| 1 | Comparison of litterfall production in three forest types in Jeju Island, South Korea显示文摘Litterfall, which is influenced by physical and biological factors, is a major pathway for carbon and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems. The purpose of this study was to investigate monthly litterfall production in three forests in Jeju Island differentiated by forest composition and precipitation: Cheongsu(Quercus glauca as the dominant species;low precipitation), Seonheulb(Q. glauca as the dominant species;high precipitation), and Seonheulm(Q. glauca and Pinus thunbergii as the dominant species;high precipitation). Litterfall was collected monthly from April to December 2015 and divided into leaf litter, twig, bark, seeds, and unidentified materials.Seasonal patterns of litterfall production varied across stands according to their species composition. However,the amount of leaf litterfall and total litterfall were comparable among stands, ranging from 362 to 375 g m-2 for leaf litter and 524 g m-2 to 580 g m-2 for total litterfall.Oak leaf litter in May was the highest in all stands, while needle litter was the highest in December in Seonheulm.High twig litterfall in July may be attributable to high rainfall with strong winds and storms during the rainy season. | 2 | Two-week bismuth-containing quadruple therapy and concomitant therapy are effective first-line treatments for Helicobacter pylori eradication: A prospective open-label randomized trial显示文摘BACKGROUND Increasing levels of antibiotic resistance have reduced the Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)eradication rates afforded by the standard triple therapy.Thus,2-wk firstline four-drug regimens must be considered.AIM To analyze the eradication rates of modified bismuth-containing quadruple therapy(mBCQT)and concomitant therapy(CT),the associated adverse events,and compliance.METHODS Patients infected with H.pylori were prospectively randomized to receive mBCQT or CT for 2 wk.mBCQT featured a proton pump inhibitor(PPI),bismuth,metronidazole,and tetracycline,taken twice daily.CT included a PPI,clarithromycin,metronidazole,and amoxicillin,taken twice daily.The 13C-urea breath test was performed no earlier than 4 wk after therapy concluded to confirm eradication.If either the histological or rapid urease test was positive,H.pylori infection was diagnosed.RESULTS The demographic characteristics of 68 patients who received mBCQT and 68 who received CT did not differ significantly.On intention-to-treat analysis,the eradication rate was 88.2%(60/68)in the mBCQT group and 79.4%(54/68)in the CT group(P=0.162).By per-protocol analysis,the respective eradication rates were 98.4%(60/61)and 93.1%(54/58)(P=0.199).More CT than mBCQT patients experienced adverse events[33.8%(23/68)mBCQT vs 51.5%(35/58)CT patients,respectively,P=0.037].All patients showed good compliance[85.3%(58/68)mBCQT vs 82.4%(56/68)CT patients,P=0.641].CONCLUSION The H.pylori eradication rates of the 2-wk mBCQT and CT regimens are high.Most patients show good compliance,and more CT than mBCQT patients experience adverse events. | So Jeong Kim Jun-Won Chung Hyun Sun Woo Su Young Kim Jung Ho Kim Yoon Jae Kim Kyoung Oh Kim Kwang An Kwon Dong Kyun Park | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,46: | 2 |
| 3 | 3D-printed gelatin methacrylate (GelMA)/ silanated silica scaffold assisted by two-stage cooling system for hard tissue regeneration显示文摘Among many biomaterials,gelatin methacrylate(GelMA),a photocurable protein,has been widely used in 3D bioprinting process owing to its excellent cellular responses,biocompatibility and biodegradability.However,GelMA still shows a low processability due to the severe temperature dependence of viscosity.To overcome this obstacle,we propose a two-stage temperature control system to effectively control the viscosity of GelMA.To optimize the process conditions,we evaluated the temperature of the cooling system(jacket and stage).Using the established system,three GelMA scaffolds were fabricated in which different concentrations(0,3 and 10 wt%)of silanated silica particles were embedded.To evaluate the performances of the prepared scaffolds suitable for hard tissue regeneration,we analyzed the physical(viscoelasticity,surface roughness,compressive modulus and wettability)and biological(human mesenchymal stem cells growth,western blotting and osteogenic differentiation)properties.Consequently,the composite scaffold with greater silica contents(10 wt%)showed enhanced physical and biological performances including mechanical strength,cell initial attachment,cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation compared with those of the controls.Our results indicate that the GelMA/silanated silica composite scaffold can be potentially used for hard tissue regeneration. | Eunjeong Choi Dongyun Kim Donggu Kang Gi Hoon Yang Bongsu Jung MyungGu Yeo Min-Jeong Park SangHyun An KyoungHo Lee Jun Sik Kim Jong Chul Kim Woonhyeok Jeong Hye Hyun Yoo Hojun Jeon | 2021 | Regenerative Biomaterials2021,8,2: | 2 |

| 19 | FOLFIRINOX vs gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel for treatment of metastatic pancreatic cancer: Single-center cohort study显示文摘BACKGROUND FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel(Gem+nabPTX)were recently introduced for metastatic pancreatic cancer treatment.However,studies that compared these two regimens and studies in Asian populations are lacking.AIM To compare the treatment outcomes of FOLFIRINOX and Gem+nabPTX regimen for metastatic pancreatic cancer treatment in Korean population.METHODS Patients with metastatic or recurrent pancreatic cancer treated with FOLFIRINOX(n=86)or Gem+nabPTX(n=81)as the first-line since January 2015 were identified using the Severance Hospital Pancreatic Cancer Cohort Registry.Treatment efficacy,treatment-related adverse events and economic aspects were compared.RESULTS Patients in the FOLFIRINOX group were significantly younger(54 vs 65 years;P<0.001)and had better performance statuses at diagnosis.The median overall survival(10.7 vs 12.1 mo;P=0.157),progression-free survival(8.0 vs 8.4 mo;P=0.134),and objective response rates(33.7%vs 46.9%;P=0.067)were not significantly different when compared with Gem+nabPTX group.Grade≥3 neutropenia and gastrointestinal adverse events were more common in the FOLFIRINOX group.The drug costs of both regimens were similar.CONCLUSION Treatment efficacy and economic burdens were comparable between the two regimens.But,the details of adverse event were different.Gem+nabPTX regimen might be considered preferentially in certain conditions. | In Rae Cho Huapyong Kang Jung Hyun Jo Hee Seung Lee Moon Jae Chung Jeong Youp Park Seung Woo Park Si Young Song Chansik An Mi-Suk Park Seungmin Bang | 2020 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2020,12,2: | 1 |
