| 2 | Changes in cellular proliferation and plasma products are associated with liver failure显示文摘AIM To study the differences in immune response and cytokine profile between acute liver failure and selflimited acute hepatitis.METHODS Forty-six patients with self-limited acute hepatitis(AH), sixteen patients with acute liver failure(ALF), and twenty-two healthy subjects were involved in this study. The inflammatory and anti-inflammatory products in plasma samples were quantified using commercial enzyme-linked immunoassays and quantitative real-time PCR. The cellular immune responses were measured by proliferation assay using flow cytometry. The groups were divided into viral- and non-viral-induced selflimited AH and ALF. Thus, we worked with five groups: Hepatitis A virus(HAV)-induced self-limited acute hepatitis(HAV-AH), HAV-induced ALF(HAV-ALF), nonviral-induced self-limited acute hepatitis(non-viral AH), non-viral-induced acute liver failure(non-viral ALF), and healthy subjects(HC). Comparisons among HAV and non-viral-induced AH and ALF were performed.RESULTS The levels of mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA) and the cytokines investigated [interleukin(IL)-6, IL-8, IL-10, interferon gamma, and tumor necrosis factor] were significantly increased in ALF patients, independently of etiology(P < 0.05). High plasma mt DNA and IL-10 were the best markers associated with ALF [mt DNA: OR = 320.5(95%CI: 14.42-7123.33), P < 0.0001; and IL-10: OR = 18.8(95%CI: 1.38-257.94), P = 0.028] and death [mt DNA: OR = 12.1(95%CI: 2.57-57.07), P = 0.002; and IL-10: OR = 8.01(95%CI: 1.26-50.97), P = 0.027]. In the cellular proliferation assay, NK^(bright), NKT and regulatory T cells(TReg) predominated in virusspecific stimulation in HAV-induced ALF patients with an anergic behavior in the cellular response to mitotic stimulation. Therefore, in non-viral-induced ALF, anergic behavior of activated T cells was not observed after mitotic stimulation, as expected and as described by the literature. CONCLUSION mt DNA and IL-10 may be predictors of ALF and death. | 3 | Antihyperglycemic effect of Passiflora glandulosa cav. fruit rinds flour in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice显示文摘Objective:To investigate the effect of administration of Passiflora glandulosa(P.glandulosa) fruit rinds flour on streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic mice.Methods:The preliminary phytochemical screening and parameters such as centesimal composition and brine shrimp toxicity were evaluated.For in vivo study Swiss female mice were divided into four groups:NC-normal control;DC-diabetic control animals receiving saline;MET-diabetic animals receiving metformin(200 mg/kg);PFRF-diabetic animals receiving P.glandulosa fruit rinds flour(200 mg/kg).All of them were treated for 28 d.STZ was used in a single dose of 120 mg/kg to establish diabetic models.Body weight,water and food intake,fasting blood glucose were measured.Histopathological analysis of pancreas and liver were performed to evaluate STZ-induced tissue injuries.Results:Phytochemical screening showed the presence of flavanones and triterpenoids.The P.glandulosa fruit rinds flour was non-toxic by the brine shrimp test.The fruit rinds flour also reduced the loss of body weight and significantly decreased food intake in the diabetic mice.Additionally,a significant reduction in blood glucose was observed for 15 d and this was maintained on 21 d and 28 d when compared with diabetic mice.Furthermore,the P.glandulosa fruit rinds flour has a favourable effect on the histopathological changes of the pancreas in STZ induced diabetes.Conclusions:It is concluded that P.glandulosa fruit rinds flour is a natural product that contains potent antioxidant compounds and presents good prospects for the improvement of diabetic mellitus by reducing serum glucose levels. | Erlandia Alves Magalhaes Queiroz Raquel Teixeira Terceiro Paim Sandra Machado Lira Jose Ytalo Gomes da Silva Carla Laine Silva Lima Marcelo Oliveira Holanda Stephen Rathinaraj Benjamin Icaro Gusmao Pinto Vieira Maria Izabel Florindo Guedes | 2018 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2018,11,9: | 0 |
| 4 | Technical Evaluation of Hybrid Clones of Corymbia spp. to Produce Market Pulp显示文摘This study presents hybrid clones of Corymbia spp.developed by Aperam BioEnergia as potential substitutes for Eucalyptus wood in the pulp industry.The biomass of Eucalyptus spp.was compared with that of Corymbia spp.by performing modified kraft pulping and basic density analyses.Comparisons were made by analyzing their respective mean annual increments of cellulose(MAI_(cel))and specific wood consumption(SWC),estimated using a kappa number of(19±1).The results showed that one of the hybrid clones(Corymbia citriodora×Corymbia torelliana,ID 4)had higher basic wood density,higher screened yield,better MAI_(cel#k19),and lower SWC than the other samples,reaching values of 0.608 t/m^(3),54.1%,24.6 ADt/ha/year(i.e.,air dry ton/hectare/year),and 2.74 m^(3)/ADt,respectively.Consequently,clone ID 4 had the highest MAI_(cel)/SWC ratio score(8.98).Given its high forest productivity and low industrial cost compared with other samples,as well as its advantages over Eucalyptus spp.wood,we concluded that clone ID 4 has great potential as an alternative biomass for pulp production. | Marcelo Moreira da Costa Ricardo de Carvalho Bittencourt Thales Augusto Pinto Coelho Nogueira Larissa Soares Silva Weslley Henrique Martins da Silva Sebastião Renato Valverde Gleison Augusto Dos Santos Daniel Alexander Fernandes Coelho Claudilene Aparecida Alves Pena | 2022 | Paper And Biomaterials2022,7,3: | 0 |
| 5 | Understanding how environmental heterogeneity and elevation drives the distribution of woody communities across vegetation types within the campo rupestre in South America显示文摘The campo rupestre sensu lato is a vegetation type that occurs in South American mountains,supports a distinctive flora characterized by high rates of endemism,high herbaceous species richness and often-neglected but also species-rich of the arboreal stratum.We aimed to investigate how environmental factors and elevation are associated with the distribution and diversity of woody species in different rupestrian vegetation types across South America.Using a database of 2,049 woody species from 185 sites across four vegetation types within the campo rupestre,we assessed how the vegetation types were grouped according to their floristic composition and number of shared indicator species,as well as by using different beta diversity indices.The most important variables from a set of 27 variables(e.g.altitude,geo-edaphic and climatic)explaining species distribution were identified using redundancy analysis(RDA)and variation partitioning methods.The distribution of vegetation types was related to both environmental and spatial fractions,with a set of 17 variables retained(e.g.rockiness,grass cover and temperature seasonality as the most important variables).There was an association between the floristic composition of each vegetation type and the elevation range.Although the identified vegetation types are floristically related,they are distinguished by exclusive and habitat-specialist woody species.This uniqueness of vegetation types should be considered in terms of complementarity for the conservation of campos rupestres. | Marcelo Leandro BUENO Vanessa Leite REZENDE Luiza Fonseca A.DE PAULA João Augusto Alves MEIRA-NETO JoséRoberto Rodrigues PINTO Andreza Viana NERI Vanessa PONTARA | 2021 | Journal of Mountain Science2021,18,5: | 0 |
