1Linking atmospheric pollution to cryospheric change in the Third Pole region: current progress and future prospects显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings are known as the Third Pole(TP). This region is noted for its high rates of glacier melt and the associated hydrological shifts that affect water supplies in Asia. Atmospheric pollutants contribute to climatic and cryospheric changes through their effects on solar radiation and the albedos of snow and ice surfaces; moreover, the behavior and fates within the cryosphere and environmental impacts of environmental pollutants are topics of increasing concern. In this review, we introduce a coordinated monitoring and research framework and network to link atmospheric pollution and cryospheric changes(APCC) within the TP region. We then provide an up-to-date summary of progress and achievements related to the APCC research framework, including aspects of atmospheric pollution’s composition and concentration, spatial and temporal variations, trans-boundary transport pathways and mechanisms, and effects on the warming of atmosphere and changing in Indian monsoon, as well as melting of glacier and snow cover. We highlight that exogenous air pollutants can enter into the TP’s environments and cause great impacts on regional climatic and environmental changes. At last, we propose future research priorities and map out an extended program at the global scale. 4Load Profiling and Its Application to Demand Response: A Review显示文摘The smart grid has been revolutionizing electrical generation and consumption through a two-way flow of power and information. As an important information source from the demand side, Advanced Metering Infrastructure(AMI) has gained increasing popularity all over the world. By making full use of the data gathered by AMI, stakeholders of the electrical industry can have a better understanding of electrical consumption behavior. This is a significant strategy to improve operation efficiency and enhance power grid reliability. To implement this strategy,researchers have explored many data mining techniques for load profiling. This paper performs a state-of-the-art,comprehensive review of these data mining techniques from the perspectives of different technical approaches including direct clustering, indirect clustering, clustering evaluation criteria, and customer segmentation. On this basis, the prospects for implementing load profiling to demand response applications, price-based and incentivebased, are further summarized. 5Enhancement in wheat leaf photophosphorylation and photosynthesis by spraying low concentration of NaHSO_3显示文摘Spraying 1-2 mmol/L NaHSO3 on the leaf of wheat results in enhancement of photosynthesis in leaves for about 3 d. The amount of ATP has been increased and the millisecond delayed light emission of the leaves has been enhanced, showing that the transmembrane proton motive force related to photophosphorylation is increased. Spraying PMS (a cofactor catalyzing cycle photophosphorylation) and NaHSO3 separately or together on the leaves, 20% increase in photosynthesis has been observed in all the treatments. 7Identification and primary genetic analysis of Arabidopsis stomatal mutants in response to multiple stresses显示文摘In response to variable environmental conditions, guard cells located in the leaf epidermis can integrate and cope with a multitude of complicated stimuli, thereby making stomata in an appro- priate state. However, many signaling components in guard cell signaling remain elusive. In our laboratory, a tool for non-invasive remote infrared thermal images was used to screen an ethyl methane sulfonate-mutagenized population for Arabidopsis stomatal response mutants under multiple stresses (ABA, H2O2, CO2, etc.). More than forty 'hot' or 'cold' mutants were isolated (above or below 0.5℃ in con- trast to normal plantlets). Identification and primary genetic analysis of these mutants show that they are monogenic recessive mutations and there exist distinct difference in stomata apertures compared to wild type. 8Pretreated quercetin protects gerbil hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons from transient cerebral ischemic injury by increasing the expression of antioxidant enzymes显示文摘Quercetin(QE; 3,5,7,3′,4′-pentahydroxyflavone), a well-known flavonoid, has been shown to prevent against neurodegenerative disorders and ischemic insults. However, few studies are reported regarding the neuroprotective mechanisms of QE after ischemic insults. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects of QE on ischemic injury and the expression of antioxidant enzymes in the hippocampal CA1 region of gerbils subjected to 5 minutes of transient cerebral ischemia. QE was pre-treated once daily for 15 days before ischemia. Pretreatment with QE protected hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons from ischemic injury, which was confirmed by neuronal nuclear antigen immunohistochemistry and Fluoro-Jade B histofluorescence staining. In addition, pretreatment with QE significantly increased the expression levels of endogenous antioxidant enzymes Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase, Mn superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase in the hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons of animals with ischemic injury. 