Effect of roadway turnings on gas explosion propagation characteristics in coal mines显示文摘In order to reveal the effect of turnings on explosion propagation, experiments were performed in three different pipes (single bend, U-shaped pipe and Z-shaped pipe). Flame and pressure transducers were used to track the velocity at the explosion front. When the pipes were filled with methane, the explosion strength was significantly enhanced due to the turbulence induced by increasing the number of turnings, while the flame speed (S f) and peak overpressure (DP max) increased dramatically. In addition, the strength of the explosion increased in violence as a function of the number of turnings. However, when the bend was without methane, the turnings weakened the strength of the explosion compared with the ordinary pipe, shown by the decrease in the values of DP max and S f . In addition, the propagation characteristics in a U-shaped pipe were similar to those in a Z-shaped pipe and the values of DP max and S f were also close. The results show that the explosion propagation characteristics largely depend on gas distribution in the pipes and the number of turnings. The different directions of the turnings had no effect.Zhu Chuanjie Lin Baiquan Ye Qing Zhai Cheng 2011Mining Science and Technology2011,21,3:12
Variable frequency of pulse hydraulic fracturing for improving permeability in coal seam显示文摘Variable frequency,a new pattern of pulse hydraulic fracturing,is presented for improving permeability in coal seam.A variable frequency pulse hydraulic fracturing testing system was built, the mould with triaxial loading was developed.Based on the monitor methods of pressure sensor and acoustic emission, the trials of two patterns of pulse hydraulic fracturing of single frequency and variable frequency were carried out,and at last fracturing mechanism was analyzed. The results show that the effect of variable frequency on fracture extension is better than that of single frequency based on the analysis of macroscopic figures and AE.And the shortage of single frequency is somewhat remedied when the frequency is variable.Under variable frequency, the pressure process can be divided into three stages:low frequency band, pressure stability band and high frequency band, and rupture pressure of the sample is smaller than that of the condition of single frequency.Based on the Miner fatigue theory, the effect of different loading sequences on sample rupture is discussed and the results show that it is better to select the sequence of low frequency at first and then high frequency. Our achievements can give a basis for the improvement and optimization of the pulse hydraulic fracturing technology.Li Quangui Lin Baiquan Zhai Cheng Ni Guanhua Peng Shen Sun Chen Cheng Yanying 2013International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2013,23,6:12
Effect of variation in gas distribution on explosion propagation characteristics in coal mines显示文摘In order to investigate the effect of variation in the distribution of gas on explosion propagation characteristics in coal mines, experiments were carried out in two different channels with variation in gas concentration and geometry. Flame and pressure transducers were used to track the explosion front velocity. The flame speed (Sf) showed a slight downward trend while the methane concentration varied from 10% to 3% in the experimental channel. The peak overpressure (Pmax) dropped dramatically when compared with normal conditions. As well, the values of Pmax and Sf decreased when the methane concentration dropped from 8% to 6%. The flame speed in the channel, connected to a cylinder with a length varying from 0.5 to 2 m, was greater than that in the normal channel. The peak overpressure was also higher than that under normal conditions because of a higher flame speed and stronger pressure piling up. The values of Pmax and Sf increased with an increase in cylinder length. The research results indicate that damage caused by explosions can be reduced by decreasing the gas concentration, which should be immediately detected in roadways with large cross-sections because of the possibility of greater destruction caused by more serious explosions.ZHU Chuanjie 2010Mining Science and Technology2010,20,4:11
A new technology for coal and gas control based on the in situ stress distribution and the roadway layout显示文摘An auxiliary gas control technology is described that can reduce coal and gas outburst accidents when there is no existing protective coal seam and gas pre-draining is not effective.Numerical simulation methods were used to study the stress distribution ahead of the roadway face for different in situ stresses. The results from the simulation can then provide a new gas control technology. The results show that a high stress concentration, high stresses, and high displacement gradients appear ahead of the roadway face when the maximum in situ stress is aligned perpendicular to the roadway axis. The risk of gas outburst is higher when the stresses decrease rapidly over distance and when the release of more energy occurs immediately after driving the roadway. The gas outburst risk is much smaller when the in situ stress is aligned parallel to the roadway axis.During design of the coal mine most of the coal roadways should be arranged to parallel the maximum in situ stress. This will decrease the outburst risk in general and may be considered a new gas outburst prevention method.Yang Wei Lin Baiquan Zhai Cheng Li Xianzhong Sun Xin Zhang Chao 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,2:11
