Advances in greenhouse automation and controlled environment agriculture:A transition to plant factories and urban agriculture显示文摘Greenhouse cultivation has evolved from simple covered rows of open-fields crops to highly sophisticated controlled environment agriculture(CEA)facilities that projected the image of plant factories for urban agriculture. The advances and improvements in CEA have promoted the scientific solutions for the efficient production of plants in populated cities and multi-story buildings.Successful deployment of CEA for urban agriculture requires many components and subsystems,as well as the understanding of the external influencing factors that should be systematically considered and integrated. This review is an attempt to highlight some of the most recent advances in greenhouse technology and CEA in order to raise the awareness for technology transfer and adaptation, which is necessary for a successful transition to urban agriculture. This study reviewed several aspects of a high-tech CEA system including improvements in the frame and covering materials, environment perception and data sharing, and advanced microclimate control and energy optimization models. This research highlighted urban agriculture and its derivatives, including vertical farming, rooftop greenhouses and plant factories which are the extensions of CEA and have emerged as a response to the growing population, environmental degradation, and urbanization that are threatening food security. Finally, several opportunities and challenges have been identified in implementing the integrated CEA and vertical farming for urban agriculture. | Redmond Ramin Shamshiri Fatemeh Kalantari K.C.Ting Kelly R.Thorp Ibrahim A.Hameed Cornelia Weltzien Desa Ahmad Zahra Mojgan Shad | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,1: | 14
GIS-based landslide susceptibility mapping using numerical risk factor bivariate model and its ensemble with linear multivariate regression and boosted regression tree algorithms显示文摘In this study, a novel approach of the landslide numerical risk factor(LNRF) bivariate model was used in ensemble with linear multivariate regression(LMR) and boosted regression tree(BRT) models, coupled with radar remote sensing data and geographic information system(GIS), for landslide susceptibility mapping(LSM) in the Gorganroud watershed, Iran. Fifteen topographic, hydrological, geological and environmental conditioning factors and a landslide inventory(70%, or 298 landslides) were used in mapping. Phased array-type L-band synthetic aperture radar data were used to extract topographic parameters. Coefficients of tolerance and variance inflation factor were used to determine the coherence among conditioning factors. Data for the landslide inventory map were obtained from various resources, such as Iranian Landslide Working Party(ILWP), Forestry, Rangeland and Watershed Organisation(FRWO), extensive field surveys, interpretation of aerial photos and satellite images, and radar data. Of the total data, 30% were used to validate LSMs, using area under the curve(AUC), frequency ratio(FR) and seed cell area index(SCAI).Normalised difference vegetation index, land use/land cover and slope degree in BRT model elevation, rainfall and distance from stream were found to be important factors and were given the highest weightage in modelling. Validation results using AUC showed that the ensemble LNRF-BRT and LNRFLMR models(AUC = 0.912(91.2%) and 0.907(90.7%), respectively) had high predictive accuracy than the LNRF model alone(AUC = 0.855(85.5%)). The FR and SCAI analyses showed that all models divided the parameter classes with high precision. Overall, our novel approach of combining multivariate and machine learning methods with bivariate models, radar remote sensing data and GIS proved to be a powerful tool for landslide susceptibility mapping. | Alireza ARABAMERI Biswajeet PRADHAN Khalil REZAE Masoud SOHRABI Zahra KALANTARI | 2019 | Journal of Mountain Science2019,16,3: | 11
An analytical model for estimating rock strength parameters from small-scale drilling data显示文摘The small-scale drilling technique can be a fast and reliable method to estimate rock strength parameters. It needs to link the operational drilling parameters and strength properties of rock. The parameters such as bit geometry, bit movement, contact frictions and crushed zone affect the estimated parameters. An analytical model considering operational drilling data and effective parameters can be used for these purposes. In this research, an analytical model was developed based on limit equilibrium of forces in a Tshaped drag bit considering the effective parameters such as bit geometry, crushed zone and contact frictions in drilling process. Based on the model, a method was used to estimate rock strength parameters such as cohesion, internal friction angle and uniaxial compressive strength of different rock types from operational drilling data. Some drilling tests were conducted by a portable and powerful drilling machine which was developed for this work. The obtained results for strength properties of different rock types from the drilling experiments based on the proposed model are in good agreement with the results of standard tests. Experimental results show that the contact friction between the cutting face and rock is close to that between bit end wearing face and rock due to the same bit material. In this case, the strength parameters, especially internal friction angle and cohesion, are estimated only by using a blunt bit drilling data and the bit bluntness does not affect the estimated results. | Sajjad Kalantari Alireza Baghbanan Hamid Hashemalhosseini | 2019 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2019,11,1: | 9

