1Impacts of land use and land cover changes on hydrological processes and sediment yield determined using the SWAT model显示文摘Land use and land cover(LULC)changes strongly affect local hydrology and sediment yields. The current study focused on a basin in the Brazilian Amazon and had the following three objectives:(1)to perform an effective diagnosis of flow and sediment yield,(2)to evaluate the impacts of LULC changes over the last 40 years on the hydro-sedimentological variables,and(3)to investigate the impacts of the possible trends or breaking points in the flow, surface runoff, and sediment yield series. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)model validation showed that the simulated results were consistent with the data measured in the dynamic reproduction of flow seasonality.Furthermore, changes in LULC altered surface runoff, sediment yield, and flow according to the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt non-parametric tests. It was also observed that the sub-basins in which pastureland is predominant are more susceptible to increased surface runoff and sediment yield.According to trend and homogeneity tests, these sub-basins had break points in the time series of these variables. On the other hand,in the sub-basins whose land cover is predominantly forest, the time series is homogeneous and trendless. The current study highlighted the impacts that 40 years of LULC changes in an Amazonian basin had on hydro-sedimentological variables, which,in turn, can play an important role in changing the hydrological cycle, consequently these changes can also impact diverse human activities in the region, such as agribusiness, livestock, energy production, food security, and public water supply. Thus,it is concluded that the SWAT model is a good estimator of hydro-sedimentological processes in Amazonian basins and can be used by decision makers in the management of water and environmental resources.Edivaldo Afonso de Oliveira Serrao Madson Tavares Silva Thomas Rocha Ferreira Lorena Conceiçao Paiva de Ataide Cleber Assis dos Santos Aline Maria Meiguins de Lima Vicente de Paulo Rodrigues da Silva Francisco de Assis Salviano de Sousa Denis Jose Cardoso Gomes 2022International Journal of Sediment Research2022,37,1:3
2Characterization of goat whey proteins and their bioactivity and toxicity assay显示文摘Goat whey is an industry-discarded dairy by-product that has interesting nutritional value and a nutrient composition with important functional potential, where proteins have a high biological value and play an important role in the organism’s physiology. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify, quantify, concentrate and investigate the capacity of goat whey proteins to perform different biological activities and to evaluate their acute toxicity.Concentrated proteins were quantified and identified by Bradford,Kjehdal and SDS-PAGE methods.Antibacterial activity was performed against Listeria monocytogenes,Salmonella spp.,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli microorganisms and showed MIC ranging from 15 to 120μg mL-1,with the highest inhibition for L.monocytogenes growth.Antiproliferative activity was performed against human malignant melanoma cells and their proliferation inhibition was up to 66.8%within 72 h of exposure. The highest antioxidant capacity was obtained at concentration 2 mg that showed 29.69%of inhibition of DPPH radical oxidation. The acute toxicity test was performed using Artemia franciscana larvae in which whey proteins were able to preserve larval survival throughout exposure. Thus,we can conclude that goat’s whey has proteins that can play a positive effect on health, with antimicrobial activity and without toxicity. The present study highlights the great potential of goat’s whey to be developed as a safe biopreservative or as a functional ingredient in the food industry.Maria Isabel Ferreira Campos Paula Perazzo de Souza Barbosa Laura Junqueira Camargo Luciano Da Silva Pinto Bianca Mataribu Catarina Serr˜ao Luis Fernando Marques-Santos Jos´e Hon´orio Lopes Julia Mariano Caju de Oliveira Carlos Alberto de Almeida Gadelha Tatiane Santi-Gadelha 2022Food Bioscience2022,46,2:2

14Antibiofilm and immunomodulatory resorbable nanofibrous filing for dental pulp regenerative procedures显示文摘Multifunctional scaffolds with host defense peptides designed for regenerative endodontics are desirable nanobiotechnological tools for dentistry. Here, different scaffolds were tested for use during the pulp revascularization process, including poly(vinyl alcohol)-PVA hydrogels or resins, collagen hydrogels and poly(vinyl alcohol)PVA/Chitosan(PVA/CS)nanofibers.Based on time to degradation(21 days),nanofibers were chosen to be incorporated with ciprofloxacin and IDR-1002(each at 50 mg/g).Nanofibers containing ciprofloxacin and IDR-1002 had anti-biofilm activity against Enterococcus faecalis,Staphylococcus aureus and a multispecies oral biofilm, besides anti-inflammatory activities. The in vivo subcutaneous tissue response to tooth fragments filled with nanofibers demonstrated a pulp-like tissue formation, when compared to empty teeth fragments. Thus,we designed a strong antimicrobial, immunomodulatory and regenerative candidate for pulp revascularization and regeneration procedures.Mauricio Gonçalves da Costa Sousa Gabriela Conceiçao de Almeida Danilo Cesar Martins Mota Rosiane Andrade da Costa Simoni Campos Dias Samuel Nunes Limberger Frank Ko Li Ting Lin Evan FHaney Hashem Etayash Beverlie Baquir Michael J.Trimble Ya Shen Zheng Su Markus Haapasalo Daniel Pletzer Letícia Chaves de Souza Glaucia Schuindt Teixeira Renato M.Silva Robert E.W.Hancock Octavio Luiz Franco Taia Maria Berto Rezende 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,10:0
