2Electro-acupuncture regulates the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway in a rat model of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease显示文摘Objective: Acupuncture has a definite therapeutic effect on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD), and the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway(CAP) has been shown to be involved in regulation of inflammation. In this study, we investigated whether electro-acupuncture(EA) affects the CAP in COPD.Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were induced into COPD through exposure to cigarette smoke combined with lipopolysaccharide. EA treatment was applied at Zusanli(ST36) and Feishu(BL13) points for 30 min/d for 7 d. Seventy-two rats were randomly divided into six study groups, including normal, normal + EA,normal + α-bungarotoxin(a-BGT)(the antagonist of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor a7 subunit(a7 nAChR)) + EA, COPD, COPD + EA, and COPD + α-BGT + EA. Lung function, pathology and vagus nerve discharge were tested. The levels of acetylcholine(ACh), acetylcholinesterase(AChE), interleukin-6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) and lung tissue were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The mRNA and protein expression and immunoreactivity of a7 nAChR and its postreceptor inflammation signal pathway, including janus kinase 2(JAK2), signal transducers and activators of transcription 3(STAT3), nuclear factor-KB(NF-κB), were observed by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, Western blot and immunohistochemistry.Results: Compared with normal rats, there were a significant decline in lung function and discharge of the vagus nerve(P < 0.01), a marked sign of lung inflammation and an increase of ACh, AChE, IL-6 and TNF-a level in BALF or lung tissue(P < 0.05, P < 0.01) and higher expression of a7 nAChR, JAK2, STAT3 and NF-κB(P<0.05, P<0.01) in the COPD rats. In rats receiving EA, the lung function and vagal discharge were enhanced(P < 0.01), lung inflammation was improved and the levels of ACh, AChE, IL-6 and TNF-a were decreased(P<0.01). Further, the expression of a7 nAChR, JAK2, STAT3 and NF-κB was downregulated(P < 0.05, P < 0.01). 3Optical property and spectroscopy studies on the selected lubricating oil in the terahertz range显示文摘The optical property and spectroscopy of selected kinds of lubricating oil are studied based on the terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) in the spectral range of 0.3-1.6 THz. The samples are classified by their characteristics via the near-infrared spectrum. The experimental results reveal that lubricating oil is more sensitive in the range of terahertz than in the near-infrared,and the specific kinds of lubricating oil can be identified according to their different spectral features in the terahertz range. 4Biodegradable chitosan scaffolds containing microspheres as carriers for controlled transforming growth factor-β_1 delivery for cartilage tissue engineering显示文摘Background Natural articular cartilage has a limited capacity for spontaneous regeneration.Controlled release oftransforming growth factor-β_1(TGF-β_1)to cartilage defects can enhance chondrogenesis.In this study,we assessed thefeasibility of using biodegradable chitosan microspheres as carriers for controlled TGF-β_1 delivery and the effect ofreleased TGF-β_1 on the chondrogenic potential of chondrocytes.Methods Chitosan scaffolds and chitosan microspheres loaded with TGF-β_1 were prepared by the freeze-drying andthe emulsion-crosslinking method respectively.In vitro drug release kinetics,as measured by enzyme-linkedimmunosorbent assay,was monitored for 7 days.Lysozyme degradation was performed for 4 weeks to detect in vitrodegradability of the scaffolds and the microspheres.Rabbit chondrocytes were seeded on the scaffolds containingTGF-β_1 microspheres and incubated in vitro for 3 weeks.Histological examination and type Ⅱcollagenimmunohistochemical staining was performed to evaluate the effects of released TGF-β_1 on cell adhesivity,proliferationand synthesis of the extracellular matrix.Results TGF-β_1 was encapsulated into chitosan microspheres and the encapsulation efficiency of TGF-β_1 was high(90.1%).During 4 weeks of incubation in lysozyme solution for in vitro degradation,the mass of both the scaffolds andthe microspheres decreased continuously and significant morphological changes was noticed.From the releaseexperiments,it was found that TGF-β_1 could be released from the microspheres in a multiphasic fashion including aninitial burst phase,a slow linear release phase and a plateau phase.The release amount of TGF-β_1 was 37.4%,50.7%,61.3%,and 63.5% for 1,3,5,and 7 days respectively.At 21 days after cultivation,type Ⅱ collagen