How does financial literacy impact on inclusive finance?显示文摘Inclusive finance is a core concept of finance that makes various financial products and services accessible and affordable to all individuals and businesses, especially those excluded from the formal financial system. One of the leading forces affecting people’s ability to access financial services in rural areas is financial literacy. This study investigated the impacts of financial knowledge on financial access through banking, microfinance, and fintech access using the Bangladesh rural population data.We employed three econometrics models:logistic regression, probit regression, and complementary log–log regression to examine whether financial literacy significantly affects removing the barriers that prevent people from participating and using financial services to improve their lives. The empirical findings showed that knowledge regarding various financial services factors had significant impacts on getting financial access. Some variables such as profession, income level, knowledge regarding depositing and withdrawing money, and knowledge regarding interest rate highly affected the overall access to finance. The study’s results provide valuable recommendations for the policymaker to improve financial inclusion in the developing country context.A comprehensive and long-term education program should be delivered broadly to the rural population to make a big stride in financial inclusion,a key driver of poverty reduction and prosperity boosting.Morshadul Hasan Thi Le Ariful Hoque 2021Financial Innovation2021,7,1:5

A multi-purpose National Forest Inventory in Bangladesh:design, operationalisation and key results显示文摘Background:National forest inventory and forest monitoring systems are more important than ever considering continued global degradation of trees and forests. These systems are especially important in a country like Bangladesh, which is characterised by a large population density, climate change vulnerability and dependence on natural resources. With the aim of supporting the Government’s actions towards sustainable forest management through reliable information, the Bangladesh Forest Inventory(BFI)was designed and implemented through three components:biophysical inventory,socio-economic survey and remote sensing-based land cover mapping. This article documents the approach undertaken by the Forest Department under the Ministry of Environment,Forests and Climate Change to establish the BFI as a multipurpose, efficient, accurate and replicable national forest assessment. The design, operationalization and some key results of the process are presented. Methods:The BFI takes advantage of the latest and most well-accepted technological and methodological approaches.Importantly,it was designed through a collaborative process which drew from the experience and knowledge of multiple national and international entities.Overall,1781 field plots were visited,6400 households were surveyed, and a national land cover map for the year 2015 was produced.Innovative technological enhancements include a semi-automated segmentation approach for developing the wall-to-wall land cover map,an object-based national land characterisation system, consistent estimates between sample-based and mapped land cover areas, use of mobile apps for tree species identification and data collection, and use of differential global positioning system for referencing plot centres. Results:Seven criteria, and multiple associated indicators, were developed for monitoring progress towards sustainable forest management goals, informing management decisions, and national and international reporting needs.A wide range of biophysical and socioeconomic data were collected, and in some cases integrated, for estimating the indicators. Conclusions:The BFI is a new information source tool for helping guide Bangladesh towards a sustainable future.Reliable information on the status of tree and forest resources,as well as land use, empowers evidence-based decision making across multiple stakeholders and at different levels for protecting natural resources. The integrated socioeconomic data collected provides information about the interactions between people and their tree and forest resources, and the valuation of ecosystem services. The BFI is designed to be a permanent assessment of these resources, and future data collection will enable monitoring of trends against the current baseline. However, additional institutional support as well as continuation of collaboration among national partners is crucial for sustaining the BFI process in future.Matieu Henry Zaheer Iqbal Kristofer Johnson Mariam Akhter Liam Costello Charles Scott Rashed Jalal Md.Akhter Hossain Nikhil Chakma Olaf Kuegler Hossain Mahmood Rajib Mahamud Mohammad Raqibul Hasan Siddique Khaled Misbahuzzaman Mohammad Main Uddin Mohammed Al Amin Farid Uddin Ahmed Gael Sola Md.Baktiar Siddiqui Luca Birigazzi Mahmudur Rahman Ilias Animon Saimunnahar Ritu Laskar Muqsudur Rahman Aminul Islam Heather Hayden Frida Sidik Mondal Falgoonee Kumar Rakibul Hassan Mukul Hossain Nishad Ariful Hoque Belal Asif Reza Anik Abdul Khaleque Md.Shaheduzzaman Syed Shahadat Hossain Tariq Aziz Md.Tauhidor Rahaman Ruhul Mohaiman Patrick Meyer Purnata Chakma A.Z.M.Manzoor Rashid Sourav Das Shrabanti Hira Mohammed Jashimuddin Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman Karl Wurster Sarder Nasir Uddin Abul Kalam Azad S.M.Zahirul Islam Laurent Saint-André 2021Forest Ecosystems2021,8,1:0
Isolation and identification of microfungi from soils in Serdang,Selangor,Malaysia显示文摘Microfungi are commonly inhabited soil with various roles. The present study was conducted in order to isolate and identify microfungi from soil samples in Serdang,Selangor,Malaysia. In this study, the soil microfungi were isolated using serial dilution technique and spread plate method.A total of 25 isolates were identified into ten genera based on internal transcribed spacer region(ITS)sequence analysis, namely Aspergillus,Clonostachys,Colletotrichum,Curvularia,Gliocladiopsis,Metarhizium,Myrmecridium,Penicillium,Scedosporium and Trichoderma consisting 18 fungi species.Aspergillus and Penicillium species were claimed as predominant microfungi inhabiting the soil.Findings from this study can be used as a checklist for future studies related to fungi distribution in tropical lands. For improving further study, factors including the physicochemical properties of soil and anthropogenic activities in the sampling area should be included.Mohd Nazri NIA Mohd Zaini NA Aris A Hasan ZAE Abd Murad NB Yusof MT Mohd Zainudin NAI 2020Studies in Fungi2020,5,1:0