9H pylori eradication:A randomized prospective study of triple therapy with or without ecabet sodium显示文摘AIM: To investigate whether adding ecabet sodium to the standard triple therapy for H pylori infection improve eradication rate. METHODS: Two hundred and fifty-seven H pylori-infected patients were randomly assigned to standard triple therapy (group A, n = 129) or triple therapy plus ecabet sodium (group B, n = 128). Successful eradication was defined as a negative 13C-urea breath test 6-8 wk after completion of treatment. RESULTS: After completion of therapy, 194/257 patients showed negative 13C-urea breath test results. According to intention-to-treat analysis, the infection was eradicated in 93/129 (72.1%) patients in group A and 101/128 (78.9%) in group B (P = 0.204). Per-protocol analysis showed successful eradication in 93/118 (78.8%) patients from group A and 101/114 (88.6%) from group B (P = 0.044). There were no significant differences in the side effects experienced by the patients in the two treatment groups. 10Characteristics of and risk factors for colorectal neoplasms in young adults in a screening population显示文摘AIM: To investigate prevalence and risk factors for colorectal neoplasms in adults aged < 50 years, for whom screening is not recommended.METHODS: This cross-sectional study compared prevalence and characteristics of colorectal and advanced adenomas in patients aged < 50 years who underwent colonoscopy screening with subjects aged ≥ 50 years. To evaluate risk factors for colorectal and advanced adenoma in young adults, we used multivariable logistic regression models. Colorectal neoplasm characteristics were evaluated and compared with those in older patients.RESULTS: Among 2819 patients included, prevalences of colorectal adenoma and advanced adenoma were 19.7% and 1.5%, respectively. As patient age increased, so did the prevalence of colorectal neoplasm. However, prevalence of advanced adenoma did not differ between age-groups 45-49 years and ≥ 50 years(OR = 0.43, 95%CI: 0.17-1.07, P = 0.070). In younger age-group(< 50 years), colorectal adenoma was significantly associated with older age, waist circumference(OR = 1.72, 95%CI: 1.15-2.55, P = 0.008), and current smoking(OR = 1.60, 95%CI: 1.07-2.41, P = 0.023). Alcohol consumption was an independent risk factor for colorectal advanced adenoma(OR = 3.69, 95%CI: 1.08-12.54, P = 0.037). 12Effects of climate change on phenology and primary productivity in the desert steppe of Inner Mongolia显示文摘Variations in temperature and precipitation affect local ecosystems. Considerable spatial and temporal heterogeneity exists in arid ecosystems such as desert steppes. In this study, we analyzed the spatiotemporal dynamics of climate and vegetation phenology in the desert steppe of Inner Mongolia, China using meteorological data(1961–2010) from 11 stations and phenology data(2004–2012) from 6 ecological observation stations. We also estimated the gross primary production for the period of 1982–2009 and found that the annual mean temperature increased at a rate of 0.47oC/decade during 1961–2010, with the last 10 years being consistently warmer than the 50 years as an average. The most significant warming occurred in winters. Annual precipitation slightly decreased during the 50-year period, with summer precipitation experiencing the highest drop in the last 10 years, and spring precipitation, a rise. Spatially, annual precipitation increased significantly in the northeastern and eastern central areas next to the typical steppe. From 2004 to 2012, vegetation green-up and senescence date advanced in the study area, shortening the growing season. Consequently, the primary productivity of the desert steppe decreased along the precipitation gradient from southeast to northwest. Temporally, productivity increased during the period of 1982–1999 and significantly decreased after 2000. Overall, the last decade witnessed the most dramatic climatic changes that were likely to negatively affect the desert steppe ecosystem. 13The effect of Y,Ce and Gd on texture,recrystallization and mechanical property of Mg-Zn alloys显示文摘The effect of Gd,Ce and Y elements on texture,recrystallization and mechanical properties of Mg–1.5Zn alloys was investigated.The results show that the addition of Gd,Ce and Y elements in Mg–1.5Zn alloy,which rolled at 450℃ and subsequently annealed at 350℃ for 1h,can effectively weaken and modify the basal texture,characterized by the splitting basal pole toward to transverse direction,leading to the yield and tensile strength,the highest along the rolling direction and the lowest along the transverse direction.Besides,the unique basal texture contributes to the significant improvement of elongation at room temperature.Electron back scattering diffraction(EBSD)analysis indicated that the non-basal texture in Mg–1.5Zn–0.2RE alloys can be attributed to obstructive effect of static recrystallization and the non-basal orientation grains nucleation near pre-existing grain boundaries during annealing.Specially,the Mg–1.5Zn–0.2Gd sheet exhibits much excellent plasticity with the elongation of 27%than Mg–1.5Zn–0.2Ce and Mg–1.5Zn–0.2Y alloys,resulting from the less and smaller second phase of MgZnGd.Peng Liu Haitao Jiang Zhengxu Cai Qiang Kang Yun Zhang 2016Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2016,4,3:8
