1Effects of traits,species identity and local environmental conditions on the assessment of interactions:insights from an alpine meadow community显示文摘Aims The prediction that facilitation is the dominant interaction in physically stressful conditions has been supported by many but not all field studies.In the present paper,we tested the effects of the identity of species,the local environmental conditions and the currencies of performance measurement on such variation.Methods Using contrasting two plots,six species,and up to five multiple traits,we comprehensively explored the effects of the above factors on the assessment of plant interactions in an alpine meadow of the QingHai Tibetan Plateau.Additionally,we attempted to figure out the possible mechanisms underlying the responses observed.The data were analysed by both standard ANOVAs and multivariate statistics.Important findings Our results demonstrated that the response to the removal of neighbours was both species and trait specific,and the effect of the ocal environmental conditions was dependent on the species involved.The contrast between plots had crucial influence on the net interactions of Kobresia macrantha,but little effect on Elymus nutans.Regarding the abiotic conditions,neighbours had significant impact on soil temperature,moist and solar radiation.The results contribute to advance our knowledge on the potential underlying factors influencing the assessment of facilitation.Chengjin Chu Youshi Wang Qi Li Luqiang Zhao Zhengwei Ren Sa Xiao Jianli Yuan Gang Wang 2009Journal of Plant Ecology2009,2,3:6
2Variation and heritability of morphological and physiological traits among Leymus chinensis genotypes under different environmental conditions显示文摘Intraspecific trait variation and heritability in different environmental conditions not only suggest a potential for an evolutionary response but also have important ecological consequences at the population, community, and ecosystem levels. However, the contribution of quantitative trait variation within a grassland species to evolutionary responses or ecological consequences is seldom documented. Leymus chinensis is an important dominant species in semi-arid grasslands of China, which has seriously suffered from drought and high temperature stresses in recent decades. In the present study, we measured variation and heritability of 10 quantitative traits, namely the number of tillers, maximum shoot height, number of rhizomes, maximum rhizome length, rhizome mass, aboveground mass, root mass, maximum net photosynthetic rate(Pmax), specific leaf area(SLA), and leaf length to leaf width ratio(LL/LW), for 10 genotypes of L. chinensis under one non-stress(Ck) condition and three environmental stress conditions(i.e., drought(Dr), high temperature(Ht), and both drought and high temperature(DrHt)). Result indicated that(1) the interaction of genotype and environmental condition(G×E) was significant for 6 traits but not significant for the other 4 traits as shown by two-way analysis of variance(ANOVA), suggesting that different selection forces were placed for different traits on the factors dominating phenotypic responses to different environmental conditions. Moreover, these significant G×E effects on traits indicated significantly different phenotypic adaptive responses among L. chinensis genotypes to different environmental conditions. Additionally, individuals could be grouped according to environmental condition rather than genotype as shown by canonical discriminant analysis, indicating that environmental condition played a more important role in affecting phenotypic variation than genotype;(2) by one-way ANOVA, significant differences among L. chinensis genotypes were found in all 10 traits under Ck and Dr conditions, in 8 traits under Dr Ht condition and only in 4 traits under Ht condition; and(3) all 10 traits showed relatively low or non-measurable broad-sense heritability(H_2) under stress conditions. However, the lowest H_2 value for most traits did not occur under DrHt condition, which supported the hypothesis of 'unfavorable conditions have unpredictable effects' rather than 'unfavorable conditions decrease heritability'. 4Effect of ammonium sulfate and urea on PCDD/F formation from active carbon and possible mechanism of inhibition显示文摘The effect of ammonium sulfate((NH4)2SO4) and urea(CO(NH2)2) on polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin and dibenzofuran(PCDD/F) formation from active carbon was investigated in this study. Both additives could significantly inhibit PCDD/F formation, and PCDD/F(TEQ)generation was reduced to 98.5%(98%) or 64.5%(77.2%) after 5%(NH4)2SO4or CO(NH2)2was added into model ash, respectively. The inhibition efficiency of PCDDs was higher than the value of PCDFs, however, the reduction of PCDD/F yield was mainly from PCDFs decreasing. In addition, the solid-phase products were reduced more than the gas-phase compounds by inhibitors. By the measurement of chlorine emission in the phase of ion(Cl[Cl-]) and molecule gas(Cl[Cl2]), it was observed that both Cl[Cl-] and Cl[Cl2] were reduced after inhibitors were added into ash. 5Testing the role of genetic variation of the MC4R gene in Chinese population in antipsychotic-induced metabolic disturbance显示文摘Antipsychotic-induced metabolic disturbance(AIMD) is a common adverse effect of antipsychotics with genetics partly underpinning variation in susceptibility among schizophrenia patients. Melanocortin4 receptor(MC4 R) gene, one of the candidate genes for AIMD, has been under-studied in the Chinese patients. We conducted a pharmacogenetic study in a large cohort of Chinese patients with schizophrenia. In this study, we investigated the genetic variation of MC4 R in Chinese population by genotyping two SNPs(rs489693 and rs17782313) in 1,991 Chinese patients and examined association of these variants with the metabolic effects that were often observed to be related to AIMD. Metabolic measures, including body mass index(BMI), waist circumference(WC), glucose, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein(HDL), and low-density lipoprotein(LDL) levels were assessed at baseline and after 6-week antipsychotic treatment. We found that interaction of SNP×medication status(drug-na?ve/medicated) was significantly associated with BMI, WC, and HDL change %, respectively. Both SNPs were significantly associated with baseline BMI and WC in the medicated group. Moderate