1Climate change impact and adaptation on wheat yield, water use and water use efficiency at North Nile Delta显示文摘Investigation of climate change impacts on food security has become a global hot spot.Even so,efforts to mitigate these issues in arid regions have been insufficient.Thus,in this paper,further research is discussed based on data obtained from various crop and climate models.Two DSSATcrop models(CMs)(CERESWheat and N-Wheat)were calibrated with two wheat cultivars(Gemiza9 and Misr1).A baseline simulation(1981-2010)was compared with different scenarios of simulations using three Global Climate Models(GCMs)for the 2030s,2050s and 2080s.Probable impacts of climate change were assessed using the GCMs and CMs under the high emission Representative Concentration Pathway(RCP8.5).Results predicted decreased wheat grain yields by a mean of 8.7%,11.4%and 13.2%in the 2030s,2050s and 2080s,respectively,relative to the baseline yield.Negative impacts of climatic change are probable,despite some uncertainties within the GCMs(i.e.,2.1%,5.0%and 8.0%)and CMs(i.e.,2.2%,6.0%and 9.2%).Changing the planting date with a scenario of plus or minus 5 or 10 days from the common practice was assessed as a potentially effective adaptation option,which may partially offset the negative impacts of climate change.Delaying the sowing date by 10 days(from 20 November to 30 November)proved the optimum scenario and decreased further reduction in wheat yields resulting from climate change to 5.2%,6.8%and 8.5%in the 2030s,2050s and 2080s,respectively,compared with the 20 November scenario.The planting 5-days earlier scenario showed a decreased impact on climate change adaptation.However,the 10-days early planting scenario increased yield reduction under projected climate change.The cultivar Misr1 was more resistant to rising temperature than Gemiza9.Despite the negative impacts of projected climate change on wheat production,water use efficiency would slightly increase.The ensemble of multi-model estimated impacts and adaptation uncertainties of climate change can assist decision-makers in planning climate adaptation strategies.Marwa Gamal Mohamed Ali Mahmoud Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed El Baroudy Michael Fullen El-Said Hamad Omar Zheli Ding Ahmed Mohammed Saad Kheir 2020Frontiers of Earth Science2020,14,3:2

6Liver transplantation in Wilson's disease: Single center experience from Saudi Arabia显示文摘AIM: To determine liver transplantation outcomes in Wilson's disease (WD) patients, focusing on neurological manifestations. METHODS: This retrospective study assessed data from 16 WD patients (nine males, 56%) who had liver transplants between 1991 and 2007. Survival, graft function, and neurological complications were assessed during a follow-up period of up to 15 years. In addition, each patient's medical record was reviewed in detail to find the type of Wilson's disease (hepatic or hepatic plus neurological WD), indication for liver transplantation, use of chelating agents prior to transplantation, immediate and long term complications following transplantation, the donor details, and the pathology of explanted liver. RESULTS: End-stage liver disease was the indication for transplantation in all 16 WD patients. Four patients displayed WD-related neurological symptoms in addition to liver disease. Living-related liver transplantation was done in three cases. One patient died on postoperative day 6 due to primary graft non-function. Oneyear post liver transplant survival was 94%. Neurological manifestations of all four patients disappeared during their follow-up. Four patients developed acute cellular rejection, but all responded to treatment. One patient developed chronic ductopenic rejection after 15 years post-transplantation and their graft failed; this patient is currently waiting for re-transplantation. Fourteen patients (88%) are still living. The long-term average survival is currently 10.5 years, with a current median survival of 8 years. Long-term graft survival is currently 81%. 10Fatty acid desaturation by stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 controls regulatory T cell differentiation and autoimmunity显示文摘The imbalance between pathogenic and protective T cell subsets is a cardinal feature of autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis(MS).Emerging evidence indicates that endogenous and dietary-induced changes in fatty acid metabolism have a major impact on both T cell fate and autoimmunity.To date,however,the molecular mechanisms that underlie the impact of fatty acid metabolism on T cell physiology and autoimmunity remain poorly understood.Here,we report that stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1(SCD1),an enzyme essential for the desaturation of fatty acids and highly regulated by dietary factors,acts as an endogenous brake on regulatory T-cell(Treg)differentiation and augments autoimmunity in an animal model of MS in a T cell-dependent manner.Guided by RNA sequencing and lipidomics analysis,we found that the absence of Scd1 in T cells promotes the hydrolysis of triglycerides and phosphatidylcholine through adipose triglyceride lipase(ATGL).ATGL-dependent release of docosahexaenoic acid enhanced Treg differentiation by activating the nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma.Our findings identify fatty acid desaturation by SCD1 as an essential determinant of Treg differentiation and autoimmunity,with potentially broad implications for the development of novel therapeutic strategies and dietary interventions for autoimmune disorders such as MS.Elien Grajchen Melanie Loix Paulien Baeten Beatriz F.Côrte-Real Ibrahim Hamad Sam Vanherle Mansour Haidar Jonas Dehairs Jelle Y.Broos James M.Ntambi Robert Zimmermann Rolf Breinbauer Piet Stinissen Niels Hellings Sanne G.S.Verberk Gijs Kooij Martin Giera Johannes V.Swinnen Bieke Broux Markus Kleinewietfeld Jerome J.A.Hendriks Jeroen F.J.Bogie 2023Cellular & Molecular Immunology2023,20,6:0