14Dynamic changes in proteins during apple(Malus x domestica)fruit ripening and storage显示文摘A proteomic study,using two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight/time-of-flight,was conducted in apple fruit(cv.‘Golden Delicious’)starting at 10 days prior to harvest through 50 days in storage.Total protein was extracted using a phenol/sodium dodecyl sulfate protocol.More than 400 protein spots were detected in each gel and 55 differentially expressed proteins(p,0.05)were subjected to matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight/time-of-flight analysis.Fifty-three of these proteins were finally identified using an apple expressed sequence tag database downloaded from Genome Database for Rosaceae and placed into six categories.The categories and the percentage of proteins placed in each category were stress response and defense(49.0%),energy and metabolism(34.0%),fruit ripening and senescence(5.6%),signal transduction(3.8%),cell structure(3.8%)and protein synthesis(3.8%).Proteins involved in several multiple metabolic pathways,including glycolysis,pentose–phosphate pathway,anti-oxidative systems,photosynthesis and cell wall synthesis,were downregulated,especially during the climacteric burst in respiration and during the senescent stages of fruit development.Proteins classified as allergens or involved in cell wall degradation were upregulated during the ripening process.Some protein spots exhibited a mixed pattern(increasing to maximal abundance followed by a decrease),such as 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate oxidase,L-ascorbate peroxidase and abscisic acid response proteins.The identification of differentially expressed proteins associated with physiological processes identified in the current study provides a baseline of information for understanding the metabolic processes and regulatory mechanisms that occur in climacteric apple fruit during ripening and senescence.Yun Shi Li Jiang Li Zhang Ruoyi Kang Zhifang Yu 2014Horticulture Research2014,1,1:8
15A Study of the Technique of Western Blot for Diagnosis of Lyme Disease caused by Borrelia afzelii in China显示文摘Objective To study the technique of Western blot for the diagnosis of Lyme disease caused by Borrelia afzelii in China and to establish the standard criteria by operational procedure. Methods FP1, which is the representative strain of B. afzelii in China, was analyzed by SDS‐PAGE, electro transfer and immunoblotting assays. The molecular weights of the protein bands of FP1 were analyzed by Gel‐Pro analysis software. In a study using 451 serum samples (159 patients with Lyme disease and 292 controls), all observed bands were recorded. The accuracy of the WB as a diagnostic test was established by using the ROC curve and Youden index. Results Criteria for a positive diagnosis of Lyme disease were established as at least one band of P83/100, P58, P39, OspB, OspA, P30, P28, OspC, P17, and P14 in the IgG test and at least one band of P83/100, P58, P39, OspA, P30, P28, OspC, P17, and P41 in the IgM test. For IgG criteria, the sensitivity, specificity and Youden index were 69.8%, 98.3%, and 0.681, respectively; for IgM criteria, the sensitivity, specificity and Youden index were 47%, 94.2%, and 0.412, respectively. 16An Overview of Mineral Dust Modeling over East Asia显示文摘East Asian dust(EAD) exerts considerable impacts on the energy balance and climate/climate change of the earth system through its influence on solar and terrestrial radiation, cloud properties, and precipitation efficiency. Providing an accurate description of the life cycle and climate effects of EAD is therefore critical to better understanding of climate change and socioeconomic development in East Asia and even worldwide. Dust modeling has undergone substantial development since the late 1990 s, associated with improved understanding of the role of EAD in the earth system. Here, we review the achievements and progress made in recent decades in terms of dust modeling research,including dust emissions, long-range transport, radiative forcing(RF), and climate effects of dust particles over East Asia. Numerous efforts in dust/EAD modeling have been directed towards furnishing more sophisticated physical and chemical processes into the models on higher spatial resolutions. Meanwhile, more systematic observations and more advanced retrieval methods for instruments that address EAD related science issues have made it possible to evaluate model results and quantify the role of EAD in the earth system, and to further reduce the uncertainties in EAD simulations. Though much progress has been made, large discrepancies and knowledge gaps still exist among EAD simulations. 