1Mechanical Properties, Microstructure and Surface Quality of Polypropylene Green Composites as a Function of Sunflower Husk Waste Filler Particle Size and Content显示文摘Agricultural waste is a still untapped source of materials that can,in case of proper utilization, significantly improve the sustainability of polymers and their composites. In this work, polymer composites based on isotactic polypropylene were produced incorporating ground sunflower husk in the amount of 10 wt%and 20 wt%.The work’s main objective is to evaluate how preliminary fractioning of this agricultural waste filler affects the thermomechanical properties, microstructure and surface topology of polypropylene-based injection molded composites. The composites were analyzed for mechanical properties(tensile, impact strength and hardness),thermomechanical properties(Vicat softening point VST,heat deflection temperature HDT,and dynamic thermomechanical analysis DMTA)with reference to morphological changes evaluated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The quality of the produced composites was assessed on the basis of the analysis of the surface topology of the injected composites. It has been shown that the larger particle size of used filler has a direct impact on increasing composite stiffness in the room and elevated temperature. Moreover,a relationship was demonstrated between the size of the filler and the deterioration of the tensile strength in the case of composites with a higher content of filler. The results show that the addition of sunflower husk as a particle-shaped waste filler is an effective method to increase sustainability of polypropylene-based green composites with beneficial thermomechanical properties and to reduce the residue of sunflower husk from industrial oil production.Mateusz Barczewski Jacek Andrzejewski Radomir Majchrowski Kamil Dobrzycki Krzysztof Formela 2021Journal of Renewable Materials2021,9,5:0
2The Influence of Poly(Vinyl Alcohol)on Oil Release Behavior of Polylactide-Based Composites Filled with Linseed Cake显示文摘In order to limit the negative impact of industry on natural environment, ecological alternatives to conventional polymers are being proposed. One of the most popular“green”polymers is polylactide, which can also be successfully applied as a matrix of composites. The application of ground linseed cake as a filler for polylactide-based composites is in line with the idea of Circular Economy, and moreover it provides a modifying effect on the polymer by increasing its crystallinity and reducing its brittleness. This effect is caused by the presence of linseed oil which can be released to the polymeric matrix in a non-controlled way.In order to control the miscibility of the oil and the polymer,we modified the filler particles with poly(vinyl alcohol)before introducing it to the polylactide. We concluded that poly(vinyl alcohol),which does not mix with oil, encapsulated the active ingredients inside the filler particles. We evaluated the mechanical properties of the composites containing 5,10,20 and 30 wt%of the filler in a static tensile stress and by means of dynamic mechanical thermal analysis.Crystallinity and thermal properties were tested using differential scanning calorimetry as well as thermogravimetric analysis.Composites’microstructure was evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy. It was found that modifying the oil-rich filler with poly(vinyl alcohol)helps to reduce its release to the matrix and thus limits the plasticizing effect of linseed cake. This result was in accordance with our hypothesis.Olga Mysiukiewicz Mateusz Barczewski Joanna Szulc 2020Journal of Renewable Materials2020,8,4:0
