2Outcomes of furazolidone-and amoxicillin-based quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection and predictors of failed eradication显示文摘AIM To evaluate the outcomes of furazolidone-and amoxicillin-based quadruple therapy for treatment of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection and identify predictors of failed eradication.METHODS Patients with H. pylori infection treated with furazolidone, amoxicillin, bismuth, and proton pump inhibitor therapy(January 2015 to December 2015) who received the ^(13)C-urea breath test > 4 wk after treatment were evaluated. Demographic and clinical data including prior H. pylori treatment attempts, medication adherence, alcohol and cigarette consumption during therapy, and treatment-related adverse events were recorded by reviewing medical records and telephone surveys. H. pylori eradication rates for overall and subgroups were evaluated. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify independent predictors of failed H. pylori eradication.RESULTS Of the 992 patients treated and retested for H. pylori infection, the overall eradication rate was 94.5% [95% confidence interval(CI): 94.1%-95.9%]. H. pylori eradication rate of primary therapy was 95.0%(95%CI: 93.5%-96.5%), while that of rescue therapy was 91.3%(95%CI: 86.8%-95.8%). Among the 859 patients who completed the study protocol, 144(17%) reported treatment-related adverse events including 24(3%) leading to premature discontinuation. On multivariate analysis, poor medication adherence [adjusted odds ratio(AOR) = 6.7, 95%CI: 2.8-15.8], two or more previous H. pylori treatments(AOR = 7.4, 95%CI: 2.2-24.9), alcohol consumption during therapy(AOR = 4.4, 95%CI: 1.5-12.3), and possibly smoking during therapy(AOR = 1.9, 95%CI: 0.9-4.3) were associated with failed H. pylori eradication. CONCLUSION Furazolidone-and amoxicillin-based quadruple therapy for H. pylori infection in an area with a high prevalence of clarithromycin resistance demonstrated high eradication rates as primary and rescue therapies with a favorable safety profile. 3Household air pollution and lung cancer in China:a review of studies in Xuanwei显示文摘Over half of the world's population is exposed to household air pollution from the burning of solid fuels at home. Household air pollution from solid fuel use is a leading risk factor for global disease and remains a major public health problem, especially in low- and mid-income countries. This is a particularly serious problem in China, where many people in rural areas still use coal for household heating and cooking. This review focuses on several decades of research carried out in Xuanwei County, Yunnan Province, where household coal use is a major source of household air pollution and where studies have linked household air pollution exposure to high rates of lung cancer. We conducted a series of case-control and cohort studies in Xuanwei to characterize the lung cancer risk in this population and the factors associated with it. We found lung cancer risk to vary substantially between different coal types, with a higher risk associated with smoky(i.e., bituminous) coal use compared to smokeless(i.e., anthracite) coal use. The installation of a chimney in homes resulted in a substantial reduction in lung cancer incidence and mortality. 4When water meets iron at Earth's core-mantle boundary显示文摘Hydrous minerals in subducted crust can transport large amounts of water into Earth's deep mantle. Our laboratory experiments revealed the surprising pressure-induced chemistry that, when water meets iron at the core-mantle boundary, they react to form an interlayer with an extremely oxygen-rich form of iron, iron dioxide, together with iron hydride. Hydrogen in the layer will escape upon further heating and rise to the crust, sustaining the water cycle. With water supplied by the subducting slabs meeting the nearly inexhaustible iron source in the core, an oxygen-rich layer would cumulate and thicken, leading to major global consequences in our planet. The seismic signature of the D″ layer may echo the chemical complexity of this layer. Over the course of geological time, the enormous oxygen reservoir accumulating between the mantle and core may have eventually reached a critical eruption point. 