1Trending IC design directions in 2022显示文摘For the non-stop demands for a better and smarter society, the number of electronic devices keeps increasing exponentially;and the computation power, communication data rate, smart sensing capability and intelligence are always not enough. Hardware supports software, while the integrated circuit(IC) is the core of hardware. In this long review paper, we summarize and discuss recent trending IC design directions and challenges, and try to give the readers big/cool pictures on each selected small/hot topics. We divide the trends into the following six categories, namely, 1) machine learning and artificial intelligence(AI) chips, 2) communication ICs, 3) data converters, 4) power converters, 5) imagers and range sensors, 6) emerging directions. 3Motion detection for high-speed high-brightness objects based on a pulse array image sensor显示文摘We describe a method of optical flow extraction for high-speed high-brightness targets based on a pulse array image sensor(PAIS).PAIS is a retina-like image sensor with pixels triggered by light;it can convert light into a series of pulse intervals.This method can obtain optical flow from pulse data directly by accumulating continuous pulses.The triggered points can be used to filter redundant data when the target is brighter than the background.The method takes full advantage of the rapid response of PAIS to high-brightness targets.We applied this method to extract the optical flow of high-speed turntables with different background brightness,with the sensor model and actual data,respectively.Under the sampling condition of 2×10^(4) frames/s,the optical flow could be extracted from a high-speed turntable rotating at 1000 r/min.More than 90%of redundant points could be filtered by our method.Experimental results showed that the optical flow extraction algorithm based on pulse data can extract the optical flow information of high-brightness objects efficiently without the need to reconstruct images.Peiwen ZHANG Jiangtao XU Huafeng NIE Zhiyuan GAO Kaiming NIE 2022Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2022,23,1:0
4High dynamic range image reconstruction for multi-bit quanta image sensor显示文摘An adaptive thresholds algorithm is proposed in this letter, which is used to determine the global optimal thresholds for multi-bit quanta image sensor(MB-QIS). Firstly, the senor model of MB-QIS is set up. Then global optimal thresholds theory is analyzed and a thresholds optimization algorithm based on the binary search is designed to determine the optimal global thresholds. Finally, the high dynamic range(HDR) images are reconstructed by the noniterative maximum likelihood estimation(MLE) image reconstruction method. 5A high dynamic range pixel using lateral overflow integration capacitor and adaptive feedback structure in CMOS image sensors显示文摘This letter proposes a novel high dynamic range(HDR)pixel using lateral overflow integration capacitor(LOFIC)and adaptive feedback structure.Through detailed analysis of the voltage feedback mechanism,the conversion gain(CG),full well capacity(FWC)and dynamic range(DR)performances of the feedback LOFIC pixel are analytically expressed.The verification results reveal that the equivalent FWC of the feedback LOFIC pixel is 1.89 times of conventional LOFIC pixel,and the DR extension is 5.5 dB.Based on 110 nm CMOS process,a 5.0µm pixel layout is presented,using 13.3 fF capacitance to achieve 83 ke-FWC and 102.8 dB DR,which are 44 ke-and 97.3 dB of conventional LOFIC pixel under the same design conditions.This also demonstrates that the feedback LOFIC pixel can reduce the dependence of extended DR on capacitor area,and can be used as a reference for HDR pixels design.YANG Yuejin XU Jiangtao MA Biao CHEN Quanmin NIE Kaiming 2023Optoelectronics Letters2023,19,12:0
