| 1 | Operative stabilization of the remaining mobile segment in ankylosed cervical spine in systemic onset- juvenile idiopathic arthritis:A case report显示文摘We describe a case of a 19-year-old young man with oligoarthritis type of juvenile idiopathic arthritis, who presented with several month duration of lower neck pain and progressive muscular weakness of all four limbs. X-rays of the cervical spine demonstrated spontaneous apophyseal joint fusion from the occipital condyle to C6 and from C7 to Th2 with marked instability between C6 and C7. Surgical intervention began with anterolateral approach to the cervical spine performing decompression, insertion of cage and anterior vertebral plate and screws, followed by posterior approach and fixation. Care was taken to restore sagittal balance. The condition was successfully operatively managed with multisegmental, both column fixation and fusion, resulting in pain cessation and resolution of myelopathy. Postoperatively, minor swallowing difficulties were noted, which ceased after three days. Patient was able to move around in a wheelchair on the sixth postoperative day. Stiff neck collar was advised for three months postoperatively with neck pain slowly decreasing in the course of first postoperative month.On the follow-up visit six months after the surgery patient exhibited no signs of spastic tetraparesis, X-rays of the cervical spine revealed solid bony fusion at single mobile segment C6-C7. He was able to gaze horizontally while sitting in a wheelchair. Signs of myelopathy with stiff neck and single movable segment raised concerns about intubation, but were successfully managed using awake fiber-optic intubation. Avoidance of tracheostomy enabled us to perform an anterolateral approach without increasing the risk of wound infection. Regarding surgical procedure, the same principles are obeyed as in management of fracture in ankylosing spondylitis or Mb. | 9 | Phenolics from grapefruit peels inhibit HMG-CoA reductase and angiotensin-I converting enzyme and show antioxidative properties in endothelial EA.Hy 926 cells显示文摘This study sought to investigate the possible mechanisms for the use of phenolic extracts from grapefruit peels in the management/prevention of cardiovascular complications.The effects of the phenolic extracts on key enzymes relevant to cardiovascular diseases[3-hydroxy-methyl-3-glutaryl coenzyme A reductase(HMG-CoA reductase)and angiotensin-I converting enzyme(ACE)],cellular antioxidant activity in human endothelial cells(EA.Hy 926)and radicals[1,1-diphenyl-2 picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and 2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)(ABTS)]scavenging abilities were investigated.The phenolic contents of the extracts were investigated using HPLC–DAD.There was no significant(P>0.05)difference in the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory ability of the two extracts,while the bound phenolic extracts had a stronger ACE inhibitory ability than the soluble free phenolics.The extracts also showed intracellular antioxidant activity in human endothelial(EA.Hy 926)cells.Furthermore,the bound phenolics had significantly higher radicals(DPPH*and ABTS*)scavenging abilities than the free phenolics.The HPLC analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids(quercetin and kaempferol),phenolics acids(resveratrol,gallic acid,ellagic acid and caffeic acid)and tannin(catechin).The cellular antioxidative properties and inhibition of enzymes relevant to the management of cardiovascular complications showed that grapefruit peels could be used as nutraceuticals for the management of such conditions. | Ayokunle O.Ademosun Ganiyu Oboh Sabina Passamonti Federica Tramer Lovro Ziberna Aline Augusti Boligon Margareth Linde Athayde | 2015 | Food Science and Human Wellness2015,4,2: | 0 |

| 11 | Review on field-induced phase transitions in lead-free NaNbO_(3)-based antiferroelectric perovskite oxides for energy storage显示文摘Emerging new applications of antiferroelectric perovskite oxides based on their fascinating phase transformation between polar and nonpolar states have provided considerable attention to this class of materials even decades after the discovery of antiferroelectricity.After presenting the challenge of formulating a precise definition of antiferroelectric materials,we briefly summarize proposed applications.In the following,we focus on the crystallographic structures of the antiferroelectric and ferroelectric phases of NaNbO_(3),which is emerging as a promising alternative to PbZrO_(3)-based systems.The field-induced phase transition behavior of NaNbO_(3)-based AFE materials in the form of single crystals,bulk ceramics,and multilayer ceramic capacitors is reviewed.Recent advances in a group of materials exhibiting high energy storage performance and relaxor-like behavior are also covered.The influence of electrode geometry on phase transition behavior and thus on the energy storage property is briefly addressed.The review concludes with an overview of the remaining challenges related to the fundamental understanding of the scientific richness of AFE materials in terms of structure,microstructure,defect transport under high fields,and phase transition dynamics required for their future development and applications. | Mao-Hua Zhang Lovro Fulanovi Changhao Zhao Jurij Koruza | 2023 | Journal of Materiomics2023,9,1: | 0 |
