1Serum semaphorin 4C as a diagnostic biomarker in breast cancer:A multicenter retrospective study显示文摘Background:To date,there is no approved blood-based biomarker for breast cancer detection.Herein,we aimed to assess semaphorin 4C(SEMA4C),a pivotal protein involved in breast cancer progression,as a serum diagnostic biomarker.Methods:We included 6,213 consecutive inpatients from Tongji Hospital,Qilu Hospital,and Hubei Cancer Hospital.Training cohort and two validation cohorts were introduced for diagnostic exploration and validation.A pan-cancer cohort was used to independently explore the diagnostic potential of SEMA4C among solid tumors.Breast cancer patients who underwent mass excision prior to modified radical mastectomy were also analyzed.We hypothesized that increased pretreatment serum SEMA4C levels,measured using optimized in-house enzymelinked immunosorbent assay kits,could detect breast cancer.The endpoints were diagnostic performance,including area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC),sensitivity,and specificity.Post-surgery pathological diagnosis was the reference standard and breast cancer staging followed the TNM classification.There was no restriction on disease stage for eligibilities.Results:We included 2667 inpatients with breast lesions,2378 patients with other solid tumors,and 1168 healthy participants.Specifically,118 patients with breast cancer were diagnosed with stage 0(5.71%),620 with stage I(30.00%),966 with stage II(46.73%),217 with stage III(10.50%),and 8 with stage IV(0.39%).Patients with breast cancer had significantly higher serum SEMA4C levels than benign breast tumor patients and normal controls(P<0.001).Elevated serum SEMA4C levels had AUC of 0.920(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.900–0.941)and 0.932(95%CI:0.911–0.953)for breast cancer detection in the two validation cohorts.The AUCs for detecting early-stage breast cancer(n=366)and ductal carcinoma in situ(n=85)were 0.931(95%CI:0.916–0.946)and 0.879(95%CI:0.832–0.925),respectively.Serum SEMA4C levels significantly decreased after surgery,and the reduction was more striking after modified radical mastectomy,compared with mass excision(P<0.001).The positive rate of enhanced serum SEMA4C levels was 84.77%for breast cancer and below 20.75%for the other 14 solid tumors.Conclusions:Serum SEMA4C demonstrated promising potential as a candidate biomarker for breast cancer diagnosis.However,validation in prospective settings and by other study groups is warranted.Ya Wang Long Qiao Jie Yang Xiong Li Yaqi Duan Jiahao Liu Shaoqi Chen Huayi Li Dan Liu Tian Fang Jingjing Ma Xiaoting Li Fei Ye Junxiang Wan Juncheng Wei Qin Xu Ensong Guo Ping Jin Mingfu Wu Lin Zhang Yun Xia Yaqun Wu Jun Shao Yaojun Feng Qing Zhang Zongyuan Yang Gang Chen Qinghua Zhang Xingrui Li Shixuan Wang Junbo Hu Xiaoyun Wang Mona P.Tan Kazuaki Takabe Beihua Kong Qifeng Yang Ding Ma Qinglei Gao 2021Cancer Communications2021,41,12:3

3Artificial photosynthesis bringing new vigor into plastic wastes显示文摘The accumulation of plastic wastes in landfills and the environment threatens our environment and public health,while leading to the loss of potential carbon resources.The urgent necessary lies in developing an energy-saving and environmentally benign approach to upgrade plastic into value-added chemicals.Artificial photosynthesis holds the ability to realize plastic upcycling by using endless solar energy under mild conditions,but remains in the initial stage for plastic upgrading.In this review,we aim to look critically at the photocatalytic conversion of plastic wastes from the perspective of resource reutilization.To begin with,we present the emerging conversion routes for plastic wastes and highlight the advantages of artificial photosynthesis for processing plastic wastes.By parsing photocatalytic plastic conversion process,we demonstrate the currently available routes for processing plastic,including plastic photodegradation,tandem decomposition of plastic and CO_(2) reduction,selective plastic oxidation,as well as photoreforming of plastic.This review concludes with a personal perspective for potential advances and emerging challenges in photocatalytic plastic conversion.Sailei Kang Tao Sun Yingxin Ma Mengmeng Du Mingfu Gong Chunyu Zhou Yang Chai Bocheng Qiu 2023SmartMat2023,4,4:1

