNNB1 accumulation, suggesting that LncDACH1 might be a potential therapeutic target for pulmonary fibrosis. | Jian Sun Tongzhu Jin Zhihui Niu Jiayu Guo Yingying Guo Ruoxuan Yang Qianqian Wang Huiying Gao Yuhan Zhang Tianyu Li Wenxin He Zhixin Li Wenchao Ma Wei Su Liangliang Li Xingxing Fan Hongli Shan Haihai Liang | 2022 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,9: | 1

Self-Floating Efficient Solar Steam Generators Constructed Using Super-Hydrophilic N,O Dual-Doped Carbon Foams from Waste Polyester显示文摘Solar evaporation is recognized as a prospective technique to produce freshwater from non-drinkable water using inexhaustible solar energy. However,it remains a challenge to fabricate low-cost solar evaporators with obviously reduced water evaporation enthalpy to achieve high evaporation rates.Herein,N,O dual-doped carbon foam(NCF)is fabricated from the lowtemperature carbonization of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET)waste by melamine/molten salts at 340℃.During carbonization, melamine reacts with carboxylic acids of PET degradation products to yield a crosslinking network, and then molten salts catalyze the decarboxylation and dehydration to construct a stable framework.Owing to rich N,O-containing groups,3D interconnected pores,super-hydrophilicity,and ultra-low thermal conductivity(0.0599 W m^(−1) K^(−1)),NCF not only achieves high light absorbance(ca.99%)and solar-to-thermal conversion, but also promotes the formation of water cluster to reduce water evaporation enthalpy by ca.37%.Consequently,NCF exhibits a high evaporation rate(2.4 kg m^(−2) h^(−1)),surpassing the-state-of-the-art solar evaporators, and presents good antiacid/basic abilities,long-term salt-resistance,and self-cleaning ability.Importantly,a large-scale NCF-based outdoor solar desalination device is developed to produce freshwater. The daily freshwater production amount per unit area(6.3 kg)meets the two adults’daily water consumption. The trash-to-treasure strategy will give impetus to the development of low-cost,advanced solar evaporators from waste plastics for addressing the global freshwater shortage. | Huiying Bai Ning Liu Liang Hao Panpan He Changde Ma Ran Niu Jiang Gong Tao Tang | 2022 | Energy & Environmental Materials2022,5,4: | 1

Identification of natural allelic variation in TTL1 controlling thermotolerance and grain size by a rice super pan-genome∞显示文摘Continuously increasing global temperatures present great challenges to food security.Grain size, one of the critical components determining grain yield in rice(Oryza sativa L.),is a prime target for genetic breeding. Thus, there is an immediate need for genetic improvement in rice to maintain grain yield under heat stress. However, quantitative trait loci(QTLs)endowing heat stress tolerance and grain size in rice are extremely rare. Here,we identified a novel negative regulator with pleiotropic effects,Thermo‐Tolerance and grain Length 1(TTL1),from the super pan‐genomic and transcriptomic data.Loss‐of‐function mutations in TTL1 enhanced heat tolerance, and caused an increase in grain size by coordinating cell expansion and proliferation.TTL1 was shown to function as a transcriptional regulator and localized to the nucleus and cell membrane.Furthermore, haplotype analysis showed that hapL and hapS of TTL1 were obviously correlated with variations of thermotolerance and grain size in a core collection of cultivars.Genome evolution analysis of available rice germplasms suggested that TTL1 was selected during domestication of the indica and japonica rice subspecies, but still had much breeding potential for increasing grain length and thermotolerance. These findings provide insights into TTL1 as a novel potential target for the development of high‐yield and thermotolerant rice varieties. | Yarong Lin Yiwang Zhu Yuchao Cui Hongge Qian Qiaoling Yuan Rui Chen Yan Lin Jianmin Chen Xishi Zhou Chuanlin Shi Huiying He Taijiao Hu Chenbo Gu Xiaoman Yu Xiying Zhu Yuexing Wang Qian Qian Cuijun Zhang Feng Wang Lianguang Shang | 2023 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2023,65,12: | 0

A centromere map based on super pan-genome highlights the structure and function of rice centromeres显示文摘Rice(Oryza sativa)is a significant crop worldwide with a genome shaped by various evolutionary factors.Rice centromeres are crucial for chromosome segregation, and contain some unreported genes.Due to the diverse and complex centromere region,a comprehensive understanding of rice centromere structure and function at the population level is needed. We constructed a high-quality centromere map based on the rice super pangenome consisting of a 251-accession panel comprising both cultivated and wild species of Asian and African rice.We showed that rice centromeres have diverse satellite repeat CentO,which vary across chromosomes and subpopulations, reflecting their distinct evolutionary patterns. We also revealed that long terminal repeats(LTRs),especially young Gypsy-type LTRs,are abundant in the peripheral CentO-enriched regions and drive rice centromere expansion and evolution.Furthermore,high-quality genome assembly and complete telomere-to-telomere(T2T)reference genome enable us to obtain more centromeric genome information despite mapping and cloning of centromere genes being challenging. We investigated the association between structural variations and gene expression in the rice centromere.A centromere gene,OsMAB,which positively regulates rice tiller number, was further confirmed by expression quantitative trait loci, haplotype analysis and clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein9 methods.By revealing the new insights into the evolutionary patterns and biological roles of rice centromeres, our finding will facilitate future research on centromere biology and crop improvement. | Yang Lv Congcong Liu Xiaoxia Li Yueying Wang Huiying He Wenchuang He Wu Chen Longbo Yang Xiaofan Dai Xinglan Cao Xiaoman Yu Jiajia Liu Bin Zhang Hua Wei Hong Zhang Hongge Qian Chuanlin Shi Yue Leng Xiangpei Liu Mingliang Guo Xianmeng Wang Zhipeng Zhang Tianyi Wang Bintao Zhang Qiang Xu Yan Cui Qianqian Zhang Qiaoling Yuan Noushin Jahan Jie Ma Xiaoming Zheng Yongfeng Zhou Qian Qian Longbiao Guo Lianguang Shang | 2024 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2024,66,2: | 0
