1Impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on urban park visitation:a global analysis显示文摘The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in over 33 million confirmed cases and over 1 million deaths globally,as of 1 October 2020.During the lockdown and restrictions placed on public activities and gatherings,green spaces have become one of the only sources of resilience amidst the coronavirus pandemic,in part because of their positive effects on psychological,physical and social cohesion and spiritual wellness.This study analyzes the impacts of COVID-19 and government response policies to the pandemic on park visitation at global,regional and national levels and assesses the importance of parks during this global pandemic.The data we collected primarily from Google’s Community Mobility Reports and the Oxford Coronavirus Government Response Tracker.The results for most countries included in the analysis show that park visitation has increased since February 16th,2020 compared to visitor numbers prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.Restrictions on social gathering,movement,and the closure of workplace and indoor recreational places,are correlated with more visits to parks.Stay-at-home restrictions and government stringency index are negatively associated with park visits at a global scale.Demand from residents for parks and outdoor green spaces has increased since the outbreak began,and highlights the important role and benefits provided by parks,especially urban and community parks,under the COVID-19 pandemic.We provide recommendations for park managers and other decision-makers in terms of park management and planning during health crises,as well as for park design and development.In particular,parks could be utilized during pandemics to increase the physical and mental health and social well-being of individuals.Dehui(Christina)Geng John Innes Wanli Wu Guangyu Wang 2021Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,2:3
2Comparison of six generalized linear models for occurrence of lightning-induced fires in northern Daxing'an Mountains,China显示文摘The occurrence of lightning-induced forest fires during a time period is count data featuring over-dispersion(i.e., variance is larger than mean) and a high frequency of zero counts. In this study, we used six generalized linear models to examine the relationship between the occurrence of lightning-induced forest fires and meteorological factors in the Northern Daxing'an Mountains of China. The six models included Poisson, negative binomial(NB), zeroinflated Poisson(ZIP), zero-inflated negative binomial(ZINB), Poisson hurdle(PH), and negative binomial hurdle(NBH) models. Goodness-of-fit was compared and tested among the six models using Akaike information criterion(AIC), sum of squared errors, likelihood ratio test, and Vuong test. The predictive performance of the models wasassessed and compared using independent validation data by the data-splitting method. Based on the model AIC, the ZINB model best fitted the fire occurrence data, followed by(in order of smaller AIC) NBH, ZIP, NB, PH, and Poisson models. The ZINB model was also best for predicting either zero counts or positive counts(C1). The two Hurdle models(PH and NBH) were better than ZIP,Poisson, and NB models for predicting positive counts, but worse than these three models for predicting zero counts.Thus, the ZINB model was the first choice for modeling the occurrence of lightning-induced forest fires in this study,which implied that the excessive zero counts of lightninginduced fires came from both structure and sampling zeros.Futao Guo Guangyu Wang John L. 3Gamma generalized linear model to investigate the effects of climate variables on the area burned by forest fire in northeast China显示文摘The purpose of this study was to determine a suitable model for investigating the effects of climate factors on the area burned by forest fire in the Tahe forest region, Daxing'an Mountains, in northeast China. The response variables were the area burned by lightningcaused fire, human-caused fire, and total burned area. The predictor variables were nine climate variables collected from the local weather station. Three regression models were utilized, including multiple linear regression, loglinear model(log-transformation on both response and predictor variables), and gamma-generalized linear model.The goodness-of-fit of the models were compared based on model fitting statistics such as R^2, AIC, and RMSE. The results revealed that the gamma-generalized linear model was generally superior to both multiple linear regression model and log-linear model for fitting the fire data. Further,the best models were selected based on the criteria that the climate variables were statistically significant at a = 0.05.The gamma best models indicated that maximum wind speed, precipitation, and days that rainfall greater than0.1 mm had significant impacts on the area burned by the lightning-caused fire, while the mean temperature and minimum relative humidity were the main drivers of the burned area caused by human activities. Overall, the total burned area by forest fire was significantly influenced by days that rainfall greater than 0.1 mm and minimum relative humidity, indicating that the moisture condition of forest stands determine the burned area by forest fire.Futao Guo Guangyu Wang John L. 9Climate change impacts and forest adaptation in the Asia–Pacific region: from regional experts' perspectives显示文摘Expert opinions have been used in a variety of fields to identify relevant issues and courses of action. This study surveys experts in forestry and climate change from the Asia–Pacific region to gauge their perspectives on the impacts of climate change and on the challenges faced by forest adaptation in the region, and explores recommendations and initiatives for adapting forests to climate change. There was consensus regarding the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems and on economic sectors such as agriculture and forestry. Respondents also indicated a lack of public awareness and policy and legislation as challenges to addressing climate change. However, the results indicate differences in opinion between regions on the negative impacts of climate change and in satisfaction with actions taken to address climate change,highlighting the need for locally specific policies and research. The study presents specific recommendations to address issues of most concern, based on subregion and professional affiliation throughout the Asia–Pacific region.The results can be used to improve policy and forest management throughout the region. This research will also provide valuable suggestions on how to apply research findings and management recommendations outside of the AP region. 11Utilizing hybrid faradaic mechanism via catalytic and surface interactions for high-performance flexible energy storage system显示文摘Improving the capacitance and energy density is a significant challenge while developing practical and flexible energy storage system(ESS).Redox mediators(RMs),as redox-active electrolyte additives,can provide additional energy storing capability via electrochemical faradaic contribution on electrodes for high-performance flexible ESSs.Particularly,determining effective material combinations between electrodes and RMs is essential for maximizing surface faradaic redox reactions for energy-storage performance.In this study,an electrode-RM system comprising heterostructured hybrid(carbon fiber(CF)/MnO_(2)) faradaic electrodes and iodine RMs(I-RMs) in a redox-active electrolyte is investigated.The CF/MnO_(2)with the 1-RMs(CF/MnO_(2)-I) induces dominant catalytic faradaic interaction with the I-RMs,significantly enhancing the surface faradaic kinetics and increasing the overall energy-storage performance.The CF/MnO_(2)-I ESSs show a 12.6-fold(or higher) increased volumetric energy density of 793.81 mWh L^(-1)at a current of 10 μA relative to ESSs using CF/MnO_(2)without I-RMs(CF/MnO_(2)).Moreover,the CF/MnO_(2)-I retains 93.1% of its initial capacitance after 10,000 cycles,validating the excellent cyclability.Finally,the flexibility of the ESSs is tested at different bending angles(180° to 0°),demonstrating its feasibility for flexible and high-wear environments.Therefore,CF/MnO_(2)electrodes present a practical material combination for high-performance flexible energy-storage devices owing to the catalytic faradaic interaction with I-RMs.Dong-Gyu Lee Hyeonggeun Choi Yeonsu Park Min-Cheol Kim Jong Bae Park Suok Lee Younghyun Cho Wook Ahn A-Rang Jang Jung Inn Sohn John Hong Young-Woo Lee 2023Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,8:0