5The effect of fire disturbance on short-term soil respiration in typical forest of Greater Xing'an Range, China显示文摘We investigated the effect of fire disturbance on short-term soil respiration in birch(Betula platyphylla Suk.) and larch(Larix gmelinii Rupr.) forests in Greater Xing'an range, northeastern China for further understanding of its effect on the carbon cycle in ecosystems. Our study show that post-fire soil respiration rates in B. platyphylla and L. gmelinii forests were reduced by 14% and 10%, respectively. In contrast, the soil heterotrophic respiration rates in the two types of forest were similar in post-fire and control plots. After fire, the contribution of root respiration to total soil respiration was dramatically reduced. Variation in soil respiration rates was explained by soil moisture(W) and soil temperature(T) at a depth of 5 cm. Exponential regression fitted T and W models explained Rs rates in B. platyphylla control and post-fire plots(83.1% and 86.2%) and L. gmelinii control and post-fire plots(83.7% and 88.7%). In addition, the short-term temperature coefficients in B.platyphylla control and post-fire plots were 5.33 and 5, respectively, and 9.12, and 5.26 in L. gmelinii control and post-fire plots, respectively. 6Effect of cavity flow control on high-speed train pantograph and roof aerodynamic noise显示文摘The pantograph and its recess on the train roof are major aerodynamic noise sources on high-speed trains.Reducing this noise is particularly important because conventional noise barriers usually do not shield the pantograph.However,less attention has been paid to the pantograph recess compared with the pantograph.In this paper,the flow features and noise contribution of two types of noise reduction treatments rounded and chamfered edges are studied for a simplified high-speed train pantograph recess,which is represented as a rectangular cavity and numerically investigated at 1/10 scale.Improved delayed detached-eddy simulations are performed for the near-field turbulent flow simulation,and the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings aeroacoustic analogy is used for far-field noise prediction.The highly unsteady flow over the cavity is significantly reduced by the cavity edge modifications,and consequently,the noise radiated from the cavity is reduced.Furthermore,effects of the rounded cavity edges on the flow and noise of the pantographs(one raised and one folded)are investigated by comparing the flow features and noise contributions from the cases with and without rounding of the cavity edges.Different train running directions are also considered.Flow analysis shows that the highly unsteady flow within the cavity is reduced by rounding the cavity edges and a slightly lower flow speed occurs around the upper parts of the raised pantograph,whereas the flow velocity in the cavity is slightly increased by the rounding.Higher pressure fluctuations occur on the folded pantograph and the lower parts of the raised pantograph,whereas weaker fluctuations are found on the panhead of the raised pantograph.This study shows that by rounding the cavity edges,a reduction in radiated noise at the side and the top receiver positions can be achieved.Noise reductions in the other directions can also be found.Hogun Kim Zhiwei Hu David Thompson 2020Railway Engineering Science2020,28,1:10
7Versatile on-chip light coupling and(de)multiplexing from arbitrary polarizations to controlled waveguide modes using an integrated dielectric metasurface显示文摘Metasurfaces have found broad applicability in free-space optics,while its potential to tailor guided waves remains barely explored.By synergizing the Jones matrix model with generalized Snell’s law under the phase-matching condition,we propose a universal design strategy for versatile on-chip mode-selective coupling with polarization sensitivity,multiple working wavelengths,and high efficiency concurrently.The coupling direction,operation frequency,and excited mode type can be designed at will for arbitrary incident polarizations,outperforming previous technology that only works for specific polarizations and lacks versatile mode controllability.Here,using silicon-nanoantenna-patterned silicon-nitride photonic waveguides,we numerically demonstrate a set of chip-scale optical couplers around 1.55μm,including mode-selective directional couplers with high coupling efficiency over 57%and directivity about 23 d B.Polarization and wavelength demultiplexer scenarios are also proposed with 67%maximum efficiency and an extinction ratio of 20 d B.Moreover,a chip-integrated twisted light generator,coupling free-space linear polarization into an optical vortex carrying 1 h orbital angular momentum(OAM),is also reported to validate the mode-control flexibility.This comprehensive method may motivate compact wavelength/polarization(de)multiplexers,multifunctional mode converters,on-chip OAM generators for photonic integrated circuits,and high-speed optical telecommunications.YUAN MENG ZHOUTIAN LIU ZHENWEI XIE RIDE WANG TIANCHENG QI FUTAI HU HYUNSEOK KIM QIRONG XIAO XING FU QIANG WU SANG-HOON BAE MALI GONG XIAOCONG YUAN 2020Photonics Research2020,8,4:8

