| 16 | Natural Convection in a Horizontal Cylinder with Partial Heating: Energy Efficiency Analysis显示文摘The current study reports a numerical analysis of free convection of air in an isothermal horizontal cylinder,cooled and heated at different wall locations.Three heater sizes are discussed in this study.The first heated zone is spread across one-quarter of the sidewall;the second is uniformly distributed over the half of the wall and the third active wall covers three-quarters of the cylinder.Five various locations are considered and examined for each active zone of the sidewall.The computation is carried out for Rayleigh number ranging from 102 to 106.Numerical results characterizing heat transfer and flow features are achieved using an iterative model developed in COMSOL Multiphysics.The effect of Rayleigh number on heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics within the cavity are investigated.Particular attention is paid to the influence of heater location and heater size on energy efficiency.It is found that the mean Nusselt number and dimensionless velocity increase when increasing the Rayleigh number.Moreover,the optimal level of energy efficiency is achieved if the heating zone is centered at the upper part of the cylinder,regardless of the heater size.It is also shown that the optimal configuration providing higher energy efficiency is obtained when three-quarters of the sidewall are locally heated,and more precisely,if the active zone is centered at the top of the cylinder. | MAZGAR Akram JARRAY Khouloud HAJJI Fadhila BEN NEJMA Faycal | 2020 | Journal of Thermal Science2020,29,6: | 0 |
| 17 | Effect of viscosity on the avalanche dynamics and flow transition of wet granular matter显示文摘The dynamic behaviour of granular flows is important in geo-mechanics and industrial applications,yet poorly understood.We studied the effects of liquid viscosity and particle size on the dynamics of wet granular material flowing in a slowly rotating drum,in order to detect the transition from the avalanching to the continuous flow regime.A discrete element method(DEM)model,in which contact forces and cohesive forces were considered,was employed to simulate this flow behaviour.The model was validated experimentally,using glass beads in a wooden drum and water–glycerol mixtures to tune the liquid viscosity.The DEM simulations showed comparable results to the experiments in terms of average slope angle and avalanche amplitude.We observed that the avalanche amplitude,flow layer velocity and granular temperature decrease as the liquid viscosity increases.This effect is more pronounced for smaller sized particles.The increase in viscous forces causes the flowing particles to behave as a bulk,pushing the free surface towards a convex shape.In addition,avalanches become less pronounced and the granular flow transitions from the avalanching regime to the continuous regime.The avalanching flow regime is marked by intermittent rigid body movement of the particulate bed and near-zero drops in the granular temperature,while no rigid body movement of the bed occurs in the continuous flow regime.We identified the avalanching-continuous flow transition region as a function of a dimensionless granular Galileo number. | Jens H.Kasper Vanessa Magnanimo Sjoerd D.M.de Jong Arjan Beek Ahmed Jarray | 2021 | Particuology2021,19,6: | 0 |
| 18 | Path Planning of Quadrotors in a Dynamic Environment Using a Multicriteria Multi-Verse Optimizer显示文摘Paths planning of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)in a dynamic environment is considered a challenging task in autonomous flight control design.In this work,an efficient method based on a Multi-Objective MultiVerse Optimization(MOMVO)algorithm is proposed and successfully applied to solve the path planning problem of quadrotors with moving obstacles.Such a path planning task is formulated as a multicriteria optimization problem under operational constraints.The proposed MOMVO-based planning approach aims to lead the drone to traverse the shortest path from the starting point and the target without collision with moving obstacles.The vehicle moves to the next position from its current one such that the line joining minimizes the total path length and allows aligning its direction towards the goal.To choose the best compromise solution among all the non-dominated Pareto ones obtained for compromise objectives,the modified Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS)is investigated.A set of homologous metaheuristics such as Multiobjective Salp Swarm Algorithm(MSSA),Multi-Objective Grey Wolf Optimizer(MOGWO),Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization(MOPSO),and Non-Dominated Genetic Algorithm II(NSGAII)is used as a basis for the performance comparison.Demonstrative results and statistical analyses show the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed MOMVO-based planning method.The obtained results are satisfactory and encouraging for future practical implementation of the path planning strategy. | Raja Jarray Mujahed Al-Dhaifallah Hegazy Rezk Soufiene Bouallègue | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,11: | 0 |
