1Evolutionary conservation of Dmrt gene family in amphibi-ans, reptiles and birds显示文摘Sex determining gene Mab-3 of C. elegans and doublesex of Drosophila contain a common DNA binding motif called a DM domain, both of which regulate similar aspects of sexual development. Human doublesex-related gene DMRT1 has been identified, which also contains the conserved DM-related DNA-binding domain and plays an essential role in gonadal differentiation. We present the amplification of a broad spectrum of DM domain sequences from phylogenetic diverse vertebrates (Cynops orientalis, Chrysemys scripta elegans and Coturnix coturnix) using degenerate PCR. 4Finding and evaluating the community structure in semantic peer-to-peer overlay networks显示文摘Recently much attention has been paid to semantic overlay networks for information retrieval in large scale peer-to-peer networks,and much research work on semantic overlay protocols and searching algorithms has been done and the results indicate that semantic overlay is efficient for content searching in peer-to-peer networks.However,very limited work has been done to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of semantic overlay networks.In this paper we identify a natural property of semantic overlay networks,the community structure.We propose a mathematical model to evaluate the property of community structure of semantic P2P overlay networks.A heuristic algorithm is designed to optimize the community structure.Using the evaluation model we compare the SemreX semantic overlay with the Gnutella network.Results demonstrate that a SemreX overlay network has the distinctive community structure feature,while a Gnutella-like network does not.We also simulate a simple flooding protocol in both overlays to show that the overlay with community structure is more efficient for content searching.CHEN HanHua JIN Hai 2011Science China(Information Sciences)2011,54,7:7
5Hybrid followee recommendation in microblogging systems显示文摘Followee recommendation plays an important role in information sharing over microblogging platforms. Existing followee recommendation schemes adopt either content relevance or social information for followee ranking, suffering poor performance. Based on the observation that microblogging systems have dual roles of social network and news media platform, we propose a novel followee recommendation scheme that takes into account the information sources of both tweet contents and the social structures. We set up a linear weighted model to combine the two factors and further design a simulated annealing algorithm to automatically assign the weights of both factors in order to achieve an optimized combination of them. We conduct comprehensive experiments on real-world datasets collected from Sina Weibo, the largest microblogging system in China. 6Competition of bloom-forming marine phytoplankton at low nutrient concentrations显示文摘Competition of three bloom-forming marine phytoplankton (diatom Skeletonema costatum, and dinoflagellates Prorocentrum minimum and Alexandrium tamarense) was studied through a series of multispecies cultures with different nitrate (NaNO 3 ) and phosphate (NaH 2 PO 4 ) levels and excess silicate to interpret red tide algae succession. S. costatum outgrew the other two dinoflagellates in nitrate and phosphate replete cultures with 10 μmol/L Na 2 SiO 3 . Under nitrate limited (8.82 μmol/L NaNO 3 ) conditions, the growth of S. costatum was also dominant when phosphate concentrations were from 3.6 to 108 μmol/L. Cell density of the two dinoflagellates only increased slightly, to less than 400 and 600 cells/mL, respectively. Cell density of S. costatum decreased with time before day 12, and then increased to 4000 cells/mL (1.5 mg/L dry biomass) at NaNO 3 concentrations between 88.2 and 882 μmol/L with limited phosphate (0.36 μmol/L NaH 2 PO 4 ) levels. In addition, P. minimum grew well with a maximal cell density of 1690-2100 cells/mL (0.5-0.6 mg/L dry biomass). Although S. costatum initially grew fast, its cell density decreased quickly with time later in the growth phase and the two dinoflagellates were dominant under the nitrate-limited and high nitrate conditions with limited phosphate. These results indicated that the diatom was a poor competitor compared to the two dinoflagellates under limited phosphate; however, it grew well under limited nitrate when growth of the dinoflagellates was near detection limits.Hanhua Hu Jun Zhang Weidong Chen 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,4:5
7Quercetin attenuates the progression of monocrotaline-induced pulmonary hypertension in rats显示文摘Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disease associated with increased constriction and remodeling of the pulmonary vasculature.Quercetin is a natural flavonoid and has a variety of pharmacological effects including improvement of endothelial cell function.However,its pharmacological effects on pulmonary hypertension have been rarely reported.We sought to observe the protective effect of quercetin in rats with monocrotaline induced PAH.We divided 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats randomly into three groups with ten rats in each group:the monocrotaline group,the quercetin group and the control group.We found that,compared with the controls,the mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) and the right ventricular hypertrophy index in the monocrotaline group were significantly higher (P < 0.01).Quercetin caused a significant reduction both in the mPAP and right ventricular hypertrophy index compared with the monocrotaline group (P < 0.01) while no difference was found between the quercetin group and the control group (P > 0.05).Monocrotaline induced a marked increase in the wall thickness (WT) in small and mid-sized pulmonary arteries compared with the controls (P < 0.01).Monocrotaline also induced a marked increase in the wall area (WA) in small [(56.38±6.65)% in monocrotaline vs.