1Effect of Storage Temperature on Vitamin C, Total Phenolics,UPLC Phenolic Acid Profile and Antioxidant Capacity of Eleven Potato(Solanum tuberosum) Varieties显示文摘Storage of potato tubers at low temperature affects their metabolism and may alter their phytochemical properties. There is a need to elucidate the changes in antioxidant compounds, activity and enzymes during storage of tubers. Eleven Indian potato varieties were evaluated for antioxidant parameters, after 0, 30, 60 and 90 days of storage at room temperature, 15 °C and 4 °C. Total phenolics(0.0786–0.1546 mg gallic acid equivalents·g^(-1)FW) and vitamin C content(0.0828–0.2416 mg·g^(-1)FW) varied among the varieties and were different with storage temperature; their levels fluctuated during storage but remained above the initial level until the last day of observation. Phenolic acid profiling by UPLC identified 12 compounds among which the most abundant was chlorogenic acid followed by gallic acid, sinapic acid and ellagic acid. Except para-coumaric acid which decreased at 4 °C, all the phenolic acids increased with storage. Caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, protocatechuic acid and gallic acid mostly correlated with total phenolic content(r = 0.456, 0.482, 0.588 and 0.620, respectively). Antioxidant activity against both DPPH and ABTS radicals increased during the initial days of storage and then dropped to a level comparable or lower than the original value,irrespective of the storage temperature. Correlation study revealed that chlorogenic acid, gallic acid and ferulic acid mostly contributed to antioxidant activity. Activity of both antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase, increased initially but then decreased to values lower than the initial level and were not influenced by storage temperature. Correlation with antioxidant activity indicated that the enhancement of reactive oxygen scavenging species in cold stored tubers could result mainly from ascorbate peroxidase activity. 11Programmed death 1 (PD-1) and ligand (PD-L1) inhibitors in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: A meta-analysis显示文摘Background: PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors have emerged as promising treatments for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).Methods: Systematic review and meta-analysis of PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors in HNSCC. Outcomes: median overall survival (mOS), median progression-free survival (mPFS), Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) and treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs).Results: Eleven trials reported data on 1088 patients (mean age: 59.9 years, range: 18-90). The total mOS was 7.97 months (range: 6.0-16.5). Mean mPFS for all studies was 2.84 months (range: 1.9-6.5). PD-1 inhibitors had a lower rate of RECIST Progressive Disease than PD-L1 inhibitors (42.61%, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 36.29-49.06 vs. 56.79%, 95% CI: 49.18-64.19,P < 0.001). The rate of TRAEs of any grade (62.7%, 95% CI: 59.8-65.6) did not differ.Conclusions: Meta-analysis shows the efficacy of PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors in HNSCC and suggests a possible difference in certain RECIST criterion between PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors. 12Vented Individual Patient(VIP)Hoods for the Control of Infectious Airborne Diseases in Healthcare Facilities显示文摘By providing a means of separating the airborne emissions of patients from the air breathed by healthcare workers(HCWs),vented individual patient(VIP)hoods,a form of local exhaust ventilation(LEV),offer a new approach to reduce hospital-acquired infection(HAI).Results from recent studies have demonstrated that,for typical patient-emitted aerosols,VIP hoods provide protection at least equivalent to that of an N95 mask.Unlike a mask,hood performance can be easily monitored and HCWs can be alerted to failure by alarms.The appropriate use of these relatively simple devices could both reduce the reliance on personal protective equipment(PPE)for infection control and provide a low-cost and energy-efficient form of protection for hospitals and clinics.Although the development and deployment of VIP hoods has been accelerated by the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,these devices are currently an immature technology.In this review,we describe the state of the art of VIP hoods and identify aspects in need of further development,both in terms of device design and the protocols associated with their use.The broader concept of individual patient hoods has the potential to be expanded beyond ventilation to the provision of clean conditions for individual patients and personalized control over other environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.J.Patel F.McGain T.Bhatelia S.Wang B.Sun J.Monty V.Pareek 2022Engineering2022,8,8:0

