| 1 | Colonoscopy evaluation after short-term anti-tuberculosis treatment in nonspecific ulcers on the ileocecal area显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the eff icacy of colonoscopy follow-up after short-term anti-tuberculosis treatment in patients with nonspecific ulcers on ileocecal areas being suspicious of tuberculous colitis. METHODS: We prospectively analyzed the colonoscopic fi ndings before and after short term anti- tuberculosis treatment in 18 patients with nonspecifi c ulcers on the ileocecal area and compared them with 7 patients of confi rmed tuberculous colitis by acid-fast bacilli or caseating granuloma on colonic biopsy. RESULTS: Mean duration for short-term follow- up was 107.3 d with combined chemotherapy containing isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol and pyrazinamide. Seven patients with tuberculous colitis showed complete healing of active ulcers after short- term medication. After short-term anti-tuberculosis treatment, follow-up colonoscopy findings devided 18 patients with nonspecific ulcers into two groups by ulcer state. One is the 'suspicious tuberculous colitis group' showing healing of ulcers and erosions and another is the 'suspicious inflammatory bowel disease group' showing active ulcers with or without aggravation of the lesion. Finally, all 9 of the 'suspicious tuberculous colitis group' were diagnosed as tuberculous colitis showing no recurrence of ulcers after termination of 9 mo of anti-tuberculosis medication. Patients of the 'suspicious inflammatorybowel disease group' were f inally diagnosed as Crohn's disease or nonspecifi c colonic ulcers during long-term follow up. CONCLUSION: Follow-up colonoscopy shows a healing stage ulcer or scarring change without an active ulcer with just 2 mo to 3 mo of medication in patients with tuberculous colitis. | 2 | Cancer stem cell markers CD133 and CD24 correlate with invasiveness and differentiation in colorectal adenocarcinoma显示文摘AIM:To verify that CD markers are available for detecting cancer stem cell populations and to evaluate their clinical significance in colon cancer.METHODS:Immunohistochemistry for CD133,CD24 and CD44 was performed on the tissue microarray of 523 colorectal adenocarcinomas.Medical records were reviewed and clinicopathological analysis was performed.RESULTS:In colorectal adenocarcinoma,128 of 523 cases(24.5%) were positive and 395 cases(75.5%) were negative for CD133 expression.Two hundred and sixty-four of 523 cases(50.5%) were positive and 259 cases(49.5%) were negative for CD24 expression.Five hundred and two of 523 cases(96%) were negative and 21 cases(4%) were positive for CD44 expression.Upon clinicopathological analysis,CD133 expression was present more in male patients(P = 0.002) and in advanced T stage cancer(P = 0.024).Correlation between CD24 expression and clinicopathological factors was seen in the degree of differentiation(P = 0.006).Correlation between CD44 expression and clinicopathological factors was seen in the tumor size(P = 0.001).Survival was not significantly related to CD133,CD24 and CD44 expression.CONCLUSION:CD markers were related to invasiveness and differentiation of colorectal adenocarcinoma.However,CD expression was not closely related to survival. | Dongho Choi Hyo Won Lee Kyung Yul Hur Jae Joon Kim Gyeong-Sin Park Si-Hyong Jang Young Soo Song Ki-Seok Jang Seung Sam Paik | 2009 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,18: | 14 |
| 3 | Effect of the semen extract of Cuscuta chinensis on inflammatory responses in LPS-stimulated BV-2 microglia显示文摘AIM: To investigate the anti-inflammatory activities of the semen extract of Cuscuta chinensis Lam.(Cuscutae Semen; CS) on the production of inflammatory mediators, nitric oxide(NO), prostaglandin 2(PGE2), and proinflammatory cytokines in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated BV-2 microglia. METHOD: BV-2 cells were treated with CS extract for 30 min, and then stimulated with LPS or without for 24 h. The levels of NO, PGE2 and proinflammatory cytokines were measured by Griess assay and ELISA. The expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS), and cyclooxygenase(COX)-2 mRNA and protein was determined by RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. The phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2(ERK1/2), Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK), and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK), and the nuclear expression of nuclear factor(NF)-κB p65 were investigated by Western blot analysis. RESULTS: CS extract significantly decreased the production of NO and PGE2 by suppressing the expression of iNOS and COX-2 in activated microglia. CS extract decreased the production of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 by down-regulating their transcription levels. In addition, CS extract suppressed the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK, and p38 MAPK, and the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 in activated microglia. | 6 | Glucose metabolism and neurogenesis in the gerbil hippocampus after transient forebrain ischemia显示文摘Recent evidence exists that glucose transporter 3(GLUT3) plays an important role in the energy metabolism in the brain.Most previous studies have been conducted using focal or hypoxic ischemia models and have focused on changes in GLUT3 expression based on protein and m RNA levels rather than tissue levels.In the present study,we observed change in GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the adult gerbil hippocampus at various time points after 5 minutes of transient forebrain ischemia.In the sham-operated group,GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the hippocampal CA1 region was weak,in the pyramidal cells of the CA1 region increased in a time-dependent fashion 24 hours after ischemia,and in the hippocampal CA1 region decreased significantly between 2 and 5 days after ischemia,with high level of GLUT3 immunoreactivity observed in the CA1 