1Emergence and prevalence of naturally occurring lower virulent African swine fever viruses in domestic pigs in China in 2020显示文摘African swine fever virus(ASFV)has been circulating in China for more than two years,and it is not clear whether the biological properties of the virus have changed.Here,we report on our surveillance of ASFVs in seven provinces of China,from June to December,2020.A total of 22 viruses were isolated and characterized as genotype II ASFVs,with mutations,deletions,insertions,or short-fragment replacement occurring in all isolates compared with Pig/HLJ/2018(HLJ/18),the earliest isolate in China.Eleven isolates had four different types of natural mutations or deletion in the EP402R gene and displayed a nonhemadsorbing(non-HAD)phenotype.Four isolates were tested for virulence in pigs;two were found to be as highly lethal as HLJ/18.However,two non-HAD isolates showed lower virulence but were highly transmissible;infection with 106 TCID50 dose was partially lethal and caused acute or sub-acute disease,whereas 103 TCID50 dose caused non-lethal,sub-acute or chronic disease,and persistent infection.The emergence of lower virulent natural mutants brings greater difficulty to the early diagnosis of ASF and creates new challenges for ASFV control.Encheng Sun Zhenjiang Zhang Zilong Wang Xijun He Xianfeng Zhang Lulu Wang Wenqing Wang Lianyu Huang Fei Xi Haoyue Huangfu Ghebremedhin Tsegay Hong Huo Jianhong Sun Zhijun Tian Wei Xia Xuewu Yu Fang Li Renqiang Liu Yuntao Guan Dongming Zhao Zhigao Bu 2021Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,5:46
2Effects of acupuncture in treating insomnia due to spleen-stomach disharmony syndrome and its influence on intestinal microbiome: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background: Insomnia is a common complaint that is closely related to gastrointestinal symptoms, which is consistent with the traditional Chinese medicine classical theory of ‘‘stomach disharmony leading to restless sleep.' Acupuncture is an effective complementary and alternative medicine therapy to improve gastrointestinal function and restore the normal sleep-wake cycle. However, studies on the effectiveness of acupuncture for insomnia due to spleen-stomach disharmony syndrome are limited to case reports and few randomized controlled trials; deeper research on its mechanism is still lacking. This randomized controlled trial aims to assess the treatment efficacy of ‘‘harmonizing stomach to tranquilize mind'acupuncture for insomnia and its influence on the intestinal microbiome.Methods/design: This is a randomized, single-blind, parallel-group study. Sixty eligible patients with insomnia due to spleen-stomach disharmony syndrome will be randomly divided into two groups(1:1 allocation ratio). The intervention group will use ‘‘harmonizing stomach to tranquilize mind'acupuncture, and the control group will receive sham acupuncture. Participants will receive 5 acupuncture treatment sessions per week for 4 consecutive weeks. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index will be used to evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture treatment by making assessments at baseline, the end of treatment and the end of the follow-up. 3On the designing principles and optimization approaches of bio-inspired self-organized network: a survey显示文摘A plethora of studies on self-organization has been carried out in broad areas including chemistry, biology, astronomy, medical science, telecommunications, etc., in both academia and industry. Following the studies on swarm intelligence observed in social species, the artificial self-organized systems are expected to exhibit some intelligent features (e.g., flexibility, robustness, decentralized control, self-evolution, etc.) that may have made social species so successful in the biosphere. In this paper, the application of swarm intelligence in communications networks will be studied, and we survey different aspects of bio-inspired mechanisms and examine various algorithms that have been proposed to improve the performance of artificial systems. Some fundamental self-organized networking (SON) mechanisms, designing principles and optimization approaches for artificial systems will then be investigated, followed by some well-known bio-inspired algorithms (e.g., cooperation, division of labor, distributed network synchronization, load balancing, etc.) as well as their applications to the maintenance/operation/optimization of artificial systems being analyzed. Besides, some new emerging technologies, such as the Self-X capabilities and cognitive machine-to-machine (M2M) optimization for the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE)/LTE-Advanced systems, are also surveyed. 