18Higher Child-Reported Internalizing and Parent-Reported Externalizing Behaviors were Associated with Decreased Quality of Life among Pediatric Cardiac Patients Independent of Diagnosis:A Cross-Sectional Mixed-Methods Assessment显示文摘Background:Pediatric cardiology patients often experience decreased quality of life(QoL)and higher rates of mental illness,particularly with severe disease,but the relationship between them and comparisons across diagnostic groups are limited.This mixed-methods cross-sectional study assessed the association between QoL anxiety and behavior problems among children with structural heart disease,arrhythmia,or other cardiac diagnoses.Methods:Children(6–14 years,n=76,50%female)and their parents completed measures of QoL(PedsQL),behavior(BASC-2,subset of 19 children)and anxiety(MASC-2,children 8+years).Pearson correlations/regression models examined associations between QoL,behavior and anxiety,controlling for age,sex,diagnosis and condition severity.Student t-tests compared results to published normative values.Semi-structured interviews(15 children,13 parents)examined self-and parent-reported perceptions of the patient’s emotional health.Results:Child reported social QoL(95%CI difference:−11.0,−2.1),emotional well-being(95%CI difference:−12.5,−3.8)and adjustment skills(95%CI difference:−13.9,−3.0)were significantly below published norms(p<0.05).Neither age,sex,nor diagnosis were significantly related to questionnaire responses.Compared to children with mild conditions,child and parent-reported QoL was significantly lower in children with complex conditions(np2≥0.14,p<0.05).Lower QoL was strongly associated with more internalizing problems based on both child(r=−0.78,p<0.001)and parent(r=−0.67,p<0.001)reports.Interview responses suggested emotional distress was attributed to“normal”child problems rather than the child’s cardiac problem.Conclusion:Children with complex cardiac conditions,regardless of diagnosis,had diminished QoL.Using the PedsQL in clinical settings may help identify pediatric cardiology patients experiencing emotional distress(i.e.,anxiety and depression).Jacqueline S.Lee Angelica Blais Julia Jackson Bhavika J.Patel Lillian Lai Gary Goldfield Renee Sananes Patricia E.Longmuir 2021Congenital Heart Disease2021,16,3:0

20Cochlear implantation in patients with Meniere’s disease:A systematic review显示文摘Background:Meniere’s disease(MD)is an idiopathic disorder of the inner ear,which manifests as cochleo-vestibular dysfunction.Hearing loss will progress to a profound levelin a subset of patients with MD,and vestibular interventions can independently cause loss of hearing.The aim of this study was to systematically review the published literature describing the safety and efficacy of CI in patients with MD.Materials and methods:A systematic literature review was conducted in accordance PRISMA guidelines to identify articles that assessed at least one functional outcome in patients with MD who underwent CI.Demographic information,disease history,MD symptoms,outcomes measures,and complications related to CI were extracted from included studies.Results:In total,17 studies were included,and 182 patients with MD underwent CI.The weighted-mean age was 61.9 years(range 27-85).Study objective and methodology varied,and there was significant heterogeneity in CI outcome measures reported.In total,179(98.3%)of 182 patients reported objective improvements in at least one hearing metric after CI.A total of 69 patients(37.9%)reported vertigo or severe dizziness prior to CI,compared to 22 patients(15.4%)postoperatively.Two studies reported significant reductions in postoperative Tinnitus Handicap Inventory score(THI).Quality of life assessments varied between studies.Complications rates were low with only nine patients(4.9%)reporting a serious CI-related complication.Conclusions:This systematic review evaluated 17 studies describing the safety and efficacy of CI in patients with MD and encountered many challenges due to small sample sizes,and heterogeneity in study design and outcomes measured.Despite these limitations,this study of 182 patients is to the best of our knowledge the largest systematic review evaluating the safety and efficacy of CI in MD.The results of this study support the need for a standardized approach to evaluating outcomes of CI in patients with MD in future studies.Vincent M.Desiato Jaimin J.Patel Shaun A.Nguyen Ted A.Meyer Paul R.Lambert 2021World Journal of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery2021,7,4:0
