| 2 | Detecting soil salinity with arid fraction integrated index and salinity index in feature space using Landsat TM imagery显示文摘Modeling soil salinity in an arid salt-affected ecosystem is a difficult task when using remote sensing data because of the complicated soil context(vegetation cover,moisture,surface roughness,and organic matter)and the weak spectral features of salinized soil.Therefore,an index such as the salinity index(SI)that only uses soil spectra may not detect soil salinity effectively and quantitatively.The use of vegetation reflectance as an indirect indicator can avoid limitations associated with the direct use of soil reflectance.The normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI),as the most common vegetation index,was found to be responsive to salinity but may not be available for retrieving sparse vegetation due to its sensitivity to background soil in arid areas.Therefore,the arid fraction integrated index(AFII)was created as supported by the spectral mixture analysis(SMA),which is more appropriate for analyzing variations in vegetation cover(particularly halophytes)than NDVI in the study area.Using soil and vegetation separately for detecting salinity perhaps is not feasible.Then,we developed a new and operational model,the soil salinity detecting model(SDM)that combines AFII and SI to quantitatively estimate the salt content in the surface soil.SDMs,including SDM1 and SDM2,were constructed through analyzing the spatial characteristics of soils with different salinization degree by integrating AFII and SI using a scatterplot.The SDMs were then compared to the combined spectral response index(COSRI)from field measurements with respect to the soil salt content.The results indicate that the SDM values are highly correlated with soil salinity,in contrast to the performance of COSRI.Strong exponential relationships were observed between soil salinity and SDMs(R2>0.86,RMSE<6.86)compared to COSRI(R2=0.71,RMSE=16.21).These results suggest that the feature space related to biophysical properties combined with AFII and SI can effectively provide information on soil salinity. | Fei WANG Xi CHEN GePing LUO JianLi DING XianFeng CHEN | 2013 | Journal of Arid Land2013,5,3: | 14 |

| 8 | Targeting papain-like protease for broad-spectrum coronavirus inhibition显示文摘The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern and repeated outbreaks of coronavirus epidemics in the past two decades emphasize the need for next-generation pan-coronaviral therapeutics.Drugging the multi-functional papain-like protease(PLpro)domain of the viral nsp3 holds promise.However,none of the known coronavirus PLpro inhibitors has been shown to be in vivo active.Herein,we screened a structurally diverse library of 50,080 compounds for potential coronavirus PLpro inhibitors and identified a noncovalent lead inhibitor F0213 that has broad-spectrum anti-coronaviral activity,including against the Sarbecoviruses(SARSCoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2),Merbecovirus(MERS-CoV),as well as the Alphacoronavirus(hCoV-229E and hCoVOC43).Importantly,F0213 confers protection in both SARS-CoV-2-infected hamsters and MERS-CoV-infected human DPP4-knockin mice.F0213 possesses a dual therapeutic functionality that suppresses coronavirus replication via blocking viral polyprotein cleavage,as well as promoting antiviral immunity by antagonizing the PLpro deubiquitinase activity.Despite the significant difference of substrate recognition,mode of inhibition studies suggest that F0213 is a competitive inhibitor against SARS2-PLpro via binding with the 157K amino acid residue,whereas an allosteric inhibitor of MERSPLpro interacting with its 271E position.Our proof-ofconcept findings demonstrated that PLpro is a valid target for the development of broad-spectrum anticoronavirus agents.The orally administered F0213 may serve as a promising lead compound for combating the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and future coronavirus outbreaks. | Shuofeng Yuan Xiaopan Gao Kaiming Tang Jian-Piao Cai Menglong Hu Peng Luo Lei Wen Zi-Wei Ye Cuiting Luo Jessica Oi-Ling Tsang Chris Chun-Yiu Chan Yaoqiang Huang Jianli Cao Ronghui Liang Zhenzhi Qin Bo Qin Feifei Yin Hin Chu Dong-Yan Jin Ren Sun Jasper Fuk-Woo Chan Sheng Cui Kwok-Yung Yuen | 2022 | Protein & Cell2022,13,12: | 0 |