4Music therapy is a potential intervention for cognition of Alzheimer’s Disease:a mini-review显示文摘Alzheimer’s Disease(AD)is a global health issue given the increasing prevalence rate and the limitations of drug effects.As a consequent,non-pharmacological interventions are of importance.Music therapy(MT)is a nonpharmacological way with a long history of use and a fine usability for dementia patients.In this review,we will summarize different techniques,diverse clinical trials,and the mechanisms of MT as it is helpful to the cognition in AD,providing reference for future research.Many articles have demonstrated that MT can reduce cognitive decline especially in autobiographical and episodic memories,psychomotor speed,executive function domains,and global cognition.MT is a promising intervention for strategy of dementia especially of AD and it must be started as early as possible.However,more evidences with prospective,randomized,blinded,uniform and rigorous methodological investigations are needed.And we should consider to combine MT with other cognitive stimulations such as dance,physical exercise,video game,art and so on.Rong Fang Shengxuan Ye Jiangtao Huangfu David P.Calimag 2017Translational Neurodegeneration2017,6,1:8
5Influence of Tropical Western Pacific Warm Pool Thermal State on the Interdecadal Change of the Onset of the South China Sea Summer Monsoon in the Late-1990s显示文摘An interdecadal shift in the onset date of the South China Sea summer monsoon(SCSSM) is identified during the late 1990 s by using the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Interim Reanalysis dataset. The mean onset date was brought forward by two pentads during 1999–2013 compared to that during 1979–1998. The large-scale atmospheric and oceanic change associated with this shift exhibits a significant interdecadal variation signal around 1998/1999, indicating that the shift during the late 1990 s is robust. Different from the well-known mid-1990 s shift, this shift carried more important systematical significance. Diagnostic analysis suggests that the earlier outbreak of the SCSSM was due to the interdecadal warming of the warm pool, which brought stronger convection anomalies and led to a weak western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH) during boreal spring(March–May). 7Research progress in anisotropic magnetoresistance显示文摘Anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) is an important physical phenomenon that has broad application potential in many relevant fields. Thus, AMR is one of the most attractive research directions in material science to date. In this article, we summarize the recent advances in AMR, including traditional permalloy AMR, tunnel AMR, ballistic AMR, Coulomb blockade AMR, anomalous AMR, and antiferromagnetic AMR. 9Dynamics of unstable continental subduction:Insights from numerical modeling显示文摘Numerical experiments are used in this study to systematically investigate the effects of convergence rate,crustal rheological strength,and lithospheric thermal structure on the dynamics of continental collision.The study focuses on the types,conditions and processes of unstable continental subduction.Modelling results suggest that the development of unstable continental subduction can be promoted by conditions that tend to decrease rheological strength of the lithosphere,such as low crustal rheological strength,'hot'thermal structure of the lithosphere,or low convergence rate.Unstable subduction mode can be further categorized into three types:(1)multi-stage slab breakoff,(2)continuously'flowing'of fluid-like slab into the upper mantle,and(3)large-scale detachment of the thickened orogenic root.These three types of unstable continental subduction are respectively associated with(1)a low convergence rate,(2)'hot'thermal structure of the lithosphere with a high convergence rate,and(3)moderate-high crustal rheological strength with a low convergence rate.It is also revealed that the evolution of crustal melting is dominated by the deformation pattern of continental collision,which is mainly controlled by crustal rheological strength.The modelling results have important implications for understanding of continental subduction mode selection under specific geodynamic conditions.HUANGFU PengPeng WANG YueJun FAN WeiMing LI ZhongHai ZHOU YongZhi 2017Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,2:3
