Dynamic Hand Gesture Recognition Based on Short-Term Sampling Neural Networks显示文摘Hand gestures are a natural way for human-robot interaction.Vision based dynamic hand gesture recognition has become a hot research topic due to its various applications. This paper presents a novel deep learning network for hand gesture recognition. The network integrates several well-proved modules together to learn both short-term and long-term features from video inputs and meanwhile avoid intensive computation. To learn short-term features, each video input is segmented into a fixed number of frame groups.A frame is randomly selected from each group and represented as an RGB image as well as an optical flow snapshot. These two entities are fused and fed into a convolutional neural network(Conv Net)for feature extraction. The Conv Nets for all groups share parameters. To learn longterm features, outputs from all Conv Nets are fed into a long short-term memory(LSTM)network,by which a final classification result is predicted. The new model has been tested with two popular hand gesture datasets, namely the Jester dataset and Nvidia dataset.Comparing with other models, our model produced very competitive results. The robustness of the new model has also been proved with an augmented dataset with enhanced diversity of hand gestures.Wenjin Zhang Jiacun Wang Fangping Lan 2021IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2021,8,1:5
Vulnerability to drought-induced cavitation in shoots of two typical shrubs in the southern Mu Us Sandy Land, China显示文摘Salix psammophila and Caragana korshinskii are two typical shrubs in the southern Mu Us Sandy Land of China which are threatened by increasing water deficits related to climate change and large-scale human activities(e.g. coal mining and oil exploitation). In this study, we assessed their vulnerability to xylem embolism and the related anatomical traits in two-year-old regenerated shoots of these two shrubs to understand how they cope with drought environment. We also evaluated the in situ hydraulic safety margins to hydraulic failure from measurements of annual predawn and midday leaf water potentials. The results showed that S. psammophila stems had a higher water transport capacity than C. korshinskii stems. The stem xylem water potentials at 12%, 50% and 88% loss of conductivity were –1.11, –1.63 and –2.15 MPa in S. psammophila, respectively, and –1.37, –2.64 and –3.91 MPa in C. korshinskii, respectively. This suggested that C. korshinskii was more resistant to cavitation than S. psammophila. Compared with S. psammophila, C. korshinskii had shorter maximum vessel length, lower vessel density, smaller conductive area and higher wood density, which may contribute to its more resistant xylem. The in situ hydraulic safety margins indicated that even during the driest periods, both shrubs lived well above the most critical embolism thresholds, and the hydraulic safety margin was wider in C. korshinskii than in S. psammophila, suggesting that the regenerated shoots of both shrubs could function normally and C. korshinskii had greater hydraulic protection. These results provide the basis for an in-depth understanding of the survival, growth and functional behavior of these two shrubs under harsh and dry desert environments.LI Yangyang CHEN Weiyue CHEN Jiacun SHI Hui 2016Journal of Arid Land2016,8,1:5
Effects of continuous nitrogen addition on microbial properties and soil organic matter in a Larix gmelinii plantation in China显示文摘Continuous increases in anthropogenic nitrogen(N) deposition are likely to change soil microbial properties, and ultimately to affect soil carbon(C) storage.Temperate plantation forests play key roles in C sequestration, yet mechanisms underlying the influences of N deposition on soil organic matter accumulation are poorly understood. This study assessed the effect of N addition on soil microbial properties and soil organic matter distribution in a larch(Larix gmelinii) plantation. In a 9-year experiment in the plantation, N was applied at100 kg N ha^(-1) a^(-1) to study the effects on soil C and N mineralization, microbial biomass, enzyme activity, and C and N in soil organic matter density fractions, and organic matter chemistry. The results showed that N addition had no influence on C and N contents in whole soil. However, soil C in different fractions responded to N addition differently. Soil C in light fractions did not change with N addition, while soil C in heavy fractions increased significantly. These results suggested that more soil C in heavy fractions was stabilized in the N-treated soils. However, microbial biomass C and N and phenol oxidase activity decreased in the N-treated soils and thus soil C increased in heavy fractions. Although N addition reduced microbial biomass and phenol oxidase activity, it had little effect on soil C mineralization, hydrolytic enzyme activities, d13 C value in soil and C–H stretch, carboxylates and amides, and C–O stretch in soil organic matter chemistry measured by Fourier transform infrared spectra. We conclude that N addition(1) altered microbial biomass and activity without affecting soil C in light fractions and(2) resulted in an increase in soil C in heavy fractions and that this increase was controlled by phenol oxidase activity and soil N availability.Kai Yang Jiaojun Zhu Jiacun Gu Shuang Xu Lizhong Yu Zhengquan Wang 2018Journal of Forestry Research2018,29,1:5
