1Quantitative computed tomography analysis for stratifying the severity of Coronavirus Disease 2019显示文摘To examine the feasibility of using a computer tool for stratifying the severity of Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19)based on computed tomography(CT)images.We retrospectively examined 44 confirmed COVID-19 cases.All cases were evaluated separately by radiologists(visually)and through an in-house computer software.The degree of lesions was visually scored by the radiologist,as follows,for each of the 5 lung lobes:0,no lesion present;1,<1/3 involvement;2,>1/3 and<2/3 involvement;and 3,>2/3 involvement.Lesion density was assessed based on the proportion of ground-glass opacity(GGO),consolidation and fibrosis of the lesions.The parameters obtained using the computer tool included lung volume(mL),lesion volume(mL),lesion percentage(%),and mean lesion density(HU)of the whole lung,right lung,left lung,and each lobe.The scores obtained by the radiologists and quantitative results generated by the computer software were tested for correlation.A Chi-square test was used to test the consistency of radiologist-and computer-derived lesion percentage in the right/left lung,upper/lower lobe,and each of the 5 lobes.The results showed a strong to moderate correlation between lesion percentage scores obtained by radiologists and the computer software(r ranged from 0.7679 to 0.8373,P<0.05),and a moderate correlation between the proportion of GGO and mean lesion density(r=-0.5894,P<0.05),and proportion of consolidation and mean lesion density(r=0.6282,P<0.05).Computer-aided quantification showed a statistical significant higher lesion percentage for lower lobes than that assessed by the radiologists(x^2=8.160,P=0.004).Our experiments demonstrated that the computer tool could reliably and accurately assess the severity and distribution of pneumonia on CT scans.Cong Shen Nan Yu Shubo Cai Jie Zhou Jiexin Sheng Kang Liu Heping Zhou Youmin Guo Gang Niu 2020Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2020,10,2:13
2The effect of a seasonal stratification variation on the load exerted by internal solitary waves on a cylindrical pile显示文摘On the basis of Morison's empirical formula and modal separation method in estimating the force and torque exerted by internal solitary waves(ISWs) on a cylindrical pile, it is found that the loads exerted by the ISWs change largely in different seasons at the same site of the continental shelf in the South China Sea(SCS) even under the condition that the amplitudes of ISWs are the same. Thus, the effect of a seasonal water stratification variation on the force and torque exerted by the ISWs is investigated, and a three-parameter stratification model is employed. It is shown that the loads exerted by the ISWs depend largely on the water stratification. The stronger the water stratification, the larger the force and the torque; when the depth where the maximum thermocline appears is deepened, the force decreases but the torque increases; when the width of the thermocline is narrowed, the force increases but the torque decreases. 3A two-step weighted least-squares method for joint estimation of source and sensor locations: A general framework显示文摘It is well known that the Two-step Weighted Least-Squares(TWLS) is a widely used method for source localization and sensor position refinement. For this reason, we propose a unified framework of the TWLS method for joint estimation of multiple disjoint sources and sensor locations in this paper. Unlike some existing works, the presented method is based on more general measurement model, and therefore it can be applied to many different localization scenarios.Besides, it does not have the initialization and local convergence problem. The closed-form expression for the covariance matrix of the proposed TWLS estimator is also derived by exploiting the first-order perturbation analysis. Moreover, the estimation accuracy of the TWLS method is shown analytically to achieve the Cramér-Rao Bound(CRB) before the threshold effect takes place. The theoretical analysis is also performed in a common mathematical framework, rather than aiming at some specific signal metrics. 4The development of blood-retinal barrier during the interaction of astrocytes with vascular wall cells显示文摘Astrocytes are intimately involved in the formation and development of retinal vessels.Astrocyte dysfunction is a major cause of blood-retinal barrier injury and other retinal vascular diseases.In this study,the development of the retinal vascular system and the formation of the blood-retinal barrier in mice were investigated using immunofluorescence staining,gelatin-ink perfusion,and transmission electron microscopy.The results showed that the retinal vascular system of mice develops from the optic disc after birth,and radiates out gradually to cover the entire retina,taking the papilla optica as the center.First,the superficial vasculature is formed on the inner retinal layer; then,the vasculature extends into the inner and outer edges of the retinal inner nuclear layer,forming the deep vasculature that is parallel to the superficial vasculature.The blood-retinal barrier is mainly composed of endothelium,basal lamina and the end-feet of astrocytes,which become mature during mouse development.Initially,the naive