2Applications of graphene-based materials in environmental protection and detection显示文摘Many efficient adsorbents and sensors based on graphene and functionalized graphene have been constructed for the removal and detection of environmental pollutants due to its unique physicochemical properties. In this article, recent research achievements are reviewed on the application of graphene-based materials in the environmental protection and detection. For environmental protection, modified graphene can adsorb heavy metal ions in a high efficiency and selectivity, and thus reduces them to metals for recycling. High adsorption capacity of graphene-based materials to kinds of organic pollutants in water was also presented. Several graphene-based sensors with high limit of detection were reported to detect heavy metal ions, toxic gases and organic pollutants in environment. 3Cytological and Molecular Characteristics of Pollen Abortion in Lily with Dysplastic Tapetum显示文摘Lily was grown worldwide as a fresh cutting flower because of its colorful petals, but its anther contained a large number of pollen grains that cause serious pollen contamination, however, pollen abortion can effectively reduce the level of pollen pollution. Our analysis aims to use cytological observation to detect the critical stage when pollen abortion occurs and to provide comprehensive gene expression information at the transcriptional level. The result showed that pollen abortion in ‘Little Kiss’ began at the mononuclear stage and the callose that covers the microspores failed to degenerate when young pollens were released from the tetrads. In addition, compared with the normally developed one,the tapetum of ‘Little Kiss’ degraded in advance while the degradation of callose was delayed. Furthermore, 103 differentially expressed genes(DEGs) related to the advance degeneration of tapetum cells and callose were found in the expression levels, including 22 transcription factors(TFs). In particular, two β-glucanase genes(endo-1,3(4)-β-glucanase, exo-β-glucanase) responsible for callose degeneration were significantly down-regulated. These results suggested that pollen abortion may occur at mononuclear stage and that early degeneration of tapetum cells resulted in a significant down-regulation of β-glucanase genes. 4Evaluating the accuracy of Chinese pasture data in global historical land use datasets显示文摘Global historical land use datasets are widely used in global environmental change studies; however, uncertainties in the included pasture data have not been evaluated. In this study, using trend, relative difference ratio(RDR), and spatial comparisons, we evaluated the accuracy of China pasture data in the HYDE(versions 3.1 and 3.2), SAGE, and PJ datasets using historical document-based reconstructions, including the land use datasets for China covering 1935–1997(hereafter Ge-dataset)and Northeast China covering the 1700 s–2000(hereafter Ye-dataset), and the satellite-based China's Land-Use/cover Datasets(CLUDs) for 1980–2015. Four important results were obtained.(1) China pasture area in the HYDE, SAGE, and PJ datasets and grassland area in the Ge-dataset, Ye-dataset, and CLUDs show both disparate trends and large differences in absolute values.(2)Spatially, 50.9%, 52.8%, and 63.0% pasture/grassland grids in 2000 had RDRs greater than 60% between HYDE3.1, HYDE3.2,and SAGE datasets, and CLUDs, respectively. The percentage of grids with RDRs less than 20% were 24.9%, 26.7%, and 16.0%,respectively.(3) Based on HYDE3.2, the spatial distribution of pasture in Northeast China over the last 300 year has expanded,which is in contrast to the results from the Ye-dataset, which shows the spatial distribution of grassland shrinking because of human reclamation activities.(4) The large contrasts between the global datasets and Chinese native datasets are due to differences in pasture/grassland definitions, land use practices, and spatial reconstruction methods.Fanneng HE Shicheng LI Fan YANG Meijiao LI 2018Science China Earth Sciences2018,61,11:7
5Efficacy of Bushenjianpi prescription on autoimmune premature ovarian failure in mice显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of Bushenjianpi prescription(BSJPP), a formula from Traditional Chinese Medicine, on a mouse model of autoimmune premature ovarian failure(POF) induced by mouse zona pellucida(ZP3) and to investigate the mechanisms underlying the action.METHODS: After randomization, POF was induced in the model mice by immunization with ZP3. One week later, mice received low(8.1 mg/kg), moderate(16.2 mg/kg) and high(32.4 mg/kg) doses of BSJPP by gastrogavage once daily for 90 days. Premarin(0.03 mg/kg) served as the positive group. Serum samples were collected 1 week after the last dose and stored at-20 ℃ for analysis. After cervical dislocation, the uterus and ovaries were collected aseptically for evaluation by histological assessment, scanning electron microscopy, immunohistochemical staining, and Western blot and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analyses.RESULTS: Serum E2 levels in POF model mice were decreased, whereas follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and luteinizing hormone(LH) levels were dramatically increased. Serum levels of E2,LH and FSH were reduced in POF model mice treated with BSJPP(moderate and high doses) and premarin. 6Effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine herbs for tonifying Qi and kidney, and replenishing spleen on intermittent asthma in children aged 2 to 5 years old显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) herbs for tonifying Qi and kidney, and replenishing spleen on intermittent asthma in children aged 2 and 5 years.METHODS: A randomized, single-blind, placebo controlled trial was conducted. Children with intermittent asthma were enrolled and their baseline conditions were measured using a questionnaire. A total of 60 participants, aged 2 to 5, were randomized into either the treatment group(n = 40) or the placebo group(n = 20). The treatment group was treated with granules of TCM herbs for tonifying Qi and kidney, and replenishing spleen, and the placebo group was given placebo granules for 3 months.The number of asthma attacks was counted and TCM syndrome scores were measured at 1, 2, 3, 6, 9,and 12 months. The airway resistance and levels of eosinophil cationic protein for the two groups were observed before and after 3 months. The results were statistically analyzed.RESULTS: Compared with the placebo group, the number of asthma attacks significantly decreased in the treatment group(P < 0.05). For the treatment group, the TCM syndrome scores decreased after 1 and 2 months; there was also a significant difference in scores between the two groups(P < 0.05).The difference remained after the medicine was stopped for 9 months(P < 0.05). After the 3-month treatment, compared with the placebo group, the airway resistance decreased in the treatment group(P < 0.05). 15A new understanding of prescription显示文摘To promote the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is necessary to innovate the traditional prescription. It is feasible to use one or several components to substitute TCM, which can be regarded as a process of discarding the dregs and preserving the essential components. In this way, traditional prescription can be converted into various combinations of pharmacological ingredients deriving from several TCMs. Furthermore, some of pharmacological ingredients should be modified to increase their efficacy. It is practical to select the main structural unit with specific substituents having strong pharmacological activity. 16Evaluating the reliability of global historical land use scenarios for forest data in China显示文摘Global historical land use scenarios are widely used to simulate the climatic and ecological effects of changes in land cover;however,reliability evaluation of these scenarios for data on China’s forests is missing.By using a historical document-derived Chinese forest dataset(CHFD)for the years 1700–2000,we evaluated the reliability of data on forests in China over three global scenarios-SAGE(Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment),PJ(Pongratz Julia),and KK10(Kaplan and Krumhardt 2010)-through trend-related,quantitative,and spatial comparisons.The results show the following:(1)Although the area occupied by forests in China in the SAGE,PJ,KK10,and CHFD datasets decreased over the past 300 years,there were large differences between global scenarios and CHFD.The area occupied by forests in China in the SAGE scenario for 1700–1990 was 20%–40%more than that according to CHFD,and that occupied by forests in the KK10 from 1700 to 1850 was 32%–46%greater than that in CHFD.The difference between the PJ and CHFD was lower than 20%for most years.(2)Large differences were detected at the provincial and grid cell scales,where the PJ scenario was closer to CHFD in terms of total forested area.Provinces with large differences in terms of trend and quantity were 84%and 92%of all provinces,respectively.Grid cells with relative differences greater than 70%accounted for 60%–80%of all grids.(3)These global historical land use scenarios do not accurately reveal the spatiotemporal pattern of Chinese forests due to differences in the data sources,methods of reconstruction,and spatial scales.YANG Fan HE Fanneng LI Meijiao LI Shicheng 2020Journal of Geographical Sciences2020,30,7:1

20China’s Recent Progresses in Polar Climate Change and Its Interactions with the Global Climate System显示文摘During the recent four decades since 1980,a series of modern climate satellites were launched,allowing for the measurement and record-keeping of multiple climate parameters,especially over the polar regions where traditional observations are difficult to obtain.China has been actively engaging in polar expeditions.Many observations were conducted during this period,accompanied by improved Earth climate models,leading to a series of insightful understandings concerning Arctic and Antarctic climate changes.Here,we review the recent progress China has made concerning Arctic and Antarctic climate change research over the past decade.The Arctic temperature increase is much higher than the global-mean warming rate,associated with a rapid decline in sea ice,a phenomenon called the Arctic Amplification.The Antarctic climate changes showed a zonally asymmetric pattern over the past four decades,with most of the fastest changes occurring over West Antarctica and the Antarctic Peninsula.The Arctic and Antarctic climate changes were driven by anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and ozone loss,while tropical-polar teleconnections play important roles in driving the regional climate changes and extreme events over the polar regions.Polar climate changes may also feedback to the entire Earth climate system.The adjustment of the circulation in both the troposphere and the stratosphere contributed to the interactions between the polar climate changes and lower latitudes.Climate change has also driven rapid Arctic and Southern ocean acidification.Chinese researchers have made a series of advances in understanding these processes,as reviewed in this paper.Xichen LI Xianyao CHEN Bingyi WU Xiao CHENG Minghu DING Ruibo LEI Di QI Qizhen SUN Xiaoyu WANG Wenli ZHONG Lei ZHENG Meijiao XIN Xiaocen SHEN Chentao SONG Yurong HOU 2023Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2023,40,8:1