| 10 | 2-34 Neutron Time-of-Flight Spectrometer Based on HIRFL for Studies of Spallation Reactions Related to ADS Project显示文摘The combination of nuclear models with a Monte Carlo transportation code like MCNP, GEANT4 and FLUKA,nucleon meson transport codes (NMTC) are widely utilized for designing of Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS).However, the nuclear models embedded into transportation codes need to be validated by experimental measure-ments. A Neutron Time-of-Flight (NTOF) spectrometer, which is based on Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou(HIRFL), is designed for further investigations of reaction mechanisms and neutron productions of proton inducedspallation reactions related to the ADS project. The NTOF spectrometer is capable of measuring neutrons in awide energy and angular ranges. | 11 | 2-35 Investigation of Neutron Induced Reactions on Gallium Sample by Using Talys1.6显示文摘We investigate the neutron induced reactions on gallium sample, and its experimental neutron leakage spectra at the neutron incident energy of 14.8 MeV are comparedwith the Talys1.6[1] calculated results at 60? and120?. In the Talys code, the neutron-induced reactionis divided in three physical processes, e.g., direct, preequilibriumand compound nucleus reactions. Calculatedtotal neutron leakage energy spectrum and thecontributions from three processes are shown in Fig. 1(a). Natural Ga (60.11% 69Ga and 39.89% 71Ga) sampleswere used in the plots. The calculated total crosssection shows three characteristic features, an elasticpeak, an inelastic peak and a broad bump in the lowenergy side. The elastic and inelastic peaks are generatedby the direct process. | 12 | Watermelon domestication was shaped by stepwise selection and regulation of the metabolome显示文摘Although crop domestication has greatly aided human civilization,the sequential domestication and regulation of most quality traits remain poorly understood.Here,we report the stepwise selection and regulation of major fruit quality traits that occurred during watermelon evolution.The levels of fruit cucurbitacins and flavonoids were negatively selected during speciation,whereas sugar and carotenoid contents were positively selected during domestication.Interestingly,fruit malic acid and citric acid showed the opposite selection trends during the improvement.We identified a novel gene cluster(CGC1,cucurbitacin gene cluster on chromosome 1)containing both regulatory and structural genes involved in cucurbitacin biosynthesis,which revealed a cascade of transcriptional regulation operating mechanisms.In the CGC1,an allele caused a single nucleotide change in Cl ERF1 binding sites(GCC-box)in the promoter of Cl Bh1,which resulted in reduced expression of Cl Bh1 and inhibition of cucurbitacin synthesis in cultivated watermelon.Functional analysis revealed that a rare insertion of 244 amino acids,which arose in C.amarus and became fixed in sweet watermelon,in Cl OSC(oxidosqualene cyclase)was critical for the negative selection of cucurbitacins during watermelon evolution.This research provides an important resource for metabolomics-assisted breeding in watermelon and for exploring metabolic pathway regulation mechanisms. | Pingli Yuan Congping Xu Nan He Xuqiang Lu Xingping Zhang Jianli Shang Hongju Zhu Chengsheng Gong Hanhui Kuang Tang Tang Yong Xu Shuangwu Ma Dexi Sun Weiqin Zhang Muhammad J.Umer Jian Shi Alisdair R.Fernie Wenge Liu Jie Luo | 2023 | Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,3: | 0 |
| 13 | Volcanism Pacing Slumping Gravity Flow Deposits during the Late Carboniferous in the Southern Margin of the Junggar Basin,China显示文摘Deep-water gravity depositional processes and evolution in arc systems have become topics of intense research focus in recent years.This study discusses the co-evolution of volcanism and deep-water gravity flow deposits at the southern margin of the Junggar Basin,based on petrology,geochronology and geochemical analyses.The results show that a massive collapse of unstable sediments from the slope was triggered by volcanism,resulting in the formation of slumping gravity flows.The occurrence of volcanic beds in the slump deposits confirm that synchronous volcanism likely affected sediment instability,triggering gravity flows.The Th/Yb,Ta/Yb and Th/Ta elemental ratios,U-Pb ages of detrital zircons and paleocurrent directions indicate that the North Tianshan(NTS)island arc represents the provenance of the Qianxia Formation.Moreover,statistical data on the pyroclastic components in the gravity flow deposits reveal an intensity index of volcanism,indicating that volcanism is strongly related to gravity flow deposits,especially in terms of the type and distribution of the deposits.A model for volcanically-triggered deep-water gravity flow deposits is established,in order to provide a more in-depth understanding of the co-evolution of volcanism and gravity flow deposits within the depositional setting of the late Paleozoic NTS oceanic subduction margin in the Junggar Basin. | LI Shixin ZHANG Tingshan ZHANG Xi LIANG Zeliang JI Dongsheng Mihai Emilian POPA YONG Jinjie LUO Jinyu ZENG Jianli ZHU Haihua | 2023 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2023,97,5: | 0 |
