| 1 | Immunogenetic characteristics of patients with autoimmune gastritis显示文摘AIM:To explore whether predisposition to autoimmune gastritis (AIG) is found in human leukocyte antigen (HLA), cytokine or killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) gene variations.METHODS: Twelve Finnish patients with autoimmunetype severe atrophy of the gastric corpus were included. The patients' serum was analyzed for pepsinogen-interleukin (IL)-1 gene cluster, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12, interferon γ, transforming growth factor β, and tumor necrosis factor α. Variation in KIR genes was also explored. | 2 | Comparison of operative link for gastritis assessment, operative link on gastric intestinal metaplasia assessment, and TAIM stagings among men with atrophic gastritis显示文摘BACKGROUND Gastric cancer is the world’s third most lethal malignancy. Most gastric cancers develop through precancerous states of atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia. Two staging systems, operative link for gastritis assessment(OLGA)and operative link on gastric intestinal metaplasia assessment(OLGIM), have been developed to detect high gastric cancer risk. European guidelines recommend surveillance for high-risk OLGA/OLGIM patients(stages Ⅲ–Ⅳ),and for those with advanced stage of atrophic gastritis in the whole stomach mucosa. We hypothesize, that by combining atrophy and intestinal metaplasia into one staging named TAIM, more patients with increased gastric cancer risk could be detected.AIM To evaluate the clinical value of the OLGA, OLGIM, and novel TAIM stagings as prognostic indicators for gastric cancer.METHODS In the Helsinki Gastritis Study, 22346 elderly male smokers from southwestern Finland were screened for serum pepsinogen I(PGI). Between the years 1989 and1993, men with low PGI values(PGI < 25 μg/L), were invited to undergo an oesophagogastroduodenoscopy. In this retrospective cohort study, 1147 men that underwent gastroscopy were followed for gastric cancer for a median of 13.7 years, and a maximum of 27.3 years. We developed a new staging system, TAIM,by combining the topography with the severity of atrophy or intestinal metaplasia in gastric biopsies. In TAIM staging, the gastric cancer risk is classified as low or high.RESULTS Twenty-eight gastric cancers were diagnosed during the follow-up, and the incidence rate was 1.72 per 1000 patient-years. The cancer risk associated positively with TAIM [Hazard ratio(HR) 2.70, 95%CI: 1.09–6.69, P = 0.03]. The risk increased through OLGIM stages 0-Ⅳ(0 vs Ⅳ: HR 5.72, 95%CI: 1.03–31.77, P for trend = 0.004), but not through OLGA stages 0–Ⅳ(0 vs Ⅳ: HR 5.77, 95%CI:0.67–49.77, P for trend = 0.10). The sensitivities of OLGA and OLGIM stages Ⅲ–Ⅳ were low, 21% and 32%, respectively, whereas that of TAIM high-risk was good, 79%. On the contrary, OLGA and OLGIM had high specificity, 85% and81%, respectively, but TAIM showed low specificity, 42%. | 3 | Synchrotron radiation investigations of the Sr_2MgSi_2O_7:Eu^(2+),R^(3+) persistent luminescence materials显示文摘The electronic and defect energy level structure of polycrystalline Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+,R3+ persistent luminescence materials were studied with thermoluminescence and different synchrotron radiation spectroscopies (UV-VUV emission and excitation, X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS)). Special attention was paid on the effect of the R3+ co-dopants on the persistent luminescence properties of the materials. Theoretical calculations using the density functional theory (DFT) were carried out simultaneously with the experimental work. The experimental band gap energy (Eg) value of ca. 7.1 eV agreed very well with the DFT value of 6.7 eV. The variation of the Eg value was attempted to relate with the trap structure as well as with the different properties of the R3+ co-dopants. The trap level energy distribution depended strongly on the R3+ co-dopant except for the shallowest trap energy above the room temperature remaining practically the same, however. | 9 | Influence of emergent macrophyte (Phragmites australis) density on water turbulence and erosion of organic-rich sediment显示文摘The effects of the emergent macrophyte Phragmites australis on water turbulence, bottom shear velocity and water turbidity were experimentally studied with the stem densities 0 stems/m 2 -100 stems/m 2 and using organic-rich sediment. It is found that the maximum root-mean-square (rms) velocity and shear velocity decrease linearly with increasing stem density. By affecting the height of peak turbulence values, emergent plants can thus lower the frequency of sediment erosion events. Additionally, the slope of the rms turbulence increment decreases with increasing stem density. Thus, also the duration of strong turbulence is affected by the density of emergent macrophytes. The critical shear velocity for sediment resuspension is 0.0035 m/s-0.0055 m/s and not affected by the stem density. In the absence of macrophytes, water flow causes a 6.3-fold increment in turbidity, but with macrophytes turbidity values remain lower. | 10 | Methods, units and quality requirements for the analysis of haemoglobin A_(1c) in diabetes mellitus显示文摘The formation of glycohemoglobin, especially the hemoglobin A1c(Hb_(A1c)) fraction, occurs when glucose becomes coupled with the amino acid valine in the β-chain of Hb; this reaction is dependent on the plasma concentration of glucose. Since the early 1970 s it has been known that diabetics display higher values of Hb_(A1c) because they have elevated blood glucose concentrations. Thus Hb_(A1c) has acquired a very important role in the treatment and diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. After the introduction of the first quantitative measurement of Hb_(A1c), numerous methods for glycohemoglobin have been introduced with different