1The soil configuration on granite residuals affects Benggang erosion by altering the soil water regime on the slope显示文摘A permanent collapsing gully, locally called Benggang, formed on slopes with deep granite red soil and is a type of unique gully erosion widely prevalent in southern China.Three different soil configurations(SC),ie,red-transition-sandy(SC I,the transition is the soil layer between the red soil and the sandy soil layer),transition-sandy(SC II)or sandy(SC III)are usually present in the soil profile of the Benggang slope. However, little attention has been paid to impacts of SCs on the triggering of Benggang erosion. In this study,we aimed to explore the relationships between soil water content(SWC)and triggering of Benggang erosion under different SC conditions. The soil properties of different soil layers were measured and the SWC at depths of 20,40,60,and 80 cm were monitored at 5-min intervals along a typical Benggang(SC I)during 2016-2018.The SWC of Benggang slopes with different SCs were simulated by VADOSE/W model. Results showed that the red soil layer had a higher water retention capacity and shear strength than the sandy soil layer.Even if the SWC is higher(e.g.,0.42 cm^(3)/cm^(3))at red soil layer or transition layer, the corresponding shear strength is greater than that of sandy soil layer with a lower SWC(e.g.,032 cm^(3)/cm^(3)).Relationships between shear strength and SWC of different soil layers indicate that Benggang erosion is triggered by an increase in the SWC in the deep sandy layer. Results also showed that differences exist in the SWC distribution among the different SCs.The SWC is higher in topsoil than in deeper soil in SC I and SC II,while in SC III,the opposite trend is observed. These results revealed that the presence of the red soil or transition layer can reduce the infiltration of rainwater into the deep sandy layer, thus can reduce the possibility of collapse. Our results show that the SC affects the stability of the headwall, and results provide great significances to guide the mitigation of Benggang erosion.Xiaoqian Duan Yusong Deng Yu Tao Yangbo He Lirong Lin Jiazhou Chen 2021International Soil and Water Conservation Research2021,9,3:4
2Phase-matching-induced near-chirp-free solitons in normal-dispersion fiber lasers显示文摘Direct generation of chirp-free solitons without external compression in normal-dispersion fiber lasers is a long-term challenge in ultrafast optics. We demonstrate near-chirp-free solitons with distinct spectral sidebands in normaldispersion hybrid-structure fiber lasers containing a few meters of polarization-maintaining fiber. The bandwidth and duration of the typical mode-locked pulse are 0.74 nm and 1.95 ps,respectively, giving the time-bandwidth product of 0.41 and confirming the near-chirp-free property.Numerical results and theoretical analyses fully reproduce and interpret the experimental observations, and show that the fiber birefringence,normal-dispersion,and nonlinear effect follow a phase-matching principle, enabling the formation of the near-chirp-free soliton.Specifically, the phasematching effect confines the spectrum broadened by self-phase modulation and the saturable absorption effect slims the pulse stretched by normal dispersion.Such pulse is termed as birefringence-managed soliton because its two orthogonal-polarized components propagate in an unsymmetrical“X”manner inside the polarization-maintaining fiber, partially compensating the group delay difference induced by the chromatic dispersion and resulting in the selfconsistent evolution. The property and formation mechanism of birefringence-managed soliton fundamentally differ from other types of pulses in mode-locked fiber lasers, which will open new research branches in laser physics, soliton mathematics, and their related applications.Dong Mao Zhiwen He Yusong Zhang Yueqing Du Chao Zeng Ling Yun Zhichao Luo Tijian Li Zhipei Sun Jianlin Zhao 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,2:3

6Molecular Basis of KAT2A Selecting Acyl-CoA Cofactors for Histone Modifications显示文摘Emerging discoveries about undocumented acyltransferase activities of known histone acetyltransferases(HATs)advance our understandings in the regulation of histone modifications. However, the molecular basis of HATs selecting acyl coenzyme A(acyl-CoA)substrates for histone modification is less known. We here report that lysine acetyltransferase 2A(KAT2A)as an illustrative instance of HATs can selectively utilize acetyl-CoA,propionyl-CoA,butyryl-CoA,and succinyl-CoA to directly deposit 18 histone acylation hallmarks in nucleosome.By analyzing the co-crystal structures of the catalytic domain of KAT2A in complex with acetyl-CoA,propionyl-CoA,butyryl-CoA,malonyl-CoA,succinyl-CoA,and glutaryl-CoA,we conclude that the alternative substrate-binding pocket of KAT2A and the length and electrostatic features of the acyl chain cooperatively determine the selection of the acyl-CoA substrates by KAT2A.This study reveals the molecular basis underlying the pluripotency of HATs that selectively install acylation hallmarks in nucleosomes, which might serve as instrumental mechanism to precisely regulate histone acylation profiles in cells.Sha Li Nan Li Jie He Runxin Zhou Zhimin Lu Yizhi Jane Tao Yusong R.Guo Yugang Wang 2023Research2023,,4:0
