| 3 | Changes in Mean and Extreme Temperature and Precipitation over the Arid Region of Northwestern China: Observation and Projection显示文摘This paper reports a comprehensive study on the observed and projected spatiotemporal changes in mean and extreme climate over the arid region of northwestern China, based on gridded observation data and CMIP5 simulations under the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios. The observational results reveal an increase in annual mean temperature since 1961, largely attributable to the increase in minimum temperature. The annual mean precipitation also exhibits a significant increasing tendency. The precipitation amount in the most recent decade was greater than in any preceding decade since 1961. Seasonally,the greatest increase in temperature and precipitation appears in winter and in summer, respectively. Widespread significant changes in temperature-related extremes are consistent with warming, with decreases in cold extremes and increases in warm extremes. The warming of the coldest night is greater than that of the warmest day, and changes in cold and warm nights are more evident than for cold and warm days. Extreme precipitation and wet days exhibit an increasing trend, and the maximum number of consecutive dry days shows a tendency toward shorter duration. Multi-model ensemble mean projections indicate an overall continual increase in temperature and precipitation during the 21 st century. | 4 | Performance of RegCM4 over Major River Basins in China显示文摘A long-term simulation for the period 1990–2010 is conducted with the latest version of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics' Regional Climate Model(RegCM4), driven by ERA-Interim boundary conditions at a grid spacing of 25 km. The Community Land Model(CLM) is used to describe land surface processes, with updates in the surface parameters,including the land cover and surface emissivity. The simulation is compared against observations to evaluate the model performance in reproducing the present day climatology and interannual variability over the 10 main river basins in China,with focus on surface air temperature and precipitation. Temperature and precipitation from the ERA-Interim reanalysis are also considered in the model assessment. Results show that the model reproduces the present day climatology over China and its main river basins, with better performances in June–July–August compared to December–January–February(DJF).In DJF, we find a warm bias at high latitudes, underestimated precipitation in the south, and overestimated precipitation in the north. The model in general captures the observed interannual variability, with greater skill for temperature. We also find an underestimation of heavy precipitation events in eastern China, and an underestimation of consecutive dry days in northern China and the Tibetan Plateau. | 8 | Evaluation of the yield and nitrogen use efficiency of the dominant maize hybrids grown in North and Northeast China显示文摘Breeding high-yielding and nutrient-efficient cultivars is one strategy to simultaneously resolve the problems of food security,resource shortage,and environmental pollution.However,the potential increased yield and reduction in fertilizer input achievable by using high-yielding and nutrient-efficient cultivars is unclear.In the present study,we evaluated the yield and nitrogen use efficiency(NUE) of 40 commercial maize hybrids at five locations in North and Northeast China in 2008 and 2009.The effect of interaction between genotype and nitrogen(N) input on maize yield was significant when the yield reduction under low-N treatment was 25%-60%.Based on the average yields achieved with high or low N application,the tested cultivars were classified into four types based on their NUE:efficient-efficient(EE) were efficient under both low and high N inputs,high-N efficient(HNE) under only high N input,low-N efficient(LNE) under only low N input,and nonefficient-nonefficient under neither low nor high N inputs.Under high N application,EE and HNE cultivars could potentially increase maize yield by 8%-10% and reduce N input by 16%-21%.Under low N application,LNE cultivars could potentially increase maize yield by 12%.We concluded that breeding for N-efficient cultivars is a feasible strategy to increase maize yield and/or reduce N input. | CHEN FanJun FANG ZenGuo GAO Qiang YE YouLiang JIA LiangLiang YUAN LiXing MI GuoHua ZHANG FuSuo | 2013 | Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,6: | 27 |

| 10 | Detection of RASSF1A promoter hypermethylation in serum from gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma patients显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the diagnostic role of serum RASSF1A promoter hypermethylation in gastric and colorectal ad- enocarcinoma. METHODS:Methylation-specific polymerase chain reac- tion (MSPCR) was used to examine the promoter meth- ylation status of the serum RASSF1A gene in 47 gastric adenocarcinoma patients, 45 colorectal adenocarcinoma patients, 60 patients with benign gastrointestinal dis- ease (30 with benign gastric disease and 30 with benign colorectal disease), and 30 healthy donor controls. Apaired study of RASSF1A promoter methylation status in primary tumor, adjacent normal tissue, and postopera- tive serum were conducted in 25 gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma patients who later were underwent sur- gical therapy. RESULTS:The frequencies of detection of serum RASSF1A promoter hypermethylation in gastric (34.0%) and colorectal (28.9%) adenocarcinoma patients were significantly higher than those in patients with benign gastric (3.3%) or colorectal (6.7%) disease or in healthy donors (0%) (P < 0.01). The methylation status of RASSF1A promoter in serum samples was consistent with that in paired primary tumors, and the MSPCR results for RASSF1A promoter methylation status in paired preoperative samples were consistent with those in postoperative serum samples. The serum RASSF1A promoter hypermethylation did not correlate with patient sex, age, tumor differentiation grade, surgical therapy, or serum carcinoembryonic antigen level. Although the serum RASSF1A promoter hypermethylation frequency tended to be higher in patients with distant metastases, there was no correlation between methylation status and metastasis. | 13 | Effect of particle size on the microstructure and thermal conductivity of Al/diamond