| 3 | Enhanced and irreversible sorption of pesticide pyrimethanil by soil amended with biochars显示文摘Biochar derived from partial combustion of vegetation is ubiquitous and potentially effective in sequestration of environmental contaminants.Biochars were prepared by burning of red gum(Eucalyptus spp.) woodchips at 450 and 850°C(labeled as BC450 and BC850).These two biochars were found to possess markedly different properties in terms of surface area and porosity.Short-term equilibration tests(24 hr) were conducted to assess the sorption-desorption behavior of pyrimethanil in the soil amended with various amounts of biochar of each type,with a special focus on the desorption behavior of the sorbed pesticide through four times successive desorption by dilution.Sorption coefficient and isotherm nonlinearity of the amended soils progressively increased with the content of biochar in the soil.Biochar BC850 with higher surface area and microporosity showed a stronger effect on the reversibility of sorption pesticide.The soils amended with 5% BC450 and 1% BC850 had nearly the same sorption capacity for pyrimethanil;however,their desorption processes were very different with 13.65% and 1.49% of the sorbed pesticide being released,respectively.This study suggested that biochar in soil could be an important factor for immobilization of a pesticide and thus affecting its environment fate in soil. | Xiangyang Yu Ligang Pan Guangguo Ying Rai S. | 4 | Nanotwinned and hierarchical nanotwinned metals:a review of experimental,computational and theoretical efforts显示文摘The recent studies on nanotwinned(NT)and hierarchical nanotwinned(HNT)face-centered cubic(FCC)metals are presented in this review.The HNT structures have been supposed as a kind of novel structure to bring about higher strength/ductility than NT counterparts in crystalline materials.We primarily focus on the recent developments of the experimental,atomistic and theoretical studies on the NT and HNT structures in the metallic materials.Some advanced bottom-up and top-down techniques for the fabrication of NT and HNT structures are introduced.The deformation induced HNT structures are available by virtue of severe plastic deformation(SPD)based techniques while the synthesis of growth HNT structures is so far almost unavailable.In addition,some representative molecular dynamics(MD)studies on the NT and HNT FCC metals unveil that the nanoscale effects such as twin spacing,grain size and plastic anisotropy greatly alter the performance of NT and HNT metals.The HNT structures may initiate unique phenomena in comparison with the NT ones.Furthermore,based on the phenomena and mechanisms revealed by experimental and MD simulation observations,a series of theoretical models have been proposed.They are effective to describe the mechanical behaviors of NT and HNT metals within the applicable scope.So far the development of manufacturing technologies of HNT structures,as well as the studies on the effects of HNT structures on the properties of metals are still in its infancy.Further exploration is required to promote the design of advanced materials. | Ligang Sun Xiaoqiao He Jian Lu | 2018 | npj Computational Materials2018,,1: | 14 |

| 10 | Itinerant-electron metamagnetic transition and giant magnetic entropy change in La_(0.8)Ce_(0.2)Fe_(11.4)Si_(1.6) compound显示文摘The crystal structure, itinerant-electron metamagnetic transition (IEMT) and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in the iron-based rare-earth intermetallic compound La0.8Ce0.2Fe11.4Si1.6 have been investi- gated. The powder X-ray diffraction revealed that the ingot of La0.8Ce0.2Fe11.4Si1.6 annealed at 1373 K in vacuum for only 5 days could be crystallized in the cubic NaZn13-type structure. The La0.8Ce0.2Fe11.4Si1.6 compound exhibited giant values of the isothermal entropy change ?SM around the Curie temperature TC (about 186 K). And the maximum value ΔS M max is about 78.29 J/(kg·K) under a field change of 0—3 T, which can be calculated by the magnetization iso- therms around TC. | 11 | Switched adaptive active disturbance rejection control of variable structure near space vehicles based on adaptive dynamic programming显示文摘Based on the switched nonlinear system, a switched adaptive Active Disturbance Rejection Control(ADRC) law is proposed for the Variable Structure Near Space Vehicle(VSNSV) with unknown uncertainties and external disturbances. The reduced-order Extended State Observers(ESOs) are constructed for the attitude angle system and the angular rate system to estimate the total disturbance in real time. With the extended state introduced to counteract the effects of uncertainties and disturbances, a systematic procedure is presented for the synthesis of the switched adaptive ADRC strategy. Rigorous proof shows that the estimation errors of the reduced-order ESOs would converge to a small neighborhood of zero in finite time, and that the output of the closedloop system can track a given signal stably for a class of switching signals with average dwell time via the proposed approach. The variable gain control