immunohistochemicalstaining was performed.The mean percentage of positive cells for collagen type II in control group(32.7%±10.4%)wassignificantly lower than that in the controlled TGF-β_1 release group(92.4%±4.8%,P<0.05).Both the proliferation rateand production of collagen type Ⅱ in the transforming growth factor-β_1 microsphere incorporated scaffolds weresignificantly higher than those in the scaffolds without microspheres,indicating that the activity of TGF-β_1 was retainedduring microsphere fabrication and after growth factor release.Conclusion Chitosan microspheres can serve as delivery vehicles for controlled release of TGF-β_1,and the releasedgrowth factor can augment chondrocytes proliferation and synthesis of extracellular matrix.Chitosan scaffoldsincorporated with chitosan microspheres loaded with TGF-β_1 possess a promising potential to be applied for controlledcytokine delivery and cartilage tissue engineering.CAI Dao-zhang ZENG Chun QUAN Da-ping BU Li-si WANG Kun LU Hua-ding LI Xiao-feng 2007Chinese Medical Journal2007,,3:20
5Large Scale Photochemical Synthesis of M@TiO_(2) Nanocomposites (M = Ag, Pd, Au, Pt) and Their Optical Properties, CO Oxidation Performance, and Antibacterial Effect显示文摘Well-dispersed M@TiO_(2)(M=Ag,Pd,Au,Pt)nanocomposite particles with a diameter of 200-400 nm can be synthesized on a large scale by a clean photochemical route which does not require any additives using spherical rutile nanoparticles as a support.The sizes of Pt,Au,and Pd nanoparticles formed on the surface of TiO_(2) particles are about 1 nm,5 nm,and 5 nm,respectively,and the diameter of Ag nanoparticles is in the range 2-20 nm.Moreover,the noble metal nanoparticles have good dispersity on the particles of the TiO_(2) support,resulting in excellent catalytic activities.Complete conversion in catalytic CO oxidation is reached at temperatures as low as 333 and 363 K,respectively,for Pt@TiO_(2) and Pd@TiO_(2) catalysts.In addition,the antibacterial effects of the as-synthesized TiO_(2) nanoparticles,silver nanoparticles,and Au@TiO_(2) and Ag@TiO_(2) nanocomposites have been tested against Gram-negative Escherichia coli(E.coli)bacteria.The results demonstrate that the presence of the TiO_(2) matrix enhances the antibacterial effect of silver nanoparticles,and the growth of E.coli can be completely inhibited even if the concentration of Ag in Ag@TiO_(2) nanocomposite is very low(10μg/mL).Shao Feng Chen Jian Ping Li Kun Qian Wei Ping Xu Yang Lu Wei Xin Huang Shu Hong Yu 2010Nano Research2010,3,4:20
6Lung transplantation as therapeutic option in acute respiratory distress syndrome for coronavirus disease 2019-related pulmonary fibrosis显示文摘Background:Critical patients with the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),even those whose nucleic acid test results had turned negative and those receiving maximal medical support,have been noted to progress to irreversible fatal respiratory failure.Lung transplantation(LT)as the sole therapy for end-stage pulmonary fibrosis related to acute respiratory distress syndrome has been considered as the ultimate rescue therapy for these patients.Methods:From February 10 to March 10,2020,three male patients were urgently assessed and listed for transplantation.After conducting a full ethical review and after obtaining assent from the family of the patients,we performed three LT procedures for COVID-19 patients with illness durations of more than one month and extremely high sequential organ failure assessment scores.Results:Two of the three recipients survived post-LT and started participating in a rehabilitation program.Pearls of the LT team collaboration and perioperative logistics were summarized and continually improved.The pathological results of the explanted lungs were concordant with the critical clinical manifestation,and provided insight towards better understanding of the disease.Government health affair systems,virology detection tools,and modern communication technology all play key roles towards the survival of the patients and their rehabilitation.Conclusions:LT can be performed in end-stage patients with respiratory failure due to COVID-19-related pulmonary fibrosis.If confirmed positive-turned-negative virology status without organ dysfunction that could contraindicate LT,LT provided the final option for these patients to avoid certain death,with proper protection of transplant surgeons and medical staffs.By ensuring instant seamless care for both patients and medical teams,the goal of reducing the mortality rate and salvaging the lives of patients with COVID-19 can be attained.Jing-Yu Chen Kun Qiao Feng Liu Bo Wu Xin Xu Guo-Qing Jiao Rong-Guo Lu Hui-Xing Li Jin Zhao Jian Huang Yi Yang Xiao-Jie Lu Jia-Shu Li Shu-Yun Jiang Da-Peng Wang Chun-Xiao Hu Gui-Long Wang Dong-Xiao Huang Guo-Hui Jiao Dong Wei Shu-Gao Ye Jian-An Huang Li Zhou Xiao-Qin Zhang Jian-Xing He 2020Chinese Medical Journal2020,,12:19