region 10 days after ischemia.In a double immunofluorescence study using GLUT3 and glial-fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP),we observed strong GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the astrocytes.GLUT3 immunoreactivity increased after ischemia and peaked 7 days in the dentate gyrus after ischemia/reperfusion.In a double immunofluorescence study using GLUT3 and doublecortin(DCX),we observed low level of GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the differentiated neuroblasts of the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus after ischemia.GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the sham-operated group was mainly detected in the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus.These results suggest that the increase in GLUT3 immunoreactivity may be a compensatory mechanism to modulate glucose level in the hippocampal CA1 region and to promote adult neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus. | Dae Young Yoo Kwon Young Lee Joon Ha Park Hyo Young Jung Jong Whi Kim Yeo Sung Yoon Moo-Ho Won Jung Hoon Choi In Koo Hwang | 2016 | Neural Regeneration Research2016,11,8: | 4 |

However, distant skeletal muscle metastasis of cholangiocarcinoma has never been described before to the best of our knowledge and, furthermore, Budd-Chiari syndrome secondary to intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is also extremely rare. Here we present the first case overall of distant muscle metastasis from intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma presenting as Budd-Chiari syndrome. A 44-year-old man admitted to the hospital with complaints of abdominal distension, edema of both legs, back pain and anorexia of 30 d' duration. | 10 | Myelophil, a mixture of Astragali Radix and Salviae Radix extract, moderates toxic side effects of fluorouracil in mice显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of Myelophil, an extract containing Astragali Radix and Salviae Radix, for reducing complications induced by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in a gastrointestinal cancer model. METHODS: We injected 5-FU into mice and then administered Myelophil to examine the ability of the drug to treat the side effects of 5-FU in mice. Peripheral blood counts, histological examinations, and colony-forming assays of bone marrow were conducted, followed by swimming tests and assessment of survival times. RESULTS: Myelophil restored red and white blood cells and platelets in blood, and recovered cell density in bone marrow to levels comparable to those observed within the control group. In addition, Myelophil significantly increased colony-forming unit granulocyte-macrophage (CFU-GM) and CFU-erythroid (CFU-E) compared to the control group. We confirmed that interleukin-3 gene expression was upregulated by Myelophil in spleen cells. Myelophil administration also doubled the survival rate of mice that were severely myelosuppressed as a result of 5-FU injection at a lethal dose of 70%. Finally, the swimming performance of mice significantly improved as a result of Myelophil treatment. | 11 | Phase Ⅱ study of R-CVP followed by rituximab maintenance therapy for patients with advanced marginal zone lymphoma:consortium for improving survival of lymphoma(CISL)study显示文摘Background:The response rate and survival improvement for rituximab,a CD20-targeting monoclonal antibody,have been demonstrated in marginal zone lymphoma(MZL)as monotherapy and in combination with chemotherapeutic regimens,yet relapses still occur despite treatment completion.Thus,extending the period of remission in MZL patients remains an essential goal.This multicenter,single-arm,open-label phase II study evaluated the survival efficacy of 2 years of rituximab-maintenance therapy in patients with stage III-IV CD20-positive MZL who had responded to first-line R-CVP(rituximab,cyclophosphamide,vincristine,and prednisolone).The objective of this study was to determine whether rituximab maintenance following R-CVP warrants further investigation.Methods:Prior to rituximab-maintenance therapy,patients received 6-8 cycles of first-line R-CVP therapy for stage III-IV MZL.Rituximab(375 mg/m^(2)),cyclophosphamide(750 mg/m^(2)),and vincristine(1.4 mg/m^(2);maximum 2 mg)were administered via an intravenous infusion on day 1 of each 3-week cycle,while oral prednisolone(100 mg)was given on days 1-5 of each 3-week cycle.The patients who achieved complete response(CR),partial response(PR),or stable disease(SD)to R-CVP treatment,were prescribed rituximab-maintenance therapy which was administered intravenously at a dose of 375 mg/m^(2) every 8 weeks for up to 12 cycles.The primary endpoint was progression-free survival(PFS).Secondary endpoints were overall survival(OS)and treatment safety.Results:47 patients were enrolled,of whom,45(96%)received rituximab-maintenance treatment.Fifteen(33%)patients had nodal MZL.Following R-CVP first-line therapy,20(44%),22(49%),and 3(7%)patients achieved CR,PR,and SD,respectively.After a median follow-up of 38.2 months,their observed 3-year PFS rate was 81%.During the rituximab-maintenance,6 PR and 1 SD patients achieved CR following the administration of R-CVP.Elevated LDH and the presence of B symptoms were found to be significant prognostic factors for PFS(P=0.003)and demonstrated a 3-year OS rate of 90%.Rituximab-maintenance therapy was well tolerated,and the common treatment-emergent adverse events were sensory neuropathy(18%),myalgia(13%),fatigue(9%),and neutropenia(9%).Conclusion: Rituximab-maintenance therapy following first-line R-CVP demonstrated good PFS in patients with stage III-IV MZL, in addition to a favorable toxicity profile. | Sung Yong Oh Won Seog Kim Jin Seok Kim Seok Jin Kim Dok Hyun Yoon Deok-Hwan Yang Won Sik Lee Hyo Jung Kim Ho-Young Yhim Seong Hyun Jeong Jong Ho Won Suee Lee Jee Hyun Kong Sung-Nam Lim Jun Ho Ji Kyung A.Kwon Gyeong-Won Lee Jae Hoon Lee Ho Sup Lee Ho-Jin Shin Cheolwon Suh | 2019 | Cancer Communications2019,39,1: | 2 |
