| 1 | Enhancing mixing of particles by baffies in a rotating drum mixer显示文摘Baffies with shape of '–'(single baffle) ,'+'(cross-baffles with four arms) and ''(baffles with 6 arms) are used to enhance the mixing of particles in a rotating drum mixer. A micro-dynamics study of mixing and segregation of a bi-disperse system of two particle sizes in the rotating drum with these three kinds of baffles is carried out using the discrete element method(DEM) . The effect of the baffles on mixing,and the mechanisms of mixing enhancement by the baffles are discussed and analyzed. Simulation results show that in an unbaffled drum mixer,particle convection,particle diffusion,and size segregation of bi-disperse particles,all play important roles in the mixing process;whereas size segregation will be largely restrained when the drum mixer has a baffle,regardless of its shape,and the degree of mixing is higher than that in an unbaffled drum mixer. The different mixing characteristics for '–' shaped baffle,'+' baffle,and '' baffle are revealed by the simulation results. | 3 | Immobilization of TiO_2 nanoparticles on activated carbon fiber and its photodegradation performance for organic pollutants显示文摘The immobilization of titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) on activated carbon fiber (ACF), (TiO 2 /ACF), was accomplished by sol–gel-adsorption method followed by calcination at temperatures varying from 300 to 600 °C in an argon atmosphere. The material properties were determined by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and nitrogen adsorption. The photodegradation behavior of TiO 2 /ACF was investigated in aqueous solutions using phenol and methyl orange (MO) as target pollutants. The effects of calcination temperature, photocatalyst dosage, initial solution pH and radiation time on the degradation of organic pollutants were studied. It was found that organic pollutants could be removed rapidly from water by the TiO 2 /ACF photocatalyst and the sample calcined at 500 °C exhibited the highest removal efficiency. Kinetics analysis showed that the photocatalytic degradation reaction can be described by a first-order rate equation. In addition, the possibility of cyclic usage of the photocatalyst was also confirmed. Moreover, TiO 2 is tightly bound to ACF and can be easily handled and recovered from water. | 4 | Analysis of spatial distribution and multi-year trend of the remotely sensed soil moisture on the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Long-term highly accurate surface soil moisture data of TP(Tibetan Plateau)are important to the research of Asian monsoon and global atmospheric circulation.However,due to the sparse in-situ networks,the lack of soil moisture observations has seriously hindered the progress of climate change researches of TP.Based on the Dual-Channel soil moisture retrieval algorithm and the satellite observation data of AMSR-E(Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for EOS),we have produced the surface soil moisture data of TP from 2003 to 2010 and analyzed the seasonal characteristic of the soil moisture spatial distribution and its multi-year changing trend in area of TP.Compared to the in-situ observations,the accuracy of the soil moisture retrieved by the proposed algorithm is evaluated.The evaluation result shows that the new soil moisture product has a better accuracy in the TP region than the official product of AMSR-E.The spatial distribution of the annual mean values of soil moisture and the seasonal variations of the monthly-averaged soil moisture are analyzed.The results show that the soil moisture variations in space and time are consistent with the precipitation distribution and the water vapor transmission path in TP.Based on the new soil moisture product,we also analyzed the spatial distribution of the changing trend of multi-year soil moisture in TP.From the comparisons with the precipitation changing trend obtained from the meteorological observation sites in TP,we found that the spatial pattern of the changing trend of soil moisture coincides with the precipitation as a whole. | LIU Qiang DU JinYang SHI JianCheng JIANG LingMei | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,12: | 13 |

This paper deals with liquid bridge force between either two unequal-sized spherical particles or a sphere and a flat plate under conditions where gravitational effect arising from bridge distortion is negligible. In order to calculate the force of the liquid bridge efflciently and accurately, expressions of liquid conflguration and liquid bridge force were derived by building a mechanical model, which assumes the liquid bridge to be circular in shape between either two unequal-sized spheres or a sphere and a plane. | 8 | Single-shot real-time femtosecond imaging of temporal focusing显示文摘While the concept of focusing usually applies to the spatial domain,it is equally applicable to the time domain.Realtime imaging of temporal focusing of single ultrashort laser pulses is of great significance in exploring the physics of the space–time duality and finding diverse applications.The drastic changes in the width and intensity of an ultrashort laser pulse during temporal focusing impose a requirement for femtosecond-level exposure to capture the instantaneous light patterns