A numerical simulation of the influence initial temperature has on the propagation characteristics of, and safe distance from, a gas explosion显示文摘A model roadway with a cross-sectional area of 80 mm 80 mm and a length of 100 m was used to estimate the overpressure, the temperature, the density, and the combustion rate during an explosion. Auto-ReaGas software was used for the calculations and the initial temperatures were 248, 268, 308, or 328 K. The methaneair mixture had a fuel concentration of 9.5% and the tunnel had a filling ratio of 10%. The results show that the safe distance necessary to avoid harm from the shock wave increases with increasing initial temperature. The distance where the peak overpressure begins to rise, and where the maximum value occurs, increases as the initial temperature increases. These are almost linear functions of the initial temperature. At locations before shock wave attenuation has occurred increasing the initial temperature linearly increases the maximum temperature at each point following along the tunnel. At the same time, the peak overpressure, the maximum density, and the maximum combustion rate decrease linearly. How-ever, after the shock wave has attenuated the attenuation extent of the peak overpressure decreases with an increase in initial temperature. The influence of the initial temperature on the explosion propagation depends on the combined effects of inhibiting and enhancing factors. The research results can provide a theoretical guidance for gas explosion disaster relief and treatment in underground coal mines.Jiang Bingyou Lin Baiquan Shi Shulei Zhu Chuanjie tiu Qian Zhai Cheng 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,3:10
Application of pressure relief and permeability increased by slotting a coal seam with a rotary type cutter working across rock layers显示文摘Pressure relief to increase permeability significantly improves gas extraction efficiency from coal seams. In this paper we report results from simulations using FLAC 3D code to analyze changes in coal displacement and stress after special drill slots were formed. We investigated the mechanism of pressure relief and permeability increase in a high-gas and low-permeability coal seam through the modeling of gas flow. This allows the development of the technology.Slotting across rock layers in the coal seam with a rotary type cutter was then applied in the field. The results show that pressure relief and permeability increases from slotting the coal seam can increase the transport and the fracture of the coal. This expands the range of pressure relief from the drilling and increases the exposed area of the seam. The total quantity of gas extracted from slotted bore holes was three times that seen with ordinary drilling. The concentration of gas extracted from the slotted drills was from two to three times that seen using ordinary drills. The gas flow was stable at 80%.Improved permeability and more efficient gas extraction are the result of the slotting. The roadway development rate is increased by 30-50% after gas drainage. This technology diminishes the lag between longwall production and roadway development and effectively prevents coal and gas outburst, which offers the prospect of broad application.Shen Chunming Lin Baiquan Meng Fanwei Zhang Qizhi Zhai Cheng 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,4:10
Study on 'fracturing-sealing' integration technology based on high-energy gas fracturing in single seam with high gas and low air permeability显示文摘To improve the gas extraction efficiency of single seam with high gas and low air permeability,we developed the'fracturing-sealing'integration technology, and carried out the engineering experiment in the3305 Tunliu mine.In the experiment, coal seams can achieve the aim of antireflection effect through the following process:First, project main cracks with the high energy pulse jet.Second, break the coal body by delaying the propellant blasting.Next, destroy the dense structure of the hard coal body, and form loose slit rings around the holes. Finally, seal the boreholes with the'strong-weak-strong'pressurized sealing technology. The results are as follows:The average concentration of gas extraction increases from8.3%to 39.5%.The average discharge of gas extraction increases from 0.02 to 0.10 m^3/min.The tunneling speeds up from 49.5 to 130 m/month.And the permeability of coal seams improves nearly tenfold.Under the same conditions, the technology is much more efficient in depressurization and antireflection than common methods. In other words,it will provide a more effective way for the gas extraction of single seam with high gas and low air permeability.Zhang Chao Lin Baiquan Zhou Yan Zhai Cheng Zhu Chuanjie 2013International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2013,23,6:10