9Full-space Cloud of Random Points with a Scrambling Metasurface显示文摘With the rapid progress in computer science,including artificial intelligence,big data and cloud computing,full-space spot generation can be pivotal to many practical applications,such as facial recognition,motion detection,augmented reality,etc.These opportunities may be achieved by using diffractive optical elements(DOEs)or light detection and ranging(LIDAR).However,DOEs suffer from intrinsic limitations,such as demanding depth-controlled fabrication techniques,large thicknesses(more than the wavelength),Lambertian operation only in half space,etc.LIDAR nevertheless relies on complex and bulky scanning systems,which hinders the miniaturization of the spot generator.Here,inspired by a Lambertian scatterer,we report a Hermitian-conjugate metasurface scrambling the incident light to a cloud of random points in full space with compressed information density,functioning in both transmission and reflection spaces.Over 4044 random spots are experimentally observed in the entire space,covering angles at nearly 90°.Our scrambling metasurface is made of amorphous silicon with a uniform subwavelength height,a nearly continuous phase coverage,a lightweight,flexible design,and low-heat dissipation.Thus,it may be mass produced by and integrated into existing semiconductor foundry designs.Our work opens important directions for emerging 3D recognition sensors,such as motion sensing,facial recognition,and other applications.Zile Li Qi Dai Muhammad Q.Mehmood Guangwei Hu Boris Luk’yanchuk Jin Tao Chenglong Hao Inki Kim Heonyeong Jeong Guoxing Zheng Shaohua Yu Andrea Alù Junsuk Rho Cheng-Wei Qiu 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:6
10Risk factor for ischemic-type biliary lesion after ABO-incompatible living donor liver transplantation显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the risk factors for ischemic-type biliary lesion(ITBL) after ABO-incompatible(ABO-I) adult living donor liver transplantation(ALDLT).METHODS: Among 141 ALDLTs performed in our hospital between 2008 and 2014, 27(19%) were ABO-I ALDLT and 114 were ABO-identical/compatible ALDLT. In this study, we extensively analyzed the clinico-pathological data of the 27 ABO-I recipients to determine the risk factors for ITBL after ABO-I ALDLT. All ABO-I ALDLT recipients underwent an identical B-cell depletion protocol with preoperative rituximab, plasma exchange(PE), and operative splenectomy. The median follow-up period after transplantation was 26 mo. The clinical outcomes of the 27 ABO-I ALDLT recipients were compared with those of 114 ABO-identical/compatible ALDLT recipients.RESULTS: ITBL occurred in four recipients(14.8%) between 45 and 112 d after ABO-I ALDLT. The overall survival rates were not different between ABO-I ALDLT and ABO-identical/compatible ALDLT(P = 0.303). Among the ABO-I ALDLT recipients, there was no difference between patients with ITBL and those without ITBL in terms of B-cell and T-cell count, serum isoagglutinin titers, number of PEs, operative time and transfusion, use of graft infusion therapy, or number of remnant B-cell follicles and plasma cells in the spleen. However, the perioperative NK cell counts in the blood of patients with ITBL were significantly higher than those in the patients without ITBL(P < 0.05). Preoperative NK cell count > 150/μL and postoperative NK cell count > 120/μL were associated with greater relative risks(RR) for development of ITBL(RR = 20 and 14.3, respectively, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: High NK cell counts in a transplant recipient's blood are associated with ITBL after ABO-I ALDLT. 17Reversible SUMOylation of FHY1 Regulates Phytochrome A Signaling in Arabidopsis显示文摘In response to far-red light(FR),FAR-RED ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL 1(FHY1)transports the photoactivated phytochrome A(phyA),the primary FR photoreceptor,into the nucleus,where it initiates FR signaling in plants.Light promotes the 26S proteasome-mediated degradation of FHY1,which desensitizes FR signaling,but the underlying regulatory mechanism remains largely unknown.Here,we show that reversible SUMOylation of FHY1 tightly regulates this process.Lysine K32(K32)and K103 are major SUMOylation sites of FHY1.We found that FR exposure promotes the SUMOylation of FHY1,which accelerates its degradation.Furthermore,we discovered that ARABIDOPSIS SUMO PROTEASE 1(ASP1)interacts with FHY1 in the nucleus under FR and facilitates its deSUMOylation.FHY1 was strongly SUMOylated and its protein level was decreased in the asp1-1 loss-of-function mutant compared with that in the wild type under FR.Consistently,asp1-1 seedlings exhibited a decreased sensitivity to FR,suggesting that ASP1 plays an important role in the maintenance of proper FHY1 levels under FR.Genetic analysis further revealed that ASP1 regulates FR signaling through an FHY1-and phyA-dependent pathway.Interestingly,We found that continuous FR inhibits ASP1 accumulation,perhaps contributing to the desensitization of FR signaling.Taken together,these results indicate that FR-induced SUMOylation and ASP1-dependent deSUMOylation of FHY1 represent a key regulatory mechanism that fine-tunes FR signaling.Gao-Ping Qu Hong Li Xiao-Li Lin Xiangxiong Kong Zi-Liang Hu Yin Hua Jin Yu Liu Hang-Lin Song Dae Heon Kim Rongcheng Lin Jigang Li Jing Bo Jin 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,6:3
