Permian–Triassic Conodonts from Dajiang(Guizhou, South China) and Their Implication for the Age of Microbialite Deposition in the Aftermath of the End-Permian Mass Extinction显示文摘The widespread microbialites deposition that followed the End-Permian mass extinction in the Tethyan realm have been intensively studied because of the evidence they provide on the nature of this crisis and its aftermath. However, the age of the microbialite event remains controversial. New conodont collection across the Permian–Triassic(P–T) transition from Dajiang(Guizhou Province, South China) in this study enable us to discriminate four conodont zones, in ascending order, they are: Hindeodus parvus zone, Isarcicella lobata zone, Isarcicella isarcica zone and Hindeodus sosioensis zone. The age of microbialite in the P–T transition at the Dajiang Section is considered to be within the Hindeodus parvus zone and thus to clearly post-date the main extinction crisis. Reviewing the age of onset of microbialites throughout the Tethyan regions reveals two different ages: a Hindeodus changxingensis zone age is dominant in south-western and westernmost Tethys, whilst most other regions show microbialite deposition began in the Hindeodus parvus zone. Our investigation also indicates that two conodont changes occur at this time: an increase of hindeodid species immediately following a sequence boundary and the mass extinction, and a phase of extinction losses in the earliest Triassic Isarcicella isarcica zone during highstand development. | Haishui Jiang Xulong Lai Yadong Sun Paul B Wignall Jianbo Liu Chunbo Yan | 2014 | Journal of Earth Science2014,25,3: | 20
Size variation of the end Permian conodont Neogondolella at Meishan Section,Changxing,Zhejiang and its significance显示文摘This study is based on both a generic and species level investigation of the individual size of the latest Permian conodont Neogondolella Pa elements collected from Meishan Section A, Changxing, Zhejiang Province. In this study, an obvious size reduction of Neogondolella Pa elements within bed 24e of the upper Changxing Limestone is recognized. The size variation of the Neogon- dolella occurs simultaneously with some important events including the negative shift of δ 13C, change in the ratio of the abundance of cyanobacterial biomarkers versus that of other general bacterial biomarkers and the shallowing of the sea water. Through the investigation of the paleoenvironmental changes and the analysis of the paleoecology of the conodont genus Neogondolella, the authors propose that the major factors for the size reduction of species of the conodont genus Neogondolella are food shortages caused by the mass extinction, the shallowing of the sea water as well as the in- crease in opacity of the sea water during the end Permian. The same phenomenon of Neogondolella size reduction is also observed in preliminary research from the same horizon at Shangsi Section, Sichuan Province. All the evidence suggests that there was a mass extinction that occurred at the horizon of bed 24e, and the evidence supports the viewpoint of a multi-phase mass extinction during the Permian and Triassic transition in South China. | LUO Genming LAI Xulong JIANG Haishui ZHANG Kexin | 2006 | Science China Earth Sciences2006,49,4: | 14
The fluctuating environment associated with the episodic biotic crisis during the Permo/Triassic transition:Evidence from microbial biomarkers in Changxing,Zhejiang Province显示文摘The environmental conditions and the biotic crisis during the Permo-Triassic (Tr/P) transition received increasing attention in the past decades. Presented herein are the molecular fossil records of cyano-bacteria and green sulfur bacteria, the base of the marine ecosystem,to highlight the episodic nature of both the environment and the biotic crisis during this critical period. At least two episodes of cyano-bacterial expansion are documented by 2-methylhopanes ranging from C28 to C32 in carbon number, indicative of the instable marine ecosystem and the fluctuant aquatic nutrients. Meanwhile, the index of 2-alkyl-1,3,4-trimethylbenzenes (biomarkers of green sulfur bacteria) and the ratio of pristane to phy-tane (Pr/Ph) witness the fluctuation of sedimentary environmental redox conditions. The above mo-lecular evidence suggests the occurrence of highly fluctuating environmental conditions during the Tr/P transition, which is consistent with, and probably the cause of,the multi-phased biotic crisis and the prolonged faunal recovery. | HUANG XianYu JIAO Dan LU LiQiang XIE ShuCheng HUANG JunHua WANG YongBiao YIN HongFu WANG HongMei ZHANG KeXin LAI XuLong | 2007 | Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,7: | 10
