| 1 | N6-Methyladenine DNA Methylation in Japonica and Indica Rice Genomes and Its Association with Gene Expression,Plant Development, and Stress Responses显示文摘N6-Methyladenine (6mA)DNA methylation has recently been implicated as a potential new epigenetic marker in eukaryotes,including the dioot modelArabidopsis thaliana.However,the conservation and divergence of 6mA distribution patterns and functions in plants remain elusive.Here we report high-quality 6mA methylomes at single-nucleotide resolution in rice based on substantially improved genome sequences of two rice cultivars,Nipponbare (Nip;Japonica)and 93-11 (Indica).Analysis of 6mA genomic distribution and its association with transcription suggest that 6mA distribution and function is rather conserved between rice and Arabidopsis.We found that 6mA levels are positively correlated with the expression of key stressrelated genes,which may be responsible for the difference in stress tolerance between Nip and 93-11. Moreover,we showed that mutations in DDM1 cause defects in plant growth and decreased 6mA level. | 2 | Evolution and variation of the Tsushima warm current during the late Quaternary: Evidence from planktonic foraminifera, oxygen and carbon isotopes显示文摘The evolution and variation history of the Tsushima warm current during the late Quaternary was reconstructed based on the quantitative census data of planktonic foraminiferal fauna, together with oxygen and carbon isotope records of mixed layer dweller G. ruber and thermocline dweller N. dutertrei in piston core CSH1 and core DGKS9603 collected separately from the Tsushima warm current and the Kuroshio dominated area. The result showed that the Tsushima warm current vanished in the lowstand period during 40―24 cal ka BP, while the Kuroshio still flowed across the Okinawa Trough, arousing strong upwelling in the northern Trough. Meanwhile, the influence of freshwater greatly increased in the northern Okinawa Trough, as the broad East China Sea continental shelf emerged. The freshwater reached its maximum during the last glacial maximum (LGM), when the upwelling obviously weakened for the lowest sea-level and the depression of the Kuroshio. The modern Tsushima warm current began its development since 16 cal ka BP, and the impact of the Kuroshio increased in the middle and north- ern Okinawa Trough synchronously during the deglaciation and gradually evolved as the main water source of the Tsushima current. The modern Tsushima current finally formed at about 8.5 cal ka BP, since then the circulation structure has been relatively stable. The water of the modern Tsushima cur- rent primarily came from the Kuroshio axis. A short-term wiggle of the current occurred at about 3 cal ka BP, probably for the influences from the enhancement of the winter monsoon and the depression of the Kuroshio. | 3 | Impacts of water release operations on algal blooms in a tributary bay of Three Gorges Reservoir显示文摘Water release operation is crucial for water quality in large reservoirs such as Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR),because it determines the hydrodynamics and hence the self-purification capability.As algal blooms were often observed in some tributary bays of TGR during the release periods,high frequency field observations were carried out in a typical eutrophic tributary bay(Xiangxi River) from February 9 to May 10,2009.In this paper we assess the hydrodynamic behaviour,density stratification,and trophic status in this bay,respectively using a series of observations for flow,physical,chemical and biological parameters.Then,we analyze the effects of reservoir release operations on algal blooms using correlation analysis method.An empirical prognosis is concluded for the likelihood of algal bloom occurrence as a function of daily fluctuation of water level(DFWL) and water temperature.Our results indicate that during the release period,the algal bloom occurrences are closely tied to the DFWL in that if the ratio of DFWL to total water depth ranges from -10×10-4 to 0,the possibility of algal blooms may reach up to 70%,and if the ratio is less than -10×10-4,then that risk can be significantly reduced to less than 10%.This paper finally suggests that a wave-type water release operation should be beneficial in reducing bloom frequencies in the tributary water bodies,which is helpful for TGR water quality management,especially for the water release operation optimization. | ZHENG TieGang MAO JingQiao DAI HuiChao LIU DeFu | 2011 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,6: | 12 |
| 4 | A broad deglacial δ^(13)C minimum event in planktonic foraminiferal records in the Okinawa Trough显示文摘The equatorial Pacific upwelling zone has been suspected of playing an important role in the global atmospheric CO2 changes associated with glacial-interglacial cycles. In order to assess the influencing scope of the surface water deglacial δ13C minimum in the tropical low-latitude Pacific, the core DGKS9603, collected from the middle Okinawa Trough, was examined for δ13C records of planktonic fo-raminifera N. dutertrei and G. ruber. The planktonic fo-raminiferal δ13C records show a clear decreasing event from 20 to 6 cal. kaBP., which is characterized by long duration of about 14 ka and amplitude shift of 0.4×10-3. Its minimum value occurred at 15.7 cal kaBP. The event shows fairly synchrony with the surface water deglacial δ13C minimum identified in the tropical Pacific and its marginal seas. | 9 | Sediment transport in the Luanhe River delta:grain size trend analysis显示文摘Sediment grain size in the deltaic environment of the Luanhe River(LR),Liaoning,China,contains sediment transport pathway information useful in elucidating the shoreline change and fluvialmarine interaction.In this study,we utilized numerical partitioning of the sedimentary components and geostatistical grain size trend analysis(GSTA)to define the sediment transport pattern in the Luanhe River