1Hypoxia increases adipogenesis and affects adipocytokine production in orbital fibroblasts-a possible explanation of the link between smoking and Graves' ophthalmopathy显示文摘AIM:To assess the effects of hypoxia on human orbital fibroblasts(OF)on adipogenesis and adipocytokine production.METHODS:Human OF were derived from tissues obtained from patients with Graves'ophthalmopathy(GO)and from patients without known thyroid diseases undergoing blepharoplasty.The OF were cultured separately under normoxic and hypoxic conditions.Comparisons of adipocytokine concentrations using multiplex ELISA and lipid accumulation in the cells using Oil Red O staining were subsequently performed.RESULTS:There was increased adipogenesis in OF from GO subject when exposed to hypoxic culture conditions.This was not observed in OF from normal controls.Hypoxia led to an increase in leptin and a decrease in MCP-1 secretion in OF cultures.CONCLUSION:Hypoxia induces adipogenesis in OF and may represent a mechanism by which smoking contributes to deterioration of GO.We also found novel changes to leptin and MCP-1 production in OF cultures exposed to hypoxia suggesting important roles of these cytokines in the disease process.Chiaw Ling Chng Oi Fah Lai Charmaine Sze-Min Chew Yu Pei Peh Stephanie Man-Chung Fook-Chong Lay Leng Seah Daphne Hsu-Chin Khoo 2014International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,3:10
2Velocity forecasts using a combined deep learning model in hybrid electric vehicles with V2V and V2I communication显示文摘Vehicle velocity forecast is an important clue in improving the performance of energy management in hybrid electric vehicles(HEV). This paper presents a new combined model for predicting vehicle’s velocity time series. The main features of the model are to combine the feature extraction capability of deep restricted Boltzmann machines(DBM) and sequence pattern predicting capability of bidirectional long short-term memory(BLSTM). Hence, the model is named as DBMBLSTM. In addition, the DRMBLSTM model utilizes the vehicle driving information and roadside infrastructure information provided respectively through vehicle-to-vehicle(V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure(V2I) communication channels to predict vehicle velocity at various length of prediction horizon. Furthermore, the predictions results of this study are compared with the state of the art of vehicle velocity forecasts. The root mean square error(RMSE) is used as an evaluation criteria of predictions accuracy. Finally,these compared prediction model are applied in model predictive control(MPC) energy management strategy for the verifications of fuel economy improvement of a HEV. Simulation results confirm that the proposed combined deep learning model performs better than other five prediction methods. 3Copula-based identification of the non-stationarity of the relation between runoff and sediment load显示文摘It is important to identify the non-stationarity in the relation between runoff and sediment load under the backdrop of the changing environment.This relation helps to further understand the mechanisms of runoff and sediment yield.A copula-based method was used to detect possible change points in the relation between runoff and sediment load in the Wei River Basin(WRB),China,where soil erosion is a very severe issue.The modified Mann-Kendall trend test method was applied to obtain the trends of runoff and sediment load spanning 1960-2010 at monthly and annual timescales.Finally,the causes of the identified non-stationarity of the relation between runoff and sediment load were roughly analyzed from the perspective of climate change and human activities.Results indicated that:(1)the runoff and sediment load in the Jinghe and Wei rivers were generally characterized by noticeably decreasing trends at both monthly and annual timescales;(2)both the Jinghe and Wei rivers had a common change point(2002),implying that the stationarity of the relation between runoff and sediment load in the Jinghe and Wei River was invalid;(3)human activities including increasing water consumption and growing application of soil conservation practices are dominant factors resulting in non-stationarity in the relation between runoff and sediment load in the WRB.This study provides a new idea for identifying the non-stationarity of multivariate relation in the hydro-meteorological field under the background of the changing environment.Shengzhi Huang Pei Li Qiang Huang Guoyong Leng 2017International Journal of Sediment Research2017,32,2:5
