2Preliminary investigation on the antibacterial activity of mango(Mangifera indica L:Anacardiaceae) seed kernel显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antibacterial activity of the methanolic extract of mango(Mangifera indica L) seed kernel.Methods:Chokanan mango seed kernel and seed kernels from assorted mango varieties were collected,cleaned,dried and powered.Crude methanolic extracts of mango seed kernel were analyzed for the phytochemical constituents.The free radical scavenging activity was determined by 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) assay.Antibacterial activity was evaluated by disc diffusion assay with three medically important bacterial pathogens such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus)(MRSA),Escherichia coli(E.coli) and Vibrio vulnificus(V.vulnificus).Results:Qualitative phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of important phytochemical compounds such as glycosides,saponins,flavanoids, tannins and alkaloids.There was no significant difference in the phytochemical content between the single and assorted mango seed kernels.However,the free radical scavenging study indicated that the assorted mango kernels showed slighdy higher activity than the single species(P<0.05). The crude methanolic extract of mango seed kernel at a concentration of 100 mg/mL is found to have potential antimicrobial activity against MRSA and E.coli compared to V.vulnificus. 3Hypoxia increases adipogenesis and affects adipocytokine production in orbital fibroblasts-a possible explanation of the link between smoking and Graves' ophthalmopathy显示文摘AIM:To assess the effects of hypoxia on human orbital fibroblasts(OF)on adipogenesis and adipocytokine production.METHODS:Human OF were derived from tissues obtained from patients with Graves'ophthalmopathy(GO)and from patients without known thyroid diseases undergoing blepharoplasty.The OF were cultured separately under normoxic and hypoxic conditions.Comparisons of adipocytokine concentrations using multiplex ELISA and lipid accumulation in the cells using Oil Red O staining were subsequently performed.RESULTS:There was increased adipogenesis in OF from GO subject when exposed to hypoxic culture conditions.This was not observed in OF from normal controls.Hypoxia led to an increase in leptin and a decrease in MCP-1 secretion in OF cultures.CONCLUSION:Hypoxia induces adipogenesis in OF and may represent a mechanism by which smoking contributes to deterioration of GO.We also found novel changes to leptin and MCP-1 production in OF cultures exposed to hypoxia suggesting important roles of these cytokines in the disease process.Chiaw Ling Chng Oi Fah Lai Charmaine Sze-Min Chew Yu Pei Peh Stephanie Man-Chung Fook-Chong Lay Leng Seah Daphne Hsu-Chin Khoo 2014International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,3:10

5外源过氧化氢处理对采后荔枝褐变及活性氧代谢的影响显示文摘【目的】研究外源过氧化氢(H_(2)O_(2))处理对采后荔枝褐变及活性氧代谢的影响,为荔枝采后保鲜提供途径,以期提高果实的贮藏品质。【方法】以清水处理为对照(CK),采用不同浓度(1、5和10 mmol/L)的外源H_(2)O_(2)浸泡荔枝3 min,在4℃下冷藏放置,每隔3 d取样一次,进行失重率、褐变指数、丙二醛(MDA)含量、细胞膜透性、内源H_(2)O_(2)含量、超氧阴离子(O_(2)-)产生速率、多酚氧化酶(PPO)活性和超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)活性等生理指标的测定。【结果】不同浓度的外源H_(2)O_(2)处理对采后荔枝会产生不同的贮藏效果。以5 mmol/L外源H_(2)O_(2)处理保鲜效果最佳,明显降低果皮中MDA含量、内源H_(2)O_(2)含量和PPO活性,并提高SOD活性,减缓O_(2)-产生速率。至贮藏末期(12 d),经5 mmol/L外源H_(2)O_(2)处理的采后荔枝SOD活性较CK显著提高31.41%(P<0.05,下同),MDA含量、PPO活性、O_(2)-产生速率和内源H_(2)O_(2)含量较CK分别降低44.72%、38.72%、22.63%和13.75%,其失重率、褐变指数和相对电导率最低。1 mmol/L外源H_(2)O_(2)处理效果稍逊于5 mmol/L外源H_(2)O_(2)处理,而经10 mmol/L外源H_(2)O_(2)处理显著提高采后荔枝的MDA和内源H_(2)O_(2)含量,加速采后果实衰老。【结论】采用5 mmol/L外源H_(2)O_(2)处理可调节采后荔枝的活性氧代谢而延缓其衰老进程,为H_(2)O_(2)应用于采后荔枝保鲜提供理论支撑。潘家丽 覃子倚 李静 Khoo Hock Eng 董新红 2022南方农业学报2022,53,5:6
6Spark-generated bubble collapse near or inside a circular aperture and the ensuing vortex ring and droplet formation显示文摘This paper aims to study the oscillation of a sparkgenerated submerged bubble located near or inside a circular aperture made in a flat plate using high-speed visualization technique. In the case of a bubble oscillating near an aperture the initial free surface of the water was set at the bottom surface of the plate. The efects of aperture size and bubblefree surface distance on the bubble behavior as well as on the ensuing droplet dynamics are investigated. It was found that the direction of the bubble reentrant jet was towards the aperture or away from it respectively when the normalized aperture size was smaller or greater than a certain critical value. In addition, a toroidal vortex ring was observed to form, which rotated inwards as it moved away from the aperture. It was also found that if the bubble was incepted at a distance sufciently away from a supercritical size aperture a single droplet could be produced. In the case of a bubble initiated in the middle of a circular aperture submerged just beneath the water free surface, the bubble was found to take the shape of an ellipsoid during its expansion. 