Pulsating hydraulic fracturing technology in low permeability coal seams显示文摘Based on the difficult situation of gas drainage in a single coal bed of high gas content and low permeability, we investigate the technology of pulsating hydraulic pressure relief, the process of crank plunger movement and the mechanism of pulsating pressure formation using theoretical research, mathematical modeling and field testing. We analyze the effect of pulsating pressure on the formation and growth of fractures in coal by using the pulsating hydraulic theory in hydraulics. The research results show that the amplitude of fluctuating pressure tends to increase in the case where the exit is blocked, caused by pulsating pressure reflection and frictional resistance superposition, and it contributes to the growth of fractures in coal. The crack initiation pressure of pulsating hydraulic fracturing is 8 MPa, which is half than that of normal hydraulic fracturing; the pulsating hydraulic fracturing influence radius reaches 8 m.The total amount of gas extraction is increased by 3.6 times, and reaches 50 L/min at the highest point. The extraction flow increases greatly, and is 4 times larger than that of drilling without fracturing and 1.2times larger than that of normal hydraulic fracturing. The technology provides a technical measure for gas drainage of high gas content and low permeability in the single coal bed.Wang Wenchao Li Xianzhong Lin Baiquan Zhai Cheng 2015International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2015,25,4:9
Technology and application of pressure relief and permeability increase by jointly drilling and slotting coal显示文摘Difficulties with soft coal seams having a high gas content and high stress levels can be addressed by a technology of pressure relief and permeability increase.Slotting the seam by auxiliary drilling with a water jet that breaks the coal and slots the coal seam during the process of retreat drilling achieves pressure relief and permeability increase.Improved efficiency of gas extraction from a field test, high gas coal seam was observed.Investigating the theory of pressure relief and permeability increase required analyzing the characteristics of the double power slotting process and the effects of coal pressure relief and permeability increase. The influence of confining pressure on coal physical properties was examined by using FLAC3D software code to simulate changes of coal stress within the tool destruction area. The double power joint drilling method was modeled.Field experiments were performed and the effects are analyzed. This research shows that there is an ''islanding effect'' in front of the joint double power drill and slotting equipment. The failure strength of the coal seam is substantially reduced within the tool destruction area.Drilling depths are increased by 72% and the diameter of the borehole is increased by 30%.The amount of powdered coal extracted from the drill head increases by 17 times when using the new method.A 30 day total flow measurement from the double power drilled and slotted bores showed that gas extraction increased by 1.3 times compared to the standard drilled bores.Gas concentrations increased from 30% to 60% and were more stable so the overall extraction efficiency increased by a factor of two times.Lin Baiquan Zhang Jianguo Shen Chunming Zhang Qizhi Sun Chen 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,4:7
Induced drill-spray during hydraulic slotting of a coal seam and its influence on gas extraction显示文摘Hydraulic slotting can induce drill spray in a gassy, low permeability coal seam. This then influences subsequent gas extraction. This paper describes the drill spray phenomenon from a mechanical perspective and analyzes the effects of water jet damage during slotting.A simulation of the stresses around the drill hole and slot was prepared using FLAC-3D code.It helps explain the induction of drill spray during hydraulic slotting. The stress concentration around the bore increases as the diameter of the hole increases. As the hole enlarges the variation in stress also increases, which introduces an instability into the coal. This allows easy breaking and removal of the coal.Destruction of the coal structure by the water jet is the major factor causing drill spray.Energy stored as either strain or gas pressure is released by the water jet and this causes the coal to fracture and be expelled from the hole.Field tests showed the effect on gas extraction after slotting with drill spray. The concentration of gas increases after drilling.Compared to conventional techniques, the hydraulic slotted bore gives a gas concentration three times higher and has an effective range twice as far. This makes the gas extraction process more efficient and allows reduced construction effort.Shen Chunming Lin Baiquan Zhang Qizhi Yang Wei Zhang Lianjun 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,6:7
