| 1 | Establishment of the South Asian High over the Indo-China Peninsula During Late Spring to Summer显示文摘The establishment of the upper-level South Asian high(SAH) over the Indo-China Peninsula(ICP) during late boreal spring and its possible causes are investigated using long-term NCEP–NCAR and ERA-40 reanalysis and satellite-observed OLR data. Results show that, from early March to mid-April, deep convection stays south of ~6?N over the northern Sumatran islands. As the maximum solar radiation moves over the latitudes of the ICP(10?–20?N) in late April, the air over the ICP becomes unstable. It ascends over the ICP and descends over the adjacent waters to the east and west. This triggers deep convection over the ICP that induces large latent heating and strong updrafts and upper-level divergence, leading to the formation of an upper-level anticyclonic circulation and the SAH over the ICP. During early to mid-May, deep convection over the ICP intensifies and extends northwards to the adjacent waters. Strong latent heating from deep convection enhances and maintains the strong updrafts and upper-level divergence, and the SAH is fully established by mid-May. Thus, the seasonal maximum solar heating and the land–sea contrast around the ICP provide the basic conditions for deep convection to occur preferentially over the ICP, which leads to the formation of the SAH over the ICP from late April to mid-May. | 3 | Modified non-rectangular hyperbola equation with plant height for photosynthetic light-response curves of Potentilla anserina and Elymus nutans at various growth phases in the Heihe River Basin, Northwest China显示文摘The non-rectangular hyperbola(NRH)equation is the most popular method that plots the photosynthetic light-response(PLR)curve and helps to identify plant photosynthetic capability.However,the PLR curve can't be plotted well by the NRH equation at different plant growth phases due to the variations of plant development.Recently,plant physiological parameters have been considered into the NRH equation to establish the modified NRH equation,but plant height(H),an important parameter in plant growth phases,is not taken into account.In this study,H was incorporated into the NRH equation to establish the modified NRH equation,which could be used to estimate photosynthetic capability of herbage at different growth phases.To explore photosynthetic capability of herbage,we selected the dominant herbage species Potentilla anserina L.and Elymus nutans Griseb.in the Heihe River Basin,Northwest China as the research materials.Totally,twenty-four PLR curves and H at different growth phases were measured during the growing season in 2016.Results showed that the maximum net photosynthetic rate and the initial slope of PLR curve linearly increased with H.The modified NRH equation,which is established by introducing H and an H-based adjustment factor into the NRH equation,described better the PLR curves of P.anserina and E.nutans than the original ones.The results may provide an effective method to estimate the net primary productivity of grasslands in the study area. | LIU Junjie WANG Xiaoping RONG Zhanlei GAO Yunfei ZHANG Guangde WANGWenbin GE Lijuan MAO Yahua GUO Zhaoxia WANG Qingtao ZHAO Chuanyan | 2019 | Journal of Arid Land2019,11,5: | 1 |

| 5 | Genome-wide signatures of the geographic expansion and breeding of soybean显示文摘Soybean is a leguminous crop that provides oil and protein. Exploring the genomic signatures of soybean evolution is crucial for breeding varieties with improved adaptability to environmental extremes. We analyzed the genome sequences of 2,214 soybeans and proposed a soybean evolutionary route, i.e., the expansion of annual wild soybean(Glycine soja Sieb. & Zucc.) from southern China and its domestication in central China, followed by the expansion and local breeding selection of its landraces(G. max(L.) Merr.). We observed that the genetic introgression in soybean landraces was mostly derived from sympatric rather than allopatric wild populations during the geographic expansion. Soybean expansion and breeding were accompanied by the positive selection of flowering time genes, including GmSPA3c. | 7 | Characterizing the influence of gut microbiota on host tryptophan metabolism with germ-free pigs显示文摘Intestinal microbes are closely associated with host health,depending on metabolic crosstalk between the microbiota and host.Tryptophan metabolism is one of the best examples of metabolic crosstalk between intestinal microbiota and host;however,our understanding about the influence of intestinal microbiota on host tryptophan metabolism is limited.Thus,we established germ-free(GF)pig models to systemically explore the influence of intestinal microbiota on tryptophan metabolism.Five GF pigs were kept in GF conditions throughout the experiment(GF group).Six GF pigs were transplanted with fecal microbiota from donor sows to act as control pigs.Compared with control pigs,the GF pigs had remarkable alterations in tryptophan metabolism.The differential metabolites(P<0.05)were mainly found in the liver,circulation system and large intestine.Notably,the alteration of metabolites in tryptophan metabolism varied among organs,especially for the serotonin pathway.In GF pigs,tryptophan and kynurenine in the large intestine and 5-hydroxytryptophan in most organs were increased(P<0.05),while metabolites in the indole pathway in most organs were decreased(P<0.05).Collectively,our study reveals changes in tryptophan metabolism in GF pigs,highlighting the critical role of gut microbes in shaping host tryptophan metabolism. | Bingnan Liu Dongming Yu Jing Sun Xiaoyan Wu Zhongquan Xin Baichuan Deng Lijuan Fan Jian Fu Liangpeng Ge Wenkai Ren | 2022 | Animal Nutrition2022,,4: | 1 |