generated in this exquisite phenomenon.Thus far,established ultrafast imaging techniques either struggle to reach the desired exposure time or require repeatable measurements.We have developed single-shot 10-trillion-frame-per-second compressed ultrafast photography(T-CUP),which passively captures dynamic events with 100-fs frame intervals in a single camera exposure.The synergy between compressed sensing and the Radon transformation empowers T-CUP to significantly reduce the number of projections needed for reconstructing a high-quality three-dimensional spatiotemporal datacube.As the only currently available real-time,passive imaging modality with a femtosecond exposure time,T-CUP was used to record the first-ever movie of nonrepeatable temporal focusing of a single ultrashort laser pulse in a dynamic scattering medium.T-CUP’s unprecedented ability to clearly reveal the complex evolution in the shape,intensity,and width of a temporally focused pulse in a single measurement paves the way for single-shot characterization of ultrashort pulses,experimental investigation of nonlinear light-matter interactions,and real-time wavefront engineering for deep-tissue light focusing. | Jinyang Liang Liren Zhu Lihong V.Wang | 2018 | Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1: | 11 |

| 10 | Chloride ion transport performance in slag mortar under fatigue loading显示文摘The transport performance of chloride ion in slag cement mortar was investigated experimentally. In the self-designed experiment, fatigue loading was coupled simultaneously with ion transportation process, the diffusion law of chloride ion was obtained by titration and the AE (acoustic emission) technique was employed to detect the real-time damage distribution in the mortar specimen. The results for fatigue stress levels of 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 and slag contents of 0, 10%, 30% and 50% showed that fatigue loading accelerated the diffusion of chloride ion in mortar and the acceleration effect increased with the increase in stress levels. Slag addition was found to improve anti-chloride ion erosion performance effectively with the best substitution level at 30%, because the inhibition effect of slag on chloride ion diffusion diminished when the slag content exceeded 30%. | 12 | Enhanced high-temperature performance of Li-rich layered oxide via surface heterophase coating显示文摘Li-rich layered oxides have become one of the most concerned cathode materials for high-energy lithiumion batteries, but they still suffer from poor cycling stability and detrimental voltage decay, especially at elevated temperature. Herein, we proposed a surface heterophase coating engineering based on amorphous/crystalline Li3 PO4 to address these issues for Li-rich layered oxides via a facile wet chemical method. The heterophase coating layer combines the advantages of physical barrier effect achieved by amorphous Li3 PO4 with facilitated Li+diffusion stemmed from crystalline Li3 PO4. Consequently, the modified Li(1.2) Ni(0.2) Mn(0.6) O2 delivers higher initial coulombic efficiency of 92% with enhanced cycling stability at 55 °C(192.9 mAh/g after 100 cycles at 1 C). More importantly, the intrinsic voltage decay has been inhibited as well, i.e. the average potential drop per cycle decreases from 5.96 mV to 2.99 mV. | 13 | An improved dynamic model for a silicone material beam with large deformation显示文摘Dynamic modeling for incompressible hyperelastic materials with large deformation is an important issue in biomimetic applications. The previously proposed lower-order fully parameterized absolute nodal coordinate formulation(ANCF) beam element employs cubic interpolation in the longitudinal direction and linear interpolation in the transverse direction, whereas it cannot accurately describe the large bending deformation. On this account, a novel modeling method for studying the dynamic behavior of nonlinear materials is proposed in this paper. In this formulation, a higher-order beam element characterized by quadratic interpolation in the transverse directions is used in this investigation. Based on the Yeoh model and volumetric energy penalty function, the nonlinear elastic force matrices are derived within the ANCF framework. The feasibility and availability of the Yeoh model are verified through static experiment of nonlinear incompressible materials. Furthermore,dynamic simulation of a silicone cantilever beam under the gravity force is implemented to validate the superiority of the higher-order beam element. The simulation results obtained based on the Yeoh model by employing three different ANCF beam elements are compared with the result achieved from a commercial finite element package as the reference result. It is found that the results acquired utilizing a higher-order beam element are in good agreement with the reference results,while the results obtained using a lower-order beam element are different from the reference results. In addition, the stiffening problem caused by volumetric locking can be resolved effectively by applying a higher-order beam element. | 14 | Oxymatrine reduces neuroinflammation in rat brain A signaling pathway显示文摘Cerebral neuroinflammation models were established by injecting 10 μg lipopolysaccharide into the hippocampus of male Sprague-Dawley rats. The