(19.80±4.63)% in control] and mid-sized [(43.71±5.38)% in monocrotaline vs.(14.24±3.66)% in control] pulmonary arteries (P < 0.01).Quercetin treatment markedly reduced monocrotaline induced increase in both WT and WA (P < 0.01),which,however,still remained significantly elevated compared with those of the controls (P < 0.01).Furthermore,compared with controls,proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression in the pulmonary artery tissues was markedly increased by monocrotaline [(45.59±1.27) in monocrotaline vs.(9.64±0.69) in controls],which was significantly attenuated by quercetin.Our animal experiment indicated that quercetin could have protective effects on monocrotaline-induced PAH.Hanhua Gao Can Chen Shi'an Huang Bo Li 2012The Journal of Biomedical Research2012,26,2:4

9Enhanced expression of antifreeze protein genes drives the development of freeze tolerance in an Antarctica isolate of Chlorella vulgaris显示文摘In adaptation to new environments, organisms may accumulate mutations within encoding sequences to modify protein characteristics or acquire mutations within regulatory sequences to alter gene expression levels. With the development of antifreeze capability as the example, this study presents the evidence that change in gene expression level is probably the most important mechanism for adaptive evolution in a green alga Chlorella vulgaris. C. vulgaris NJ-7, an isolate from Antarctica, possesses an 18S rRNA sequence identical to that of a temperate isolate, SAG211-11b/UTEX259, but shows much higher freeze tolerance than the later isolate. The chromosomal DNA/cDNA of four antifreeze genes, namely hiC6, hiC12, rpl10a and hsp70, from the two isolates of C. vulgaris were cloned and sequenced, and very few variations of deduced amino acid sequences were found. 10New Small Shelly Fossils(Acanthocassis and Xinlispina Gen.Nov.) from the Fortunian Stage(Early Cambrian) in Southern China显示文摘We describe new material of three-dimensionally phosphatized small shelly fossils Acanthocassis and Xinlispina gen.nov.from the Fortunian Stage(early Cambrian) of southern Shaanxi and northern Sichuan Provinces.The new materials allow description of the delicate morphology of these skeletons, and also their skeletogenesis.Acanthocassis and Xinlispina have comparable morphological features: a main branch and radially arranged sub-branches.They differ from each other in many details, e.g., the presence of a single central branch only in Xinlispina, and the presence of small nodes only in Acanthocassis.Acanthocassis cannot be a naked anthopolyp or hydropolyp because of the more-or-less stiffened cuticle and the absence of a mouth.Acanthocassisand Xinlispina differ from coeval sponge spicules and chancelloriid sclerites and rosettes of crossed pedicellariae of echinoderms, and might be cuticular ornaments of animals of unclear affinities.They occur in the first small shelly fossil assemblage zone, and could be adopted as auxiliary fossils for biostratigraphic correlation in southern China.SHAO Tiequan LIU Yunhuan WANG Qi ZHANG Huaqiao TANG Hanhua CAO Xi HE Huahua ZHANG Yanan LI Yuan ZHENG Panlin ZHU Chengyu HU Jiaxi 2015Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2015,89,5:2
11New Maikhanellid Shells and Siphogonuchitid Spicule Bundles from the Cambrian Fortunian Stage of South China显示文摘Maikhanellids are a distinct group of Cambrian Fortunian small shelly fossils by the capshaped profiles and scaly shell ornamentation.According to the individual shell shape and ornamentation feature types of 50 maikhanellids fossils which were collected from Xixiang botia,we confirmed the family Maikhanellidae content of six genera,which are Maikhanella,Ramenta,Purella,Ramentoides,Yunnannopleura and Mediata.Unlike the halkieriid animals whose shells and spicules are articulated on different body parts,maikhanellids were presumably yielded by siphogonuchitid spicules penetrating the intermediate matrix(the 'spicule shell' hypothesis),and this is the reason that some researchers treated maikhanellids and co-occurring siphogonuchitids as synonyms.The affinities of Maikhanellids and siphogonuchitids remain debatable.Here,we report three dimensionally phosphatized maikhanellid shells and siphogonuchitid spicule bundles from the Cambrian Fortunian small shell faunas of South China.They differ from all the previously reported maikhanellids and siphogonuchitids,and may represent new types.The intact and smooth surface underneath the partially preserved scales of the shells challenges the 'spicule-shell' hypothesis.The present siphogonuchitid spicules differ from the maikhanellid scales in size,morphology,and.arrangement pattern,thus the spicules might not be derived from the shells.Whether the shells and spicule bundles were articulated on different body parts of the same animals remains unknown.LIU Yunhuan ZHANG Yanan SHAO Tiequan TANG Hanhua JIANG Kaituo WANG Qi CHEN Cheng DONG Junyan LIANG Yongchun DAI Jun XUE Jiaqi 2016Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2016,90,5:2
