| 1 | Sample maturation calculated using Raman spectroscopic parameters for solid organics: Methodology and geological applications显示文摘The shape and shift of Raman peak of solid organics prove to be capable of revealing atomic and molecular level vibration information of aromatic ring structure and its relationship with sample maturation. Raman 'D' peaks and 'G' peaks of a series of continuously maturated coal samples were measured, and the inter-peak intervals (G-D) and peak height ratios (Dh/Gh) were derived and correlated with the vitrinite reflectance (vRo%) of standard coal samples. As a result, two formulae were established by using the two Raman indices for calculation of Raman reflectance (RmcRo%), which is equivalent to vitrinite reflectance. The formula for calculating Raman reflectance indicative of organic maturation using Raman shift inter-peak interval (G-D) is RmcRo%=0.0537d(G-D)-11.21, which is mainly applicable to matured to highly matured carbonized samples of solid organics; The formula for calculating Raman reflectance indicative of organic maturation using Raman peak height ratio (Dh/Gh) is RmcRo%=1.1659h (Dh/Gh)+2.7588, which is mainly applicable to carbonized samples of solid organics that are over matured or going to be turned into granulated graphite. | 2 | Sorption and desorption of 1,4-dichlorobenzene on peat显示文摘Sorption and desorption of 1,4-dichlorobenzene (DCB) on peat (>92% organic matter) display large-scale hysteresis and nonlinearity. The magnitude of desorption hysteresis decreases in the order: untreated Pahokee peat (P)> acid treated peat (FP)> humin (TP). The desorption percentages are lower than 28% of the sorbed 1, 4-DCB after desorbing for 6 days. The sorption and desorption isotherms are well fitted to Freundlich equation, whose parameter 1/n ranges from 0.055 to 0.527. Moreover, the parameter 1/n of the desorption isotherm is significantly lower than that of the sorption isotherm, but the parameter logK increases on contrary to 1/n. The desorption isotherms are very well fitted to Langmuir equation, whose Qm decreases in the order: TP>FP> P. The apparent partition coefficients (Kp) increase with increasing sorption time or decreasing aqueous equilibrium concentration of DCB. It is suggested that the historical changes of heavy metal contamination can be recorded by pollutant sedimentary fluxes rather than by their concentrations. | 6 | Characteristics and possible origins of atmospheric monoterpenes from nonliving plants in Guangzhou显示文摘Monoterpenes in ambient air were determined in various sites in Guangzhou, and it was revealed that monoterpene concentrations in some special sites, like landfills, were even higher than those in locations with much more vegetation. On the average, monoterpene contents in samples from streets and highways were 1.9 μg/m3; from gardens, plantations and wooded lands, 2.2 μg/m3; from farmlands, 1.5 μg/m3; but from landfills, 4.1 μg/m3. So other sources like landfills, apart from living plants, might also contribute to the biogenic non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) in the atmospheric environment. In the present study a suitable analytical condition has been established for HPLC, and the LAS in modern sediments from core Zhu-9 at the Pearl River mouth has been determined by HPLC. The concentrations of C12-LAS homologues are the highest. The sedimentation flux of C12-LAS was correlated with the average flow of the Xijiang and Beijiang rivers: the higher the flow rate, the larger the C12-LAS sedimentation flux.