Evaluation of agro-based waste substrates for micropropagule formation in biocontrol fungi,Trichoderma asperellum and T.harzianum显示文摘Trichoderma species have shown efficiency on biocontrol of phytopathogens. For commercial application,it must be propagated in mass scale using a cost-effective method. As an alternative way to effectively deliver biocontrol fungi inoculum to the field;seven agro-based wastes including rice bran, biochar, empty fruit bunches, coconut fibre, compost, topsoil and mixed soil were used in this study for evaluating mass multiplication of Trichoderma species.Based on the evaluation of colony-forming units(cfu)among the agro-based waste media used, coconut fibre is the most suitable in promoting the sporulation of Trichoderma asperellum and T.harzianum.Trichoderma asperellum C1667 showed the higher micropropagule count through incubation period compared to T.harzianum C1675.After 120 days on the agro-based waste media,T.asperellum C1667 and T.harzianum C1675 produced the highest(7.717×10^(5)cfu/g and 6.836±13.79×10^(5)cfu/g)coconut fibres, respectively.Meanwhile, the mixed soil appeared with the lowest cfu.Coconut fibres were shown as a great biocomposting medium for both Trichoderma species.Findings of the present study are valuable for disease management using agro-based wastes as a cost-effective medium for biocontrol agents like Trichoderma species.Hasan ZAE Mohd Zainudin NAI Aris A Ibrahim MH Yusof MT 2020Studies in Fungi2020,5,1:0
Simulation-based mastery learning in gastrointestinal endoscopy training显示文摘Simulation-based mastery learning(SBML)is an emerging form of competencybased training that has been proposed as the next standard method for procedural task training, including that in gastr-ointestinal endoscopy.Current basic gastrointestinal endoscopy training relies on the number of procedures performed, and it has been criticized for its lack of objective standards that result in variable skills among trainees and its association with patient safety risk. Thus, incorporating simulators into a competency-based curriculum seems ideal for gastrointestinal endoscopy training. The curriculum for SBML in gastrointestinal endoscopy is currently being developed and has promising potential to translate into the clinical performance.Unlike the present apprenticeship model of“see one,do one, teach one,”SBML integrates a competency-based curriculum with specific learning objectives alongside simulation-based training. This allows trainees to practice essential skills repeatedly, receive feedback from experts, and gradually develop their abilities to achieve mastery. Moreover, trainees and trainers need to understand the learning targets of the program so that trainees can focus their learning on the necessary skills and trainers can provide structured feedback based on the expected outcomes. In addition to learning targets,an assessment plan is essential to provide trainees with future directions for their improvement and ensure patient safety by issuing a passing standard. Finally, the SBML program should be planned and managed by a specific team and conducted within a developed and tested curriculum. This review discusses the current state of gastr-ointestinal endoscopy training and the role of SBML in that field.Hasan Maulahela Nagita Gianty Annisa Tiffany Konstantin Ari Fahrial Syam Roy Soetikno 2022World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2022,14,9:0
Colorectal cancer patients in a tertiary hospital in Indonesia: Prevalence of the younger population and associated factors显示文摘BACKGROUND An increasing trend in colorectal cancer(CRC)occurring at younger ages has been observed worldwide, even though incidence is declining in the general population. Most currently available guidelines still recommend CRC screening for older populations, despite an alarming rise in early-onset CRC incidence.Risk stratification is necessary to further determine the population most at risk for early-onset CRC.However, epidemiological data on related clinical characteristics and potential risk factors, especially in developing countries, have not been widely reported.AIM To investigate the prevalence, demographics, clinicopathologic features, and associated factors of young-onset CRC patients in a tertiary hospital in Indonesia.METHODS Patients undergoing colonoscopy examination between 2008 and 2019,yielding a diagnosis of CRC were identified from medical records. The subjects were classified into two groups according to their age at diagnosis, namely early-onset(18-49 years old)and late-onset(≥50-years-old).Demographic data, characteristics, and risk factors of both onset age groups were evaluated using the chisquare and Fisher’s exact test.RESULTS Among 495 CRC patients confirmed by histopathology,205(41.4%)were classified as early-onset and 290(58.6%)as late-onset.Most subjects in the earlyonset CRC group were male(53.7%),with 89.8%displaying adenocarcinoma histopathology.A majority(78%)of the early-onset CRC patients had left-sided tumors, with the rectum(41%)and rectosigmoid(17.6%)being the most common sites.Abdominal pain was the most frequent symptom in the early-onset CRC patients(55.6%),which was significantly higher than that in the late-onset CRC patients(43.8%,P<0.05).Early-onset CRC cases were more likely to be underweight(34.6%vs 20.0%,P<0.001)compared to late-onset CRC cases. The proportion of subjects with suspected hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer(HNPCC)was also higher in the early-onset CRC group than in the late-onset age group(9.3%vs 4.1%,P<0.05).However,no difference was observed in the parental or family histories of CRC cases.CONCLUSION Early-onset CRC patients were more likely to have abdominal pain, underweight status, and HNPCC suspicion than late-onset CRC patients.Dadang Makmun Marcellus Simadibrata Murdani Abdullah Ari F Syam Hamzah Shatri Achmad Fauzi KakaRenaldi Hasan Maulahela Amanda P Utari Rabbinu R Pribadi Virly N Muzellina Saskia A Nursyirwan 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,32:0
