1Functional traits of tree species with phylogenetic signal co-vary with environmental niches in two large forest dynamics plots显示文摘Aims While using phylogenetic and functional approaches to test the mechanisms of community assembly,functional traits often act as the proxy of niches.However,there is little detailed knowledge regarding the correlation between functional traits of tree species and their niches in local communities.We suggest that the co-varying correlation between functional traits and niches should be the premise for using phylogenetic and functional approaches to test mechanisms of community assembly.Using functional traits,phylogenetic and environmental data,this study aims to answer the questions:(i)within local communities,do functional traits of co-occurring species covary with their environmental niches at the species level?and(ii)what is the key ecological process underlying community assembly in Xishuangbanna and Ailaoshan forest dynamic plots(FDPs)?Methods We measured seven functional traits of 229 and 36 common species in Xishuangbanna and Ailaoshan FDPs in tropical and subtropical China,respectively.We also quantified the environmental niches for these species based on conditional probability.We then analyzed the correlations between functional traits and environmental niches using phylogenetic independent contrasts.After examining phylogenetic signals of functional traits using Pagel’sλ,we quantified the phylogenetic and functional dispersion along environmental gradients within local tree communities.Important Findings For target species,functional traits do co-vary with environmental niches at the species level in both of the FDPs,supporting that functional traits can be used as a proxy for local-scale environmental niches.Functional traits show significant phylogenetic signals in both of the FDPs.We found that the phylogenetic and functional dispersion were significantly clustered along topographical gradients in the Ailaoshan FDP but overdispersion in the Xishuangbanna FDP.These patterns of phylogenetic and functional dispersion suggest that environmental filtering plays a key role in structuring local tree assemblages in Ailaoshan FDP,while competition exclusion plays a key role in Xishuangbanna FDP.Jie Yang Xiuqin Ci Mengmeng Lu Guocheng Zhang Min Cao Jie Li Luxiang Lin 2014Journal of Plant Ecology2014,7,2:16
2Amino-functionalized poloxamer 407 with both mucoadhesive and thermosensitive properties:preparation, characterization and application in a vaginal drug delivery system显示文摘Lack of mucoadhesive properties is the major drawback to poloxamer 407(F127)-based in situ hydrogels for mucosal administration. The objective of the present study was to construct a novel mucoadhesive and thermosensitive in situ hydrogel drug delivery system based on an aminofunctionalized poloxamer for vaginal administration. First, amino-functionalized poloxamer 407(F127-NH2) was synthesized and characterized with respect to its micellization behavior and interaction with mucin. Then using acetate gossypol(AG) as model drug, AG-loaded F127-NH2-based in situ hydrogels(NFGs) were evaluated with respect to rheology, drug release, ex vivo vaginal mucosal adhesion, in vivo intravaginal retention and local irritation after vaginal administration to healthy female mice. The results show that F127-NH2 is capable of forming a thermosensitive in situ hydrogel with sustained drug release properties. An interaction between positively charged F127-NH2 and negatively charged mucin wasrevealed by changes in the particle size and zeta potential of mucin particles as well as an increase in the complex modulus of NFG caused by mucin. Ex vivo and in vivo fluorescence imaging and quantitative analysis of the amount of AG remaining in mouse vaginal lavage all demonstrated greater intravaginal retention of NFG than that of an unmodified F127-based in situ hydrogel. 3Confining MOF-derived SnSe nanoplatelets in nitrogen-doped graphene cages via direct CVD for durable sodium ion storage显示文摘Tin-based compounds are deemed as suitable anode candidates affording promising sodium-ion storages for rechargeable batteries andhybrid capacitors.However,synergistically tailoring the electrical conductivity and structural stability of tin-based anodes to attain durablesodium-ion storages remains challenging to date for its practical applications.Herein,metal-organic framework(MOF)derived SnSe/C wrappedwithin nitrogen-doped graphene(NG@SnSe/C)is designed targeting durable sodium-ion storage.NG@SnSe/C possesses favorable electricalconductivity and structure stability due to the'inner'carbon framework from the MOF thermal treatment and'outer'graphitic cage from thedirect chemical vapor deposition synthesis.Consequently,NG@SnSe/C electrode can obtain a high reversible capacity of 650 mAh·g^-1 at 0.05 A·g^1,a favorable rate performance of 287.8 mAh·g^1 at 5 A·g^1 and a superior cycle stability with a negligible capacity decay of 0.016%percycle over 3,200 cycles at 0.4 A·g^1.Theoretical calculations reveal that the nitrogen-doping in graphene can stabilize the NG@SnSe/Cstructure and improve the electrical conductivity.The reversible Na-ion storage mechanism of SnSe is further investigated by in-situ X-raydiffraction/ex-s/tu transmission electron microscopy.Furthermore,assembled sodium-ion hybrid capacitor full-cells comprising our NG@SnSe/Canode and an active carbon cathode harvest a high energy/power density of 115.5 Wh·kg^-1/5,742 W·kg^-1,holding promise for next-generationen ergy storages.Chen Lu Zhenzhu Li Zhou Xia Haina Ci Jingsheng Cai Yingze Song Lianghao Yu Wanjian Yin Shixue Dou Jingyu Sun Zhongfan Liu 2019Nano Research2019,12,12:7