Effect of Intermediate Annealing Temperature on Response of Repressing to Densification of Pre-Alloyed Cr-Mo Steel显示文摘Increasing density is one of the important factors for producing high quality powder metallurgy (PM) parts, which has beneficial effect on mechanical properties. One of the common techniques for achieving this goal is double compacting, which seems to be a potentially attractive method in PM route, also for Cr-Mo alloyed-steels. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of first compacting pressure and intermediate annealing temperature on attaining higher densities and minimum interconnected porosity for Cr-Mo pre-alloyed steel. The effect of mentioned parameters was studied by measuring density, transverse rupture strength and macrohardness of repressed samples. The results show that for each first compacting pressure, the density range of repressed samples increases with the increasing annealing temperature up to a certain limit, due to C dissolution which causes free porosity and further densification. Annealing temperatures higher than optimum one should be avoided, since too much carbon dissolution results in harder and less deformable compacts. On the other hand, with regard to repressed density and other resulted properties, the amount of first compacting pressure offers considerable advantage in obtaining higher level of density and consequently improved mechanical properties. | Amir Kalantari Maziyar Azadbeh | 2011 | Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2011,18,2: | 2
An IFC-based database schema for mapping BIM data into a 3D spatially enabled land administration database显示文摘There are different processes in 3D urban land administration in which spatial analysis plays an underpinning role.Among 3D data models,Industry Foundation Class(IFC)provides the potential capabilities for modelling legal and physical dimensions of urban properties. However, performing spatial analysis using IFC files cannot address the on-demand spatial analysis requirements of 3D urban land administration. In response to this limitation,3D data needs to be stored in a spatial database to enable spatial analyses required by different stakeholders. Therefore,in this paper,by considering spatial analysis requirements in 3D-enabled urban land administration,an IFC-based database schema is designed. Moreover,a methodology for transforming Building Information Modelling(BIM)data into the proposed schema is provided. This methodology includes seven steps:designing the architectural model and adding legal data, georeferencing,IFC data validation and cleaning, mapping process, database data validation and cleaning, spatial analysis, and visualisation. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed database, three datasets are implemented in the database. Moreover,a new method for modelling legal spaces with oblique structures and two applications of spatial analysis in 3D urban land administration are provided. | Maryam Barzegar Abbas Rajabifard Mohsen Kalantari Behnam Atazadeh | 2021 | International Journal of Digital Earth2021,14,6: | 2

Laboratory to field scale assessment for EOR applicability in tight oil reservoirs显示文摘Tight oil reservoirs are contributing a major role to fulfill the overall crude oil needs, especially in the US.However, the dilemma is their ultra-tight permeability and an uneconomically short-lived primary recovery factor. Therefore, the application of EOR in the early reservoir development phase is considered effective for fast-paced and economical tight oil recovery. To achieve these objectives,it is imperative to determine the optimum EOR potential and the best-suited EOR application for every individual tight oil reservoir to maximize its ultimate recovery factor.Since most of the tight oil reservoirs are found in wide spatial source rock with complex and compacted pores and poor geophysical properties yet they hold high saturation of good quality oil and therefore, every single percent increase in oil recovery from such huge reservoirs potentially provide an additional million barrels of oil.Hence, the EOR application in such reservoirs is quite essential. However, the physical understanding of EOR applications in different circumstances from laboratory to field scale is the key to success and similarly, the fundamental physical concepts of fluid flow-dynamics under confinement conditions play an important role. This paper presents a detailed discussion on laboratory-based experimental achievements at micro-scale including fundamental concepts under confinement environment,physics-based numerical studies, and recent actual field piloting experiences based on the U.S.unconventional plays. The objective of this paper is to discuss all the critical reservoir rock and fluid properties and their contribution to reservoir development through massive multi-staged hydraulic fracture networks and the EOR applications.Especially the CO_(2)and produced hydrocarbon gas injection through single well-based huff-n-puff operational constraints are discussed in detail both at micro and macro scale. | Fahad Iqbal Syed Amirmasoud Kalantari Dahaghi Temoor Muther | 2022 | Petroleum Science2022,19,5: | 2