10The heterogeneous influence of economic growth on environmental pollution: evidence from municipal data of China显示文摘This study aims to investigate the influence of rapid economic development on pollution at the municipal level in China.It constructs a Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population,Affluence and Technology model(STIRPAT model) and uses comprehensive municipal data on industrial pollution and economic performance.The dataset contains 290 cities from2003 to 2016 as a sample for the panel data analysis.The study further separates the cities into two groups by their levels of economic development for heterogeneity analysis.It reveals that a low level of economic development would aggravate environmental pollution,and when the economy reaches a high level,this economic development will improve environmental quality.We also find that the relationships between foreign direct investment and industrial dust and sulfur dioxide(SO_2) discharge are significant,while the relationship between economic growth and effluent emission is not.The more developed subsample cities present an inverted U-shaped curve between industrial pollutant emission,GDP per capita,and foreign direct investment,while the less developed subsamples show no such relationship.Since the shape of these curves differs among regions,their turning points vary accordingly.Based on this finding,this study suggests that the governments of more developed cities should balance environmental pollution and economic development by enhancing environmental regulations and adjusting industrial structure.Zhen Huangfu Hui Hu Nan Xie Yu-Qi Zhu Hao Chen Yang Wang 2020Petroleum Science2020,17,4:3
11Differences and Links between the East Asian and South Asian Summer Monsoon Systems:Characteristics and Variability显示文摘This paper analyzes the differences in the characteristics and spatio–temporal variabilities of summertime rainfall and water vapor transport between the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) and South Asian summer monsoon(SASM) systems. The results show obvious differences in summertime rainfall characteristics between these two monsoon systems. The summertime rainfall cloud systems of the EASM show a mixed stratiform and cumulus cloud system, while cumulus cloud dominates the SASM. These differences may be caused by differences in the vertical shear of zonal and meridional circulations and the convergence of water vapor transport fluxes. Moreover, the leading modes of the two systems' summertime rainfall anomalies also differ in terms of their spatiotemporal features on the interannual and interdecadal timescales. Nevertheless, several close links with respect to the spatiotemporal variabilities of summertime rainfall and water vapor transport exist between the two monsoon systems. The first modes of summertime rainfall in the SASM and EASM regions reveal a significant negative correlation on the interannual and the interdecadal timescales. This close relationship may be linked by a meridional teleconnection in the regressed summertime rainfall anomalies from India to North China through the southeastern part over the Tibetan Plateau, which we refer to as the South Asia/East Asia teleconnection pattern of Asian summer monsoon rainfall. 12Polarimetric whitening filter for POLSAR image based on subspace decomposition显示文摘Speckle filtering is an indispensable pre-processing step for applications of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (POLSAR),such as terrain classification,target detection,etc.As one of the most typical methods, the polarimetric whitening filter (PWF) can be used to produce a minimum-speckle image by combining the complex elements of the scattering matrix,but polarimetric information is lost after the filtering process.A polarimetric filter based on subspace decomposition which was proposed by Gu et al specializes in retrieving principle scattering characteristics,but the corresponding mean value of an image after filtering is not kept well.A new filter is proposed for improving the disadvantage based on subspace decomposition.Under the constraint that a weighted combination of the polarimetric SAR images equals to the output of the PWF,the Euclidean distance between an unfiltered parameter vector and a signal space vector is minimized so that noises can be reduced.It is also shown that the proposed method is equivalent to the subspace filter in the case of no constraint.Experimental results with the NASA/JPL airborne polarimetric SAR data demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.Yang Jian Deng Qiming Huangfu Yue Zhang Weijie 2008Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2008,19,6:2