endothelial cells were immature with few organelles and many microvilli.The basal lamina was uniform in thickness,and the glial end-feet surrounded the outer basal lamina incompletely.In the end,the blood-retinal barrier matures with smooth endothelia connected through tight junctions,relatively thin and even basal lamina,and relatively thin glial cell end-feet.These findings indicate that the development of the vasculature in the retina follows the rules of 'center to periphery' and 'superficial layer to deep layers'.Its development and maturation are spatially and temporally consistent with the functional performance of retinal neurons and photosensitivity.The blood-retinal barrier gradually becomes mature via the process of interactions between astrocytes and blood vessel cells.Huanling Yao Tianshi Wang Jiexin Deng Ding Liu Xiaofei Li Jinbo Deng 2014Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,10:6
5Synthesis of polymeric ionic liquids material and application in CO2 adsorption显示文摘We synthesized one quaternary ammonium polymeric ionic liquids(PILs)P[VBTHEA]Cl and three imidazolium PILs of P[VEIm]Br, P[VEIm]BF_4, P[VEIm]PF_6 by free-radical polymerization in solution. These PILs were characterized by FT-IR,~1 H-NMR,^(13)C-NMR, TGA, XRD and SEM. Their CO_2 adsorption capacities were measured under different pressures and temperatures by constant-volume technique. It was observed that quaternary ammonium PILs of P[VBTHEA]Cl have higher adsorption capacity for CO_2 than those imidazolium PILs, following P[VBTHEA]Cl > P[VEIm]PF_6> P[VEIm]BF_4> P[VEIm]Br, which may be ascribed to higher positive charge density on ammonium cation than that on imidazolium cation and thus stronger interaction with CO_2, consistent with the results from dual-mode adsorption model that ammonium PILs have much higher CO_2 bulk absorption than imidazolium PILs. CO_2 adsorption capacity of P[VBTHEA]Cl is 9.02 mg/g under 295 K and 1 bar, which is comparable to that of some other PILs, and is much higher than that of the corresponding ILs monomer. 6A novel inhibitor of N^(6)-methyladenosine demethylase FTO induces m RNA methylation and shows anti-cancer activities显示文摘N^(6)-methyladenosine(m^(6)A)modification is critical for m RNA splicing,nuclear export,stability and translation.Fat mass and obesity-associated protein(FTO),the first identified m^(6)A demethylase,is critical for cancer progression.Herein,we developed small-molecule inhibitors of FTO by virtual screening,structural optimization,and bioassay.As a result,two FTO inhibitors namely 18077 and 18097 were identified,which can selectively inhibit demethylase activity of FTO.Specifically,18097 bound to the active site of FTO and then inhibited cell cycle process and migration of cancer cells.In addition,18097 reprogrammed the epi-transcriptome of breast cancer cells,particularly for genes related to P53 pathway.18097 increased the abundance of m^(6)A modification of suppressor of cytokine signaling1(SOCS1)m RNA,which recruited IGF2 BP1 to increase m RNA stability of SOCS1 and subsequently activated the P53 signaling pathway.Further,18097 suppressed cellular lipogenesis via downregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma(PPARγ),CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha(C/EBPa),and C/EBPβ.Animal studies confirmed that 18097 can significantly suppress in vivo growth and lung colonization of breast cancer cells.Collectively,we identified that FTO can work as a potential drug target and the small-molecule inhibitor 18097 can serve as a potential agent against breast cancer.Guoyou Xie Xu-Nian Wu Yuyi Ling Yalan Rui Deyan Wu Jiawang Zhou Jiexin Li Shuibin Lin Qin Peng Zigang Li Hongsheng Wang Hai-Bin Luo 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,2:4
7Recent progress in the green synthesis of rare-earth doped upconversion nanophosphors for optical bioimaging from cells to animals显示文摘Rare-earth doped upconversion nanophosphors(UCNPs), which convert low energy near-infrared(NIR) photons into high energy photons such as ultraviolet, visible light and NIR light, have found various applications in optical bioimaging. In this review article, we summarize recent advances in the synthesis and applications of UCNPs achieved by us and other groups in the past few years. The approaches for the synthesis of UCNPs are presented,with an emphasis on the role of green chemistry in the advancement of this field, followed by a focused overview on their latest applications in optical bioimaging from subcellular structures through cells to living animals. 8DPD Algorithm for Moving Source Based on Doppler Frequency Shifts: Case of Known Waveforms显示文摘We focus on the Direct position determi-nation (DPD) of a moving narrowband source based on Doppler frequency shifts of signals with known waveforms. Two common motion models are considered: the Constant velocity (CV) model and the Constant acceleration (CA) model. The DPD cost function is obtained after some algebraic manipulations using the Maximum likelihood (ML) criterion. To develop a computationally efficient optimization algorithm, we present a preliminary mathematical result that plays a fundamental role in development of the proposed algorithm. Subsequently, a Newton iterative algorithm is tailored to the two motion models to determine the moving transmitter's trajectory. 