1The RALF1-FERONIA Complex Phosphorylates eIF4E1 to Promote Protein Synthesis and Polar Root Hair Growth显示文摘The molecular links between extracellular signals and the regulation of localized protein synthesis in plant cells are poorly understood.Here,we show that in Arabidopsis thaliana,the extracellular peptide RALF1 and its receptor,the FERONIA receptor kinase,promote root hair(RH)tip growth by modulating protein synthesis.We found that RALF1 promotes FERONIA-mediated phosphorylation of elF4E1,a eukaryotic translation initiation factor that plays a crucial role in the control of mRNA translation rate.Phosphorylated elF4E1 increases mRNA affinity and modulates mRNA translation and,thus,protein synthesis.The mRNAs targeted by the RALF1-FERONIA-elF4E1 module include ROP2 and RSL4,which are important regulators of RH cell polarity and growth.RALF1 and FERONIA are expressed in a polar manner in RHs,which facilitate elF4E1 polar丨ocalization and thus may control local f?OP2 translation.Moreover,we demonstrated that high-level accumulation of RSL4 exerts negative-feedback regulation of RALF1 expression by directly binding the RALF1 gene promoter,determining the final RH size.Our study reveals that the link between RALF1-FERONIA signaling and protein synthesis constitutes a novel component regulating cell expansion in these polar growing cells.Sirui Zhu Jose Manuel Estevez Hongdong Liao Yonghua Zhu Tao Yang Chiyu Li Yichuan Wang Lan Li Xuanming Liu Javier Martinez Pacheco Hongwei Guo Feng Yu 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,5:3
2Functional modules with disease discrimination abilities for various cancers显示文摘Selecting differentially expressed genes(DEGs) is one of the most important tasks in microarray applications for studying multi-factor diseases including cancers.However,the small samples typically used in current microarray studies may only partially reflect the widely altered gene expressions in complex diseases,which would introduce low reproducibility of gene lists selected by statistical methods.Here,by analyzing seven cancer datasets,we showed that,in each cancer,a wide range of functional modules have altered gene expressions and thus have high disease classification abilities.The results also showed that seven modules are shared across diverse cancers,suggesting hints about the common mechanisms of cancers.Therefore,instead of relying on a few individual genes whose selection is hardly reproducible in current microarray experiments,we may use functional modules as functional signatures to study core mechanisms of cancers and build robust diagnostic classifiers.YAO Chen ZHANG Min ZOU JinFeng LI HongDong WANG Dong ZHU Jing GUO Zheng 2011Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,2:3
3Diabetic kidney disease treated with a modified Shenzhuo formula derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine:a case report显示文摘INTRODUCTION: Diabetic kidney disease(DKD) is one of the most common microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus and is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. DKD seriously affects the quality of life of patients and brings heavy economic burden to the country. At present, the pathogenesis of DKD is not entirely clear, and clinical treatment is mainly to control blood glucose and lower blood pressure and urine protein. However,the clinical effect is not satisfactory.CASE PRESENTATION: A female patient, aged 72 years, first visited our hospital endocrinology clinic,and was diagnosed with DKD. She suffered from fatigue, cold sensation in the lower extremities, convulsion of the lower limbs and frequent urination at night. She had a dark purple tongue with white and yellow fur and sublingual varices. Accessory examinations showed that her fasting blood glucose was 5.7 mmol/L, serum creatinine 159 μmol/L,blood urea nitrogen 13.6 μmol/L, blood uric acid493 μmol/L, and blood pressure 138/65 mm Hg.The patient received Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment of the modified Shenzhuo formula[Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici), Dahuang(Radix Et Rhizoma Rhei Palmati), Shuizhi(Hirudo) and Danshen(Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae)] for 7 years and achieved good results.CONCLUSION: This case provides a specific treatment plan and an effective reference for clinical application of Traditional Chinese Medicine for treating DKD. 4Rural E-commerce and County Economic Development in China显示文摘With the proliferation of information and communication technology in rural areas,rural e-commerce has gradually become a new economic phenomenon in China. Usingthe national rural e-commerce comprehensive demonstration policy as a quasi-naturalexperiment, this study examines the causal linkage between rural e-commerce andcounty-level economic development in China. Its findings, which draw on county-levelpanel data from 2011 to 2018, indicate that the policy had a positive effect on the countyleveleconomy in China, resulting in an overall increase in county GDP by 3.5 percent(0.7 percent annually). Our analysis further shows that the impact of the policy diferedalong the region and human capital dimensions. Further analysis reveals that industrialstructure and nonagricultural employment were the main channels for the policy toexert a county-level economic impact. Infrastructure improvement in China also playsan important role.
