| 1 | Brain-derived neurotrophic factor mediates macrophage migration inhibitory factor to protect neurons against oxygen-glucose deprivation显示文摘Macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF)is a chemokine that plays an essential role in immune system function.Previous studies suggested that MIF protects neurons in ischemic conditions.However,few studies are reported on the role of MIF in neurological recovery after ischemic stroke.The purpose of this study is to identify the molecular mechanism of neuroprotection mediated by MIF.Human neuroblastoma cells were incubated in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium under oxygen-glucose deprivation(OGD)for 4 hours and then returned to normal aerobic environment for reperfusion(OGD/R).30 ng/mL MIF recombinant(30 ng/mL)or ISO-1(MIF antagonist;50μM)was administered to human neuroblastoma cells.Then cell cultures were assigned to one of four groups:control,OGD/R,OGD/R with MIF,OGD/R with ISO-1.Cell viability was analyzed using WST-1 assay.Expression levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),microtubule-associated protein 2(MAP2),Caspase-3,Bcl2,and Bax were detected by western blot assay and immunocytochemistry in each group to measure apoptotic activity.WST-1 assay results revealed that compared to the OGD/R group,cell survival rate was significantly higher in the OGD/R with MIF group and lower in the OGD/R with ISO-1 group.Western blot assay and immunocytochemistry results revealed that expression levels of BDNF,Bcl2,and MAP2 were significantly higher,and expression levels of Caspase-3 and Bax were significantly lower in the MIF group than in the OGD/R group.Expression levels of BDNF,Bcl2,and MAP2 were significantly lower,and expression levels of Caspase-3 and Bax were significantly higher in the ISO-1 group than in the OGD/R group.MIF administration promoted neuronal cell survival and induced high expression levels of BDNF,MAP2,and Bcl2(anti-apoptosis)and low expression levels of Caspase-3 and Bax(pro-apoptosis)in an OGD/R model.These results suggest that MIF administration is effective for inducing expression of BDNF and leads to neuroprotection of neuronal cells against hypoxic injury. | Su Hwan Bae Mi Ran Yoo Ye Yeong Kim In Kyung Hong Mi Hee Kim Seung Hak Lee Dae Yul Kim | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,8: | 11 |

| 4 | Change in renal function after sodium phosphate preparation for screening colonoscopy显示文摘AIM:To investigate the changes in renal function at 12-24 mo in patients following sodium phosphate(NaP) preparation for screening colonoscopy.METHODS:We carried out a retrospective study on the results from patients who received health check-up services as part of an employer-provided wellness program performed between August 2006 and May 2008 and who were followed up for 12-24 mo.Prior to screening colonoscopy,224 patients underwent bowel cleansing with NaP(NaP group) and 113 patients with polyethylene glycol(PEG group).The control group comprised 672 age-matched patients.We compared the changes in the creatinine levels and the glomerular filtration rates(GFRs) from baseline to 12-24 mo between the NaP,PEG,and control groups using two-way repeated measured analysis of variance.In addition,multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to assess the risk factors for a decreased GFR.RESULTS:The baseline mean serum creatinine level in the NaP,PEG,and control groups was 1.12 ± 0.15,1.12 ± 0.16,and 1.12 ± 0.15 mg/dL,which increased to 1.15 ± 0.15,1.15 ± 0.18,and 1.15 ± 0.15 mg/dL,respectively,after 12-24 mo.The baseline mean GFR in the NaP,PEG,and control groups was 69.0 ± 7.7,68.9 ± 8.0,and 69.6 ± 6.7 mL/min per 1.73 m2,which decreased to 66.5 ± 7.8,66.5 ± 8.3,and 67.4 ± 6.4 mL/min per 1.73 m2,respectively,after 12-24 mo.The changes in serum creatinine levels and GFRs were not significantly between the NaP,PEG,and control groups(P = 0.992 and P = 0.233,respectively).Using multivariate linear regression analysis,only the baseline GFR was associated with the change in GFR(P < 0.001).Indeed,the bowel preparations were not associated with the change in GFR(P = 0.297).CONCLUSION:NaP bowel preparation in subjects with normal renal function was not associated with renal injury,and NaP can thus be used safely for screening colonoscopy. | Dong Choon Seol Sung Noh Hong Jeong Hwan Kim In Kyung Sung Hyung Seok Park Jung Hyun Lee Chan Sup Shim | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,16: | 2 |