9High-gravity-assisted green synthesis of rare-earth doped calcium molybdate colloidal nanophosphors显示文摘In this work,we report an innovative route for the synthesis of rare-earth doped calcium molybdate(CaMoO4)nanophosphors by using high gravity rotating packed bed(RPB)technology and paraffin liquid as the solvent.The significant intensified mass transfer and micromixing of reactants in the RPB reactor are benefiting for homogeneous doping of rare-earth ions in the host materials,leading to nanophosphors with high quantum efficiency.The use of liquid paraffin as the solvent eliminates the safety risks associated with volatile organic compounds,increasing the potential for clean production of nanophosphors.Under excitation of deep ultraviolet(DUV)light,the CaMoO4:Na+,Eu3+nanophosphors exhibit red emission at peak wavelength of 615 nm and quantum yield of up to 35.01%.The CaMoO4:Na+,Tb3+nanophosphors exhibit green emission at peak wavelength of543 nm with quantum yield of up to 30.66%.The morphologies of the nanophosphors are tunable from nanofibers through nanorods to nanodots and the possible mechanism of controlling the formation of different nanostructures is proposed on the basis of experimental results and theoretical analysis of mesoscience.These nanophosphors are highly dispersible in organic solvents and utilized for fabricating fabrication of flexible,freestanding luminescent films based on silicone resin.We also demonstrate the red LEDs consisting of the hybrid films of CaMoO4:Na+,Eu3+nanoparticles as color-converting phosphors and DUV LEDs as illuminators,offering strong potential for future nanophosphors-basedsolid-state lighting systems.Yuan Pu Lifeng Lin Jun Liu Jiexin Wang Dan Wang 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,6:3
10Towards efficient allocation of graph convolutional networks on hybrid computation-in-memory architecture显示文摘Graph convolutional networks(GCNs) have been applied successfully in social networks and recommendation systems to analyze graph data. Unlike conventional neural networks, GCNs introduce an aggregation phase, which is both computation-and memory-intensive. This phase aggregates features from the neighboring vertices in the graph, which incurs significant amounts of irregular data and memory access.The emerging computation-in-memory(CIM) architecture presents a promising solution to alleviate the problem of irregular accesses and provide fast near-data processing for GCN applications by integrating both three-dimensional stacked CIM and general-purpose processing units in the system. This paper presents Graph-CIM, which exploits the hybrid CIM architecture to determine the allocation of GCN applications.Graph-CIM models the GCN application process as a directed acyclic graph(DAG) and allocates tasks on the hybrid CIM architecture. It achieves fine-grained graph partitioning to capture the irregular characteristics of the aggregation phase of GCN applications. We use a set of representative GCN models and standard graph datasets to evaluate the effectiveness of Graph-CIM. 12Hypocoagulation induced by broadspectrum antibiotics in extensive burn patients显示文摘Background:Patients with extensive burns usually develop pro-coagulation soon after the injury if there is no sepsis occurred.We describe the case of an extensive burn adult suffering from hypocoagulation not related to sepsis,but secondary to antibiotic treatment.Case presentation:Here,we report a case of an adult male patient suffering from flame burns of 45%total body surface area(40%full thickness)combined with inhalation injury.Hypocoagulopathy with soaring prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time value occurred on third week post-burn while systemic infection had been under control by application of broad-spectrum antibiotics.Investigations showed that not the infection but vitamin K-related coagulation factor deficiency were responsible for unexpected bleeding.However,supplemental vitamin K was not the key as we expected,which prompted us trying to decode the underlying cause of coagulation disturbance in this patient and pick out the most effective treatment for live-saving.After the withdrawal of highly suspected broad-spectrum antibiotic,Meropenem^(■),disturbed vitamin K related coagulation factors gradually restored to their optimal levels so as to maintain normal coagulation status.Therefore,surgical procedures without further risk of bleeding could be carried out in time for wound recovery.The patient was discharged on post-burn day 67 and transferred to a secondary hospital for his rehabilitation.Conclusion:Hypocoagulopathy may be devoted to different reasons other than sepsis in extensive burns.Early recognition of the cause for coagulation disturbance is critical to make appropriate treatment and save patients’lives.This case illustrated the importance of unveiling the mist cause for coagulation disturbance occurred in extensive burn patient,which paved the way for optimal life-saving treatments.And we also recommend burn surgeons to be alerted to antibiotic-induced vitamin K deficiency-related coagulopathy among critical burn patients.Jian Liu Yiqing Liu Shengjun Liu Qin Zhang Jiexin Zheng Yiwen Niu Xuefeng Wang 2019Burns & Trauma2019,7,1:2