7Increased brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity is associated with impaired endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease显示文摘Background Pulse wave velocity and flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) are widely used as noninvasive modalities for evaluating atherosclerosis. However, it is not known whether pulse wave velocity is related to FMD in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the alteration in brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) and endothelial function in CAD patients. Methods Thirty-three patients with CAD and thirty control subjects were recruited for this study. baPWV was measured non-invasively using a VP 1000 automated PWV/ABI analyzer (PWV/ABI, Colin Co. Ltd., Komaki, Japan). Endothelial function as reflected by FMD in the brachial artery was assessed with a high-resolution ultrasound device. Results baPWV was increased in CAD patients compared with control subjects [(1756.1±253.1) cm/s vs (1495.3±202.3) cm/s, P<0.01]. FMD was significantly reduced in CAD patients compared with control subjects [(5.2±2.1) % vs (11.1±4.4) %, P<0.01]. baPWV correlated with FMD (r =-0.68, P<0.001). The endothelium-independent vasodilation induced by sublingual nitroglycerin in the brachial artery was similar in the CAD group compared with the control group. Conclusions CAD is associated with increased baPWV and endothelial dysfunction. Increased baPWV parallels diminished endothelial function. 9Do pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis (PANoptosis) exist in cerebral ischemia? Evidence from cell and rodent studies显示文摘Some scholars have recently developed the concept of PANoptosis in the study of infectious diseases where pyroptosis,apoptosis and necroptosis act in consort in a multimeric protein complex,PANoptosome.This allows all the components of PANoptosis to be regulated simultaneously.PANoptosis provides a new way to study the regulation of cell death,in that different types of cell death may be regulated at the same time.To test whether PANoptosis exists in diseases other than infectious diseases,we chose cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury as the research model,collected articles researching cerebral ischemia/reperfusion from three major databases,obtained the original research data from these articles by bibliometrics,data mining and other methods,then integrated and analyzed these data.We selected papers that investigated at least two of the components of PANoptosis to check its occurrence in ischemia/reperfusion.In the cell model simulating ischemic brain injury,pyroptosis,apoptosis and necroptosis occur together and this phenomenon exists widely in different passage cell lines or primary neurons.Pyroptosis,apoptosis and necroptosis also occurred in rat and mouse models of ischemia/reperfusion injury.This confirms that PANoptosis is observed in ischemic brain injury and indicates that PANoptosis can be a target in the regulation of various central nervous system diseases.Wei-Tao Yan Yan-Di Yang Xi-Min Hu Wen-Ya Ning Lyu-Shuang Liao Shuang Lu Wen-Juan Zhao Qi Zhang Kun Xiong 2022Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,8:15
10Red-emitting YAG:Ce,Mn transparent ceramics for warm WLEDs application显示文摘A series of YAG:Ce,Mn transparent ceramics were prepared via a solid-state reaction-vacuum sintering method.The effects of various Mn^2+–Si4+pair doping levels on the structure,transmittance,and luminescence properties were systematically investigated.These transparent ceramics have average grain sizes of 10–16μm,clean grain boundaries,and excellent transmittance up to 83.4%at 800 nm.Under the excitation of 460 nm,three obvious emission peaks appear at 533,590,and 745 nm,which can be assigned to the transition 5 d→4 f of Ce^3+and 4 T1→6 A1 of Mn^2+.Thus,the Mn^2+–Si4+pairs can effectively modulate the emission spectrum by compensating broad orange-red and red spectrum component to yield high quality warm white light.After the optimized YAG:Ce,Mn transparent ceramic packaged with blue light-emitting diode(LED)chips,correlated color temperature(CCT)as low as 3723 K and luminous efficiency(LE)as high as 96.54 lm/W were achieved,implying a very promising candidate for application in white light-emitting diodes(WLEDs)industry.Junrong LING Youfu ZHOU Wentao XU He LIN Shuai LU Bin WANG Kun WANG 2020Journal of Advanced Ceramics2020,9,1:15
