1Diversification, bank performance and risk:have Tunisian banks adopted the new business model?显示文摘Background:The objective of this paper is threefold.First,we test the most important factors that determine the level of non-interest income for Tunisian banks.Second,we study the impact of non-interest income on banks’profitability measured by both return on assets(ROA)and return on equity(ROE).Finally,we investigate the relationship between non-interest income and the level of risk taking.Methods:To achieve this goal,we used annual data of 20 Tunisian banks during the period 2005-2012.In the empirical section we performed a Dynamic Panel Data model.Results:Empirical results indicate that the main determinants of non-interest income are:relative performance(RROA and RROE),bank size,loan specialization and new epayments channels,automatic teller machine(ATM)and credit cards.We also find that diversification increases bank performance for both ROA and ROE measures.Eventually,non-interest income appears to be negatively and significantly correlated with the effect on the level of risk.Conclusions:Tunisian banks are invited to more diversify their activities and do not focus only on the traditional activity.The noninterest income seems to be associated with a higher level of profitability and a lower risk.Helmi Hamdi Abdelaziz Hakimi Khemais Zaghdoudi 2017Financial Innovation2017,3,1:4

4Preparation, characterization, and antibacterial activity of γ-irradiated silver nanoparticles in aqueous gelatin显示文摘Colloidal silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) were obtained through γ-irradiation of aqueous solutions containing AgNO 3 and gelatin as a silver source and stabilizer, respectively. The absorbed dose of γ-irradiation influences the particle diameter of the Ag-NPs, as evidenced from surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images. When the γ-irradiation dose was increased (from 2 to 50 kGy), the mean particle size was decreased continuously as a result of γ-induced Ag-NPs fragmentation. The antibacterial properties of the Ag-NPs were tested against Methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (Gram-positive) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P.a) (Gram-negative) bacteria. This approach reveals that the γ-irradiation-mediated method is a promising simple route for synthesizing highly stable Ag-NPs in aqueous solutions with good antibacterial properties for different applications.Majid Darroudi Mansor B. 5A mouse model of weight-drop closed head injury:emphasis on cognitive and neurological deficiency显示文摘Traumatic brain injury(TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability in individuals worldwide.Producing a clinically relevant TBI model in small-sized animals remains fairly challenging.For good screening of potential therapeutics,which are effective in the treatment of TBI,animal models of TBI should be established and standardized.In this study,we established mouse models of closed head injury using the Shohami weight-drop method with some modifications concerning cognitive deficiency assessment and provided a detailed description of the severe TBI animal model.We found that 250 g falling weight from 2 cm height produced severe closed head injury in C57BL/6 male mice.Cognitive disorders in mice with severe closed head injury could be detected using passive avoidance test on day 7 after injury.Findings from this study indicate that weight-drop injury animal models are suitable for further screening of brain neuroprotectants and potentially are similar to those seen in human TBI.Igor Khalin Nor Laili Azua Jamari Nadiawati Bt Abdul Razak Zubaidah Bt Hasain Mohd Asri bin Mohd Nor Mohd Hakimi bin Ahmad Zainudin Ainsah Bt Omar Renad Alyautdin 2016Neural Regeneration Research2016,11,4:2
6Filamentation of Metabolic Enzymes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae显示文摘Compartmentation via filamentation has recently emerged as a novel mechanism for metabolic regulation. In order to identify filamentforming metabolic enzymes systematically, we performed a genome-wide screening of all strains available from an open reading frameGFP collection in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We discovered nine novel filament-forming proteins and also confirmed those identified previously. From the 4159 strains, we found 23 proteins, mostly metabolic enzymes, which are capable of forming filaments in vivo. In silico protein-protein interaction analysis suggests that these filament-forming proteins can be clustered into several groups, including translational initiation machinery and glucose and nitrogen metabolic pathways. Using glutamine-utilising enzymes as examples, we found that the culture conditions affect the occurrence and length of the metabolic filaments. Furthermore, we found that two CTP synthases(Ura7p and Ura8p) and two asparagine synthetases(Asn1p and Asn2p) form filaments both in the cytoplasm and in the nucleus.Live imaging analyses suggest that metabolic filaments undergo sub-diffusion. 7Mechanistic, Energetic and Structural Aspects of the Adsorption of Carmustine on the Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes显示文摘Using density functional theory, noncovalent interactions and two mechanisms of covalent functionalization of drug carmustine with functionalized carbon nanotube(CNT) have been investigated. Quantum molecular descriptors of noncovalent configurations were studied. It was specified that binding of drug carmustine with functionalized CNT is thermodynamically suitable. NTCOOH and NTCOCl can bond to the NH group of carmustine through OH(COOH mechanism) and Cl(COCl mechanism) groups, respectively. The activation energies, activation enthalpies and activation Gibbs free energies of two pathways were calculated and compared with each other. The activation parameters related to COOH mechanism are higher than those related to COCl mechanism, and therefore COCl mechanism is suitable for covalent functionalization. COOH functionalized CNT(NTCOOH) has more binding energy than COCl functionalized CNT(NTCOCl) and can act as a favorable system for carmustine drug delivery within biological and chemical systems(noncovalent).