| 7 | Volumetric fluid analysis of fixed monthly anti-VEGF treatment in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration显示文摘·AIM:To evaluate visual outcomes and changes in fluid after administering monthly anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)injections to treat neovascular agerelated macular degeneration(n AMD)with subretinal fluid(SRF)and pigment epithelial detachment(PED).·METHODS:This prospective study included eyes with n AMD previously treated with as-needed anti-VEGF injections.The patients were treated with six monthly intravitreal injections of ranibizumab.Quantitative volumetric segmentation analyses of the SRF and PED were performed.The main outcome measures included best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),and SRF and PED volumes.·RESULTS:Twenty eyes of 20 patients were included in this study.At the 6-month follow-up,BCVA and PED volume did not change significantly(P=0.110 and 0.999,respectively)but the mean SRF volume decreased from 0.53±0.82 mm3 at baseline to 0.08±0.23 mm3(P=0.002).The absorption rate of the SRF volume was negatively correlated with the duration of previous antiVEGF treatment(P=0.029).Seven of the 20 eyes(35%)showed a fluid-free macula and significant improvement in BCVA(P=0.036)by month 6.·CONCLUSION:Quantifying the SRF can precisely determine the patient’s responsiveness to anti-VEGF treatment of n AMD. | Bo Hee Kim In Boem Chang Hyeong Gon Yu In Hwan Hong | 2023 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2023,16,6: | 1 |
| 8 | Neuroprotective effects of ischemic preconditioning on hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons through maintaining calbindin D28k immunoreactivity following subsequent transient cerebral ischemia显示文摘Ischemic preconditioning elicited by a non-fatal brief occlusion of blood flow has been applied for an experimental therapeutic strategy against a subsequent fatal ischemic insult. In this study, we investigated the neuroprotective effects of ischemic preconditioning(2-minute transient cerebral ischemia) on calbindin D28k immunoreactivity in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 area following a subsequent fatal transient ischemic insult(5-minute transient cerebral ischemia). A large number of pyramidal neurons in the hippocampal CA1 area died 4 days after 5-minute transient cerebral ischemia. Ischemic preconditioning reduced the death of pyramidal neurons in the hippocampal CA1 area. Calbindin D28k immunoreactivity was greatly attenuated at 2 days after 5-minute transient cerebral ischemia and it was hardly detected at 5 days post-ischemia. Ischemic preconditioning maintained calbindin D28 k immunoreactivity after transient cerebral ischemia. | 19 | Robotic cholecystectomy with new port sites显示文摘AIM:To introduce robotic cholecystectomy(RC) using new port sites on the low abdominal area.METHODS:From June 2010 to June 2011,a total of 178 RCs were performed at Ajou University Medical Center.We prospectively collected the set-up time(working time and docking time) and console time in all robotic procedures.RESULTS:Eighty-three patients were male and 95 female;the age ranged from 18 to 72 years of age(mean 54.6 ± 15.0 years).All robotic procedures were successfully completed.The mean operation time was 52.4 ± 17.1 min.The set-up time and console time were 11.9 ± 5.4 min(5-43 min) and 15.1 ± 8.0 min(4-50 min),respectively.The conversion rate to laparoscopic or open procedures was zero.The complication rate was 0.6%(n = 1,bleeding).There was no bile duct injury or mortality.The mean hospital stay was 1.4 ± 1.1 d.There was a significant correlation between the console time and white blood cell count(r = 0.033,P = 0.015).In addition,the higher the white blood cell count(more than 10000),the longer the console time.CONCLUSION:Robotic cholecystectomy using new port sites on the low abdominal area can be safely and efficiently performed,with sufficient patient satisfaction. | Ji Hun Kim Nam Hyun Baek Guangyl Li Seung Hui Choi In Ho Jeong Jae Chul Hwang Jin Hong Kim Byung Moo Yoo Wook Hwan Kim | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,20: | 0 |