4Study on the inter-village space of a traditional village group in Huizhou Region:Hongguan Village group as an example显示文摘Village groups are a common phenomenon in Huizhou Region,a historical region in eastern China where shared inter-village spaces play important roles in linking villages.This study analyzes the spatial layouts and characteristics of the inter-village space in the Hongguan village group in Wuyuan County,Jiangxi Province.A comprehensive literature review and the results of field research,qualitative analysis,and quantitative analysis prove that the regional spatial structure is maintained among inter-village space,landmarks,villagers,and villages within the village group.Through a summarized analysis of nine research slices,this study complements previous Huizhou Village studies.It provides valuable information for the preservation of traditional villages and reveals the hidden rules,potential order,and social meaning of inter-village spaces.Yifei Pei Kai Gong Jiawei Leng 2020Frontiers of Architectural Research2020,9,3:3
5Validation of Landsat land surface temperature product in the conterminous United States using in situ measurements from SURFRAD, ARM, and NDBC sites显示文摘Since 1982,Landsat series of satellite sensors continuously acquired thermal infrared images of the Earth’s land surface.In this study,Landsat 5,7,and 8 land surface temperature(LST)products in the conterminous United States from 2009 to 2019 were validated using in situ measurements collected at 6 SURFRAD(Surface Radiation Budget Network)sites,6 ARM(Atmospheric Radiation Measurement)sites,and 9 NDBC(National Data Buoy Center)sites.The results indicate that a relatively consistent performance among Landsat 5,7,and 8 LST products is obtained for most sites due to the consistent LST retrieval algorithm in conjunction with the same atmospheric compensation and land surface emissivity(LSE)correction methods for Landsat 5,7,and 8 sensors.Large bias and root mean square error(RMSE)of Landsat LST product are obtained at some vegetated sites due to incorrect LSE estimation where LSE is invariant with the increasing of normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI).Except for the sites with incorrect LSE estimation,a mean bias(RMSE)of the differences between Landsat LST and in situ LST is 1.0 K(2.1 K)over snow-free land surfaces,−1.1 K(1.6 K)over snow surfaces,and−0.3 K(1.1 K)over water surfaces.Si-Bo Duan Zhao-Liang Li Wei Zhao Penghai Wu Cheng Huang Xiao-Jing Han Maofang Gao Pei Leng Guofei Shang 2021International Journal of Digital Earth2021,14,5:2
6Estimation of Surface Soil Moisture from ASAR Dual-Polarized Data in the Middle Stream of the Heihe River Basin显示文摘In this paper, a new approach was introduced to estimate surface soil moisture using alternating polarization (AP) data of advanced synthetic aperture radar (ASAR). First, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) backscattering characteristic of bare surface at C band was simulated using advanced integrated equation model (AIEM), and four bare surface backscattering models with different polarization were established. In addition, with simultaneous equations of the former four formulas, the surface roughness was eliminated, and models used to estimate soil moisture on bare surface were derived from simulated multipolarization and multiangle ASAR-AP data. Based on these, the best combination of polarization and incident angle was determined. Finally, soil moisture in the middle stream of the Heihe River Basin was estimated. 10Size and structure tuning of FePt nanoparticles on hollow mesoporous carbon spheres as efficient catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction显示文摘Finding and designing cathode oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) catalysts with high activity and stability in acidic electrolyte is essential for the large-scale application of fuel cells and metal-air batteries.Pt-based alloys have emerged as potential electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction.Herein,we adapted a simple pyrolytic reduction method to grow FePt nanoalloys on hollow mesoporous carbon supports.Benefiting from the ultra-high specific surface of the hollow mesoporous carbon,the in situ formed FePt NPs were homogenously deposited on the carbon supports with size smaller than5 nm.The optimized FePt-HMCS showed a remarkably increased mass activity(MA) of 0.582 A·mg^(-1)_(Pt) at 0.75 V in ORR,being 6.3 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C(0.093 A·mg^(-1)_(Pt)).Meanwhile,the FePt NPs showed negligible decay in mass activity with 21 mV of negative shift in the half-wave potential after 5000 electrochemical cycles,which is more stable than that of commercial Pt/C(6.6% decay in MA with 30 mV of negative shift).The study demonstrated a simple strategy for controlling the alloy size with enhanced metal-support interactions to boost their promising application in fuel cells.Cheng Yang Han-Bin Wang Pei Liang Bin-Feng Wu Lei Zhao Ping-Shu Leng Lin Lv Hou-Zhao Wan Hao Wang 2023Rare Metals2023,42,6:0