strategy based on Adaptive Dynamic Programming(ADP) with the actor-critic structure is also designed to improve the dynamic performance of the system. | 13 | Estimation of inbreeding and identification of regions under heavy selection based on runs of homozygosity in a Large White pig population显示文摘Background: Runs of homozygosity(ROHs) are homozygous segments of the genome where the two haplotypes inherited from the parents are identical. The current availability of genotypes for a very large number of single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) is leading to more accurate characterization of ROHs in the whole genome. Here,we investigated the occurrence and distribution of ROHs in 3,692 Large White pigs and compared estimates of inbreeding coefficients calculated based on ROHs(FROH), homozygosity(FHOM), genomic relationship matrix(FGRM)and pedigree(FPED). Furthermore, we identified genomic regions with high ROH frequencies and annotated their candidate genes.Results: In total, 176,182 ROHs were identified from 3,569 animals, and all individuals displayed at least one ROH longer than 1 Mb. The ROHs identified were unevenly distributed on the autosomes. The highest and lowest coverages of Sus scrofa chromosomes(SSC) by ROH were on SSC14 and SSC13, respectively. The highest pairwise correlation among the different inbreeding coefficient estimates was 0.95 between FROH_totaland FHOM, while the lowest was-0.083 between FGRMand FPED. The correlations between FPEDand FROHusing four classes of ROH lengths ranged from 0.18 to 0.37 and increased with increasing ROH length, except for ROH > 10 Mb. Twelve ROH islands were located on four chromosomes(SSC1, 4, 6 and 14). These ROH islands harboured genes associated with reproduction, muscular development, fat deposition and adaptation, such as SIRT1, MYPN, SETDB1 and PSMD4.Conclusion: FROHcan be used to accurately assess individual inbreeding levels compared to other inbreeding coefficient estimators. | 16 | Precipitation trends and variability from 1950 to 2000 in arid lands of Central Asia显示文摘Climate warming will cause differences in precipitation distribution and changes in hydrological cycle both at regional and global scales. Arid lands of Central Asia(ALCA), one of the largest arid regions at the middle latitudes in the world, is likely to be strongly influenced by climate warming. Understanding the precipitation variations in the past is an important prerequisite for predicting future precipitation trends and thus managing regional water resources in such an arid region. In this study, we used run theory, displacement, extreme deviation theory, precipitation concentration index(PCI), Mann-Kendall rank correlation and climatic trend coefficient methods to analyze the precipitation in wet and dry years, changes in precipitation over multiple-time scales, variability of precipitation and its rate of change based on the monthly precipitation data during 1950–2000 from 344 meteorological stations in the ALCA. The occurrence probability of a single year with abundant precipitation was higher than that of a single year with less precipitation. The average duration of extreme drought in the entire area was 5 years, with an average annual water deficit of 34.6 mm(accounting for 11.2% of the average annual precipitation over the duration). The occurrence probability of a single wet year was slightly higher than that of a single dry year. The occurrence probability of more than 5 consecutive wet years was 5.8%, while the occurrence probability of more than 5 consecutive dry years was 6.2%. In the center of the study area, the distribution of precipitation was stable at an intra-annual timescale, with small changes at an inter-annual timescale. In the western part of the study area, the monthly variation of precipitation was high at an inter-annual timescale. There were clear seasonal changes in precipitation(PCI=12–36) in the ALCA. Precipitation in spring and winter accounted for 37.7% and 24.4% of the annual precipitation, respectively. There was a significant inter-annual change in precipitation in the arid Northwest China(PCI=24–34). Annual precipitation increased significantly(P=0.05) in 17.4% of all the meteorological stations over the study period. The probability of an increase in annual precipitation was 75.6%, with this increase being significant(P=0.05) at 34.0% of all the meteorological stations. The average increasing rate in annual precipitation was 3.9 mm/10a(P=0.01) in the ALCA. Anorexigenic or orexigenic effects reflect the activities of the POMC/CART or NPY/AgRP neurons within the hypothalamus. Neurotransmitters have roles in food intake, and responsive brain nuclei have different functions related to food intake, glucose monitoring, reward processing. Peripheral gut-or adipose-derived hormones are the major source of peripheral humoral regulation systems. Nutrients or metabolites and gut microbiota affect metabolism via a discrete pathway. We also review the role of peripheral organs, the liver,adipose tissue, and skeletal muscle in peripheral regulation.