8经皮置入式腰椎棘突间撑开器的生物力学测试显示文摘目的:评价经皮置入式腰椎棘突间撑开器对置入节段及其邻近节段活动度的影响。方法:选取6具新鲜人体腰椎标本(L1~L5),剔除附着肌肉,保留各韧带及骨骼,将标本的头尾端固定在MTS生物力学试验测试机上,对标本施加400N的轴向压力,然后以0.5°/s速度施加六个方向(前屈/后伸、左右侧屈、左右轴向旋转)±7.5Nm的力矩,测量L2/3、L3/4节段各个运动方向的运动范围(ROM,完整状态组);于L3/4节段置入Bullet棘突间撑开器,按照同样方法测试标本各个方向的活动度(置入撑开器组)。测试后以2Hz频率循环加载,屈伸20 000次、侧屈15 000次、旋转5 000次,摄X线片观察内置物位置及棘突有无骨折,肉眼观察内置物有无变形和破损。结果:L3/4节段完整状态下前屈和后伸的平均ROM值分别为4.62°±2.26°和4.07°±1.92°,置入撑开器后前屈和后伸的平均ROM值分别为3.87°±2.06°和2.57°±2.06°,两组比较差异有统计学意义(P<0.05);两组侧方屈曲和旋转的平均ROM值差异均无统计学意义。在完整状态和置入撑开器后L2/3节段各个运动方向的平均ROM值差异均无统计学意义。循环加载至预定加载次数后X线片示撑开器无移位,棘突无骨折;未发现棘突撑开装置变形或出现裂缝。结论:经皮置入式棘突间撑开器能够使置入节段前屈和后伸的活动度明显减少,但轴向旋转和侧向弯曲不受影响,且对邻近上位节段的活动度无影响。张加芳 郑召民 张奎渤 刘辉 吕维加 胡勇 Larry Khoo 2011中国脊柱脊髓杂志2011,21,2:5
9Soil Bulk Density Estimation Methods: A Review显示文摘Measurement of soil bulk density is important for understanding the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil. Accurate and rapid soil bulk density measurement techniques play a significant role in agricultural experimental research. This review is a comprehensive summary of existing measurement methods and evaluates their advantages, disadvantages, potential sources of error,and directions for future development. These techniques can be broadly categorised as direct and indirect methods. Direct methods include core, clod, and excavation sampling, whereas indirect methods include the radiation and regression approaches. The core method is most widely used, but it is time consuming and difficult to use for sampling multiple soil depths. The size of the coring cylinder used, operator experience, sampling depth, and in-situ soil moisture content significantly affect its accuracy. The clod method is suitable for use with heavy clay soils, and its accuracy is dependent on equipment calibration, drying time, and operator experience, but the process is complicated and time consuming. Excavation techniques are most commonly used to evaluate the bulk density of forest soils, but have major limitations as they cannot be used in soils with large pores and their measurement accuracy is strongly influenced by soil texture and the type of analysis selected. The indirect methods appear to have greater accuracy than direct approaches, but have higher costs, are more complex, and require greater operator experience. One such approach uses gamma radiation, and its accuracy is strongly influenced by soil depth. Regression methods are economical as they can make indirect measurements, but these depend on good, quality data of soil texture and organic matter content and geographical and climatic properties. 10Single-center study comparing computed tomography colonography with conventional colonoscopy显示文摘AIM:To compare the results from computed tomography (CT) colonography with conventional colonoscopy in symptomatic patients referred for colonoscopy. METHODS: The study included 227 adult outpatients, mean age 60 years, with appropriate indications for colonoscopy. CT colonography and colonoscopy were performed on the same day in a metropolitan teaching hospital. Colonoscopists were initially blinded to the results of CT colonography but there was segmental unblinding during the procedure. The primary outcome measures were the sensitivity and specificity of CT colonography for the identification of polyps seen at colonoscopy (i.e. analysis by polyp). Secondary outcome measures included an analysis by patient, extracolonic findings at CT colonography, adverse events with both procedures and patient acceptance and preference. RESULTS: Twenty-five patients (11%) were excluded from the analysis because of incomplete colonoscopy or poor bowel preparation that affected either CT colonography, colonoscopy or both procedures. Polyps and masses (usually cancers) were detected at colonoscopy and CT colonography in 35% and 42% of patients, respectively. Of nine patients with a finaldiagnosis of cancer, eight (89%) were identified by CT colonography as masses (5) or polyps (3). For polyps analyzed according to polyp, the overall sensitivity of CT colonography was 50% (95% CI, 39%-61%) but this increased to 71% (95% CI, 52%-85%) for polyps ≥ 6 mm in size. Similarly, specificity for all polyps was 48% (95% CI, 39%-58%) increasing to 67% (95% CI, 56%-76%) for polyps ≥ 6 mm. Adverse events were uncommon but included one colonic perforation at colonoscopy. Patient acceptance was high for both procedures but preference favoured CT colonography. 