association of rs489693 with WC, Triglyceride, and HDL change % were observed in the whole sample. In the drug-na?ve group, we found recessive effects of rs489693 on BMI gain more than 7%, WC and Triglyceride change %, with AA incurring more metabolic adverse effects. In conclusion, the association between rs489693 and the metabolic measures is ubiquitous but moderate. Rs17782313 is less involved in AIMD. 6Emerging important roles of circRNAs in human cancer and other diseases显示文摘CircRNAs are a large class of endogenous single-stranded RNA that is different from other linear RNA,which are produced by back-splicing and fusion of either exons,introns,or both exon-intron into covalently closed loops.CircRNAs are found in almost all living organisms and have emerged as potentially important players effecting on all life activities.It was char-acterized by stable structure,resistant to RNA degradation,highly abundance and conserva-tion and tissue-specific expression.Early circRNAs were ignored as a by-product of meaningless abnormally cut RNA and had little biological function.Currently,circRNAs have become a research hotspot due to its special characteristics.CircRNAs could function as miRNA sponges,interfere with splicing and bind to protein to regulate the expression of parental genes and so on.In recent years,an increasing number of studies have revealed that circRNAs are closely related to a series of physiological and pathological processes.Additionally,cir-cRNAs play an important role in the occurrence and development of a variety of diseases,sug-gesting circRNAs may be as novel indicators or biomarkers for cancer and other diseases with which they are associated.In this article,we review the biogenesis,biological functions of cir-cRNAs and recent advances in circRNAs research in human diseases.Results will provide new insights on the roles and new ideas of circRNAs for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and possible directions and approach for future circRNA applications.Yong Huang Cai Zhang Jianli Xiong Hongtao Ren 2021Genes & Diseases2021,8,4:2
7Age and Body Size of the Shangcheng Stout Salamander Pachyhynobius shangchengensis(Caudata:Hynobiidae)from Southeastern China显示文摘Age and body size a re critical for understanding life history evolution and ecology.In this study,the age and body size of the Shangcheng stout salamander,Pachyhynobius shangchengensis,from a population in Anhui Province,China,were studied by skeletochronology.The mean age was 8.8±0.2(mean±SD)years in females and 9.6±0.2 in males and ranged 5-13 years for both sexes.The mean age was significantly different between sexes.The mean body size and mass were(100.21±0.91)mm and(31.76±0.73)g in females,and(105.31±1.23)mm and(37.14±1.12)g in males,respectively.Males were significantly larger and heavier than females,indicating sexual size dimorphism.There was a significant positive correlation among body size,body mass,and age,suggesting that the oldest individuals are larger and heavier.The growth rate in males was significantly higher than in females.The present study provides preliminary data on life-history traits which can be helpful for future studies of this species and other hynobiid salamanders.Jianli XIONG Jianping GOU Yong HUANG Baowei ZHANG Hongtao REN Tao PAN 2020Asian Herpetological Research2020,11,3:2

152-34 Neutron Time-of-Flight Spectrometer Based on HIRFL for Studies of Spallation Reactions Related to ADS Project显示文摘The combination of nuclear models with a Monte Carlo transportation code like MCNP, GEANT4 and FLUKA,nucleon meson transport codes (NMTC) are widely utilized for designing of Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS).However, the nuclear models embedded into transportation codes need to be validated by experimental measure-ments. A Neutron Time-of-Flight (NTOF) spectrometer, which is based on Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou(HIRFL), is designed for further investigations of reaction mechanisms and neutron productions of proton inducedspallation reactions related to the ADS project. The NTOF spectrometer is capable of measuring neutrons in awide energy and angular ranges. 162-35 Investigation of Neutron Induced Reactions on Gallium Sample by Using Talys1.6显示文摘We investigate the neutron induced reactions on gallium sample, and its experimental neutron leakage spectra at the neutron incident energy of  14.8 MeV are comparedwith the Talys1.6[1] calculated results at 60? and120?. In the Talys code, the neutron-induced reactionis divided in three physical processes, e.g., direct, preequilibriumand compound nucleus reactions. Calculatedtotal neutron leakage energy spectrum and thecontributions from three processes are shown in Fig. 1(a). Natural Ga (60.11% 69Ga and 39.89% 71Ga) sampleswere used in the plots. The calculated total crosssection shows three characteristic features, an elasticpeak, an inelastic peak and a broad bump in the lowenergy side. The elastic and inelastic peaks are generatedby the direct process. 17Highly Anisotropic Magnetism and Nearly Isotropic Magnetocaloric Effect in Mn_(3)Sn_(2)Single Crystals显示文摘Mn_(3)Sn_(2)has been proposed as an ideal material for magnetic refrigeration.It undergoes two successive ferromagnetic transitions(T_(C1)=262 K and T_(C2)=227 K)and one antiferromagnetic transition(TN=192 K).Herein we report,for the first time,the preparation of single crystals of Mn_(3)Sn_(2)from Bi flux.The resultant anisotropic magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect are investigated along the three principal crystallographic directions of the crystal.Significant anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility and multiple field-induced metamagnetic transitions were found at low fields,whereas the magnetocaloric effect was found to be almost isotropic and larger than that of the polycrystalline one.The maximum magnetic entropy change amounts to-ΔSM=4.01 J·kg^(-1)·K^(-1)near T_(C1)under a magnetic field change of μ_(0)ΔH=5 T along the c-axis,with the corresponding refrigerant capacity of 1750 mJ·cm^(-3).Combined with a much wider cooling temperature span(~80 K),our results demonstrate Mn_(3)Sn_(2)single crystal to be an attractive candidate working material for active magnetic refrigeration at low temperatures.Jianli Bai Qingxin Dong Libo Zhang Qiaoyu Liu Jingwen Cheng Pinyu Liu Cundong Li Yingrui Sun Yu Huang Zhian Ren Genfu Chen 2023Chinese Physics Letters2023,40,12:0