Synthesis of mesoporous silica/iron oxide nanocomposites and application of optimum sample as adsorbent in removal of heavy metals显示文摘In this study, mesoporous silica/iron oxide nanocomposite(MCM-Fe_2 O_3) was synthesized via hydrothermal technique. The chemical synthesis of MCM-Fe_2 O_3 nanocomposite was achieved at 18 h. The effect of concentration of tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS) on nanocomposites properties was studied during synthesis process. For this purpose, 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, and 4.5 ml tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS) were selected, respectively. The textural properties and microstructure of the nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), N_2 adsorption-desorption, and vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) analysis. Results show that the nanocomposite with tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS)/cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB) ratio of 5 exhibits large surface areas(461.19 m^2·g^(-1)). Furthermore, this nanocomposite shows superparamagnetic behavior under external magnetic field compared to other samples. Moreover, results of removal of metal ions indicate that adsorption of Ni(II), Cd(II), Cr(III),Zn(II), and Pb(II) ions on the surface of adsorbent(nanocomposite) increases with the increase in solution pH, contact time, and adsorbent dosage. Furthermore, the maximum removal rates of heavy metals ions reach 53.0 %, 79.0 %, 61.0 %,89.0 %, and 99.5 % at pH of 5, time of 50 min, and the weight of adsorbent of 0.16 with 2.5 ml TEOS, respectively. | Shirin Kalantari Mardali Yousefpour Zahra Taherian | 2017 | Rare Metals2017,36,12: | 2

Design and development of a web-based 3D cadastral visualisation prototype显示文摘Three-dimensional(3D)developments of land, such as complex high-rises,put enormous pressure on current land administration systems that have ad hoc approaches to 3D property management. These approaches are unable to support effective 3D storage, analysis and visualisation of property information.Effective visualisation is one of the essential components in realisation of a truly 3D cadastre.Currently, several 3D visualisation applications and cadastral prototypes have been developed around the world. However, they do not effectively represent ownership information in 3D because they have not been developed based on 3D cadastral visualisation requirements. After candidate 3D visualisation solutions were compared with user-derived visualisation criteria,a web-based 3D visualisation prototype was designed and developed. The functionality, usability and efficiency of the prototype were evaluated by potential users involved in the registration and management of property. While there was a high level of enthusiasm for the features of the prototype, the results also suggest further directions for development of 3D cadastral visualisation. | Davood Shojaei Abbas Rajabifard Mohsen Kalantari Ian D.Bishop Ali Aien | 2015 | International Journal of Digital Earth2015,8,7: | 1

| 20 | Seismic evaluation of rocking structures through performance assessment and fragility analysis显示文摘Numerical studies have been conducted for low-and medium-rise rocking structures to investigate their efficiency as earthquake-resisting systems in comparison with conventional structures.Several non-linear time-history analyses have been performed to evaluate seismic performance of selected cases at desired ground shaking levels, based on key parameters such as total and flexural story drifts and residual deformations. The Far-field record set is selected as input ground motions and median peak values of key parameters are taken as best estimates of system response. In addition,in order to evaluate the probability of exceeding relevant damage states, analytical fragility curves have been developed based on the results of the incremental dynamic analysis procedure.Small exceedance probabilities and acceptable margins against collapse, together with minor associated damages in main structural members, can be considered as superior seismic performance for medium-rise rocking systems.Low-rise rocking systems could provide significant performance improvement over their conventional counterparts notwithstanding certain weaknesses in their seismic response. | Mohammad G.