Establishment and application of drilling sealing model in the spherical grouting mode based on the loosing-circle theory显示文摘There are quite a few studies that have been done on borehole sealing theory both domestically and internationally. The existing researches usually consider drilling of the surroundings as a dense homogeneous elastic body which does not meet the characteristics of real drilling of the fractured body.Based on the loosing-circle theory and analyses of the surrounding rock stress field, cracks and seepage fields, combined with Newtonian fluid spherical grouting model,we deduced the dynamic relationship between the seepage coefficient and rock or grouting parameters of the drilling sealing fluid mode of spherical fissure grouting. In this experiment, mucus was injected in the simulated coal seam and the permeability coefficient of the sealing body was calculated by using the model. To verify the validity of the model, the calculated sealing body number was compared with the extreme negative pressure that the sealing body could withstand. The theoretical model revealed the drilling sealing fluid mechanism, provided a method for the quantitative calculation of the drilling sealing fluid effect by grouting mode and a reference for the subsequent research of sealing mechanism.Hao Zhiyong Lin Baiquan Gao Yabin Cheng Yanying 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,6:6
Effects of in-situ stress on the stability of a roadway excavated through a coal seam显示文摘Roadways excavated through a coal seam can exert an adverse effect on roadway stability. To investigate the effects of in-situ stress on roadway stability, numerical models were built and high horizontal stresses at varying orientations were applied. The results indicate that stress concentrations, roadway deformation and failure increase in magnitude and extent as the excavation angle with respect to the maximum horizontal stress increases. In addition, the stress adjacent to the coal-rock interface sharply varies in space and evolves with time; coal is much more vulnerable to deformation and failure than rock. The results provide insights into the layout of roadways excavated through a coal seam. Roadways should be designed parallel or at a narrow angle to the maximum horizontal stress. The concentrated stress at the top corner of the face-end should be reduced in advance, and the coal seam should be reinforced immediately after excavation.Li He Lin Baiquan Hong Yidu Gao Yabin Yang Wei Liu Tong, Wang Rui Huang Zhanbo 2017International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2017,27,6:6
Relaxation study of cement based grouting material using nuclear magnetic resonance显示文摘Aiming at actual condition of poor effect of hole sealing for the reason of poor cement paste fluidity in the process of coal mine gas drainage,by adding a water reducing agent, cement paste for hole sealing was produced. The changes of initial distribution, weighted average values and total relaxation signal intensity of transverse relaxation time(T 2) of water in pure cement paste and water reducing agent added cement paste were studied with low field proton nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR).The results show that there are four peaks in T2 distribution curves of cement paste:the first peak is related to the bound water in flocculation, the second and the third peaks are related to the water in flocculation, water reducing agent makes it extending towards the long relaxation time, increasing its liquidity, and the fourth peak is related to the free water.By using weighted average values of T2 and total relaxation signal intensity, hydration process of cement pastes could be roughly divided into four stages:the initial period, reaction period, accelerated period and steady period.By analyzing the periods,it makes sure that the grouting process should be completed in the reaction period in the site, and the drainage process should be started in the steady period. The results have great guiding significance to the hole sealing and methane drainage.Li Xianzhong Lin Baiquan Zhai Cheng Ni Guanhua Li Ziwen 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,6:6
Mechanical criterion for coal and gas outburst:a perspective from multiphysics coupling显示文摘Although a series of hypotheses have been proposed, the mechanism underlying coal and gas outburst remains unclear.Given the low-index outbursts encountered in mining practice,we attempt to explore this mechanism using a multiphysics coupling model considering the effects of coal strength and gas mass transfer on failure.Based on force analysis of coal ahead of the heading face,a risk identification index C_(m)and a critical criterion(C_(m)≥1)of coal instability are proposed.According to this criterion, the driving force of an outburst consists of stress and gas pressure gradients along the heading direction of the roadway, whereas resistance depends on the shear and tensile strengths of the coal. The results show that outburst risk decreases slightly, followed by a rapid increase, with increasing vertical stress, whereas it decreases with increasing coal strength and increases with gas pressure monotonically.Using the response surface method,a coupled multi-factor model for the risk identification index is developed. The results indicate strong interactions among the controlling factors. Moreover, the critical values of the factors corresponding to outburst change depending on the environment of the coal seams, rather than being constants. As the buried depth of a coal seam increases, the critical values of gas pressure and coal strength decrease slightly, followed by a rapid increase.According to its controlling factors, outburst can be divided into stress-dominated,coal-strength-dominated,gas-pressure-dominated,and multi-factor compound types.Based on this classification,a classified control method is proposed to enable more targeted outburst prevention.Ting Liu Baiquan Lin Xuehai Fu Ang Liu 2021International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2021,8,6:5
