1Natural Variation in CCD4 Promoter Underpins Species-Specific Evolution of Red Coloration in Citrus Peel显示文摘Carotenoids and apocarotenoids act as phytohormones and volatile precursors that influence plant development and confer aesthetic and nutritional value critical to consumer preference.Citrus fruits display considerable natural variation in carotenoid and apocarotenoid pigments.In this study,using an integrated genetic approach we revealed that a 5;c/s-regulatory change at CCD4b encoding CAROTENOID CLEAVAGE DIOXYGENASE 4b is a major genetic determinant of natural variation in C3 0 apocarotenoids responsible for red coloration of citrus peel.Functional analyses demonstrated that in addition the known role in synthesizing 3-citraurin,CCD4b is also responsible for the production of another important C3 0 apocarotenoid pigment,p-citraurinene.Furthermore,analyses of the CCD4b promoter and transcripts from various citrus germplasm accessions established a tight correlation between the presence of a putative 5'c/s-regulatory enhancer within an MITE transposon and the enhanced allelic expression of CCD4b in C3 0 apocarotenoid-rich red-peeled accessions.Phylogenetic analysis provided further evidence that functional diversification of CCD4b and naturally occurring variation of the CCD4b promoter resulted in the stepwise evolution of red peels in mandarins and their hybrids.Taken together,our findings provide new insights into the genetic and evolutionary basis of apocarotenoid diversity in plants,and would facilitate breeding efforts that aim to improve the nutritional and aesthetic value of citrus and perhaps other fruit crops.Xiongjie Zheng Kaijie Zhu Quan Sun Weiyi Zhang Xia Wang Hongbo Cao Meilian Tan Zongzhou Xie Yunliu Zeng Junli Ye Lijun Chai Qiang Xu Zhiyong Pan Shunyuan Xiao Paul D.Fraser Xiuxin Deng 2019Molecular Plant2019,12,9:18
2Rapid identification and preliminary evaluation of quality characters of oilseed sunflower by near infrared spectroscopy显示文摘To clarify the quality characters,understand the genetic diversity and screen elite lines among different oilseed sunflowers,the contents of crude fat,oleic acid,linoleic acid,palmitic acid and stearic acid of 525 oil sunflowers(including 375 germplasm accessions and 150 inbred lines)were detected by near-infrared spectroscopy(NIRS);the genetic variation and correlation analysis of quality traits were also performed.The results showed that oleic acid and linoleic acid had rich diversities with large variation ranges for each material type.Similar to the relation between crude fat content and palmitic acid content,significantly negative relation with high estimated value existed between oleic acid and linoleic acid content,while stearic acid content positively associated with oleic acid and palmitic acid content.Principal component analysis indicated that 5 quality traits were integrated into 2principal component factors(linoleic acid negative factor and palmitic acid factor)with the contribution rate of 88.191%,which could be used for evaluating sunflower quality.525 oilseed sunflowers were clustered into 3groups with obvious differences of quality characters,materials in Group I had high contents of oleic acid and low crude fat,but the opposite was found in GroupⅢ.59 superior quality accessions were obtained using large-scale and rapid near-infrared spectroscopy,and these excellent materials were verified by the traditional national chemical standard method.This research provided materials and significant reference for sunflower genetic research and quality breeding.Ling Wang Lei Wang Meilian Tan Haifeng Yu Jiaomei Wang Yuxiao Li Wei Wang Xingchu Yan Lijun Wang 2022Oil Crop Science2022,7,3:0
3Effects of plastic film mulching on flax(Linum usitatissimum L.) root distribution and water use efficiency显示文摘To evaluate effects of plastic film mulching on soil moisture, majority root distribution and water use efficiency (WUE), experiment was designed in flax field of Gansu,China. Three treatments including flat drill without mulching (CK), whole field soil plastic film mulched which covered with soil and bunch seeded (T1), and ridges mulched with plastic film and row-seeding in furrows (T2) were tested. Results indicated that mulching practice increased soil water storage compared to CK treatment in general. In both topsoil (0-30 cm) and underlying soil (30-100 cm) layer, T1 treatment had significantly greater (P<0.05) water storage than that in CK and T2 treatment. T1 treatment increased most significantly of soil water storage in 0-100 cm soil layer after rain, and also maintained high soil moisture at flax mature stage. Compared to CK, T1 and T2 produced obviously larger (P<0.05) taproot diameter and greater dry weight at both juvenile growth stage and first flowering stage, but had shorter lateral root length at all three stages. Consequently, seed yields and WUE with mulching treatment were increased by 22.3%-38.8% for T1 and 35.4%-56.2% for T2 compared to CK respectively.