11Planting Adaptability of Brassica napobrassica cv. Huaxi Under Economic Fruit Forest显示文摘The growth speed,fresh grass yield,nutritional components,soil nutrient variation and economic benefit of Brassica napobrassica cv. Huaxi under different planting patterns( drilling,hole sowing and seedling transplanting) were analyzed by a test of interplanting B. napobrassica cv. Huaxi under economic fruit forest,to solve the contradiction between food and feed during rapid development of ecological animal husbandry and improve land utilization rate. The comprehensive performance of B. napobrassica cv. Huaxi was good under the three planting patterns,and the comprehensive performance of B. napobrassica cv. Huaxi under the seedling transplanting pattern was the best among the three planting patterns. The fresh grass yield and net profit of B. napobrassica cv. Huaxi under the seedling transplanting pattern can reach 125 580. 0 kg/hm^2 and 16 674. 0 Yuan/hm^2,respectively. Interplanting B. napobrassica cv. 12Effect of Microwave Power and Clamping Pressure on the Microwave Welding of Polypropylene Using Silicon Carbide Nanowhiskers as Microwave Susceptor显示文摘Due to their excellent dielectric properties and the rapid response to microwave irradiation,silicon carbide nanowhiskers(SiCNWs)were employed as microwave susceptor in this study to absorb microwave and locally melt the surrounding polypropylene(PP)substrates for the joining of PP substrates.Complete welded joint is formed after the melted PP was cooled and resolidified.Other than microwave susceptor,SiCNWs also acted as the nanofillers in strengthening the welded joint through the formation of SiCNWs reinforced PP nanocomposite at the interface of PP substrates.Besides,the effect of microwave power on the microwave welding of PP substrates using SiCNWs as susceptor was studied and reported.It was found that the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of the welded joint improved as microwave power increased.However,it deteriorates the flexibility of the welded joint as high stiffness SiCNWs were incorporated deeper into the PP matrix which restricted the PP chain mobility.Aside from microwave power,clamping pressure is also critical in determining the mechanical properties of a welded joint.When compared to unclamped welded joint,the tensile strength,modulus of elasticity and flexibility of welded joint subjected to clamping pressure improved drastically.Moreover,the tensile strength of welded joint increased when the clamping pressure was increased from P1 to P3,but decreased when the clamping pressure was further increased to P4 due to the occurrence of flashing at welded joint.The formation mechanism of SiCNWs reinforced PP welded joint was also proposed in this study.Compared to conventional welding,this welding process is easy,straightforward and is able to produce welded joint with outstanding mechanical properties via precise controlling of the processing parameters.Thus,microwave welding is thought to offer an option for the joining of thermoplastics and other applications.Phey Yee Foong Chun Hong Voon Bee Ying Lim Pei Leng Teh Mohd Afendi Bin Rojan Nor Azizah Parmin Subash C.B.Gopinath Mohd Khairuddin Md Arshad Foo Wah Low Savisha Mahalingam Abreeza Manap Ruslinda A.Rahim Uda Hashim 2022Chinese Journal of Polymer Science2022,40,11:0

14Applying Hybrid Clustering in Pulsar Candidate Sifting with Multi-modality for FAST Survey显示文摘Pulsar search is always the basis of pulsar navigation,gravitational wave detection and other research topics.Currently,the volume of pulsar candidates collected by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST)shows an explosive growth rate that has brought challenges for its pulsar candidate filtering system.Particularly,the multi-view heterogeneous data and class imbalance between true pulsars and non-pulsar candidates have negative effects on traditional single-modal supervised classification methods.In this study,a multi-modal and semi-supervised learning based on a pulsar candidate sifting algorithm is presented,which