| 1 | Simulation and assessment of sludge concentration and rheology in the process of waste activated sludge treatment显示文摘The process of using flat-sheet membrane for simultaneous sludge thickening and digestion (MSTD) was employed. The variations of sludge concentration and rheology were characterized and simulated. Based on mass balance analysis, mathematical models were developed and successfully used to predict and evaluate the variations of sludge concentration and the digestion effciency in the MSTD process. The apparent viscosity of sludge could be modeled as functions of mixed liquor suspended solids and shear rates. The sludge in the MSTD process showed both shear-thinning and viscoplastic behaviour, and under various shear rates different rheological models could be chosen to predict their flow behaviour. | 2 | Eutrophication status and control strategy of Taihu Lake显示文摘The water quality and eutrophication status of Taihu Lake in recent years are presented and the pollution trends are analyzed.It is shown that because of unreasonable industrial structures,pollution discharge per GDP is high within the Taihu basin,and the pollution discharge from point and non-point sources exceed the basin’s environmental carrying capacity.Especially,excessive pollutants containing nitrogen and phosphorus are being discharged.Moreover,eutrophication may also result from internal pollution sources such as the release of nutrient elements from sediment.All these factors have resulted in the water quality deterioration of Taihu Lake.To solve this environmental problem,possible control strategies are summarized,including the control of internal pollution sources and inflow-river pollution,ecological restoration and reconstruction of the degraded lakeside zone ecosystem,clean water diversion,dredging,and manual algae removal. | Limin ZHANG Minfang XIA Lei ZHANG Chun WANG Jilai LU | 2008 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2008,2,3: | 2 |
| 3 | Application of thermal spray and surface treatment techniques in hot-dip galvanizing line pot hardware显示文摘The failure of zinc pot hardware in continuous hot-dip galvanizing lines( CGLs) is due to zinc corrosion,abrasion,and dross build-up. Enhancing the life of pot hardware will not only upgrade the quality of the sheet products but also will increase the efficiency of CGLs,with decreasing cost and increasing energy savings. This paper introduces the current research and development for thermal spray coatings for pot rolls,sleeves,and bushings,and analyses the thermal spray and surface treatment technique details of dross adhesion prevention. | 5 | Molecular mechanism of lycopene cyclases regulating carotenoids ratio in different branches during tea leaf and flower development显示文摘Carotenoids are essential components in tea quality, contributing to leaf color and aroma. However, little information about carotenoids in different tea cultivars and their biosynthesis regulation mechanism during leaf development is known. Here we analyzed carotenoids by HPLC in the buds and leaves of 113 tea cultivars harvested on the same day. By profile clustering, carotenoids were divided into five groups. Same group cultivars displayed divergence in the total content of carotenoids but a similar molar ratio. To figure out the molecular mechanisms of this phenomenon, we further characterized all functional lycopene cyclases, which are the branch point of the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway. Two β-lycopene cyclases(CsLCYB1 and CsLCYB2) and one ε-lycopene cyclase(CsLCYE1) were cloned. Subcellular localization analysis showed that all cloned CsLCYs were localized in plastids. Enzyme activity assays in E. coli indicated both CsLCYBs catalyzed lycopene into β-carotene, and CsLCYE1 produced δ-carotene and ε-carotene. We found CsLCYB1 and CsLCYE1 predominantly expressed in leaf, while CsLCYB2was mainly expressed during flowering stages. Suppression by antisense oligonucleotides reduced CsLCYB1 and CsLCYE1 transcripts and led to reduction of both β,β-branch and β,ε-branch carotenoids in leaf. The expression levels of CsLCYB1 showed a significant positive correlation withβ,β-branch carotenoids in leaf. Our study provides carotenoid profiles of different tea cultivars, which can assist tea producers in selecting cultivars of interest. These sheets must meet very high surface quality requirements. The surface treatment of line rolls is known to have a great impact on strip quality. To prevent dusts such as zinc ash from pressing into the strip surface,we used a composite thermal spray surface treatment technique to treat rolls. The successfully developed tungsten carbide( WC) + Ni-P composite plating technology improved the quality of the tungsten carbide thermally sprayed WC roll surface. | 7 | Photolysis kinetics and influencing factors of bisphenol S in aqueous solutions显示文摘The photodegradation of bisphenol S (BPS) in aqueous solutions was studied under different conditions. Photolysis and kinetics were investigated, as were the photolysis mechanism and the influences of initial pH value, light source, and environmental substances in water. The results showed that the photolysis of BPS occurred under UV light, and the rate increased with light source intensity. The photolysis of 5.0-50.0 mg/L BPS in water followed first-order kinetics: the rate was γ = 0.0161CBPS under a 40-W UV-lamp, and the degradation half-life was 43.1 min. Due to its absorption of light, direct photolysis of BPS was a predominant pathway for BPS but was not obviously affected by reactive oxygen species. The results confirmed that the photolysis rates of BPS in alkaline water solution were faster than those in acidic and neutral water solution because of the ionization of BPS.