delta(LRD)and interpolated the sediment transport pattern using content changes of end numbers(EM).EM1(the mean grain size 7.12Ф,fine silt),EM2(2.37Ф,fine sand),and EM3(1.27Ф,medium sand)components were identified by the numerical partitioning by GSTA.Kriging interpolation method was used to interpolate the parameters of the grain size for the regular grid,and the interpolation radius was 0.015 decimal degree.We chose 0.09 decimal degree as the characteristic distance for GSTA in the semivariogram model using the geostatistical method.The FB(-)case(finer,better sorted and more negatively skewed)was adopted in GSTA for its satisfaction in the Global Moran’s I test.The result of the GSTA shows that the sediments in the south barriers(SBs)were transported to the southwest of the study area.The sediments in the north,in the SE direction of sediment transport trend from the river mouth,indicated that the sediments in the north of the study area were transported from the LR to the northern beaches,and to the south and east of the study area.The sediment transport trend that simplified by GSTA as the FB(-)case was approved by the content changes of sedimentary components(i.e.EM1,EM2,and EM3).In addition,the turbulent jet diffusion pattern indicated that the coarse sediments(EM3)were delivered by LR during the flood season,and the EM2 and EM1 were from wave and tide,respectively. | YU Xiaoxiao LI Tiegang GU Dongqi FENG Aiping LIU Shihao LI Ping XU Guoqiang YAN Wenwen ZHANG Zhiwei ZHU Zhengtao | 2019 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2019,37,3: | 3 |

The sedimentation rates in the Okinawa Trough roughly range from 11 to 39cm/ka, and the average is 23.0 cm/ka. China’s continental matter is the main sediment source of the middle Okinawa Trough and hasimportant contribution to the northern and southern Okinawa Trough. The sedimentation rates during the marine oxygen isotope (MIS)2 are uniformly higher than those during MIS 1 in the northern and middle Okinawa Trough while they are on the contrary in thesouthern Okinawa Trough. | 11 | A quantitative reconstruction of the paleoenviornmental variations of the South Yellow Sea inner shelf based on benthic foraminiferal transfer functions显示文摘Transfer functions between the benthic foraminiferal fauna of seventy-one sediment surface-samples retrieved from the South Yellow Sea inner shelf and the environmental factors, including the summer bottom-water salinity(Ss), the summer bottom-water temperature(Ts) and the winter bottom-water temperature(Tw) have been developed utilizing weighted averaging partial least square regression(WA-PLS). Subsequently, the transfer functions have been applied to a late Holocene piston core SY01 from the South Yellow Sea inner shelf, established the variation curves of the Ss, Ts, and Tw during the last 3.9 cal. ka. The Ss and Ts showed a nearly synchronous trend to the published stalagmite δ18O curve from the Jiuxian Cave, meaning they could be used as reliable indicators for the summer monsoon. Similarly, the Tw could be used as an indicator for the winter monsoon for its synchronous change to the insensitive grain size variation of the core ZY-2 retrieved from the Central Yellow Sea mud area. | 20 | The evolution of the Kuroshio Current over the last 5 million years since the Pliocene: Evidence from planktonic foraminiferal faunas显示文摘Meridional heat transport of the western Pacific boundary current(the Kuroshio Current)is one of the key factors in global climate change.This current is important because it controls the temperature gradient between low latitudes and the North Pacific and so significantly influences mid-latitude atmosphere-ocean interactions.Here we reconstruct changes in hydrological conditions within the mid-latitude mainstream of the Kuroshio Current based on faunal analysis of planktonic foraminifera in core DSDP 296 from the Northwest Pacific Ocean.This approach enabled us to deduce evolutionary processes within the Kuroshio Current since the Pliocene.A total of 57 species in the coarser section(>150μm)were identified;results indicate that planktonic foraminiferal faunal evolution has mainly been characterized by three major stages,the first of which comprised mixed-layer warm-water species of Globigerinoides ruber which first appeared between 3.5 and 2.7 Ma and then gradually increased in content.Percentages of another warm-water species of G.conglobatus also gradually increased in number over this interval.Variations in warm-water species indicate a gradual rise in sea surface temperature(SST)and imply initiation of Kuroshio Current impact on the Northwest Pacific Ocean since at least 3.5 Ma.Secondly,over the period between 2.7 and 2.0 Ma,thermocline species of Globigerina calida,Neogloboquadrina humersa,Neogloboquadrina dutertrei,and Pulleniatina obliquiloculata started to appear in the section.This fauna was dominated by G.ruber as well as increasing G.conglobatus contents.These features imply a further rise in SST and its gradually enhanced influence on thermocline water,suggesting strengthening of the Kuroshio Current since 2.7 Ma.Thirdly,between 2.0 Ma and present,increasing contents of thermocline species(i.e.,G.calida,N.dutertrei and P.obliquiloculata)indicate a gradual rise in seawater temperature at this depth and also imply more intensive Kuroshio Current during this period.On the basis of comparative records from cores ODP 806 and DSDP292 from the low latitude Western Pacific,we propose that initiation of the impact of the Kuroshio Current in the Northwest Pacific and it subsequent stepwise intensifications since 3.5 Ma can be closely related to the closure and restriction of the Indonesian and Central American seaways as well as variations in the Western Pacific Warm Pool(WPWP)and equatorial Pacific region. | Jia WANG Fengming CHANG Tiegang LI Hanjie SUN Yikun CUI Tianhao LIU | 2020 | Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,11: | 1 |