182D-ultrathin MXene/DOXjade platform for iron chelation chemo-photothermal therapy显示文摘An increased demand for iron is a hallmark of cancer cells and is thought necessary to promote high cell proliferation,tumor progression and metastasis.This makes iron metabolism an attractive therapeutic target.Unfortunately,current iron-based therapeutic strategies often lack effectiveness and can elicit off-target toxicities.We report here a dual-therapeutic prodrug,DOXjade,that allows for iron chelation chemo-photothermal cancer therapy.This prodrug takes advantage of the clinically approved iron chelator deferasirox(ExJade®)and the topoisomerase 2 inhibitor,doxorubicin(DOX).Loading DOXjade onto ultrathin 2D Ti_(3)C_(2) MXene nanosheets produces a construct,Ti_(3)C_(2)-PVP@DOXjade,that allows the iron chelation and chemotherapeutic functions of DOXjade to be photo-activated at the tumor sites,while potentiating a robust photothermal effect with photothermal conversion efficiencies of up to 40%.Antitumor mechanistic investigations reveal that upon activation,Ti_(3)C_(2)-PVP@DOXjade serves to promote apoptotic cell death and downregulate the iron depletion-induced iron transferrin receptor(TfR).A tumor pH-responsive iron chelation/photothermal/chemotherapy antitumor effect was achieved both in vitro and in vivo.The results of this study highlight what may constitute a promising iron chelation-based phototherapeutic approach to cancer therapy.Yunjie Xu Yingwei Wang Jusung An Adam C.Sedgwick Mingle Li Jianlei Xie Weibin Hu Jianlong Kang Sajal Sen Axel Steinbrueck Bin Zhang Lijun Qiao Swelm Wageh Jonathan F.Arambula Liping Liu Han Zhang Jonathan L.Sessler Jong Seung Kim 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,8:2
19Effects of feeding tyrosine and phenylalanine on the accumulation of phenylethanoid glycosides to Cistanche deserticola cell suspension culture显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of feeding phenylalanine(Phe) and tyrosine(Tyr) on the accumulation of total phenolic compounds and four phenylethanoid glycosides(PeGs) to a cell suspension culture of the parasitic plant Cistanche deserticola. METHOD: A cell suspension culture of C. deserticola was established and precursors of different concentrations were fed. In each group, the cell was sampled at the 24th day after inoculation. The content of total phenolic compounds and four PeGs compounds were determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu method and an HPLC method, respectively. RESULTS: In the Phe fed cells, the maximum PeGs yield was achieved when Phe was fed at 1.5 mmol·L-1 and the yield reached 1.13 times the control cell concentration. In the Tyr fed cells, the maximum yield of PeGs was 1.60 times of control when 0.75 mmol·L-1 Tyr was fed to the cells. Furthermore, it was found that the salidroside yield was 4.01 times of control group when 5 mmol·L-1 Tyr was fed. 20Influence of Coanda surface curvature on performance of bladeless fan显示文摘The unique Coanda surface has a great influence on the performance of bladeless fan.However,there is few studies to explain the relationship between the performance and Coanda surface curvature at present.In order to gain a qualitative understanding of effect of the curvature on the performance of bladeless fan,numerical studies are performed in this paper.Firstly,three-dimensional numerical simulation is done by Fluent software.For the purpose to obtain detailed information of the flow field around the Coanda surface,two-dimensional numerical simulation is also conducted.Five types of Coanda surfaces with different curvature are designed,and the flow behaviour and the performance of them are analyzed and compared with those of the prototype.The analysis indicates that the curvature of Coanda surface is strongly related to blowing performance,It is found that there is an optimal curvature of Coanda surfaces among the studied models.Simulation result shows that there is a special low pressure region.With increasing curvature in Y direction,several low pressure regions gradually enlarged,then begin to merge slowly,and finally form a large area of low pressure.From the analyses of streamlines and velocity angle,it is found that the magnitude of the curvature affects the flow direction and reasonable curvature can induce fluid flow close to the wall.Thus,it leads to that the curvature of the streamlines is consistent with that of Coanda surface.Meanwhile,it also causes the fluid movement towards the most suitable direction.This study will provide useful information to performance improvements of bladeless fans.LI Guoqi HU Yongjun JIN Yingzi Toshiaki Setoguchi Heuy Dong Kim 2014Journal of Thermal Science2014,23,5:2