The Relationship between the “Green-Bean Rock” Layers and Conodont Chiosella timorensis and Implications on Defining the Early–Middle Triassic Boundary in the Nanpanjiang Basin, South China显示文摘The Triassic 'Green-bean Rock'(GBR) layers were widely recognized around the Early–Middle Triassic boundary interval in the Nanpanjiang Basin, South China. To determine the precise relationship between the GBR layers and the first appearance datum(FAD) of the conodont Chiosella timorensis, four Lower–Middle Triassic sections from the Nanpanjiang Basin, including the Gaimao, Bianyang II, Zuodeng and Wantou sections have been studied in detail. Detailed conodont biostratigraphy convinces us that there is no exact temporal relationship between the GBR layers and first occurrence of Ch. timorensis. Moreover, the numbers of the GBR layers are different from the place to place within the Nanpanjiang Basin, and the time span of the GBR layers was much longer than previously estimated. Global correlations show that the FAD of Ch. timorensis is contemporaneous basinwide and worldwide and more suitable marker defining the Olenekian-Anisian boundary(Early–Middle Triassic boundary) than any other proxies. | Chunbo Yan Haishui Jiang Xulong Lai Yadong Sun Bo Yang Lina Wang | 2015 | Journal of Earth Science2015,26,2: | 7

Latest Wuchiapingian to Earliest Triassic Conodont Zones and δ13 Ccarb Isotope Excursions from Deep-Water Sections in Western Hubei Province, South China显示文摘Deep-water facies sections have advantages of recording complete information across the Permian-Triassic boundary(PTB). Here we present a detailed study on the conodont biostratigraphy and carbon isotope profile ranges from the Wuchiapingian-Changhsingian boundary(WCB) to the PTB of two deep-water facies sections at Zhuqiao and Shiligou in the Middle Yangtze region, western Hubei, South China. Fifteen species and three genera are identified. Eight conodont zones are recognized which in ascending order are the Clarkina orientalis, C. wangi, C. subcarinata, C. changxingensis, C. yini, C. meishanensis, Hindeodus parvus and Isarcicella isarcica zones. The onset of deposition of the deep-water siliceous strata of Dalong Formation in western Hubei began in the Late Wuchiapingian and persisted to the Late Changhsingian. Carbon isotope negative excursions occur near both the WCB and PTB in both sections. The WCB δ13 Ccarb negative excursion is in the C. orientalis and C. wangi zones. The PTB δ13 Ccarb negative excursion began in the C. yini Zone and extended to the I. isarcica Zone. The absence of several Changhsingian zones may indicate the difficulty of extracting conodonts from siliceous strata or the presence of an intra-Changhsingian hiatus. | Bo Yang Hanxiao Li Paul B. | 7 | End-Permian conodont fauna from Dongpan section:Correlation between the deep-and shallow-water facies显示文摘This paper systematically investigated the conodonts from the uppermost Permian to the Lower Triassic at the Dongpan Section, Southern Guangxi, South China, and obtained abundant Late Permian conodonts from the syndepositional limestone lenses of beds 3 and 5-2 at this section. One genus and eight species of conodont P1 element including one new species, Neogondolella dongpanensis sp. nov., have been identified. The feature of conodont fauna indicates that conodonts collected from beds 3 and 5 at the Dongpan Section belong to the Neogondolella yini conodont zone, and correspond to bed 24 at the Meishan Section. Based on these conodont data, we suggest that the Neoalbaillella optima radiolarian zone at the Dongpan Section at least extended to the upper part of the N. yini conodont zone. | GenMing Luo (1) (2) XuLong Lai (1) (2) QingLai Feng (1) (3) HaiShui Jiang (1) (2) Paul Wignall (4) KeXin Zhang (1) (3) YaDong Sun (2) Jun Wu (1) (2) | 2008 | Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,11: | 2