Monte Carlo simulation of methane molecule adsorption on coal with adsorption potential显示文摘The paper presents a Monte Carlo simulation to study the adsorption characteristics of methane molecule on coal slit pores from different aspects.Firstly,a physical model of adsorption and desorption of methane molecules on micropores was established.Secondly,a grand canonical ensemble was introduced as the Monte Carlo simulation system.Thirdly, based on the model and system, the molecule simulation program was developed with VC++6.0 to simulate the isothermal adsorption relationship between the amount of molecule absorption and the factors affecting it.Lastly, the numerically simulated results were compared with measured results of adsorption coal samples of two different coal mines with a laboratory gas absorption instrument. The results show that the molecule simulations of the adsorption constants, the adsorption quantity, and the isothermal adsorption curve at the same and different coal temperatures were in good agreement with those measured in the experiments, indicating that it is feasible to use the established model and the Monte Carlo molecule simulation to study the adsorption characteristics of methane molecules in coal.Li Xijian Lin Baiquan Xu Hao 2014International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2014,24,1:5
Kinetic characteristics of coal gas desorption based on the pulsating injection显示文摘In order to understand the kinetic characteristics of coal gas desorption based on the pulsating injection(PI), the research experimentally studied the kinetic process of methane desorption in terms of the PI and hydrostatic injection(HI). The results show that the kinetic curves of methane desorption based on PI and HI are consistent with each other, and the diffusion model can best describe the characteristics of methane desorption. Initial velocity, diffusion capacity and ultimate desorption amount of methane desorption after PI are greater than those after HI, and the ultimate desorption amount increases by 16.7–39.7%.Methane decay rate over the time is less than that of the HI. The PI influences the diffusion model parameters, and it makes the mass transfer Biot number B0 idecrease and the mass transfer Fourier series F00 increase. As a result, PI makes the methane diffusion resistance in the coal smaller, methane diffusion rate greater, mass transfer velocity faster and the disturbance range of methane concentration wider than HI.Therefore, the effect of methane desorption based on PI is better than that of HI.Ni Guanhua Lin Baiquan Zhai Cheng Li Quangui Peng Shen Li Xianzhong 2014International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2014,24,5:4

Pressure-relief and permeability-increase technology of high liquid–solid coupling blast and its application显示文摘As for the coal seam with high stress, high gas and low permeability,a single technology cannot prevent the complex dynamic disasters.Because of this, the study proposes a new method of pressure-relief and permeability-increase technology of the high liquid–solid coupling blast.Through coal seam injection and charging structure change, the paper fully works out the dual functions of the water and explosion.Using the theoretical calculation, numerical simulation and physical experiments,we obtained that the initial blasting stress, displacement and overpressure of the liquid–solid coupling blast are much better than that of ordinary blasting. The technology has been used in the relative coal mine, and the application results show that the technique has effectively prevented the coal and gas outburst, which has a wide range of application.Hao Zhiyong Zhou Chao Lin Baiquan Pang Yuan Li Ziwen 2014International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2014,24,1:3
Strata movement and stress evolution when mining two overlapping panels affected by hard stratum显示文摘Mining causes stress redistribution and stratum movement. In this paper,a numerical model was built according to the geological conditions in the 12th coal mine in Pingdingshan city to study the strata movement and the evolution of stress when mining two overlapping longwall panels, named panels#14 and#15.The strata close to the mined panel move directly towards the gob, while the strata that are farther away swing back and forth during the mining process. The directed movement and swinging can break the transverse boreholes for gas extraction;a surface borehole should not be within the range of directional movement. The stress evolution suggested that the mining of the lower panel#15 after the upper panel#14 would further increase the de-stressed range, while the stress concentration around the mined panel would be increased.Hard strata usually carry a greater stress than adjacent rocks and soft coal seams. The stress in a hard stratum increases greatly, and the stress decreases greatly in the coal seams below the hard stratum. This study supplies a reference for similar coal mines and is useful for determining the de-stressed range and transverse borehole arrangement for gas extraction.Jianguo Zhang Wei Yang Baiquan Lin Jinjing Zhang Man Wang 2019International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2019,29,5:2