| 9 | Cloud Radiative Feedbacks during the ENSO Cycle Simulated by CAMS-CSM显示文摘This study evaluated the simulated cloud radiative feedbacks(CRF)during the El Ni?o–Southern Oscillation(ENSO)cycle in the latest version of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences climate system model(CAMS-CSM).We conducted two experimental model simulations:the Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project(AMIP),forced by the observed sea surface temperature(SST);and the preindustrial control(PIcontrol),a coupled run without flux correction.We found that both the experiments generally reproduced the observed features of the shortwave and longwave cloud radiative forcing(SWCRF and LWCRF)feedbacks.The AMIP run exhibited better simulation performance in the magnitude and spatial distribution than the PIcontrol run.Furthermore,the simulation biases in SWCRF and LWCRF feedbacks were linked to the biases in the representation of the corresponding total cloud cover and precipitation feedbacks.It is interesting to further find that the simulation bias originating in the atmospheric component was amplified in the PIcontrol run,indicating that the coupling aggravated the simulation bias.Since the PIcontrol run exhibited an apparent mean SST cold bias over the cold tongue,the precipitation response to the SST anomaly(SSTA)changes during the ENSO cycle occurred towards the relatively warmer western equatorial Pacific.Thus,the corresponding cloud cover and CRF shifted westward and showed a weaker magnitude in the PIcontrol run versus observational data.In contrast,the AMIP run was forced by the observational SST,hence representing a more realistic CRF.Our results demonstrate the challenges of simulating CRF in coupled models.This study also underscores the necessity of realistically representing the climatological mean state when simulating CRF during the ENSO cycle. | Lin CHEN Lijuan HUA Xinyao RONG Jian LI Lu WANG Guo ZHANG Ming SUN Zi'an GE | 2019 | Journal of Meteorological Research2019,33,4: | 1 |

The precursor monitoring ability is weak in that area. We found tendency anomalies and middle- and short-term anomalies from metal pendulum tilt measurements in Hotan seismic station before the earthquake. And we also compared the anomalies with that of the M_S7.3 Yutian earthquake on March 21,2008. The tendency anomalies measured by the metal pendulum tiltmeter appeared since 2012 as tilting eastward. While the middle- and short-term anomalies were characterized by acceleration,pause and rapid change of tilt rate in two directions. The tendency anomalies of metal pendulum tilt records are the same before the two earthquakes. They both happened in the east direction. | 13 | Photovoltaic-powered supercapacitors for driving overall water splitting:A dual-modulated 3D architecture显示文摘Due to the growing demand for clean and renewable hydrogen fuel,there has been a surge of interest in electrocatalytic water-splitting devices driven by renewable energy sources.However,the feasibility of self-driven water splitting is limited by inefficient connections between functional modules,lack of highly active and stable electrocatalysts,and intermittent and unpredictable renewable energy supply.Herein,we construct a dualmodulated three-dimensional(3D)NiCo_(2)O_(4)@NiCo_(2)S_(4)(denoted as NCONCS)heterostructure deposited on nickel foam as a multifunctional electrode for electrocatalytic water splitting driven by photovoltaic-powered supercapacitors.Due to a stable 3D architecture configuration,abundant active sites,efficient charge transfer,and tuned interface properties,the NCONCS delivers a high specific capacity and rate performance for supercapacitors.A twoelectrode electrolyzer assembled with the NCONCS as both the anode and the cathode only requires a low cell voltage of 1.47 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm^(−2) in alkaline electrolyte,which outperforms the state-of-the-art bifunctional electrocatalysts.Theoretical calculations suggest that the generated heterointerfaces in NCONCS improve the surface binding capability of reaction intermediates while regulating the local electronic structures,which thus accelerates the reaction kinetics of water electrolysis.As a proof of concept,an integrated configuration comprising a two-electrode electrolyzer driven by two series-connected supercapacitors charged by a solar cell delivers a high product yield with superior durability. | Zixu Sun Lijuan Sun See Wee Koh Junyu Ge Jipeng Fei Mengqi Yao Wei Hong Shude Liu Yusuke Yamauchi Hong Li | 2022 | Carbon Energy2022,4,6: | 0 |
| 14 | Health risk assessment of trace metal(loid)s in agricultural soils based on Monte Carlo simulation coupled with positive matrix factorization model in Chongqing, southwest China显示文摘This study aimed to investigate the pollution characteristics, source apportionment, and health risks associated with trace metal(loid)s(TMs) in the major agricultural producing areas in Chongqing, China. We analyzed the source apportionment and assessed the health risk of TMs in agricultural soils by using positive matrix factorization(PMF) model and health risk assessment(HRA) model based on Monte Carlo simulation. Meanwhile, we combined PMF and HRA models to explore the health risks of TMs in agricultural soils by different pollution sources to determine the priority control factors. Results showed that the average contents of cadmium(Cd), arsenic (As), lead(Pb), chromium(Cr), copper(Cu), nickel(Ni), and zinc(Zn) in the soil were found to be 0.26, 5.93, 27.14, 61.32, 23.81, 32.45, and 78.65 mg/kg, respectively. Spatial analysis and source apportionment analysis revealed that urban and industrial sources, agricultural sources, and natural sources accounted for 33.0%, 27.7%, and 39.3% of TM accumulation in the soil, respectively.