11Detection of DNA methylation changes during seed germination in rapeseed (Brassica napus)显示文摘DNA methylation is known to play a crucial role in regulating plant development and or- gan or tissue differentiation. In this study, we as- sessed the extent and pattern of cytosine methylation during rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) seed germina- tion, and compared the methylation level of various tissues in seedling, using the techniques of methyla- tion-sensitive amplified polymorphism (MSAP) and HPLC separation and quantification of nucleosides. In all, 484 bands, each representing a recognition site cleaved by either or both of the isoschizomers, were amplified by 12 pairs of selective primers in DNA ob- tained from dry seeds. A total of 76 sites were found to be differentially digested by the isoschizomers, indicating that approximately 15.7% of 5′-CCGG-3′ sites in the genome were cytosine methylated. Four classes of patterns were observed in a comparative assay of cytosine methylation in the dry and germi- nating seeds; a small number of hypermethylation events occurred at 5′-CCGG-3′ sites in germinating seeds compared with dry seeds, while many more hypomethylation events were detected after seed germination. Differences in DNA methylation level in various tissues were also detected; radicel was less methylated than hypocotyl and cotyledon. These observations were further confirmed by HPLC analy- sis. In addition, sequencing of eleven differentially methylated fragments and the subsequent blast search revealed that cytosine methylated 5′-CCGG- 3′ sequences were equally distributed between cod- ing and non-coding regions. These results clearly demonstrate the power of MSAP technique for large-scale DNA methylation detection in rapeseed genome, and the complexity of DNA methylationchange during seed germination. 12Knowledge of, attitudes towards, and practice relating to schistosomiasis in two subtypes of a mountainous region of the People’s Republic of China显示文摘Background:Schistosomiasis japonica is still endemic in the People’s Republic of China(P.R.China)in five provinces of lake and marshland regions and in two provinces of mountainous regions.Studies elucidated that individual and community perception,attitudes towards schistosomiasis,and hygiene behaviors were crucial factors for preventing schistosomiasis.This study sought to assess the knowledge of,attitudes towards,and practices(KAP)relating to schistosomiasis in two subtypes of a mountainous region in Eryuan County,Yunnan Province,P.R.China.The study’s aim is to make suggestions for establishing more specific and effective control measures for disease transmission and interruption in two subtypes of a mountainous region with low-level infection rates.Methods:A cross-sectional study of 3,000 inhabitants was carried out in the Yongle(plateau basin)and Xinzhuang(plateau canyon)communities of Eryuan County,Yunnan Province in November and December 2011.Stratified cluster random sampling was undertaken using a uniform set of quantitative questionnaires administered by trained assistants.This was further supported with qualitative data from in-depth interviews(IDIs)conducted with ten farmers and ten students.All participants were examined for schistosomiasis using both a serological test(indirect hemagglutination assay[IHA])and a stool examination(Kato-Katz).Results:The total schistosomiasis knowledge rate in Yongle(83.4%)was significantly lower than that in Xinzhuang(95.5%).In both communities,among the respondents aged 15 years or below,more than one third didn’t know the name,endemic areas,and animal reservoirs of schistosomiasis.The majority of respondents in Eryuan acquired their schistosomiasis knowledge from doctors,followed by handouts and hearing from others.The infection rate was once the highest in Yongle,but is now the highest in Xinzhuang,where there are more risk factors for schistosomiasis,such as frequently grazing cattle,digging vegetables or cutting grass in the field,as well as raising cattle by free grazing.Conclusion:In short,Eryuan County’s overall knowledge rate of schistosomiasis was found to be high.Due to various dominating risk factors,different control strategies should be designed keeping in mind the two different subtypes of endemic areas for schistosomiasis in mountainous regions,namely plateau basins and plateau canyons.Lu Liu Guo-Jing Yang Hong-Ru Zhu Kun Yang Lin Ai 2014Infectious Diseases of Poverty2014,3,1:14