13Combined Effects of Family History of Cardiovascular Disease and Serum C-reactive Protein Level on the Risk of Stroke: A 9.2-year Prospective Study among Mongolians in China显示文摘Objective We aimed to evaluate the combined effect of a family history of cardiovascular disease(CVD) and high serum C‐reactive protein(CRP) on the stroke incidence in an Inner Mongolian population in China. Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted from June 2002 to July 2012, with 2,544 participants aged 20 years and over from Inner Mongolia, China. We categorized participants into four groups based on the family history of CVD and CRP levels. Results We adjusted for age; sex; smoking; drinking; hypertension; body mass index; waist circumference; and blood glucose, triglycerides, low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol, and high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Compared with the group with no family history of CVD/low CRP levels, the group with family history of CVD/high CRP levels had a hazard ratio(HR) of 1.78 [95% confidence interval(CI), 1.03‐3.07; P = 0.039] of stroke, and an HR of 2.14(95% CI, 1.09‐4.20; P = 0.027) of ischemic stroke. The HRs of hemorrhagic stroke for the other three groups were not statistically significant(all P > 0.05). 17Experimental Study on Anti-adjuvant Arthritis in Rats of Kadsura coccinea显示文摘[Objectives] To investigate the therapeutic effect of Kadsura coccinea on adjuvant arthritis( AA) rats and its mechanism from cytokine levels. [Methods] The complete Freund's adjuvant( CFA)-induced AA model of rats was used. The therapeutic effect of K. coccinea on AA rats was evaluated by the articular swelling,arthritis score,immune organ index and hematoxylin-eosin( HE) staining. The content of inflammatory factors TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-1β in the serum of AA rats was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay( ELISA) respectively. [Results]Compared with the model group,the total extract of K. coccinea( KCTE) could significantly inhibit the primary and secondary articular swelling of AA rats,lower the arthritis score and immune organ index,and improve the pathological state of ankles of AA rats. In the groups with a high and middle dosage of KCTE( KCTE-H and KCTE-M),KCTE could significantly reduce the content of TNF-α and IL-6 in the serum of rats,exhibiting a certain dose-effect relationship. 18Superflexible and Lead-Free Piezoelectric Nanogenerator as a Highly Sensitive Self-Powered Sensor for Human Motion Monitoring显示文摘For traditional piezoelectric sensors based on poled ceramics,a low curie tem-perature(T_(c))is a fatal flaw due to the depolarization phenomenon.However,in this study,we find the low T_(c) would be a benefit for flex-ible piezoelectric sensors because small alterations of force trig-ger large changes in polarization.BaTi_(0.88)Sn_(0.12)O_(3)(BTS)with high piezoelectric coefficient and low T_(c) close to human body temperature is taken as an example for materials of this kind.Continuous piezo-electric BTS films were deposited on the flexible glass fiber fabrics(GFF),self-powered sensors based on the ultra-thin,superflexible,and polarization-free BTS-GFF/PVDF composite piezoelectric films are used for human motion sensing.In the low force region(1-9 N),the sensors have the outstanding performance with voltage sensitivity of 1.23 V N^(−1) and current sensitivity of 41.0 nA N^(−1).The BTS-GFF/PVDF sensors can be used to detect the tiny forces of falling water drops,finger joint motion,tiny surface deformation,and fatigue driving with high sensitivity.This work provides a new paradigm for the preparation of superflexible,highly sensitive and wearable self-powered piezoelectric sensors,and this kind of sensors will have a broad application prospect in the fields of medical rehabilitation,human motion monitoring,and intelligent robot.Di Yu Zhipeng Zheng Jiadong Liu Hongyuan Xiao Geng Huangfu Yiping Guo 2021Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,8:2