4Synthesis of magnetic polyphosphazene-Ag composite particles as surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy substrates for the detection of melamine显示文摘Magnetic polyphosphazene(MPZS) particles coated by Ag nanoparticles(MPZS-Ag) have been developed as surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS) substrates for sensitive detection of melamine in aqueous solutions and milk samples.5,5’-Dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid)(DTNB) was used as model analyte to test the SERS activity of the MPZS-Ag particles.The prepared MPZS-Ag particles possess both magnetic responsiveness and excellent SERS properties.SERS detection of different concentrations of melamine aqueous solutions and spiked milk samples were performed by the MPZS-Ag particles.The limit of detection(LOD) of the melamine in aqueous solutions was 10^-7 mol/L(0.0126 mg/L) and 0.6 mg/L in real milk samples using the MPZS-Ag particles as SERS substrates.The LOD of the melamine are much lower than the safety values of Food and Drug Administration and Codex Alimentarius Commission.These results indicate that the MPZS-Ag particles have promising application prospect for SERS analysis in food safety fields.Ci Huang Feifei Lu Ke Xu Guanjun Ding Lijun You Jiabin Wang Qiqing Zhang 2019Chinese Chemical Letters2019,30,12:6
5Tuning F-doped degree of rGO:Restraining corrosion-promotion activity of EP/rGO nanocomposite coating显示文摘Given that graphene features high electrical conductivity,it is a kind of material with corrosion-promotion activity.This study aimed to inhibit the corrosion-promotion activity of graphene in coatings.Here,we report an exciting application of epoxy matrix(EP)/F-doped reduced graphene oxide(rGO)coatings for the long-term corrosion protection of steel.The synthesized F-doped rGO(FG)did not reduce the utilization of rGO by a wide margin and possessed distinctive electrically insulating nature.The electrical conductivity of rGO was approximately 1500 S/m,whereas those of FG-1,FG-2 and FG-3 were 1.17,5.217×10^−2 and 3.643×10^-11 S/m,respectively.FG and rGO were then dispersed into epoxy coatings.The chemical structures of rGO and FG were investigated by transmission electron microscopy(TEM),scanning probe microscopy(SPM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and X-ray diffraction(XRD).EP/FG coatings exhibited outstanding corrosion protection in comparison with blank EP and EP/rGO coatings mainly because the corrosion-promotion effect of rGO was eliminated.The anticorrosion ability of EP/FG coatingswasimproved with increased F-doped degree of FG.In addition,electrochemical impendance spectroscopy(EIS)results indicated that the Rc values of EP/FG-2 and EP/FG-3 were four orders of magnitude higher than those of EP/rGO in diluent NaCl solution(3.5 wt.%)after immersion for 90 days.Lu Shen Yong Li Wenjie Zhao Kui Wang Xiaojing Ci Yangmin Wu Gang Liu Chao Liu Zhiwen Fang 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,44,9:5
6Insights into the formation of secondary organic carbon in the summertime in urban Shanghai显示文摘To investigate formation mechanisms of secondary organic carbon(SOC) in Eastern China,measurements were conducted in an urban site in Shanghai in the summer of 2015. A period of high O_3 concentrations(daily peak > 120 ppb) was observed, during which daily maximum SOC concentrations exceeding 9.0 μg/(C·m^3). Diurnal variations of SOC concentration and SOC/organic carbon(OC) ratio exhibited both daytime and nighttime peaks. The SOC concentrations correlated well with O_x(= O_3+ NO_2) and relative humidity in the daytime and nighttime, respectively, suggesting that secondary organic aerosol formation in Shanghai is driven by both photochemical production and aqueous phase reactions. Single particle mass spectrometry was used to examine the formation pathways of SOC. Along with the daytime increase of SOC, the number fraction of elemental carbon(EC) particles coated with OC quickly increased from 38.1% to 61.9% in the size range of 250–2000 nm, which was likely due to gas-to-particle partitioning of photochemically generated semi-volatile organic compounds onto EC particles. In the nighttime, particles rich in OC components were highly hygroscopic, and number fraction of these particles correlated well with relative humidity and SOC/OC nocturnal peaks. Meanwhile, as an aqueous-phase SOC tracer, particles that contained oxalate-Fe(III) complex also peaked at night. These observations suggested that aqueous-phase processes had an important contribution to the SOC nighttime formation. 