rats were treated with an intraperitoneal injection of 120, 90, or 60 mg/kg oxymatrine daily for three days prior to the lipopolysaccharide injection. Twenty-four hours after model induction, the hippocampus was analyzed by real-time quantitative PCR, and the cerebral cortex was analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and western blot assay. The results of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and the real-time quantitative PCR showed that the secretion and mRNA expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α were significantly decreased in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex of model rats treated with oxymatrine. Western blot assay and real-time quantitative PCR analysis indicated that toll-like receptor 4 mRNA and protein expression were significantly decreased in the groups receiving different doses of oxymatrine. Additionally, 120 and 90 mg/kg oxymatrine were shown to reduce protein levels of nuclear factor-κB p65 in the nucleus and of phosphorylated IκBα in the cytoplasm of brain cells, as detected by western blot assay. Simulation results show that particle interaction is responsible for axial segregation,the patterns of which are influenced by the end wall effect. Axial segregation patterns transform under competing influences of the end walls and the particle interaction forces. The two influential factors vary with various rotational speeds and end wall friction levels. | 18 | Rarefaction and Temperature Gradient Effect on the Performance of the Knudsen Pump显示文摘The prediction of the multiscale flow in the Knudsen pump is important for understanding its pumping mechanism.However,there is little research on such interesting multiscale phenomenon in the Knudsen pumps.In this paper,a novel numerical analysis method combining the direct simulation Monte Carlo(DSMC) method with the smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) method is presented for simulating the multiscale flow,which is often encountered in the application of the Knudsen pumps.Validity and accuracy of the new method are given by comparing its results with that of the previous research.Using the coupled multiscale approach,the rarefaction and the temperature drive are studied,which are two main factors on the performance of the Knudsen pumps.To investigate the effect of rarefaction on the performance of the Knudsen pump,various pump operation pressures are compared.The flow characteristics and pumping ability at different rarefaction are analyzed,and the phenomenon of the multiscale flow is also discussed.Several cases with different linear or nonlinear temperature gradients are set to investigate the effect of temperature gradient on the performance of the Knudsen pump.The flow characteristics of the Knudsen pump such as the velocity,pressure increase,and the mass flowrate are presented.A unique phenomenon,the reverse transpiration effect caused by the nonlinear temperature gradient is studied,and the reason of the significant pressure increase in the pump channel is also analyzed.Since the multiscale gas flow is widely encountered in the microflow systems,the above method and its results can also be greatly beneficial and provide significant insights for the design of the MEMS devices. | YE Jianjun YANG Jian ZHENG Jinyang DING Xianting WONG Ieong LI Weizhong CHEN Cong | 2012 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2012,25,4: | 6 |

| 20 | Nondestructive diagnostics of soluble sugar,total nitrogen and their ratio of tomato leaves in greenhouse by polarized spectra-hyperspectral data fusion显示文摘Polarized spectra-hyperspectral data fusion technique was used to estimate the soluble sugar(SS),total nitrogen(N),and their ratio(SS/N),of greenhouse tomato leaves.Fresh tomato leaves of five different growth stages(seedling,flowering,initial fruiting,mid-fruiting and picking stage)and five different nitrogen treatments(severe stress 25%,moderate stress 50%,mild stress 75%,normal 100%,and excess 150%)at every stage were collected for spectra acquisition and SS and N determination.Polarized reflectance spectra were acquired with a polarization reflectance spectrum spectro-goniophotometer system and four polarization degree features were extracted.Hyperspectral data were collected with a hyperspectral imaging system and four reflectance spectrum features and eight image features were extracted.Initially,models were built with polarization degree features,image features,and spectral features respectively.Linear and nonlinear fusion methods were comparatively used for modeling based on normalized data of the three sources.The results suggest that the performances of SS/N models are better than those of N and SS models,and the prediction capability of the Support Vector Machine(SVM)models of N and SS/N are superior to those obtained with single kind feature.This work indicates that the polarized spectrum-hyperspectral multidimensional information detecting method can feasibly judge the tomato nutrient stress conditions.Multi-features data fusion analysis technique can enhance the prediction accuracy of spectral diagnostics technology in precision agriculture. | Wenjing Zhu Jinyang Li Lin Li Aichen Wang Xinhua Wei Hanping Mao | 2020 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2020,13,2: | 5 |