14Evaluating and improving the interpretability of item embeddings using item-tag relevance information显示文摘Matrix factorization(MF)methods have superior recommendation performance and are flexible to incorporate other side information,but it is hard for humans to interpret the derived latent factors.Recently,the item-item cooccurrence information is exploited to learn item embeddings and enhance the recommendation performance.However,the item-item co-occurrence information,constructed from the sparse and long-tail distributed user-item interaction matrix,is over-estimated for rare items,which could lead to bias in learned item embeddings.In this paper,we seek to evaluate and improve the interpretability of item embeddings by leveraging a dense item-tag relevance matrix.Specifically,we design two metrics to quantitatively evaluate the interpretability of item embeddings from different viewpoints:interpretability of individual dimensions of item embeddings and semantic coherence of local neighborhoods in the latent space.We also propose a tag-informed item embedding(TIE)model that jointly factorizes the user-item interaction matrix,the item-item co-occurrence matrix and the item-tag relevance matrix with shared item embeddings so that different forms of information can co-operate with each other to learn better item embeddings.Experiments on the MovieLens20M dataset demonstrate that compared with other state-of-the-art MF methods,TIE achieves better top-N recommendations,and the relative improvement is larger when the user-item interaction matrix becomes sparser.By leveraging the itemtag relevance information,individual dimensions of item embeddings are more interpretable and local neighborhoods in the latent space are more semantically coherent;the bias in learned item embeddings are also mitigated to some extent.Tao LIAN Lin DU Mingfu ZHAO Chaoran CUI Zhumin CHEN Jun MA 2020Frontiers of Computer Science2020,14,3:0
15Short-chain fatty acids ameliorate spinal cord injury recovery by regulating the balance of regulatory T cells and effector IL-17^(+) γδ T cells显示文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI)causes motor,sensory,and autonomic dysfunctions.The gut microbiome has an important role in SCI,while short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs)are one of the main bioactive mediators of microbiota.In the present study,we explored the effects of oral administration of exogenous SCFAs on the recovery of locomotor function and tissue repair in SCI.Allen’s method was utilized to establish an SCI model in Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats.The animals received water containing a mixture of 150 mmol/L SCFAs after SCI.After 21 d of treatment,the Basso,Beattie,and Bresnahan(BBB)score increased,the regularity index improved,and the base of support(BOS)value declined.Spinal cord tissue inflammatory infiltration was alleviated,the spinal cord necrosis cavity was reduced,and the numbers of motor neurons and Nissl bodies were elevated.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR),and immunohistochemistry assay revealed that the expression of interleukin(IL)-10 increased and that of IL-17 decreased in the spinal cord.SCFAs promoted gut homeostasis,induced intestinal T cells to shift toward an anti-inflammatory phenotype,and promoted regulatory T(Treg)cells to secrete IL-10,affecting Treg cells and IL-17^(+)γδT cells in the spinal cord.Furthermore,we observed that Treg cells migrated from the gut to the spinal cord region after SCI.The above findings confirm that SCFAs can regulate Treg cells in the gut and affect the balance of Treg and IL-17^(+)γδT cells in the spinal cord,which inhibits the inflammatory response and promotes the motor function in SCI rats.Our findings suggest that there is a relationship among gut,spinal cord,and immune cells,and the“gut-spinal cord-immune”axis may be one of the mechanisms regulating neural repair after SCI.Pan LIU Mingfu LIU Deshuang XI Yiguang BAI Ruixin MA Yaomin MO Gaofeng ZENG Shaohui ZONG 2023Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2023,24,4:0
16Nanodevices engineering and spin transport properties of MnBi_(2)Te_(4) monolayer显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D)magnetic materials are essential for the development of the next-generation spintronic technologies.Recently,layered van der Waals(vdW)compound MnBi2Te4(MBT)has attracted great interest,and its 2D structure has been reported to host coexisting magnetism and topology.Here,we design several conceptual nanodevices based on MBT monolayer(MBT-ML)and reveal their spin-dependent transport properties by means of the first-principles calculations.The pn-junction diodes and sub-3-nm pin-junction field-effect transistors(FETs)show a strong rectifying effect and a spin filtering effect,with an ideality factor n close to 1 even at a reasonably high temperature.In addition,the pip-and nin-junction FETs give an interesting negative differential resistive(NDR)effect.The gate voltages can tune currents through these FETs in a large range.Furthermore,the MBT-ML has a strong response to light.Our results uncover the multifunctional nature of MBT-ML,pave the road for its applications in diverse next-generation semiconductor spin electric devices.Yipeng An Kun Wang Shijing Gong Yusheng Hou Chunlan Ma Mingfu Zhu Chuanxi Zhao Tianxing Wang Shuhong Ma Heyan Wang Ruqian Wu Wuming Liu 2021npj Computational Materials2021,,1:0