Roadian-Wordian(Middle Permian)Conodont Biostratigraphy,Sedimentary Facies and Paleotemperature Evolution at the Shuixiakou Section,Xikou Area,Southeastern Qinling Region,China显示文摘Focusing on the Shuixiakou Section(Xikou area,Zhen’an County,Shaanxi Province, southeastern Qinling region,China),the Roadian-Wordian conodonts are investigated.More than 2000 conodont elements including 6 genera and 14 species have been obtained.Based on these materials, the Guadalupian Jinogondolella nankingensis and J.aserrata zones have been recognized. The Roadian-Wordian boundary is tentatively defined by the first occurrence of J.aserrata in the lower part of UnitⅢin the Shuixiakou Formation. The sedimentary succession of Xikou area records similar sea-level changes to those observed in Laibin area(South China). The 40 m-thick bioclastic limestone of UnitⅣin this section can be correlated with the reefs of Bed 114 in Laibin area.A temperature drop indicated byδ18Oapatite values suggests this Wordian interval coincides with a period of glaciation and global regression. | Baojin Wu Hanxiao Li Michael M.Joachimski Paul B.Wignall Haishui Jiang Lina Wang Xianlang Wu Xulong Lai Jiaxin Yan | 2021 | Journal of Earth Science2021,32,3: | 1

Ancient DNA sequences from Coelodonta antiquitatis in China reveal its divergence and phylogeny显示文摘Ancient DNA data have supported a sister relationship between woolly rhinoceros and extant Sumatran rhinoceros. This relationship has been used to explore the divergent times for the woolly rhinoceros from their relatives.Complete and partial ancient DNA sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome b(cyt b)gene were retrieved from bones of the late Pleistocene Coelodonta antiquitatis excavated from northern and northeastern China. The newly obtained sequences together with the European and northern Asian Coelodonta antiquitatis sequences from GenBank were used to estimate the evolutionary divergence time.Phylogenetic analyses showed the exchange of genetic information between the Chinese individuals and Coelodonta antiquitatis of north Asia, which also indicated a more recent evolutionary timescale(3.8–4.7 Ma)than previous molecular estimations(17.5–22.8 or 21–26 Ma)for woolly rhinoceros based on the fossil calibration of outgroups. This new timescale was more consistent with the fossil record of the earliest known genus Coelodonta. | YUAN JunXia SHENG GuiLian HOU XinDong SHUANG XiaoYan YI Jian YANG Hong LAI XuLong | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,3: | 1

First Records of Late Triassic Conodont Fauna andδ13Ccarb from the Dengdengqiao Section,Dangchang County,Gansu Province,Northwestern China显示文摘Based on a study of 49 conodont and 57 geochemical samples from the Upper Triassic,carbonate-dominated Dengdengqiao Formation,Qinling Basin,China, the Carnian conodonts and carbon isotope records are first reported. Two genera and four species have been identified amongst 87 conodont elements:Mosherella praebudaensis,Mo.longnanensis sp.nov.,Mo.sp.,and'Misikella'longidentata.The presence of Mo.praebudaensis indicates that the lower part(bed 2)of the formation is attributable to the Julian(lower Carnian)substage.A radiolarian fauna identified in a previous study belongs to the upper Carnian, but the sampling horizon is unclear.Theδ13Ccarb curve shows a~1.8‰negative excursion beginning from upper part of bed 3,but its stratigraphic location is uncertain. The Dengdengqiao Formation is clearly at least partly of Carnian age but could include younger strata. The abundant calcareous algae at the section is probably due to some transport rather than preserved in site. The unusual ecosystem with rare marine organisms may reflect long-term stressful and unfavorable conditions at Dengdengqiao. | Hanxiao Li Miaoyan Wang Muhui Zhang Paul B.Wignall Manuel Rigo Yanlong Chen Xianlang Wu Zhumin Ouyang Baojin Wu Zhaoyang Yi Zaitian Zhang Xulong Lai | 2021 | Journal of Earth Science2021,32,3: | 0
Effects of local thickness defects on the buckling of micro-beam显示文摘A buckling model of Timoshenko micro-beam with local thickness defects is established based on a modified gradient elasticity.By introducing the local thickness defects function of the micro-beam,the variable coefficient differential equations of the buckling problem are obtained with the variational principle.Combining the eigensolution series of the complete micro-beam with the Galerkin method,we obtain the critical load and buckling modes of the micro-beam with defects. The results show that the depth and location of the defect are the main factors affecting the critical load, and the combined effect of boundary conditions and defects can significantly change the buckling mode of the micro-beam.The effect of defect location on buckling is related to the axial gradient of the rotation angle, and defects should be avoided at the maximum axial gradient of the rotation angle. The model and method are also applicable to the static deformation and vibration of the micro-beam. | Andi LAI Bing ZHAO Xulong PENG Chengyun LONG | 2022 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2022,43,5: | 0