composites prepared by spark plasma sintering显示文摘Spark plasma sintering (SPS) was used to fabricate Al/diamond composites. The influence of diamond particle size on the microstructure and thermal conductivity (TC) of composites was investigated by combining experimental results with model prediction. The results show that both composites with 40 μm particles and 70 μm particles exhibit high density and good TC, and the composite with 70 μm particles indicates an excellent TC of 325 W·m-1·K-1. Their TCs lay between the theoretical estimated bounds. In contrast, the composite with 100 μm particles demonstrates low density as well as poor TC due to its high porosity and weak interfacial bonding. Its TC is even considerably less than the lower bound of the predicted value. | 17 | Urimem,a membrane that can store urinary proteins simply and economically,makes the large-scale storage of clinical samples possible显示文摘By nature,biomarker is the measurable change associated with a physiological or pathophysiological process.Unlike blood which has mechanisms to minimize changes and to keep the internal environment homeostatic,urine is more likely to reflect changes of the body and is a better biomarker source.Because of its potential in biomarker discovery,urinary proteins should be preserved comprehensively as the duration of the patients’corresponding medical records.Here,we propose a method to adsorb urinary proteins onto a membrane we named Urimem.This simple and inexpensive method requires minimal sample handling,uses no organic solvents,and is environmentally friendly.Urine samples were filtered through the membrane,and urinary proteins were adsorbed onto the membrane.The proteins on the membrane were dried and stored in a vacuum bag,which keeps the protein pattern faithfully preserved.The membrane may even permit storage at room temperature for weeks.Using this simple and inexpensive method,it is possible to begin preserving urine samples from all consenting people.Thus,medical research especially biomarker research can be conducted more economically.Even more objective large-scale prospective studies will be possible.This method has the potential to change the landscape of medical research and medical practice. | JIA LuLu LIU XueJiao LIU Liu LI MingXi GAO YouHe | 2014 | Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,3: | 19 |
| 18 | Repeated measurement of growth-differentiation factor-15in Chinese Han patients with post-myocardial infarction chronic heart failure显示文摘Background Growth-differentiation factor-15(GDF-15)is a promising prognostic biomarker in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).Comparatively little is known about the value of repeated measurement of GDF-15with CI-IF in Chinese Han population.This study sought to identify the clinical value of repeated measurement of GDF-15in Chinese Han patients with post-myocardial infarction CHF. Methods In total,232consecutive Chinese Hart patients with post-myocardial infarction CHF were enrolled prospectively from January 2014to June 2016.The plasma concentration of GDF-15was determined on admission and over 12months.Patients were followed up for all-cause death and a composite outcome of major adverse cardiac events (MACE)included all-cause death,myocardial infarction and first heart failure (HF)re-hospitalization.Association with other clinical variables and adverse outcomes of repeated measurement of GDF-15 was explored.Results The median baseline GDF-15level was 2025ng/L.Baseline GDF-15was moderately associated with baseline N-terminal pro-B type nalriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP)(coefficient 0.561,P <0.001).During a median follow-up of 20months,there were 53deaths and 100MACE.GDF-I5remained an independent predictor of all-cause death (adjusted hazard ratio 1.826per 1Ln U,95%CI: 1.037-8.360;P =0.037)and MACE (adjusted hazard ratio 2.243per I Ln U,95%CI:1.181-1.775;P <0.001)adjusted for established risk factors.Repeated measurement of GDF-15was performed in 173survivals over 12months.Increase of GDF-15over 12months was associ- ated with dilatation of left ventricle and acted as an independent predictor of subsequent all-canse death (adjusted HR =3.164,95%CI: 1.245~.041;P =0.015).In the joint model,GDF-15was also shown to be a risk factor for all-cause death (HR =2.749,95%CI: 1.667-3.831;P <0.001)and MACE (FIR =2.434,95%CI:1.425-3.443;P <0.001).Conclusions Repeated measurements of GDF-15 have promising prognostic value of the risk of all-cause death in Chinese Han patients with CI-IF post-myocardial infarction.GDF-15may influence the post-myocardial infarction CI-IF through the path physiological pathway of myocardial remodeling. | Ji-Xuan LIU Yan-Ping LI Bo-Han LIU Xiao-Jing ZHAO Ze-Yu ZHANG Jin-Da WANG Qian JIA Chun-Lei LIU Xiao-Jian GAO Zhen-Guo XU Hua-Wei ZHANG Lin-Nan SONG Zhi-Jun SUN Kun-Lun HE | 2018 | Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2018,15,10: | 19 |

| 20 | Performance of dithiocarbamate-type flocculant in treating simulated polymer flooding produced water显示文摘Produced water from polymer flooding is difficult to treat due to its high polymer concentration,high viscosity,and emulsified characteristics.The dithiocarbamate flocculant,DTC (T403),was prepared by the amine-terminated polyoxypropane-ether compound known as Jeffamine-T403.The product was characterized by IR spectra and elemental analysis.The DTC agent chelating with Fe 2+ produced a network polymer matrix,which captured and removed oil droplets efficiently.Oil removal by the flocculent on simulated produced water with 0,200,500,900 mg/L of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) was investigated for aspects of effectiveness of DTC (T403) dosage and concentrations of HPAM and Fe 2+ ions in the wastewater.Results showed that HPAM had a negative influence on oil removal efficiency when DTC (T403) dosage was lower than 20 mg/L.However,residual oil concentrations in tested samples with different concentrations of HPAM all decreased below 10 mg/L when DTC (T403) dosage reached 30 mg/L.The concentration of Fe 2+ in the initial wastewater had a slight effect on oil removal at the range of 2-12 mg/L.Results showed that Fe 3+ could not be used in place of Fe 2+ as Fe 3+ could not react with DTC under flocculated conditions.The effects of mineral salts ions were also investigated. | Baoyu Gao | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,1: | 18 |