A Simulation Engine for Stochastic Timed Petri Nets and Application to Emergency Healthcare Systems显示文摘In many service delivery systems, the quantity of available resources is often a decisive factor of service quality.Resources can be personnel, offices, devices, supplies, and so on,depending on the nature of the services a system provides.Although service computing has been an active research topic for decades, general approaches that assess the impact of resource provisioning on service quality matrices in a rigorous way remain to be seen.Petri nets have been a popular formalism for modeling systems exhibiting behaviors of competition and concurrency for almost a half century.Stochastic timed Petri nets(STPN),an extension to regular Petri nets, are a powerful tool for system performance evaluation. However,we did not find any single existing STPN software tool that supports all timed transition firing policies and server types, not to mention resource provisioning and requirement analysis. This paper presents a generic and resource oriented STPN simulation engine that provides all critical features necessary for the analysis of service delivery system quality vs.resource provisioning. The power of the simulation system is illustrated by an application to emergency health care systems.Jiani Zhou Jiacun Wang Jun Wang 2019IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2019,6,4:4
Variation patterns of fine root biomass, production and turnover in Chinese forests显示文摘China’s forests cover 208.3 million ha and span a wide range of climates and a large variety of forest types including tropical, temperate, and boreal forests. However the variation patterns of fine root(<2 mm in diameter biomass, production, and turnover from the south to the north are unclear. This study summarizes fine root biomass(FRB),production(FRP)and turnover rate(FRT)in Chi na’s forests as reported by 140 case studies published from 1983 to 2014.The results showed that the mean values o FRB,FRP and FRT in China’s forests were 278 gm^(-2)366 gm^(-2)a^(-1),and 1.19 a^(-1),respectively.Compared with other studies at the regional or global scales,FRB in China’s forests was lower,FRP was similar to estimates a the global scale, but FRT was much higher.FRB,FRP,and FRT in China’s forests increased with increasing mean annual precipitation(MAP),indicating that fine root vari ables were likely related to MAP,rather than mean annua temperature or latitude. This is possibly due to the smal variation in temperature but greater variation in precipitation during the growing season. These findings suggest that spatiotemporal variation in precipitation has a more profound impact on fine root dynamics in China’s forests, and this will impact carbon and nutrient cycles driven by root turnover in the future.Shaozhong Wang Zhengquan Wang Jiacun Gu 2017Journal of Forestry Research2017,28,6:4
Deep Learning Based Hand Gesture Recognition and UAV Flight Controls显示文摘Dynamic hand gesture recognition is a desired alternative means for human-computer interactions. This paper presents a hand gesture recognition system that is designed for the control of flights of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV).A data representation model that represents a dynamic gesture sequence by converting the 4-D spatiotemporal data to 2-D matrix and a 1-D array is introduced. To train the system to recognize designed gestures, skeleton data collected from a Leap Motion Controller are converted to two different data models. As many as 9124 samples of the training dataset,1938 samples of the testing dataset are created to train and test the proposed three deep learning neural networks, which are a 2-layer fully connected neural network,a 5-layer fully connected neural network and an 8-layer convolutional neural network. The static testing results show that the 2-layer fully connected neural network achieves an average accuracy of 96.7%on scaled datasets and 12.3%on non-scaled datasets. The 5-layer fully connected neural network achieves an average accuracy of 98.0%on scaled datasets and 89.1%on non-scaled datasets. The 8-layer convolutional neural network achieves an average accuracy of 89.6%on scaled datasets and 96.9%on non-scaled datasets.Testing on a drone-kit simulator and a real drone shows that this system is feasible for drone flight controls.Bin Hu Jiacun Wang 2020International Journal of Automation and computing2020,17,1:3

Seismic Strain Energy Release of Active Faults in the Southeastern Margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Using the methods of the Gutenberg magnitude energy empirical formula and the Benioff seismic strain energy release curve,we make a systematic study on seismic strain energy release of historical earthquakes in the southeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau since 1500.This paper provides a periodic table of the earthquake strain energy release in the fault zones and the fault block areas. The study shows that seismic strain energy release is strong in the east and south, and weak in the west and north. The overall seismic strain energy release of the Yushu-Xianshuihe-Xiaojiang fault system is consistent with the quasi-periodic pattern. The seismic cycle of some fault zones and fault block areas shows synchronization to a certain extent. The risk cannot be ignored in the current large release period of seismic strain energy in the southeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau.Local seismic risk analysis shows that seismic risk is very high on the Anninghe-Zemuhe and Xiaojiang fault zones. These dangerous zones need follow-up research. In future,it is necessary to combine different research methods to improve the reliability of seismic risk assessment.Liu Jie Zhao Genmo Wu Zhonghai Li Jiacun 2017Earthquake Research in China2017,31,1:0