14A population-based survey of gastroesophageal reflux disease in a region with high prevalence of esophageal cancer in China显示文摘Background: The exact relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC) is far from clarification. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiology of GERD in a region with high prevalence of ESCC in China. Methods: A population-based, cross-sectional study was conducted in a high ESCC prevalent area, Anyang, Henan, China. All subjects fulfilled questionnaires and underwent gastroendoscopy with routine esophageal biopsy. The subjects were divided into GERD subtypes (reflux esophagitis [RE] and non-erosive reflux disease [NERD]) and controls. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (Cis) were calculated to examine risk factors for RE and NERD. Results: A total of 2844 subjects were finally enrolled. The prevalence of GERD (RE + NERD) was 17.3%. Among them, 271 (9.53%) adults were diagnosed with RE. The prevalence of RE increased with age (7.09% in 45-50 years, 8.00% in 51-60 years, and 9.53% in 61-69 years,x^2 = 62.216, P < 0.001). Sixty-seven (2.36%) subjects were diagnosed with the silent RE. A total of 221 (7.77%) subjects were diagnosed with NERD. Frequent liquid food consumption (OR [95% CI]: 1.502 [1.076-2.095]) was independent risk factor for RE as well as age, male gender, high body mass index (BMI), ever smoking. Age was independent risk factor for NERD. For silent RE, age, male gender, and frequent liquid food consumption were risk factors. Conclusions: In the population with high prevalence of ESCC, a high prevalence of GERD and inverted proportion of RE/NERD were presented. Age was an independent risk factor for GERD. 16Effects of professional rehabilitation training on the recovery of neurological function in young stroke patients显示文摘Young stroke patients have a strong desire to return to the society,but few studies have been conducted on their rehabilitation training items,intensity,and prognosis.We analyzed clinical data of young and middle-aged/older stroke patients hospitalized in the Department of Neurological Rehabilitation,China Rehabilitation Research Center,Capital Medical University,China from February 2014 to May 2015.Results demonstrated that hemorrhagic stroke(59.6%) was the primary stroke type found in the young group,while ischemic stroke(60.0%)was the main type detected in the middle-aged/older group.Compared with older stroke patients,education level and incidence of hyperhomocysteinemia were higher in younger stroke patients,whereas,incidences of hypertension,diabetes,and heart disease were lower.The average length of hospital stay was longer in the young group than in the middle-aged/older group.The main risk factors observed in the young stroke patients were hypertension,drinking,smoking,hyperlipidemia,hyperhomocysteinemia,diabetes,previous history of stroke,and heart disease.The most accepted rehabilitation program consisted of physiotherapy,occupational therapy,speech therapy,acupuncture and moxibustion.Average rehabilitation training time was 2.5 hours/day.Barthel Index and modified Rankin Scale scores were increased at discharge.Six months after discharge,the degree of occupational and economic satisfaction declined,and there were no changes in family life satisfaction.The degrees of other life satisfaction(such as friendship) improved.The degree of disability and functional status improved significantly in young stroke patients after professional rehabilitation,but the number of patients who returned to society within 6 months after stroke was still small.Chao-jin-zi Li Xiao-xia Du Kun Yang Lu-ping Song Peng-kun Li Qiang Wang Rong Sun Xiao-ling Lin Hong-yu Lu Tong Zhang 2016Neural Regeneration Research2016,11,11:11

20Development of a daily soil moisture product for the period of2002–2011 in Chinese mainland显示文摘Soil moisture is an essential climate variable(ECV) concerned widely. Due to its high spatial variability, it is costly to measure soil moisture at tens of kilometers scale. In this study, a ten-year(2002–2011) daily soil moisture dataset at 0.25° spatial resolution for Chinese mainland was produced through assimilating the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for Earth Observing System(AMSR-E) brightness temperature(TB) data into a land surface model(LSM). The obtained soil moisture data was evaluated against soil moisture-measuring networks deployed in two wet areas and one dry area of the Tibetan Plateau.The results show that for the wet areas the accuracy of the soil moisture product obtained from the assimilation is considerably higher than that of both AMSR-E official soil moisture products and land surface simulation results, and for the dry area their accuracy is comparable to each other. The spatial pattern of the soil moisture from the new product is consistent with that of soil porosity from an independent survey-based dataset, further confirming the credibility of the new product. According to this product, the transition regions in China show stronger seasonal variation of soil moisture than dry and wet regions, and drier regions have stronger inter-annual variability of soil moisture than wetter regions, particularly during transitional seasons(spring and autumn).