assay principles: From a simple minicolumn technique to the very accurate automated highpressure chromatography and lastly to many automated immunochemical or enzymatic assays. In early days, the results of the quality control reports for Hb_(A1c) varied extensively between laboratories, therefore in United States and Canada working groups(WG) of the Diabetes Controls and Complications Trial(DCCT) were set up to standardize the Hb_(A1c) assays against the DCCT/National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program reference method based on liquid chromatography. In the 1990 s, the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine(IFCC) appointed a new WG to plan a reference preparation and method for the Hb_(A1c) measurement. When the reference procedureswere established, in 2004 IFCC recommended that all manufacturers for equipment used in Hb_(A1c) assays should calibrate their methods to their proposals. This led to an improvement in the coefficient of variation(CV%) associated with the assay. In this review, we describe the glycation of Hb, methods, standardization of the Hb_(A1c) assays, analytical problems, problems with the units in which Hb_(A1c) values are expressed, reference values, quality control aspects, target requirements for Hb_(A1c), and the relationship of the plasma glucose values to Hb_(A1c) concentrations. We also note that the acceptance of the mmol/mol system for Hb_(A1c) as recommended by IFCC, i.e., the new unit and reference ranges, are becoming only slowly accepted outside of Europe where it seems that expressing Hb_(A1c) values either only in per cent units or with parallel reporting of percent and mmol/mol will continue. | 16 | Application of a littoral Baltic Sea resuspension model in a eutrophic lake-factors behind differences in the model performance显示文摘The performance of a linear resuspension model developed in the Baltic Sea was studied in the conditions of a eutrophic Lake Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi(southern Finland).The model predicts sediment resuspension rate using data on vegetation cover,wind and sediment quality as an input.When the original model coefficients were used,the model resulted on average 1.8 fold overestimation of the resuspension rate in Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi.This was due to lower fetch and water depth,and less consolidated sediment of Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi compared with the Baltic Sea study site.When coefficients were adjusted for Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi,the model predictions were 1.1 times the measured values.Due to the continuous resuspension,the effect of the wind term in the model was so low that it could be excluded without affecting the accuracy of model predictions.The study demonstrated that in a shallow eutrophic lake accurate predictions on resuspension rate can be made using only data on sediment quality and on factors inhibiting resuspension(macrophytes).The model residuals increased with increasing resuspension rate and high rates of resuspension were underestimated by the model.Due to the fluffy sediment in Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi,erosion of sediment increases more than linear with increasing shear stress.Thus in such conditions,even better predictions could be achieved by a non-linear resuspension model. | Jukka Horppila Joni Kaitaranta Leena Nurminen | 2015 | International Journal of Sediment Research2015,30,2: | 2 |

| 19 | Effects of CXCR7-neutralizing antibody on neurogenesis in the hippocampal dentate gyrus and cognitive function in the chronic phase of cerebral ischemia显示文摘Stromal cell-derived factor-1 and its receptor CXCR4 are essential regulators of the neurogenesis that occurs in the adult hippocampal dentate gyrus.However,the effects of CXCR7,a new atypical receptor of stromal cell-derived factor-1,on hippocampal neurogenesis after a stroke remain largely unknown.Our study is the first to investigate the effect of a CXCR7-neutralizing antibody on neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus and the associated recovery of cognitive function of rats in the chronic stage of cerebral ischemia.The rats were randomly divided into sham,sham+anti-CXCR7,ischemia and ischemia+anti-CXCR7 groups.Endothelin-1 was injected in the ipsilateral motor cortex and striatum to induce focal cerebral ischemia.Sham group rats were injected with saline instead of endothelin-1 via intracranial injection.Both sham and ischemic rats were treated with intraventricular infusions of CXCR7-neutralizing antibodies for 6 days 1 week after surgery.Immunofluorescence staining with doublecortin,a marker for neuronal precursors,was performed to assess the neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus.We found that anti-CXCR7 antibody infusion enhanced the proliferation and dendritic development of doublecortin-labeled cells in the dentate gyrus in both ischemic and sham-operated rats.Spatial learning and memory functions were assessed by Morris water maze tests 30-32 days after ischemia.CXCR7-neutralizing antibody treatment significantly reduced the escape latency of the spatial navigation trial and increased the time spent in the target quadrant of spatial probe trial in animals that received ischemic insult,but not in sham operated rats.These results suggest that CXCR7-neutralizing antibody enhances the neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus and improves the cognitive function after cerebral ischemia in rats.All animal experimental protocols and procedures were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of China Medical University(CMU16089 R)on December 8,2016. | Bing-Chao Dong Mei-Xuan Li Xiao-Yin Wang Xi Cheng Yu Wang Ting Xiao Jukka Jolkkonen Chuan-Sheng Zhao Shan-Shan Zhao | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,6: | 2 |