19Insights into wing dimorphism in worldwide agricultural pest and hostalternating aphid Aphis gossypii显示文摘Background:The worldwide pest Aphis gossypii has three-winged morphs in its life cycle,namely,winged parthenogenetic female(WPF),winged gynopara(GP),and winged male,which are all produced by a wingless parthenogenetic female(WLPF).Most studies on A.gossypii have focused on WPF,while few have investigated GP and male.The shared molecular mechanism underlying the wing differentiation in the three wing morphs of A.gossypii remains unknown.The wing differentiation of WPF was explored in a previous study.Herein,GP and male were induced indoors.The characters of the body,internal genitals,wing veins,and fecundity of GP and male were compared with those of WPF or WLPF.Compared with WLPF,the shared and separate differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were identified in these three-wing morphs.Results:Newly-born nymphs reared in short photoperiod condition(8 L:16D,18°C)exclusively produced gynoparae(GPe)and males in adulthood successively,in which the sex ratio was GP biased.A total of 14 GPe and 9 males were produced by one mother aphid.Compared with WLPF,the three-wing morphs exhibited similar morphology and wing vein patterns but were obviously discriminated in the length of fore-and underwings,reproductive system,and fecundity.A total of 37090 annotated unigenes were obtained from libraries constructed using the four morphs via RNA sequencing(RNA-Seq).In addition,10867 and 19334 DEGs were identified in the pairwise comparison of GP versus WLPF and male versus WLPF,respectively.Compared with WLPF,the winged morphs demonstrated 2335 shared DEGs(1658 upregulated and 677 downregulated).The 1658 shared upregulated DEGs were enriched in multiple signaling pathways,including insulin,FoxO,MAPK,starch and sucrose metabolism,fatty acid biosynthesis,and degradation,suggesting their key roles in the regulation of wing plasticity in the cotton aphid.Forty-four genes that spanned the range of differential expression were chosen to validate statistical analysis based on RNA-Seq through the reverse transcription quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR).The comparison concurred with the expression pattern(either up-or downregulated)and supported the accuracy and reliability of RNA-Seq.Finally,the potential roles of DEGs related to the insulin signaling pathway in wing dimorphism were discussed in the cotton aphid.Conclusions:The present study established an efficiently standardized protocol for GP and male induction in cotton aphid by transferring newly-born nymphs to short photoperiod conditions(8 L:16D,18°C).The external morphological characters,especially wing vein patterns,were similar among WPFs,GPe,and males.However,their reproductive organs were strikingly different.Compared with WLPF,shared(2335)and exclusively(1470 in WLPF,2419 in GP,10774 male)expressed genes were identified in the three-wing morphs through RNA-Seq,and several signaling pathways that are potentially involved in their wing differentiation were obtained,including insulin signaling,starch and sucrose metabolism.JI Jichao HUANGFU Ningbo LUO Junyu GAO Xueke NIU Lin ZHANG Shuai CUI Jinjie 2021Journal of Cotton Research2021,4,1:2
20Multi-scale climate variations and mechanisms of the onset and withdrawal of the South China Sea summer monsoon显示文摘The onset of the South China Sea summer monsoon(SCSSM) heralds the establishment of the large-scale East Asian summer monsoon and the western North Pacific summer monsoon, as well as the beginning of the major rainy season. The occurrence of an early or late SCSSM onset is an important indicator for the summertime climate anomalies over East and Southeast Asia. Therefore, the onset of the SCSSM has received extensive research attention, and has been one of the key foci of monsoon research in recent decades. This paper reviews the multi-scale climate variations(from interdecadal to synoptic scales)and mechanisms of the SCSSM onset, with special attention paid to the progress in the past five years. On the interdecadal timescale, the SCSSM onset underwent a significant advancement in the mid-to-late 1990s, which may have been related to the background condition of the Pacific Ocean. On the interannual timescale, El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation(ENSO) is considered to be the most critical factor controlling the variability of the SCSSM onset. However, the linkage between ENSO and the SCSSM onset has become much weaker and insignificant in recent years. The intraseasonal oscillations(including the 30–60-day oscillation and quasi-biweekly oscillation) are important modulators of the SCSSM onset. The transition from an inactive phase to an active phase may be more worthy of attention than the phase itself. There appear to be close interactions between the SCSSM onset and synoptic-scale systems like tropical cyclones(TCs). TCs are important triggers for the SCSSM onset, while in return the SCSSM onset provides a favorable background condition for the formation and development of TCs. In addition, this paper also reviews a series of recent works on the withdrawal of the SCSSM.
