| 1 | Serrated pathway in colorectal carcinogenesis显示文摘Serrated adenocarcinoma is a recently described subset of colorectal cancer(CRC),which account for about10%of all CRCs and follows an alternative pathway in which serrated polyps replace the traditional adenoma as the precursor lesion to CRC.Serrated polyps form a heterogeneous group of colorectal lesions that includes hyperplastic polyps(HPs),sessile serrated adenoma(SSA),traditional serrated adenoma(TSA)and mixed polyps.HPs are the most common serrated polyp followed by SSA and TSA.This distinct histogenesis is believed to have a major influence in prevention strategies,patient prognosis and therapeutic impact.Genetically,serrated polyps exhibited also a distinct pattern,with KRAS and BRAF having an important contribution to its development.Two other molecular changes that have been implicated in the serrated pathway include microsatellite instability and the CpG island methylator phenotype.In the present review we will address the current knowledge of serrated polyps,clinical pathological features and will update the most recent findings of its molecular pathways.The understanding of their biology and malignancy potential is imperative to implement a surveillance approach in order to prevent colorectal cancer development. | Letícia Yamane Cristovam Scapulatempo-Neto Rui Manuel Reis Denise Peixoto Guimares | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,10: | 8 |
| 2 | High prevalence of viable Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis in Crohn's disease显示文摘AIM:To examine the detection rate of viable Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis(MAP) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease [Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC)].METHODS:Thirty patients with CD(15 with at least one NOD2/CARD15 mutation),29 with UC,and 10 with no inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).were tested for MAP by polymerase chain reaction(specific IS900 fragment) and blood culture.RESULTS:MAP DNA was detected in all original blood samples and 8-wk blood cultures(CD,UC and non-IBD).Positive MAP DNA status was confirmed by dot blot assays.All 69 cultures were negative by acid-fast Ziehl-Neelsen staining.Viable MAP,in spheroplast form,was isolated from the 18-mo blood cultures of all 30 CD patients,one UC patient,and none of the non-IBD controls.No association was found between positive MAP cultures and use of immunosuppressive drugs or CDassociated single nucleotide polymorphisms.CONCLUSION:MAP is widely present in our area and MAP DNA can be recovered from the blood of CD,UC and non-IBD patients.However,MAP spheroplasts were only found in CD patients. | Juan L Mendoza Amparo San-Pedro Esther Culebras Raquel Cíes Carlos Taxonera Raquel Lana Elena Urcelay Fernando de la Torre Juan J Picazo Manuel Díaz-Rubio | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,36: | 5 |

| 20 | Phenazines:Natural products for microbial growth control显示文摘The unprecedented problem of antibiotic resistance has become a major challenge for public health,which has contributed to an increase in infections caused by such bacteria.These microbial infections,typically biofilm-related,are alsocoupled to an increase in human mortality and morbidity.However,the demand for new antimicrobial agents hasincreased along with the evolution of microbial resistance mechanisms.Natural products produced by bacteria,such as phenazines,have been recognized as an important source for the development of new antimicrobial agents,through the exploitation of their capacity to increase oxidative stress in other organisms.Phenazines are a large groupof nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds and are essential for several cellular processes including iron acquisition,signaling events,enzymatic processes,and biofilm formation.Phenazine-inspired antibiotics(i.e.,2-bromo-1-hydroxyphenazine,2,4-dibromo-1-hydroxyphenazine,bromophenazine-21,phenazine-13,and phenazine-14)are veryactive against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria,including those associated with severe infections.In this study,mechanisms of phenazine-inspired antibiotics in the cellular processes of planktonic and sessilebacteria are reviewed.Moreover,the application of phenazine-inspired antibiotics for the eradication of multidrugresistant planktonic and biofilm bacterial infections is also reviewed. | Cátia A Sousa Marta Ribeiro Francisca Vale Manuel Simões | 2024 | hLife2024,2,3: | 0 |