7Evolutionary transition between invertebrates and vertebrates via methylation reprogramming in embryogenesis显示文摘Major evolutionary transitions are enigmas,and the most notable enigma is between invertebrates and vertebrates,with numerous spectacular innovations.To search for the molecular connections involved,we asked whether global epigenetic changes may offer a clue by surveying the inheritance and reprogramming of parental DNA methylation across metazoans.We focused on gametes and early embryos,where the methylomes are known to evolve divergently between fish and mammals.Here,we find that methylome reprogramming during embryogenesis occurs neither in pre-bilaterians such as cnidarians nor in protostomes such as insects,but clearly presents in deuterostomes such as echinoderms and invertebrate chordates,and then becomes more evident in vertebrates.Functional association analysis suggests that DNA methylation reprogramming is associated with development,reproduction and adaptive immunity for vertebrates,but not for invertebrates.Interestingly,the single HOX cluster of invertebrates maintains unmethylated status in all stages examined.In contrast,the multiple HOX clusters show dramatic dynamics of DNA methylation during vertebrate embryogenesis.Notably,the methylation dynamics of HOX clusters are associated with their spatiotemporal expression in mammals.Our study reveals that DNA methylation reprogramming has evolved dramatically during animal evolution,especially after the evolutionary transitions from invertebrates to vertebrates,and then to mammals.Xiaocui Xu Guoqiang Li Congru Li Jing Zhang Qiang Wang David KSimmons Xuepeng Chen Naveen Wijesena Wei Zhu Zhanyang Wang Zhenhua Wang Bao Ju Weimin Ci Xuemei Lu Daqi Yu Qian-fei Wang Neelakanteswar Aluru Paola Oliveri Yong EZhang Mark QMartindale Jiang Liu 2019National Science Review2019,6,5:2

9Sustained release of exosomes loaded into polydopamine-modified chitin conduits promotes peripheral nerve regeneration in rats显示文摘Exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells are of therapeutic interest because of their important role in intracellular communication and biological regulation.On the basis of previously studied nerve conduits,we designed a polydopamine-modified chitin conduit loaded with mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes that release the exosomes in a sustained and stable manner.In vitro experiments revealed that rat mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes enhanced Schwann cell proliferation and secretion of neurotrophic and growth factors,increased the expression of Jun and Sox2 genes,decreased the expression of Mbp and Krox20 genes in Schwann cells,and reprogrammed Schwann cells to a repair phenotype.Furthermore,mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes promoted neurite growth of dorsal root ganglia.The polydopamine-modified chitin conduits loaded with mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes were used to bridge 2 mm rat sciatic nerve defects.Sustained release of exosomes greatly accelerated nerve healing and improved nerve function.These findings confirm that sustained release of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes loaded into polydopamine-modified chitin conduits promotes the functional recovery of injured peripheral nerves.Ci Li Song-Yang Liu Meng Zhang Wei Pi Bo Wang Qi-Cheng Li Chang-Feng Lu Pei-Xun Zhang 2022Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,9:2

11Several miRNAs derived from serum extracellular vesicles are potential biomarkers for early diagnosis and progression of Parkinson’s disease显示文摘Background:Blood-based test for predicting disease progression and early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease(PD)is an unmet need in the clinic.The profiles of microRNAs(miRNAs)are regarded as potential diagnostic biomarkers for human diseases,whereas miRNAs in the periphery are susceptible to the influence of various components.MiRNAs enriched in serum extracellular vesicles(EVs)have demonstrated disease-specific advantages in diagnosis due to their high abundance,stability and resistance to degradation.This study was aimed to screen differentially expressed EV-derived miRNAs between healthy controls and PD patients to aid in diagnosis of PD.Methods:A total of 31 healthy controls and 72 patients with a diagnosis of PD at different Hoehn and Yahr stages in Tangdu Hospital were included.In total,185 differentially expressed miRNAs were obtained through RNA sequencing of serum EVs as well as edgeR and t-test analyses.Subsequently,the weighted gene co-expression network analysis(WGCNA)was utilized to identify the commonly expressed miRNAs in all stages of PD by constructing connections between modules,and specifically expressed miRNAs in each stage of PD by functional enrichment analysis.After aligning these miRNAs with PD-related miRNAs in Human miRNA Disease Database,the screened miRNAs were further validated by receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)using peripheral blood EVs from 40 more participants.Results:WGCNA showed that 4 miRNAs were commonly associated with all stages of PD and 13 miRNAs were specifically associated with different stages of PD.Of the 17 obtained miRNAs,7 were validated by ROC curve analysis and 7 were verified in 40 more participants by qRT-PCR.Six miRNAs were verified by both methods,which included 2 miRNAs that were commonly expressed in all stages of PD and 4 miRNAs that were specifically expressed in different stages of PD.Conclusions:The 6 serum EV-derived miRNAs,hsa-miR-374a-5p,hsa-miR-374b-5p,hsa-miR-199a-3p,hsa-miR-28-5p,hsa-miR-22-5p and hsa-miR-151a-5p,may potentially be used as biomarkers for PD progression and for early diagnosis of PD in populations.Shulei He Lu Huang Ci Shao Tiejian Nie Li Xia Bozhou Cui Fangfang Lu Lin Zhu Bolin Chen Qian Yang 2021Translational Neurodegeneration2021,10,3:1