adopts a hybrid ensemble clustering scheme of density-based and partition-based methods combined with a feature-level fusion strategy for input data and a data partition strategy for parallelization.Experiments on both High Time Resolution Universe SurveyⅡ(HTRU2)and actual FAST observation data demonstrate that the proposed algorithm could excellently identify pulsars:On HTRU2,the precision and recall rates of its parallel mode reach0.981 and 0.988 respectively.On FAST data,those of its parallel mode reach 0.891 and 0.961,meanwhile,the running time also significantly decreases with the increment of parallel nodes within limits.Thus,we can conclude that our algorithm could be a feasible idea for large scale pulsar candidate sifting for FAST drift scan observation.Zi-Yi You Yun-Rong Pan Zhi Ma Li Zhang Shuo Xiao Dan-Dan Zhang Shi-Jun Dang Ru-Shuang Zhao Pei Wang Ai-Jun Dong Jia-Tao Jiang Ji-Bing Leng Wei-An Li Si-Yao Li 2024Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics2024,24,3:0
15Performances of six reanalysis profile products in the atmospheric correction of passive microwave data for estimating land surface temperature under cloudy-sky conditions显示文摘Passive microwave(PMW)observations from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 provide a way to obtain cloudy land surface temperatures(LSTs).However,atmospheric corrections must be performed on cloudy LSTs due to the cloud effect at higher frequencies.In this paper,six reanalyzed profiles,including the fifth-generation European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis(ERA5),Interim Reanalysis(ERA-Interim),Japanese 55-year Reanalysis Data(JRA-55),Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Application V2(MERRA2),National Centers for Environmental Prediction(NCEP)/Final Operational Global Analysis(FNL),and NCEP/Global Forecasting System(GFS),were compared with 2829 radiosonde profiles derived from the University of Wyoming.Then,their performances in correcting the atmospheric effects of LSTs at cloudy skies were investigated.Results showed that the ERA5 had the best accuracy in revealing the actual atmospheric conditions,and the RMSEs of transmittance,downward radiance,and upward radiance were about 0.007,2.01,and 1.89 K,respectively.The RMSEs between the estimated LSTs and referenced LSTs varied from 3.15 K of the ERA5 to 6.12 K of the NCEP/FNL,indicating the ERA5 can be recommended for the atmospheric correction of PMW-based LST retrievals.Additionally,transmittance accuracy plays an essential role in impacting the LST retrievals in any weather.Xin-Ming Zhu Xiao-Ning Song Pei Leng Fang-Cheng Zhou Liang Gao Da Guo 2022International Journal of Digital Earth2022,15,1:0
16Whole-genome sequencing in medicinal plants:current progress and prospect显示文摘Advancements in genomics have dramatically accelerated the research on medicinal plants,and the development of herbgenomics has promoted the“Project of 1K Medicinal Plant Genome”to decipher their genetic code.However,it is difficult to obtain their high-quality whole genomes because of the prevalence of polyploidy and/or high genomic heterozygosity.Whole genomes of 123 medicinal plants were published until September 2022.These published genome sequences were investigated in this review,covering their classification,research teams,ploidy,medicinal functions,and sequencing strategies.More than 1,000 institutes or universities around the world and 50 countries are conducting research on medicinal plant genomes.Diploid species account for a majority of sequenced medicinal plants.The whole genomes of plants in the Poaceae family are the most studied.Almost 40%of the published papers studied species with tonifying,replenishing,and heat-cleaning medicinal effects.Medicinal plants are still in the process of domestication as compared with crops,thereby resulting in unclear genetic backgrounds and the lack of pure lines,thus making their genomes more difficult to complete.In addition,there is still no clear routine framework for a medicinal plant to obtain a high-quality whole genome.Herein,a clear and complete strategy has been originally proposed for creating a high-quality whole genome of medicinal plants.Moreover,whole genome-based biological studies of medicinal plants,including breeding and biosynthesis,were reviewed.We also advocate that a research platform of model medicinal plants should be established to promote the genomics research of medicinal plants.Yifei Pei Liang Leng Wei Sun Baocai Liu Xue Feng Xiwen Li Shilin Chen 2024Science China(Life Sciences)2024,67,2:0