12Simulations of Compressible Two-Medium Flow by Runge-Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin Methods with the Ghost Fluid Method显示文摘The original ghost fluid method (GFM) developed in [13] and the modifiedGFM (MGFM) in [26] have provided a simple and yet flexible way to treat twomediumflow problems. The original GFM and MGFM make the material interface'invisible' during computations and the calculations are carried out as for a singlemedium such that its extension to multi-dimensions becomes fairly straightforward.The Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) method for solving hyperbolic conservationlaws is a high order accurate finite element method employing the usefulfeatures from high resolution finite volume schemes, such as the exact or approximateRiemann solvers, TVD Runge-Kutta time discretizations, and limiters. 13去卵巢老年大鼠软骨退变与E_2、MMP-13、TNF-α的相关性显示文摘目的探讨去卵巢老年大鼠雌激素下降与软骨退变的相关性。方法 24只6月龄雌性SD大鼠按数字表法随机分为对照组、去卵巢组和去卵巢+跑步组各8只。对照组常规饲养,去卵巢组行双侧卵巢切除术,去卵巢+跑步组行双侧卵巢切除术合并疲劳训练。5周后处死,取左侧膝关节石蜡包埋,行HE染色、免疫组化分析、膝关节软骨Mankin评分,右侧膝关节抽取关节液检测TNF-α含量,取血清检测E_2含量。结果 (1)膝关节切片HE染色显示:与对照组比较,去卵巢组与去卵巢+跑步组膝关节软骨均出现缺损,其中去卵巢+跑步组缺损最重;(2)与对照组比较,去卵巢组和去卵巢+跑步组mankin评分、膝关节MMP-13表达、关节液TNF-α浓度均明显提高(P<0.01),血清E_2浓度明显降低(P<0.01),且以去卵巢+跑步组变化最为显著。结论老年大鼠雌激素的下降与软骨退变具有一定的相关性。KHOO YEW LEE 周逸 张俐 2018福建中医药2018,49,2:3

15Investigation of Turbulent Transition in Plane Couette Flows Using Energy Gradient Method显示文摘The energy gradient method has been proposed with the aim of better understanding the mechanism of flow transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow.In this method,it is demonstrated that the transition to turbulence depends on the relative magnitudes of the transverse gradient of the total mechanical energy which amplifies the disturbance and the energy loss from viscous friction which damps the disturbance,for given imposed disturbance.For a given flow geometry and fluid properties,when the maximum of the function K(a function standing for the ratio of the gradient of total mechanical energy in the transverse direction to the rate of energy loss due to viscous friction in the streamwise direction)in the flow field is larger than a certain critical value,it is expected that instability would occur for some initial disturbances.In this paper,using the energy gradient analysis,the equation for calculating the energy gradient function K for plane Couette flow is derived.The result indicates that K reaches the maximum at the moving walls.Thus,the fluid layer near the moving wall is the most dangerous position to generate initial oscillation at sufficient high Re for given same level of normalized perturbation in the domain.The critical value of K at turbulent transition,which is observed from experiments,is about 370 for plane Couette flow when two walls move in opposite directions(anti-symmetry).This value is about the same as that for plane Poiseuille flow and pipe Poiseuille flow(385-389).Therefore,it is concluded that the critical value of K at turbulent transition is about 370-389 for wall-bounded parallel shear flows which include both pressure(symmetrical case)and shear driven flows(anti-symmetrical case).Hua-Shu Dou Boo Cheong Khoo 2011Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics2011,3,2:3

20The Modified Ghost Fluid Method Applied to Fluid-Elastic Structure Interaction显示文摘In this work,the modified ghost fluid method is developed to deal with 2D compressible fluid interacting with elastic solid in an Euler-Lagrange coupled system.In applying the modified Ghost Fluid Method to treat the fluid-elastic solid coupling,the Navier equations for elastic solid are cast into a system similar to the Euler equations but in Lagrangian coordinates.Furthermore,to take into account the influence of material deformation and nonlinear wave interaction at the interface,an Euler-Lagrange Riemann problem is constructed and solved approximately along the normal direction of the interface to predict the interfacial status and then define the ghost fluid and ghost solid states.Numerical tests are presented to verify the resultant method.Tiegang Liu A.W.Chowdhury Boo Cheong Khoo 2011Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics2011,3,5:2