13Trace Amounts of Triple-Functional Additives Enable Reversible Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries from a Comprehensive Perspective显示文摘Although their cost-effectiveness and intrinsic safety,aqueous zinc-ion batteries suffer from notorious side reactions including hydrogen evolution reaction,Zn corrosion and passivation,and Zn dendrite formation on the anode.Despite numerous strategies to alleviate these side reactions have been demonstrated,they can only provide limited performance improvement from a single aspect.Herein,a triple-functional additive with trace amounts,ammonium hydroxide,was demonstrated to comprehensively protect zinc anodes.The results show that the shift of electrolyte pH from 4.1 to 5.2 lowers the HER potential and encourages the in situ formation of a uniform ZHS-based solid electrolyte interphase on Zn anodes.Moreover,cationic NH^(4+)can preferentially adsorb on the Zn anode surface to shield the“tip effect”and homogenize the electric field.Benefitting from this comprehensive protection,dendrite-free Zn deposition and highly reversible Zn plating/stripping behaviors were realized.Besides,improved electrochemical performances can also be achieved in Zn//MnO_(2)full cells by taking the advantages of this triple-functional additive.This work provides a new strategy for stabilizing Zn anodes from a comprehensive perspective.Ruwei Chen Wei Zhang Quanbo Huang Chaohong Guan Wei Zong Yuhang Dai Zijuan Du Zhenyu Zhang Jianwei Li Fei Guo Xuan Gao Haobo Dong Jiexin Zhu Xiaohui Wang Guanjie He 2023Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,6:2

15Numerical simulation of the Kuroshio intrusion into the South China Sea by a passive tracer显示文摘Owing to lack of observational data and accurate definition,it is difficult to distinguish the Kuroshio intrusion water from the Pacific Ocean into the South China Sea(SCS).By using a passive tracer to identify the Kuroshio water based on an observation-validated three-dimensional numerical model MITgcm,the spatio-temporal variation of the Kuroshio intrusion water into the SCS has been investigated.Our result shows the Kuroshio intrusion is of distinct seasonal variation in both horizontal and vertical directions.In winter,the intruding Kuroshio water reaches the farthest,almost occupying the area from 18°N to 23°N and 114°E to 121°E,with a small branch flowing towards the Taiwan Strait.The intrusion region of the Kuroshio water decreases with depth gradually.However,in summer,the Kuroshio water is confined to the east of 118°E without any branch reaching the Taiwan Strait;meanwhile the intrusion region of the Kuroshio water increases from the surface to the depth about 205 m,then it decreases with depth.The estimated annual mean of Kuroshio Intrusion Transport(KIT) via the Luzon Strait is westward to the SCS in an amount of –3.86×106 m3/s,which is larger than the annual mean of Luzon Strait Transport(LST) of –3.15×106 m3/s.The KIT above 250 m accounts for 60%–80% of the LST throughout the entire water column.By analyzing interannual variation of the Kuroshio intrusion from the year 2003 to 2012,we find that the Kuroshio branch flowing into the Taiwan Strait is the weaker in winter of La Ni?a years than those in El Ni?o and normal years,which may be attributed to the wind stress curl off the southeast China then.Furthermore,the KIT correlates the Ni?o 3.4 index from 2003 to 2012 with a correlation coefficient of 0.41,which is lower than that of the LST with the Ni?o 3.4 index,i.e.,0.78.LIU Tongya XU Jiexin HE Yinghui LüHaibin YAO Yuan CAI Shuqun 2016Acta Oceanologica Sinica2016,35,9:2
16Fabrication of Tβ4-Exosome-releasing artificial stem cells for myocardial infarction therapy by improving coronary collateralization显示文摘Currently,stem cell transplantations in cardiac repair are limited owing to disadvantages,such as immunological rejection and poor cell viability.Although direct injection of exosomes can have a curative effect similar to that of stem cell transplantation,high clearance hinders its application in clinical practice.Previous reports suggested that induction of coronary collateralization can be a desired method of adjunctive therapy for someone who had missed the optimal operation time to attenuate myocardial ischemia.In this study,to mimic the paracrine and biological activity of stem cells,we developed artificial stem cells that can continuously release Tβ4-exosomes(Tβ4-ASCs)by encapsulating specific exosomes within microspheres using microfluidics technology.The results show that Tβ4-ASCs can greatly promote coronary collateralization in the periphery of the myocardial infarcted area,and its therapeutic effect is superior to that of directly injecting the exosomes.In addition,to better understand how it works,we demonstrated that the Tβ4-ASC-derived exosomes can enhance the angiogenic capacity of coronary endothelial cells(CAECs)via the miR-17-5p/PHD3/Hif-1αpathway.In brief,as artificial stem cells,Tβ4-ASCs can constantly release functional exosomes and stimulate the formation of collateral circulation after myocardial infarction,providing a feasible and alternative method for clinical revascularization.Peier Chen Xiaodong Ning Weirun Li Yuxuan Pan Ling Wang Hekai Li Xianglin Fan Jiexin Zhang Tiantian Luo Yaobin Wu Caiwen Ou Minsheng Chen 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,8:2
