| 1 | Water quality criteria research and progress显示文摘Water quality criteria (WQC) are threshold limits for pollutants or other hazard factors in the ambient water environment, which are based on scientific experiments and extrapolations. Until now, there is limited information available regarding the study of water quality criteria in China. It is imperative to launch national-level systematic WQC studies that focus on the regional characteristics of China and provide scientific support for the enactment or revision of water quality standards and environmental management. This article reviews the concept of WQC and discusses the methodology and global progress of WQC research. The article also summarizes the key scientific issues in WQC research, including species sensitivity distribution, toxicological endpoint selection, and models selection. Furthermore, we can adopt the derivation method used in the USA and divide WQC into acute and chronic criteria. | 2 | Distribution characteristics and ecological risk assessment of PAHs in surface waters of China显示文摘The concentrations of PAHs in the surface waters from seven river basins in China were summarized from literature published from 2000-2010. Subsequently, the risks from individual PAHs and ∑PAHs in the surface waters of China were quantified by comparing the overlap between the probability distributions of exposure concentrations with the probability distributions of toxicity data. The results show that the concentrations of 15 PAHs in the surface waters ranged from 3.09 to 38139.00 ng L-1, with a geometric mean of 474.93 ng L-1. The significantly higher concentrations of the 15 PAHs occurred in the surface waters from northern China when compared with those from southern China. The concentrations of the 15 PAHs in Chinese surface waters were higher than those in other waters worldwide. The MOS10 (margin of safety) values were calculated at 90th percentile values of exposure concentrations and 10th percentile values of toxicity data, with 5.75, 0.17, 2.33, 0.30, 0.57, 1.74, 1.05, and 0.11 for Ace, Ant, Flu, BaP, Flua, Nap, Phe, and Pyr, respectively. The probabilities of the individual PAH concentrations exceeding the 10th percentile value of the toxicity data were 6.06%, 2.07%, 9.51%, and 2.07% for Nap, Ace, Phe, and Flu, respectively, suggesting minimal risk to aquatic organisms; however, the probabilities of BaP, Ant, Flua, and Pyr exceeding this value were 19.49%, 25.46%, 15.15%, and 30.50%, respectively, indicating potential risks. Among the individual PAHs, the ecological risk from Pyr was the highest, followed by, in descending order of risk, Ant, Bap, Flua, Phe, Nap, Flu, and Ace. Additionally, the combined ecological risk of ∑PAH8 in Chinese surface waters was significantly higher than any that of individual PAHs alone. The MOS10 values in the river basins were < 1, except for the Haihe River Basin, suggesting a potential combined risk from ∑PAH8 in the other six river basins. | 3 | The biological content of ballast water in China:A review显示文摘The introduction of species through the release of ballast water has become a major threats to marine biodiversity and ecosystem function worldwide.China is one of the top trading countries,yet little is known about exotic species in the ballast water of ships coming to its ports.Here,we review the biological surveys of ballast water from major Chinese ports.These surveys reveal that 40 species of nonindigenous phytoplankton that,belong to 25 genera and five phyla,have been observed in ballast water.The dominant species are diatoms and dinoflagellates.There were 17 red-tide causing species observed,five of which are noxious algae.Seventeen species of non-indigenous zooplankton have been reported,most of them(11)copepods.There were also 22 species of pathogenic bacteria recorded,including Vibrio alginolyticus,V.carchariae,V.parahaemolyticus,and V.vulnificus.These studies show that species introduction through ballast water potentially a serious threat to the ecology and human health in China.More research,including collaboration with the international community,is urgently needed to address this problem. | Huixian Wu Chen Chen Qiong Wang Junda Lin Junzeng Xue | 2017 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2017,2,6: | 11 |

| 6 | Late Holocene hydroclimatic variations and possible forcing mechanisms over the eastern Central Asia显示文摘Hydroclimatic variations over the eastern Central Asia are highly sensitive to changes in hemispheric-scale atmospheric circulation systems. To fully understand the long-term variability and relationship between hydroclimate and atmospheric circulation system, we present a high-resolution lascustrine record of late Holocene hydroclimate from Lake Sayram, Central Tianshan Mountains, China, based on the total organic carbon, total nitrogen, and carbonate contents, carbon/nitrogen ratios, and grain size. Our results reveal four periods of substantially increased precipitation at the interval of 4000–3780, 3590–3210, 2800–2160, and 890–280 cal yr BP, and one period of slightly increased precipitation from 1700–1370 cal yr BP. These wetter periods broadly coincide with those identified in other records from the mid-latitude Westerlies-dominated eastern Central Asia, including the northern Tibetan Plateau. As such, a similar hydroclimatic pattern existed over this entire region during the late Holocene. Based on a close similarity of our record with reconstruction of North Atlantic Oscillation indices and solar irradiance, we propose that decreased solar irradiance and southern migration of the entire circum-North Atlantic circulation system, particularly the main pathway of the mid-latitude Westerlies, significantly influenced hydroclimate in eastern Central Asia during the