17Microstructure evolution and mechanical property of Mg-3Al alloys with addition of Ca and Gd during rolling and annealing process显示文摘The formability of magnesium alloys at ambient temperature can be enhanced by alloying additions such as Ca and RE elements,which is ascribed to the weakened basal texture.To produce magnesium alloy sheets with excellent comprehensive performance,the evolution of texture characterization during fabrication process and subsequent effect of texture on mechanical properties are vital controlling factors.In this investigation,three experimental Mg-3Al series alloys were hot rolled and annealed to sheets with 1 mm thickness.The microstructure evolution during rolling and annealing process was investigated.Furthermore,the influence of texture on tensile properties along different tensile directions was also studied.The results show that weakened basal texture and refined grains were achieved with the co-addition of Ca and RE element.However,strengthening of mechanical properties wasn't obtained.During hot rolling process,microstructure was refined,second phase particles broken,and basal texture was increased.While basal texture was weakened during annealing process.Recrystallization behavior influenced by formation of second phase was dominated to attenuate basal texture.Tensile deformation behavior was controlled by basal slip and followed Schmid factor criterion.Moreover,the weakened basal texture and activation of non-basal slips during hot rolling process can contribute to diminish the anisotropy of tensile properties.Yun Zhang Haitao Jiang Qiang Kang Yujiao Wang Yonggang Yang Shiwei Tian 2020Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,3:7
18High-quality de novo assembly of the Eucommia ulmoides haploid genome provides new insights into evolution and rubber biosynthesis显示文摘We report the acquisition of a high-quality haploid chromosome-scale genome assembly for the first time in a tree species,Eucommia ulmoides,which is known for its rubber biosynthesis and medicinal applications.The assembly was obtained by applying PacBio and Hi–C technologies to a haploid that we specifically generated.Compared to the initial genome release,this one has significantly improved assembly quality.The scaffold N50(53.15 MB)increased 28-fold,and the repetitive sequence content(520 Mb)increased by 158.24 Mb,whereas the number of gaps decreased from 104,772 to 128.A total of 92.87%of the 26,001 predicted protein-coding genes identified with multiple strategies were anchored to the 17 chromosomes.A new whole-genome duplication event was superimposed on the earlierγpaleohexaploidization event,and the expansion of long terminal repeats contributed greatly to the evolution of the genome.The more primitive rubber biosynthesis of this species,as opposed to that in Hevea brasiliensis,relies on the methylerythritol-phosphate pathway rather than the mevalonate pathway to synthesize isoprenyl diphosphate,as the MEP pathway operates predominantly in trans-polyisoprene-containing leaves and central peels.Chlorogenic acid biosynthesis pathway enzymes were preferentially expressed in leaves rather than in bark.This assembly with higher sequence contiguity can foster not only studies on genome structure and evolution,gene mapping,epigenetic analysis and functional genomics but also efforts to improve E.ulmoides for industrial and medical uses through genetic engineering.Yun Li Hairong Wei Jun Yang Kang Du Jiang Li Ying Zhang Tong Qiu Zhao Liu Yongyu Ren Lianjun Song Xiangyang Kang 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:7
19Classification of the Gut Microbiota of Patients in Intensive Care Units During Development of Sepsis and Septic Shock显示文摘The gut microbiota of intensive care unit(ICU)patients displays extreme dysbiosis associated with increased susceptibility to organ failure,sepsis,and septic shock.However,such dysbiosis is difficult to characterize owing to the high dimensional complexity of the gut microbiota.We tested whether the concept of enterotype can be applied to the gut microbiota of ICU patients to describe the dysbiosis.We collected 131 fecal samples from 64 ICU patients diagnosed with sepsis or septic shock and performed 16S rRNA gene sequencing to dissect their gut microbiota compositions.During the development of sepsis or septic shock and during various medical treatments,the ICU patients always exhibited two dysbiotic microbiota patterns,or ICU-enterotypes,which could not be explained by host properties such as age,sex,and body mass index,or external stressors such as infection site and antibiotic use.ICU-enterotype I(ICU E1)comprised predominantly Bacteroides and an unclassified genus of Enterobacteriaceae,while ICU-enterotype II(ICU E2)comprised predominantly Enterococcus.Among more critically ill patients with Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II(APACHE II)scores>18,septic shock was more likely to occur with ICU E1(P=0.041).Additionally,ICU E1 was correlated with high serum lactate levels(P=0.007).Therefore,different patterns of dysbiosis were correlated with different clinical outcomes,suggesting that ICU-enterotypes should be diagnosed as independent clinical indices.Thus,the microbial-based human index classifier we propose is precise and effective for timely monitoring of ICU-enterotypes of individual patients.This work is a first step toward precision medicine for septic patients based on their gut microbiota profiles.Wanglin Liu Mingyue Cheng Jinman Li Peng Zhang Hang Fan Qinghe Hu Maozhen Han Longxiang Su Huaiwu He Yigang Tong Kang Ning Yun Long 2020Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,6:7
