| 1 | Treatment options for unstable trochanteric fractures: Screw or helical proximal femoral nail显示文摘Purpose: To compare treatment outcome of screw proximal femoral nail (PFN) system with that of a helical PFN. Methods: The study included 77 patients with closed unstable intertrochanteric fracture classified as AO 31A2 & 31A3, between June 2008 to August 2011. Inclusion criteria were: all mature skeletons above 50 years of age; closed unstable trochanteric fracture classified as AO 31A2 & A3. Exclusion criteria were: immature skeleton, pathological fracture of any cause other than osteoporosis, inability to walk inde- pendently prior to injury. Patients were randomized to 2 treatment groups based on admission sequence. Forty patients were treated with screw PFN and thirty seven were treated with helical PFN. Results: Both groups were similar in respect of time of surgery, blood loss and functional assessment and duration of hospitalization. In screw PFN group 2 patients had superficial wound infection, 1 patient had persistent hip pain and 1 patient had shortening 〉1 cm but 〈2 cm, while in helical PFN group 1 patient had superficial wound infection. Conclusion: Both screw and helical PFN are very effective implants in osteoporotic and unstable trochanteric fractures even in Indian patients where the bones are narrow and neck diameter is small. | 2 | Climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas mitigation and economic profitability of conservation agriculture: Some examples from cereal systems of Indo-Gangetic Plains显示文摘Achieving sustainability of the cereal system in the Indo-Gangetic Plains(IGP)of India under progressive climate change and variability necessitates adoption of practices and technologies that increase food production,adaptation and mitigation in a sustainable way.This paper examines conservation agriculture(CA)from the perspective of:(i)increased yield and farm income,(ii)adaptation to heat and water stresses,and(iii)reduction in greenhouse gas(GHGs)emissions.The analyses and conclusions are based on the literature and evidences from a large number of on-station as well as farmers’field trials on CA in the cereal systems of IGP.Our analyses show that CA-based system substantially reduces the production cost(up to 23%)but produces equal or even higher than conventional system;thereby increasing economic profitability of production system.CA-based production systems also moderated the effect of high temperature(reduced canopy temperature by 1–4°C)and increased irrigation water productivity by 66–100%compared to traditional production systems thus well adapting to water and heat stress situations of IGP.Our continuous monitoring of soil flux of CO2,N2O and CH4 revealed that CA-based rice-wheat systems emit 10–15%less GHGs than conventional systems.This is the first time that CA and its components are synthesized and analyzed from food security-climate change nexus.From this holistic analysis,we suggest that wide-scale promotion of suitable CA practices by integrating into national agriculture development strategy is a way forward to address food security,climate change adaptation and mitigation challenges faced by present agriculture. | Tek B Sapkota M L Jat Jeetendra P Aryal R K Jat Arun Khatri-Chhetri | 2015 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2015,14,8: | 4 |

| 10 | Comparative analysis of memristor models and memories design显示文摘The advent of the memristor breaks the scaling limitations of MOS technology and prevails over emerging semiconductor devices. In this paper, various memristor models including behaviour, spice, and experimental are investigated and compared with the memristor's characteristic equations and fingerprints. It has brought to light that most memristor models need a window function to resolve boundary conditions. Various challenges of availed window functions are discussed with matlab's simulated results. Biolek's window is a most acceptable window function for the memristor, since it limits boundaries growth as well as sticking of states at boundaries. Simmons tunnel model of a memristor is the most accepted model of a memristor till now. The memristor is exploited very frequently in memory designing and became a prominent candidate for futuristic memories. Here, several memory structures utilizing the memristor are discussed. It is seen that a memristor-transistor hybrid memory cell has fast read/write and low power operations. Whereas,a 1 T1 R structure provides very simple,nanoscale,and non-volatile memory that has capabilities to replace conventional Flash memories. Moreover, the memristor is frequently used in SRAM cell structures to make them have non-volatile memory.
