| 2 | High-gain waveguide amplifiers in SigN4 technology via double-layer monolithic integration显示文摘Silicon nitride(SiN)-on-SiO,attracts increasing interest in integrated photonics owing to its low propagation loss and wide transparency window,extending from^400 nm to 2350 nm.Scalable integration of active devices such as amplifiers and lasers on the Si;N,platform will enable applications requiring optical gain and a much-nceded alternative to hybrid integration,which suffers from high cost and lack of high-volume manufacturability.We demonstrate a high-gain optical amplifier in Al2O3:Er^3+ monolithically integrated on the Si3N4 platform using a double photonic layer approach.The device exhibits a net Si3N4-to-Si3N4 gain of 18.11±0.9 dB at 1532 nm,and a broadband gain operation over 70 nm covering wavelengths in the S-,C-and L-bands.This work shows that rare-carth-ion-doped materials and in particular,rare-earth-ion-doped Al.05,can provide very high net amplification for the Si3N4 platform,paving the way to the development of different active devices monolithically integrated in this passive platform. | JINFENG MU MEINDERT DIJKSTRA JEROEN KORTERIK HERMAN OFFERHAUS ANDSONIA M.GARCIA-BLANCO | 2020 | Photonics Research2020,8,10: | 2 |

| 9 | Surgical treatment of a rare complication after endoscopic stent placement for anastomotic leakage after esophageal resection显示文摘The best approach to achieve cure in esophageal cancer is a combination of chemo-radiation and surgery. However, complications occur in half of patients. The current report, reports a rare but severe complication: Complete obstruction of the esophagus, induced by preoperative chemo-radiation therapy. Normally, strictures are treated by repeated dilatations, however, in case of complete obstruction, the perforation rate of standard blind anterograde wire access and dilation is severely increased. In order to minimize the risk of perforations, the rendezvous technique was introduced. This technique involves an anterograde approach in combination with a retrograde approach in order to open and dilatate the esophagus. While technical success rates between 83% and 100% have been reported in literature, data on clinical outcomes are scarcer. The limited amount of studies available claim that success was achieved in almost half of patients. | 12 | Robotic cardiac surgery training during residency: Preparing residents for the inevitable future显示文摘Unlike other surgical residency training programs including thoracic surgery, robotic cardiac surgery skilltraining is minimal or absent in residency curricula. A review was conducted to identify residents'exposure to robotic cardiac surgery training based on databases including PubMed, MEDLINE and GoogleScholar. Published papers and cardiothoracic surgical societies with robotic cardiac surgery trainingcourses were reviewed. Robotic cardiac surgery training for residents is almost non-existent.
