1Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) numerical simulations on the interaction of the solar wind with the magnetosphere: A review显示文摘The magnetosphere is the outermost layer of the geospace, and the interaction of the solar wind with the magnetosphere is the key element of the space weather cause-and-effect chain process from the Sun to Earth, which is one of the most challenging scientific problems in the geospace weather study. The nonlinearity, multiple component, and time-dependent nature of the geospace make it very difficult to describe the physical process in geospace using traditional analytic analysis approach. Numerical simulations, a new research tool developed in recent decades, have a deep impact on the theory and application of the geospace. MHD simulations started at the end of the 1970s, and the initial study was limited to two-dimensional (2D) cases. Due to the intrinsic three-dimensional (3D) characteristics of the geospace, 3D MHD simulations emerged in the 1980s, in an attempt to model the large-scale structures and fundamental physical processes in the magnetosphere. They started to combine with the space exploration missions in the 1990s and make comparisons with observations. Physics-based space weather forecast models started to be developed in the 21st century. Currently only a few space-power countries such as USA and Japan have developed 3D magnetospheric MHD models. With the rapid advance of space science in China, we have developed a new global MHD model, namely PPMLR-MHD, which has high order spatial accuracy and low numerical dissipation. In this review, we will briefly introduce the global 3D MHD modeling, especially the PPMLR-MHD code, and summarize our recent work based on the PPMLR-MHD model, with an emphasis on the interaction of interplanetary shocks with the magnetosphere, large-scale current systems, reconnection voltage and transpolar potential drop, and Kelvin-Helmholtz (K-H) instability at the magnetopause.WANG Chi GUO XiaoCheng PENG Zhong TANG BinBin SUN TianRan LI WenYa HU YouQiu 2013Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,7:10
2Electrodynamic Coupling in the Solar Wind-Magnetosphere-Ionosphere System显示文摘This paper presents a brief summary of our recent work based on global MHD simulations of the Solar wind-Magnetosphere-Ionosphere (SMI) system with emphasis on the electrodynamic coupling in the system.The main conclusions obtained are summarized as follows.(1) As a main dynamo of the SMI system,the bow shock contributes to both region 1 Field-Aligned Current (FAC) and cross-tail current.Under strong interplanetary driving conditions and moderate Alfv'en Mach numbers,the bow shock's contribution may exceed more than fifty percent of the total of either region 1 or cross-tail currents.(2) In terms of more than 100 simulation runs with due southward Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF),we have found a combined parameter f=E sw P sw M A -1/2 (E sw,P sw,and M A are the solar wind electric field,ram pressure,and Alfv'en Mach number,respectively):both the ionospheric transpolar potential and the magnetopause reconnection voltage vary linearly with f for small f,but saturate for large f.(3) The reconnection voltage is approximately fitted by sin 3/2 (θ IMF /2),where θ IMF is the IMF clock angle.The ionospheric transpolar potential,the voltage along the polar cap boundary,and the electric fields along the merging line however defined they may be,respond differently to θ IMF,so it is not justified to take them as substitutes for the reconnection voltage.Hu Youqiu Wang Chi 2010空间科学学报2010,30,4:2
3Absorption, fluorescence and resonance Rayleigh scattering spectral characteristics of interaction of gold nanoparticle with safranine T显示文摘The interaction between gold nanoparticle and safranine T (ST) has been studied with resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) spectra, absorption and fluorescence spectra. In the pH 5 solution, citrate [(H2L)2?] self-assembles on the surface of positively-charged gold nanopar-ticle, which results in the [(Au)n(H2L)m]x? complex. In other words, one of carboxylate oxygens in (H2L)2? moves inward and combines with gold nanoparticle. The other carboxylate oxygens moves outward to form a supermolecular complex anion with x negative charges. Then by virtue of electrostatic attraction, hydrophobic force and charge transfer action, the complex anion binds with ST cation to form a new ion-association complex. Here (H2L)2? acts as a bridge. The forma-tion of the complex results in the significant enhancement of RRS intensity, the appearance of new RRS spectrum, the red shift of plasma absorption band of gold nanoparticle as well as the decrease in the absorbance and fluorescence quenching for safranine T. In this work, the inter-action between gold nanoparticle and ST on the RRS, absorption and fluorescence spectra has been investigated. The reason why RRS intensity increases greatly and the reaction mechanism have been inquired. 5Pseudo-reconnection in MHD numerical simulation显示文摘A class of pseudo-reconnections caused by a shifted mesh in magnetohydrodynamics(MHD) simulations is reported. In terms of this mesh system, some non-physical results may be obtained in certain circumstances, e.g. magnetic reconnection occurs without resistivity.