late Holocene. | 15 | An almost full reversible lithium-rich cathode: Revealing the mechanism of high initial coulombic efficiency显示文摘Low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) is an important impediment to practical application of Li-rich layered oxides (LLOs), which is due to the irreversible oxygen release. It is generally considered that surface oxygen vacancies are conducive to the improvement of ICE of LLOs. To reveal the relation of oxygen vacancies and ICE, sample PLO (Li-Mn-Cr-O) and its treated product (TLO) are comprehensive investigated in this work. During the treated process, part of oxygen atoms return to original constructed vacancies. It makes oxygen vacancies in sample TLO much poorer than those in sample PLO, and induces the formation of Li-poor spinel-layered integrated structure. Electrochemical measurement indicates the ICE of sample PLO is only 80.8%, while sample TLO is almost full reversible with the ICE of ~97.1%. In term of high-energy X-ray diffraction, scanning transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and synchrotron hard/soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy, we discover that the ICE is difficult to be improved significantly just by building oxygen vacancies. LLOs with high ICE not only have to construct suitable oxygen vacancies, but also require other components with Li-poor structure to stabilize oxygen. | 16 | Survivorship characteristics and adaptive mechanisms of phytoplankton assemblages in ballast water显示文摘Phytoplankton diversity and abundance were determined in ballast water from 26 vessels in the Shanghai Yangshan Deep-Water Port from April 2015 to January 2016. In total, 84 species of phytoplankton were identified, belonging to 43 genera and 5 phyla. Bacillariophyta (75.0%, including 30 genera and 63 species) were the dominant algae in the ballast water. Their density ranged from (5.55±9.62) SD to (1.878±0.872)×10 3 cells/L, with a mean of 410.1 cells/L. Nine potentially harmful phytoplankton taxa were detected: Ceratium furca , Ce . marcroceros , Leptocylindrus danicus , Coscinodiscus radiatus , Co . granii , Prorocentrum micans , Melosira sulcata , Meuniera membranacea and Skeletonema costatum . Our survey and identification results showed that Microcystis aeruginosa , Ankistrodesmus falcatus and Scenedesmus survived in the high-salinity ballast water, even though they are freshwater species. We identified the common features of surviving phytoplankton and impacts on the phytoplankton assemblage of ballast water age and source. | 18 | Comprehensive bioinformatics analysis of CYB561 expression in breast cancer:Link between prognosis and immune infiltration显示文摘Background:Cytochrome b561(CYB561)plays a critical role in neuroendocrine function,cardiovascular regulation,and tumor growth;however,the prognostic value of CYB561 in patients with breast cancer and the relationship between CYB561 expression and immune infiltration in breast cancer remain unclear.Methods:The mRNA expression and clinical data of patients with breast cancer were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database.Functional enrichment analysis was used to explore underlying biological functions associated with CYB561.The methylation status of CYB561 was analyzed using the MethSurv database.The enrichment score of immune cell infiltration for CYB561 in breast cancer was calculated using single-sample gene set enrichment analysis.The prognostic value of CYB561 was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis.Based on the results of the multivariate Cox analysis,a nomogram was constructed to predict the effect of CYB561 expression on overall survival(OS).Results:The results showed that CYB561 was highly expressed in breast cancer tissues.Hypomethylation of CYB561 is associated with an unfavorable prognosis.In multivariate Cox regression analysis,CYB561 was an independent prognostic factor for OS.Functional enrichment analysis indicated that estrogen signaling pathway,inflammatory response,KRAS signaling pathway,epithelial-mesenchymal transition,leukocyte migration,and regulation of lymphocyte activation were strongly enriched in the low CYB561 expression group.Additionally,CYB561 expression was negatively correlated with immune infiltration of B cells,plasmacytoid dendritic cells,dendritic cells,and neutrophils.Conclusion:CYB561 may serve as a potential biomarker for breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis. | XI YANG HUIXIAN WU CHAO XIONG BO ZHAO MEILIAN LIU JIE QIN MEI DENG | 2023 | BIOCELL2023,47,5: | 0 |

| 20 | Invasion and Morphological Variation of the Non- Indigenous Barnacle Chthamalus challengeri(Hoek, 1883) in Yangshan Port and its Surrounding Areas显示文摘Invasive species generally possess unique characteristics that allow them to survive the invasion process in order to establish and spread in new habitats. Successful invaders must resist both physical and physiological stresses associated with the changing environment. A common littoral barnacle, Chthamalus challengeri Hoek, 1883(Crustacea, Cirripedia), which is native to Japan, South Korea and northern China, has become established in the high-littoral zone adjacent to Yangshan Port, Shanghai, China. A comparison of the morphology of Chthamlus species from Zhoushan archipelago with previous description indicates the occurrence of C. challengeri. The new immigrant becomes a dominant species in certain high-intertidal habitats of the adjacent area to of Yangshan Port. C. challengeri was found in part of sampling sites in Zhoushan in 2010; however, it dispersed to all the eleven sampling sites in 2012. Densities of C.challengeri had increased over 10 times in the last 2 years, with the highest mean value reaching 39533 ± 6243 ind. m-2 in the new habitat.
